I haven't seen a negative review yet for this knife. Seems like a winner. I'm thinking of grabbing one for a 'one tool' option to save some hiking pack weight, and leave my saw and hatchet for car/canoe camping. Thanks for the review.
John, I'm highly impressed with these knives. They chop well out of proportion to their size due to the edge geometry and that hook at the end of the handle. I don't think you will be disappointed.
The 1095 steel from Schrade is heat treated in China, and it is real mistake from Schrade. I own the 51 and the 52, and I broke the tip of the blade on both. Sold as survival knives, they won't take care of you. In addition to that, the cutting edge was a total disaster. I had to reprofile it seriously. So if you want a real knife, go on internet and put your money into something that is worth it. I hesitate now between the BK2 and the Esee 5. Much more expensive but "built for a lifetime"... 😉
Great review. I've had a Schrade 36 for a couple of years now, and the improvements on the 52 fix the drawbacks that I found in the 36. When I recently mentioned to my oldest daughter, who has hiked and bushcrafted with me since she could walk steady, that I was going to buy one, she told me just to hold off and think about it for a bit. The barely perceptible smirk on her face gave away what I'm getting from her for Christmas this year. I've just recently come across your videos. You have a new sub. Keep 'em comin'!
I've taken my Schrade SCHF27 on a couple camping trips around here, and just took it on a camping trip in FInland last month. It's a great knife and takes a beating, does everything I need. This looks like a great next purchase.
Oh, and Mike I forgot to say, that you do great, honest and direct reviews. I had already bought my schf52 before I saw your review but it made feel much better about my purchase after I saw it. Thanks man.
Before I talk about the knife I'd like to say that I like your reviews and I think they're getting better and better as you become more practiced. I noticed you didn't say anything about the sheath but that's a relatively minor detail. I've been waiting and watching for these to come out because they look like a fun project to customize a little and seem considerably better than the Frontier series. I don't think it would take a rocket scientist to make a pair of grips for it and remove the coating Good Job!
+Kenneth Speed Thanks Ken. I really appreciate that. I did a whole segment on the sheath and wound up cutting it out, along with a bunch of other stuff. I could easily make these reviews 30+ minutes but folks don't want to sit that long for a knife review. The sheath is what it is. It's adequate. It works, and unlike the Tops sheath the strap has a button! I figured most people would want info on the knife itself so that's where I concentrated my editing. These are PRIME candidates for modifying!
Great review! Honest and informative. I like how the smaller blades have real sized handles. Too often companies make a shorter blade, shorter handle. That never made sense to me. If you by a shorter blade, you hands don't get smaller! Good job Schrade!
I've seen many knife reviews. So many don't seem to have good knife skills or talent in using knives. You have great skills in your methods and your reviews were great. I own a lot of Schrade knives. The SCHF52 is one I own. Thanks for the review. I have a number of survival packs. Now my day pack will include the 52 and 48 has my base blades.
Love your review. I was looking at the schf37. Watched a few reviews on this knife but wasn't sold till I saw your review. A no BS review. I look forward more of your videos. Thanks again.
I have been impreby Schrade's F9, I've had it for a while now. Its not as good as my Tops, but it only cost a 1/3 of my Tops knife. The schf52 is definitely getting my attention! Nice review mike!
I have had my schf52 for about a week now and I love it. Less than $50.00, actually $47.00 and change and that included shipping through Sears online. They were the first place I was able to find them. I think I am going to be very happy with it.
I own the little brother which is a very solid blade. I've also beat the hell out of it and still cutting strong. After watching this video I now want to add this Bad Boy to my EDC gear. I have quite a few of shrades that I use and never lets me down. Thanks for the video. I do a lot of out door activities when using my Shrades
Man oh man what a great video and demonstration of the 52 capabilities I've seen quite a few reviews and you're comes top, you've it decided for me ill be buying one. Keep up the good work brother 👍👌
You just sold me on this knife I order one, thanks for being honest, I was going to get the micarta but ya totally changed my mind. This is a great 1 tool survival-bushcraft beast of a knife, with a smaller size solid knife for little task to use along with it its a perfect set up.
