Before watching, I thought about it, and was thinking we were going to have a fail here. I'm impressed that it passed the "Tim Torture Test". You keep up these tests, you'll have yourself a dugout canoe. Great video my friend.
Just got through watching your video and immediately clicked your link and ordered this knife.I was looking for a solid strong knife for a while and did not want to pay a whole lot of money for it this looks like it will serve my purpose perfectly fine .Thank you for bringing this knife to my attention I am looking forward to it arriving .Keep up the awesome videos I enjoy watching them.
I bought the 52m . Only changed the edge geometry. And put it in kydex with a Schf 56m piggybacked( I change the edge and hollow grind of the 56 to a high scandi grind. And removed a half inch of micarta from the handle butt to expose a nice scraping tool.). I also have a First run SCHF37. With a more aggressive and smaller handle it makes a great combat/ tactical utility with a few mods. I gave it a clip point and beveled to a finer but still strong tip(wide bevel) . Gave it a 90 degree spine and changed the edge to 20 degrees. I removed the coating and used hot apple cider vinegar to force a sweet patina. And wrapped the handle, including the choil with a ribbon of bicycle inner tube. Put it in a leather sheath and it’s a hell of a pig sticker now. I definitely wouldn’t pry with it like that now. It’s purpose is different. I haven’t used my 52m yet. It’s too pretty.
Although I have this knife for a few years now I thought it was going to break, glad it held up to the "Tim Test"... Stay Safe....Steve from Chicagoland.
I wasn't too sure what to expect with this one, I'll admit I thought we where going to have our first broken tip. I was pleasantly surprised when it passed with no breaks or bending. I have a couple more to "test" this weekend, I do believe we'll see our fist knife fail. We'll see.
Another good one, brother. My SCHF 51 is as tough as a BK2. Except I've worn off half the coating on a whole lot of wood. Just keeps going. For the price, hard to beat.
"Who's your daddy" lmao Loving these tip tests. I was predicting a fail here but maybe that was based more because of recent events. Great job as always Tim!!
Providing they're still manufacturing the knife the way they did about 3 years like this one then I'm sure you're gonna have a great blade. Thanks for watching.
@@GearReviewDepot yeah.thats what I'm worried about. They're advertised as 1095 steel but I guess it depends on they're manufacturing process. So far so good.
great for UK £51 .. having one . my ray mears bushcraft knife has the crappy scandi grind which has proved itself totally useless over the years . cutting wood great ,, fish and meat however are different story's scandi grind knives are uselesd food cutting tools which is what i use knives for mostly ,i can make fires without farting around with feathering bits of wood
That was some heavy testing, thanks for putting the knife through that much stress. I think the jes x thing was schrade releasing some hollow grind batches instead of the saber grind on the jes x. Saber grind makes for a stronger tip than hollow grind. The 51 and 31 have always been hollow grind, so your tests which were very hard tests prove the hollow grind on the 51. Thanks makes me feel good about my 51😁😁
Hi Tim, this is amazing. I am now going to buy now this knife in micarta version that is just few cents more than TPE. I am impressed with your efforts and videos. Please be safe and try to use gloves my dear. All the best.
@@GearReviewDepot You are very welcome Sir. Just to let you know I saw some very bad reviews of SCHF 51 regarding the grind and some said they got it a 'banana cut' blade?? Maybe it was bulging on one side. If you can find some new issues with this knife then I love to know. I am little reluctant to buy after reading these few reviews at Amazon. Take care.
Looks like an awesome blade... but.... realistically, what do you really use a big knife like this one in the forest? Chopping and cutting is for axes and saws. So it doesn't really make sense for me to use it for any woodwork, and it's too large for carving.
To each their own my friend. A great man once said "A big knife can do everything a small knife can but a small knife can't do everything a big knife can ". Thanks for stopping by. 👍
TheTacticalDefender absolutely man! :) I actually really like this knife after your review, I’m just kind of wondering if I would use it at all at camping... that’s why I was asking
Love my 51, always have always will. Tired of peo putting down any knife that isn't a $300 custom or a $100+ production knife. inexpensive does not always mean cheap.
Say Heah Timmy, Yeah, I'm so happy that I was able to get my Swampies when I did. For inflation reasons. The quality stays tge same. Infact three knives in the Schrade 51 category are my Ratmandu Rodent 5 and my Rodent 4 which is one of my Fav. Bush Craft Knives. Infact I teamed it with my Rodent 9. The Ratmandu in the SR101 I team with my Rucki one of my Fav. Summer Long Knife Combo:s. The Rodent 5 I Dangler Carry and I teamed it with my 2Hawks Double Bit Hatchet and my Wicked Tough Saw a Outstanding Trio. The Rodent 4 and 5 both have the Lightning Bolt handle designs that are very comfortable. But I also had my Rodent 6 modified. I had it thinned down and the top guard taken off. It now l@@ks like a Ratmandu on steroids. It's definitely one of my Fav's. I usually Neck Carry my Mora 510 with it and my Gransfors Bruks Small Forest Axe with my now new Agawa Canyon 21 Boreal Saw. But I also am getting use to how fast my WoW Folding Saw is. Both my Wicked Tough Saw and my new WoW Saw have Scabbard that I can carry them in the open position. A nice feature. Especially when building a shelter. Nice review Thanx You.,,. p
Absolutely! If your budget allows for the more expensive knife? Then I’d definitely go with the ESEE. If not, go with the Schrade, you’ll be happy with it I’m sure.
I have seen many tests of that knife and it passed easily and if I didn't have the model 26 survival knife I would buy that one. You did things with that knife no owner would do to their knife. My knife would never be abused that way as long as I own it and I would not do that to any knife I own, or anyone else's knife either.
Tim,these tip strength tests may be entertaining but, they can also have some very unpleasant consequences if the knife breaks. Also at the risk of offending you you might want to leave the puerile sexual references to our "good buddy Tac."

Awesome tip test, you really go all out....well done! Best i have ever seen, thank you. Am so impressed, have just ordered a SCHF51. :-)
It's a bit extreme, I'm sure no one will have to use their knife this hard but it was fun nonetheless. Thanks for stopping by.
Thanks Tim, entertaining as always. Makes me feel a lot better about my '51. Keep 'em coming my friend.
It's certainly a good blade. The 52 test is coming soon.
That was intense dude. Glad you're ok.
I didn't think it was going to hold, not bad for that price, I have the SCHF9, battoned with it, and did well.

some good heat treat on that one also.

I was too. It surprised me a bit.
Dude you really should wear some protection gears doing this we only have ten fingers each! Great test video thanks
That knife is a beast.
Just bought one. Hope it holds up to this sought of punishment. Great test. Great knife.

I wish Schrade had made the Schf9 in a hollow grind

I think pry bars and this knife are made from the same material.
It’s possible.
Jesus Christ that's a good inexpensive knife. I'm glad I choose it.
I concur. 👍

"I don't know if the new...ones...are as good as these are." That's the heart of the issue, isn't it? No Schrade for me.
The ones made today are better than the O.G
The sch51 is $38.
Would you say the esee 5 is worth the $170?? That's $132 more then the schf51

Agreed. I do recall stating this is highly unusual and extreme. Thanks for watching nonetheless.
Knife survived. TD had a heart attack, or was takin a grunt.
Wicked pissah!
You know it! 😁👊
She NEVER said that!!!!
Great knife I hope the new owners of Schrade do f it up too.
Tip fail?
Fo gid'about it
It does sound like he's pinch'in a loaf

"good buddy Tac."? Not sure who you're referring to?
