- How to wean puppies to eat solid food. By weaning early you help conserve the mothers strength. Providing milk to a large litter puts more strain on a Chihuahua that giving birth. Start weaning as soon as the Chihuahua pups become mobile, usually somewhere between 3 and 4 weeks old.

my chi has four pups. the turned four weeks today. so i will deff start them on some food like this tomarrow! the mom is getting super skinny.

Never had a problem with Chi pups at 4 weeks refusing solid food. If we did I would simply give them a few more days and try again.

What is the food , how you made. i hv to feed my 6 pug puppies and i find v difficult as they not ready to eat. they are now 6weeks old
Not for long. They grow fast!
You can start solid food as soon as they can move around on their own at 3.5 to 4 weeks old. The sooner the better (for the mom). It takes a lot out of the mom to feed 4 to 6 pups for an extended amount of time. She will still nurse them off and on until they are about 6-7 weeks old and some times longer, but not a big meals. By week 8 pups no longer need mom's milk but will try to nurse if mom lets allows, often she will not.
If she eats enough, doesn't that make up for nursing her babies?
Its not quantity but rather a balanced diet for the mom during nursing. Its always best for the mom to wean the pups as soon as is safe for the pups; start at 3.5 to 4 weeks old. This takes the pressure off the mom and she will have a quicker rebound from the drain on her system that the pregnancy and lactating has had on her. Happy Trail Chihuahuas The intention was a quality diet. If the mom eats enough of a quality diet, won't that make up for lactation? I mean, lactation is a part of female mammals. I guess I need to study more on the subject.
Its a little to tall for them at first, but they grow fast and after another week its not a problem.
Cow milk is not good for pups. Cottage cheese has been processed and is good for them.
Groud puppy chow, cottage cheese, hot water and some times we add some applesauce also.
Stop pushing their face in it they will find it by themselves! lol. My kittens just weaned themselves, I put out meat for the adult cats and when they started eating it or becoming interested in the plates, I'd bring out some really tiny diced meat for them and they would munch up.