Excellent review. I have the schf36, and I love it. For the price, I will pick one of these up and have the choice of taking a heavy knife...or a real heavy knife. I am assuming there is a significant difference in weight, but that becomes pointless when one tool is simply more beneficial than another to carry. From what I have seen from my 36, the quality is certainly there. It's a solid piece of hardware that can last a lifetime. That 52 you prefer is a proper looking knife; the way you worked it briefly on this video. Probably my next blade purchase. Thanks for sharing!
Got two for Christmas, one for Scott and one for myself., When I opened the box I was impressed with the overall balance, grip and weight of it. I'm glad there's no separations on the blade, never quite understood why a lot of manufactures started doing that, if you can't service the tool in the woods makes for more work, or having to carry a second blade. No need for anything heavier to process wood or build shelter, what else can be said for it. Good rough and tumble no nonsense sheath.maybe a longer separate pocket for a longer ferro rod. Seems like every knife now is coming with a ferro rod, most are more a novelty than a tool. If you're selling a brute of a knife, toss in a brute of a ferro rod too. I was looking at several other heavy knifes, 37 had my eye except for the finish then the reviews popped up on the 52 and the decision was easy, price point perfect. .
Excellent review Mike. The knife seems to hold up well and that was a thorough testing/ beating you gave it. Looks like the public can buy this knife with confidence it will perform as needed. Oh btw.. it's 2015 :-)
+Donny B Damnit!!! 2016?? Really? I'm an idiot! Oh well, people will figure it out. I think they can buy this with a lot of confidence. This was a small portion of the beating that knife has taken.
Great review! I totally agree with you that the F52 feels more capable than the F51, however I think both are very solid knives. I loved my F37 and used it extensively for chopping and batoning, but the F52 is so much more comfortable in my hand and the J hook on the pommel makes chopping much less fatiguing. I tend to beat on my Schrade knives a good deal and they don't let me down. The F51 and F52 are outstanding improvements over their predecessors.
Great video. A lot of people like the big knifes, but I like the shorter ones. I use a hatchet for the heavy stuff. We are all different. I tend to abuse knifes so cost is very important. Some of the custom knifes would be hard for me to use much because of the cost.
I'm not trying to say anything negative but I sure am glad a certain someone came up with a certain way of testing gear on TH-cam so we could get introduced into these other channels where they actually know how to test the gear.
Thanks for the honest and objective review, I have many schrades and love them all, I just got this one yesterday but haven't had a chance to beat on it yet......soon enough :)
Great video Mike. I always enjoy your perspective. Well thought out and reasonable. I may get a 51 and a 52 for slightly different uses. I'm thinking I'll get one in micarta and one in TPE, especially with the handles being the same I can swap them around and see which I like on what. I definitely like the aesthetics of the micarta a whole lot more. The balance differences it causes though may make me dislike it in the long run. Thanks again.
You are most welcome. I'm glad I could be of some help. For me, I really like the tpe. I'm going to work down those micarta grips though and see what I can come up with. Either way, it's a solid blade.
+Leslie S They are totally different knives. The mora is more designed for carving and making feather sticks and such. The Schrade is for chopping, batoning, and should be paired up with a mora or other small bushcraft knife.
Thanks for the great review! I was split between the smaller blade and the larger blade. U've swayed me toward the larger of the 2 and I'll be buying mine today!
Great Review, thank you. I've been looking at the SCHF52 as a larger outdoor knife and was waiting for a proper review to help me make my decision and you did the job. Thank you again.
Thanks for the review. I ordered mine from Wal-Mart. Just came in. My blade came razor sharp. The pouch is big enough for a Leatherman Wave plus the fire steel if you take the striker off. Or you could leave the striker dangling.
