- Mila's puppies are now 4 weeks old. And they are doing great!
And it's at this time they start to show interest in solid foods.
Puppies start teething around 3 weeks, and their first baby teeth pop out around week 4 or 5. And that's when they start to smell food!
So I let them try it for the first time. Here's what I do: I take hard kibble and soak it in chicken broth and chicken meat flakes from canned chicken.
I let it soak for about 30 minutes until it gets soft, and then let them try! And you'll see the results!

I think they got the idea 😍😍😍. Don't let Margo babysit She'll just hand them a tin and a tin opener and head out to the cinema! They are eating into her screen time! Dempsey and I went out in the sunshine at the weekend and ran into a couple of his friends. Trent is a Golden Retriever guide dog, and he just has a lie down and ignores him, and Oscar is a big wiry coated Lurcher who doesn't notice Dempsey walking underneath his belly.😆 Trent is such a great working dog and so laid back but he always ends up the dirtiest dog in the group after he's rolled in some nice fox poop.😷💩 Love you.😍
Yay, I’m so glad you got some sunshine over the weekend so you and Dempsey could get out for a while. Sounds like Trent needs to work on his social skills though after this pandemic, I think I’ll have to work on mine as well. 😂
Cute but I wish you would talk more about it. I just started feeding my four week old puppy solid food and honestly if it wasn’t for the help of other breeders I wouldn’t have known what to do. Thank you for your videos

I’ve got a new question for you Kelly. What are your thoughts on collars vs. no collars vs. harnesses only? And I’ve watched a popular dog trainer here on TH-cam use a “house line” when puppy is outside their crate. Chi puppies are so small. I just don’t want any possible choking hazard. Your thoughts and instruction are greatly appreciated!!!!
I definitely advocate for a well fitting harness which is a much better option than a collar. You may have to try a few before you find one that fits perfectly. I have several that I like listed on my amazing store: www.Amazon.com/sweetiepiepets
I’ve never tried a house line but I could see how that might be beneficial. Usually an entire room is way too large of an area for a tiny dog to navigate his way back to the bathroom in time so I always recommend restricting the size of their “area” while they’re potty training. I use paneled crates for this but a line would likely be the same concept. I like the paneled crates because I can start with the smallest size (4 panels) and add panels to enlarge their area as they master making it to the bathroom in their current size.

Can you please show me how to properly shower a dog with fleas and ticks. My dog Rocky has ticks and I do not know how to properly shower him. I'm a big fan.
I’m sad for your little guy. I prefer natural flea and tick remedies but as illustrated in this vide: th-cam.com/video/oV8JiBAFIOM/w-d-xo.html however if your sweetie pie has a bad case, you may want to go straight to the stringer stuff. such as Frontline. You need to kill them first and the bath will come later.

I currently have 18 chihuahuas living in 6 different homes here in Southern California. All of my breeding parents are beloved pets living with loving sweetie pie pets families. I call my foster families my “affiliates” ❤️
You used chicken broth and not milk. So the idea is to wean them completely and not let them have any kind of milk anymore?
They get their milk from mama and when they wean they switch over to food, no more milk. It’s a process that starts with the first introduction to food (chicken broth is irresistible to most dogs) and then grows from there. A tiny big more solid food every day along with a tiny bit leas of mama’s milk. During this transition the mama just slowly starts nursing them less and less so I don’t have to monitor that side of it too closely.
You might be mad at me but my dog gave birth to 3 sweetie pies but we thought there was 3 but there was one left behind in the yard and we didn’t notice 😭😭😭😭😢🥺😭😭😭😭😭😭
Awe I’m so sorry to hear that. Sometimes a mama will be confused when she’s going into labor, this is especially common with first time mamas. They feel pressure and the urge to push and they go outside thinking they need to go potty. I’ve had mamas do that before when they are going into labor. I’m glad the other puppies made it
