I just found your video and that’s exactly how I have been weaning my new puppy, I’m on week 5 ready to go to the next step, soon he will be eating just kibble, he’s doing great, loved your video and I’m glad I knew I was doing it right. Thank you

We have a litter of 9 goldendoodle (standard) puppies. They are 3 weeks old now and momma has become somewhat distinterested in nursing. We have to encourage her to do so and sit with her while they eat. Starting puppy mush. If it starts to get cold is that ok or do we need to keep warm while they eat. And should we do 2 sessions instead of 1 to start. Rightnow they are between 2 and 2.5 lbs. Thank you.

Congrats on your litter. Thats pretty normal for mommas to start naturally weaning their puppies between 3-4 weeks old spending less time with them. As for puppy mush, make it once with warm water but its ok if it cools off. Once puppies are done eating it take it away. Don't leave it out with them once they are uninterested in eating more. I would start with one time a day and move to twice a day by 4 weeks. You want to give their GI systems time to adjust to the new food!

Thanks for the video. I have 10 golden retrivers at 6 weeks old. I started them on puppy mush at 3 weeks. How far along do you think I should be with the transition to dry food? ❤

Congrats on your litter. Usually by six weeks we have transitioned to three times a day with puppy food/mush and are just about to be transitioning completely away from using milk replacer. We are barely blending the puppy food so it is more crunchies than fine powder. By 7 weeks I am fully transitioned to dry, whole kibble and will move to twice a day feedings! Hope this helps.

Hi I have 3 Yorkiepoos they just turned 4 weeks and I started weaning them just now because mom was still interested in feeding them until the other day, should I use less water every week or less water everyday? I’m Esbilac 2nd step also

so what if you don’t have the milk replacement? can i just use water and ground up food?

We recommend using puppy milk replacer (you can get it online and in many pet supply stores and even walmart!) to help bridge the gap between only digesting and processing mommas milk to transitioning to dry puppy kibble.

I am getting a 3 week old puppy tomorrow, the breeder did not want to keep them any longer. Any tips on how to care for him away from mom and siblings? I also have to work during day. I plan on coming home at lunch to quickly check on him.

Do you put goats milk in with your puppy mush?

    • @StandingStoneKennels

Nope! Powder formula, blended up kibble, and water. I talk more about the proportions in the video!