Great review! Also, a 1095 High Carbon knife with Micarta handles with an excellent heat treat with a diamond sharpening stone and a ferro rod for $50.00 bucks? Wow! I wonder if ESSE and KA-BAR are getting a bit nervous.
yea I saw one video but it was very blurry and didn't go into much detail I would think in a survival situation or just out in the field it would be good to know how to use the smaller sharpener the RIGHT way
Very well done review. I personally like the micarta handle scales over the TPE. I hope to get some of the new models coming out. I wish they upgraded the 38 though... I like the looks of the bigger one over the smaller one. I'm glad you tested them so much before the video. I'd like to see if you modify them in any way. I appretiate your honesty. Honesty and integrety can be diffecult to find nowadays. Your a cool dude in my opinion. Keep it up. Thanks
Hi Ted. First, thank you very much for the kind words. I really appreciate that. I agree with you about the 38! I actually asked the company VP about that and he said they decided not to include the 38 in the upgrade process because it just didn't sell as well as the other models. The micarta isn't bad after it's been sanded down.
+Blue Mountain Bushcraft and Outdoors Ya, the 38 did not seem to popular. I personally really like the 38, the 6" cutting edge is perfect and and I'm not to much a fan of choils on smaller blades. But the choil on the 52 I would'nt mind. Thanks
I agree 100% Schrade has made me a believer. In my large collection of really nice knives I own the SCHF 17 and the 9N. Both offer top quality and great bang for the buck. The 17 has that rough coating, yet it's still a beast in batoning and that Tanto point has several useful functions. And a good friend of my last year skinned and butchered an Elk with his 9N. Soooo...I'm still waiting...I want the 52 with the TPE grip. Same material as my 9N.....and I really like the material a lot. I just wish Schrade would finally get around to releasing these. I mean, we're damned near Nov already. I also like the fact that it comes with a diamond sharpener block and a ferro rod included. Just how in the hell does one beat that!!!??? Good review on great knives.
+Charles Larson Yeah, some of their designs don't suit me but they are constantly trying to improve things. I don't remember which one the 17 is. I'll have to look that up. I hear nothing but good about the 9N. I need to try one of those. They are released Charles. They are here and hitting the dealers as we speak.
+Blue Mountain Bushcraft and Outdoors Well thanks for that release info!!! It was Chris Tanner who did a comparison between the the 9 and the 9N.....and while he feels the 9N was not as good at batoning as the 9, (which makes some sense when one looks at the 9 which is basically a chisel with an edge) he still preferred the 9N...as the 9N is a slight hollow grind and out performs the 9 in all other tasks. Again, thanks fr that info.
OK I got the 52 TPE and at first I was a bit unsure but it has grown on me and I love chopping tent stakes and clearing branches its a workhorse. My only con is that the TPE feels a bit to thin just wish it had a little big of a palm swell, also the choil being a bit big but with gloves it feels great. I think I may have liked the Micarta grip better but that gives me a reason to get the 51m I just gotta have one. If you could I've asked other reviewers to hit Schrade up about offering their stock scales for people like me who would like to switch grips on a budget, they could make more $$$$ on knives they already sold us;) I love your reviews brother excellent info.
Thank you. I will certainly mention it to them. There is a small business that offers custom micarta scales for these knives and for the life of me I can't remember their name.....
Just got my "52" and am very pleased. Personally I never put my tools nor toys to the extreme tests as you have done to this knife but it is good to know that should I neeed to ever go to extremes the knife will stand up and deliver. My wife and I are quite interested in outdoor survival things but it seems that there is little for folks in our age brackets, 65 and up. Still it is easy to believe that seniors could fall into circumstances of needing survival skills and equipment. Your thoughts please.
+Mike Childers that knife will serve you well. I don't think that you're age should be much of a hindrance. "Survival" and "bushcraft" have always been much more about mindset and knowledge than strength and equipment.
I happened to have my SCHF52 in my hand when I ran across this video. I think it is a great survival knife, a little heavy but built to last for generations if maintained. It is well suited for all those things shown in this video. Mine is extremely sharp and has a lanyard that I wrap either two or three times around my wrist depending on the task at hand. The model was based on a previous award winning model, and I think it is an improvement. Actually I was thinking of two improvements that would make the knife even better. Anyway years ago I sold Old Timer knives, a subsidiary of Schrade, and they were quite popular and had some great designs. I did a good bit of shopping around and for what I needed it surpassed anything in its class. My belief was that you would have to spend 50-200% more to find something better. Oh and buy the way one thing not mentioned in this video that I have used it for is vines and tall grasses. Because I keep it so sharp, and due to its length, and with the lanyard set properly, and because of the handles great design, I can hold the knife securely with three fingers which extends my reach even more. It's like a small machete. Overall I think it is a great knife for the price, and I am very happy with it. I even have an unboxing video of that and another of my favorite knives. I even have videos of me shaving a full beard with a knife. Keep sharp people.
Great blade, I enjoy my SCHF36 it's a great knife. Thanks a heap, I really enjoy the smooth finger choil on my 36, I want the 51 or 52. The Choil lets me handle the part of the blade that always stays sharp and I can so fine work with it.
Hey Mike, been going through your back catalogue because I (we) miss ya. Would love to see an update video on this knife and what you think about it now.
Just noticed a chip out of the very tip/point of my 52... should be able to grind out another one, but just wanted to pass this along. It's about 1mm so it will just be a little more drop point from now on. Peace out!
It's really so tiny I think I'll use my Worksharp on it... I'll probably buy a new one too. OR, do you think Taylor Brands would even bother to replace it?
+Eric Tilley if it's that small I think they might be hesitant to replace it. They do stand behind their products though. I would just work it out myself though if it's that small, I probably wouldn't do anything with it at all.
Yeah, that does make more sense. I already bought a lower priced replacement and the sheath on the new one is messed up because the pin that holds the plastic liner in the nylon sheath has pulled through the nylon and the liner comes out with the knife... so, just switched them and all is well. I'll fix the sheath later.
Great video Mike, but I would love to see a review of the smaller version. Still haven't embraced the "large" knife concept. Grew up carrying an axe and probably always will so a knife that chops is not of importance to me at this stage of my outdoors experience. So any plans to try out the 51?
I understand that. I've tried the 51 and it's a very good knife. I just gravitated towards the 52. I'll spend some time with the 51 and see if there is a video worth making.
I have always loved bigger knives but the 51 looks pretty big in your hand in your opinion would the 52 do as well in skinning and preparing game as the 51?
I think it would be a fair bit more awkward to use, though it will certainly do the job. I wouldn't choose either as a primary game processing blade though.
I have a 37, which I just modified, as has nearly everybody, I guess. I now have a question. I have a Work Sharp Knife & Tool Sharpener that has guides for both 25-degree and 30-degree bevels. I use the 25 on all my blades except two: the 37 and an old Case fixed blade that a friend gave me. Am I wrong in going for the more, I think, robust angle on the two knives I'll certainly work harder than my other knives?
Wrong? No, not at all. If that works for you then run with it. I prefer a 40° inclusive (20° on each side). I find that it hold up well to heavy use while still being able to carve fairly well.
I'm getting one real soon going fir the micarta handle. I just picked up the Gerber BG parables knife today as it was the only good knife in my local shop but I'm deffo going to order one if these off the net very soon I can't wait to own it :()
Hi thanks for the review Big help when looking for a knife. You said you re-profiled the blade. Could you say what angle you re-profiled the blade to and what benefits this had. Thanks
+Sara Hancock those knives are very different. If smaller, fine work and carving were my goal I'd get the Condor. If I wanted something for heavy duty wood processing I'd get the 52.
I"m looking forward to getting one of these knives - the non M version. Probably the 51. On a side note, your camera resolution is just so crisp. Do you mind telling me what camera you use? Many thanks and greetings from Pittsburgh. Laura
+Lellobeetle Thank you. Up until recently I was using my GoPro for everything. After my computer died I was forced to go to using my iPhone for both recording and editing. These last few I shot entirely on my iPhone 6S Plus and I'm so impressed with the video quality that I think I'm going to stick with it.
Great finger choil. I'm convinced that other than certain custom knife maker's products, the finger choil on these Schrade bushcraft knives is absolutely superior to everything else out there in that regard. I hate finger choils where the blade starts right at the edge of the choil. After working with the knife all day building a shelter or whatever, my hand gets worn out and normally articulate finger movements become less so. Therefore with a finger choil where the sharpness begins right at the edge there is a potential to screw up and cut yourself via unknowingly gripping the choil in the wrong spot. The Schrade Frontier series etc solve that problem by giving you that little dull space.
The reason IMO for knife manufacturers to start the edge of the blade right where choil stops is: A: They are looking to MAXIMIZE advertised length, while using the LEAST amount of material possible. (SAD, but true.) You add a 0.250 dull space, that detracts from total advertised blade length, which makes your product fall into the next lower "size" class. B: They are importers, See A above. C: They have no concept of what happens in the "Real-World". Anyone with 1/2 a brain who has USED a knife (Or any other tool) knows as you point out at the end of the day /cold weather "articulate finger movements" aren't happening and a injury is statistically a given if using a knife in which the edge of blade runs right up to choil. To me having the edge run right up to the choil is like positioning the On/OFF switch, or other control device right next to the blade of a band-saw. table-saw, circular saw... 100 ton stamping press. Stomp, Stomp, Stomp.... Oh no Bob got sucked into 100 ton press. Oh, About a month ago I met a guy who lost his arm that way. He said he was lucky he didn't get killed. D: Scenario D is fancy, dancy custom knife maker will run edge to choil, exhorting his products are "For Professionals", the "Highly Trained".... When in fact option A (See "A" above ) is alive and kicking. (Blanks/stock costs money and weird sized stock costs more.)
Yeah, these are great knives period. I have the SCHF37 that I stripped the coating, sanded the gimping, and love it. If I had waited now, I would go with the 52. I like it better than the BK7.
Great video, I really liked your review. I'm gonna start watching more of your stuff as soon as I hit the subscribe button, after leaving this comment. Seems like your down to earth, honest and informative in this video. Thanks
Hello Mike. I don't know whether it has been asked before or not. I hope not anyway. But how did you find that jimping on the SCHF-52?? Personally I really don't like it on my knives, but at the price offered, I can always fill it carefully with epoxy or something. My only concern is whether it gets uncomfortable or not. If it does, then sadly I shall have to give the 52 a miss. On another note. Where you said about the micarta handles giving a more substantial grip... If you prefer the weight and feel of the rubberised scales, why not just make some liners out of the sides of HDPE milk bottles or maybe a thicker plastic from an old gallon container and use them to bulk out the handle without overly increasing the weight? If the plastic is arced or curved, you can warm it in the oven and squeeze it gently flat between two pieces of wood. Don't overdo the heat though. Just a thought
Well, I'm not a big fan of jimping either and if I had my way this would not have any. As it is though, it's not a deal breaker for me. Going with the micarta all but eliminated the jimping and I know there are aftermarket places that will make scales however you want them. I'm not a big fan of Schrades micarta. It's just throws the balance off. I like the tpe scales.
+Blue Mountain Bushcraft and Outdoors I think I hear the sounds of screws being undone, metal being filed and epoxy resin being mixed in my near future, as I ordered one of these yesterday (the 52). Should be here tomorrow :) You could say that you managed to help talk me into "needing" at least one more knife...
+MrTatts64 I think you will really like it. You know there is a guy over there in the UK doing some really sweet micarta scales for these. He is Carey Customs on Facebook.
+Blue Mountain Bushcraft and Outdoors Really? That'll be very handy to know thanks Mike. I shall go find him on there now before I forget (age thing!) to do so. I dropped in a request to join up to your page yesterday too. Not been on FB today as yet though. Many thanks again for that Mike. Much appreciated. Andy.
Hi there. I stripped a schf37m just after received it , and i discovered nothing less than a split blade and very bad quality steel with folds and bubble. My dealer does not want to refund me and i haven't any news from schrade's customer service after 4 attempts . Any advice?
I have one ( schf52m ) yes sand it to your liking. love the knife - tool. want kidex for it but 60$ or so lol. looking for a good leather for it. some times you can buy a cheep knife and use the sheath. did it for the Mora and love it. 13 bucks throw away knife.. good day, keep sharp...
Schrade offers some really good knife designs but they have had some issues with their heat treatment in the past. If you get one that properly treated then you are good to go. I have the schf 51 and the schf 56L and I have properly thumped and thrashed on them both extensively with no problems. I mainly use them for hard use task that I don't want use my more expensive knives for and they have never let me down.
Good review! Did they fall apart yet? Really had an Esee 5 or 6 on my wish list..but being on a budget and broke all the time, i can buy both of these and still have change left for a big mac.
52 micarta handle broke like glass simple batoning and it chipped right by bolt. Was doing a review and it snapped off. Please fix and make right Schrade!!
The 51 and 52 are two of my favorite models in their line up.
They are outstanding.
I haven't seen a negative review yet for this knife. Seems like a winner. I'm thinking of grabbing one for a 'one tool' option to save some hiking pack weight, and leave my saw and hatchet for car/canoe camping. Thanks for the review.

@@lesabotageur I broke an esee 6 so dont tell me they are the best
I just got my first Schrade a SCHF36 and i'm very impressed by it. Under 50 Euro for this magnificent piece of work. Awsome really.
Ok, I'm going to go build a fire with my 52 today... You've inspired me!
Excellent! Put it on video!
I like the idea that you went into this with a solid arrangement with Shrade to tell the truth. As always a solid review. Thanks..
Thank you A J.
I've just recently come across your videos. You have a new sub. Keep 'em comin'!
Thanks for the sub! You've got your daughter well trained.
Got another 52 a few months ago. This one is very good. The first generation had issues. Great review and an outstanding knife.
I've taken my Schrade SCHF27 on a couple camping trips around here, and just took it on a camping trip in FInland last month. It's a great knife and takes a beating, does everything I need. This looks like a great next purchase.
I think you would be very happy with it.
Oh, and Mike I forgot to say, that you do great, honest and direct reviews. I had already bought my schf52 before I saw your review but it made feel much better about my purchase after I saw it. Thanks man.
Thanks for the kind words. I really appreciate that. I really do my best.

I've seen many knife reviews. So many don't seem to have good knife skills or talent in using knives. You have great skills in your methods and your reviews were great. I own a lot of Schrade knives. Love your review. I was looking at the schf37. Watched a few reviews on this knife but wasn't sold till I saw your review. A no BS review. I look forward more of your videos. Thanks again.
Thanks Rick. I try to call it as I see it.
First time to see any of your videos. Striked me as an honest, clear review. Really helpful. Thanks for sharing and hope you are still in you tube.
I have been impreby Schrade's F9, I've had it for a while now. Its not as good as my Tops, but it only cost a 1/3 of my Tops knife. The schf52 is definitely getting my attention! Nice review mike!
I've only just started getting some experience with the SCHF9 and so far I like the 52 much more. Though if I had to baton a Cadillac I'd grab the 9!
I have had my schf52 for about a week now and I love it. Less than $50.00, actually $47.00 and change and that included shipping through Sears online. They were the first place I was able to find them. I think I am going to be very happy with it.
I think you will be too.
Schrade is making some good stuff now days.. Especially on a budget. I like that 52 as well.
Great review Mike.
Thank you. They really are.
Man oh man what a great video and demonstration of the 52 capabilities I've seen quite a few reviews and you're comes top, you've it decided for me ill be buying one. Keep up the good work brother 👍👌
The SCHF52M is on my buy list. Thanks for the review.
You just sold me on this knife I order one, thanks for being honest, I was going to get the micarta but ya totally changed my mind. This is a great 1 tool survival-bushcraft beast of a knife, with a smaller size solid knife for little task to use along with it its a perfect set up.
I agree. Unless you need to process a high volume or really large wood this fits the bill perfectly.
I was looking at several other heavy knifes, 37 had my eye except for the finish then the reviews popped up on the 52 and the decision was easy, price point perfect.
.
This is a pure no nonsense tool that is capable of fighting well above its weight class. This one is just a no brainer.
Yeah well today Is.. Back To The Future Day. Like I said Excellent review, well done
I have the 52 and it is great as my go to knife. It is a very comfortable, versatile and solid.
Thanks for the heads up. I just ordered the 52. I skipped on the 37 waiting for this version. Looks like a great knife.
It is. Where did you order it?
Knife Depot
+sameold77 Ok. Yeah, I just saw they had them listed today. Cool! I hope you really enjoy it.
They are definitely both capable. I just prefer the 52 because I think it just gives more bang for the buck.
Great video. A lot of people like the big knifes, but I like the shorter ones. I use a hatchet for the heavy stuff. We are all different. I tend to abuse knifes so cost is very important. Some of the custom knifes would be hard for me to use much because of the cost.
This 51 would be perfect for you then. It's will take a serious beating.
Glad to get an honest opinion. This helped me out. Thanks.
+directorgtr I'm glad to hear that. That's my goal
I'm not trying to say anything negative but I sure am glad a certain someone came up with a certain way of testing gear on TH-cam so we could get introduced into these other channels where they actually know how to test the gear.
+Surago Thank you!
Thanks for the honest and objective review, I have many schrades and love them all, I just got this one yesterday but haven't had a chance to beat on it yet......soon enough :)
+Jim Fuller have fun with it. I think it will serve you very well.
Great review as always Mike; always built on a platform of real-world use. Thanks for that.
+Charles Collier You are welcome. I don't like to review something I haven't used.
Is that Walter from big lebowski?
I'll have to see where on Guam I can look into one of these knives.
I got the old frontiers 5 in and 7 in striped coating and blued them love them !!!!Might get the new ones for grand kids.
That sounds like an excellent plan. Thanks for watching!
I have the schf 9 and I love it! 1095 steel has held an excellent edge! Great Review!
I just picked a 51up off Amazon for 38 bucks and so far I'm super happy with it. I wonder how much they were 6-7 years ago new.
Brother i love that blade, had a chance to test it and cant wait til it hits the market! Good video sir!!
+SUFFICIENT SURVIVAL It's here now. Start checking the retailers. I got that from the VP of Taylor Brands this morning.
Good review. I'm sold. I'll be getting the 52M... Thanks man!
+Iratus Jackalope Thanks! You will like the M. It just needs a little standing to smooth out the edges of the handle.
+Leslie S They are totally different knives. The mora is more designed for carving and making feather sticks and such. The Schrade is for chopping, batoning, and should be paired up with a mora or other small bushcraft knife.
Great choice of background music - liked it so much I had to Shazam it. Thanks!
I was considering getting one, now I am for sure going to get one.
Thanks for the great review! I was split between the smaller blade and the larger blade. U've swayed me toward the larger of the 2 and I'll be buying mine today!
Excellent Review Mike. Very well done.
Thank you for your efforts and opinions.
Thank you sir. I appreciate that.
Great Review, thank you. I've been looking at the SCHF52 as a larger outdoor knife and was waiting for a proper review to help me make my decision and you did the job. Thank you again.
Thank you for the kind words Scott. It's a solid choice that I think you will be happy with.
I have a SCHF 37M it is a great knife I would say best I have ever had Schrade is a good knife
Thanks for the review. I ordered mine from Wal-Mart. Just came in. My blade came razor sharp. The pouch is big enough for a Leatherman Wave plus the fire steel if you take the striker off. Or you could leave the striker dangling.
I like the way that guy speak. It's easy to understand.
Great review! Also, a 1095 High Carbon knife with Micarta handles with an excellent heat treat with a diamond sharpening stone and a ferro rod for $50.00 bucks? Wow! I wonder if ESSE and KA-BAR are getting a bit nervous.
+Bluegrass Survival I think the new ones are as good or better than all my Beckers.
Great review, Great chanel, good knife period!
Thank you!
do you by chance have a video on how to sharpen the large 52 blade on the smaller stone?
I don't, but that is a great idea for a short video.
yea I saw one video but it was very blurry and didn't go into much detail I would think in a survival situation or just out in the field it would be good to know how to use the smaller sharpener the RIGHT way
Very well done review.
Thanks
Update date???? I sisn't realise you can now time travel too Mike? You sure are a man of MANY talents indeed :)
Wouldn't that be a fun trick? Lol!
I really like Schrades hollow grind. It makes a big difference in performance with these thick knives.
That was a great video. One of the best reviews I’ve seen. Thank you
can't wait till they come out, been waiting for months
They are out now.
I just won the 52 m from Schrade ..Cant wait to use it .. Thanks on the info ..
Great job man, I've been on the fence for a while now. I'm gonna go ahead and pick one up. Thanks man
I don't think you will regret it. Thanks for watching!
Once again a great review and someone who does thing's with the knife other than just talk about it.
Thanks Dave. I don't know how you can do a review without using a knife.
I like the way you sharpened this knife. Can you explain what's the best way to sharpen it? Maybe a video? Thank you, awesome review.
I could do that. I just need to find the time!
Peace out!
+Eric Tilley I hate when that happens. Fortunately my 52 has not done that.
It's really so tiny I think I'll use my Worksharp on it... I'll probably buy a new one too. OR, do you think Taylor Brands would even bother to replace it?
Btw, great videos. Keep em coming!
This is how every knife review ought to be.
Thanks!
Can you find out when it will be on Amazon please
I wish I could. I have no idea how stuff like this takes to get to Amazon.
I own the SCHF 37 and it's an excellent knife!
I just picked up the Gerber BG parables knife today as it was the only good knife in my local shop but I'm deffo going to order one if these off the net very soon I can't wait to own it :()
with theses , wrap the choil with para cord. I did with my 52 and like it. got to open the plastic insert a bit. but no big...
good day, be sharp.....
Hi thanks for the review
Big help when looking for a knife.
You said you re-profiled the blade. Could you say what angle you re-profiled the blade to and what benefits this had.
Thanks
thank you very much I think I will get the 52 and let you know after my hunting trip how it skinned and prepared the game
Please do!
Great honest video. I just subbed you. Great vid. Good to see the promise of a good year test instead of a week.
+Wheels gone Wild thank you sir.
Would you buy a condor bush lore or the schrade52 or 51
+Sara Hancock those knives are very different. If smaller, fine work and carving were my goal I'd get the Condor. If I wanted something for heavy duty wood processing I'd get the 52.
what do you like better the schf52 or the Becker BK 5
After 4 yrs what's your thoughts any changes
I broke 2. The 42 and the 26. Both at the jimping
+Blue Mountain Bushcraft and Outdoors Thanks for your reply. Your video quality is one of the best I've seen on TH-cam. atb, Laura
have you managed to brake that tank?
+JT Bikes nope!
+Mad Max they are a very well designed and executed knife. I think you get much more than what you pay for.
The reason IMO for knife manufacturers to start the edge of the blade right where choil stops is:
A: They are looking to MAXIMIZE advertised length, while using the LEAST amount of material possible.
I like it more than the BK7 as well. I haven't stripped and blued mine yet but I will.
Great video, I really liked your review. I'm gonna start watching more of your stuff as soon as I hit the subscribe button, after leaving this comment. Seems like your down to earth, honest and informative in this video. Thanks
Oct 21 2016? good reveiw
Thanks for the review really helped my decision
Can you tell me if schrade schf 59 and 42 are good?
+Blue Mountain Bushcraft and Outdoors
Really? That'll be very handy to know thanks Mike. I shall go find him on there now before I forget (age thing!) to do so. I dropped in a request to join up to your page yesterday too. Not been on FB today as yet though.
Many thanks again for that Mike. Much appreciated. Andy.
still going strong ?
Hi there. I stripped a schf37m just after received it , and i discovered nothing less than a split blade and very bad quality steel with folds and bubble. My dealer does not want to refund me and i haven't any news from schrade's customer service after 4 attempts . Any advice?
I'll go for the micarta handle. Hope I don't make a wrong choice.
I got the micarta its a little rough though i might file it down with some sand paper
I own both knives and they are amazing, more for the money!
+GrasDeRost they are a great value.
Heck no! They are still going strong. You can buy one with confidence.
What type of ferro rod do you have it looks like it has a handle?
52 micarta handle broke like glass simple batoning and it chipped right by bolt. Was doing a review and it snapped off. Please fix and make right Schrade!!
good review man
i also like the music in the video
