      Face ID is more secure, what would be even more secure if they could combine face ID with eye retina scans

  •  หลายเดือนก่อน +165

    Face ID doesn’t compare 3d scan of your face with original 3d scan. It actually compares it with some recent 3d scan of your face. Hence it can learn and adapt how your face changes over time (gaining weight, growing mustache etc) I know it’s a nit pick tho. It’s a great video overall

    3:24 you not only said it wrong but also showed it wrongly, ambient light sensor is to make the display dimmer in the dark, so it doesn’t blind you, and brighter in the light so you can still visibly see the content on your screen

    9:11 There’s a little misinformation here. It’s is not checking for just your face, but also your eyes should be looking at the phone. Hold your iPhone to your face but don’t look at it. It won’t unlock your iPhone. Once you move your eyes to your iPhone, it unlocks. This is why it is called “Attention Awareness”.

    Another important caveat, especially in comparison to the passcode: It's much more easier for someone wanting to unlock your phone with touch ID and face ID without you knowing or consenting than it is with a passcode. A police officer might force you to tell him your passcode, but with face ID he can just quickly unlock it by holding it at your face for a few seconds.

    3:26 no. Your phone doesn't get brighter in the dark and dimmer in the light. Why would it even do that? The screen gets brighter in the light so that you can see it. And dimmer in the dark so that it doesn't blind you. Your eyes adapt to the light level around you. In the dark your pupils open to let more light in. A bright screen would be too bright for your eyes. So it dims it. Opposite for daytime.

    I’ve had a significant issue with each unlocking method. Trying to use touchID with lotion hands (especially in the winter when my dry skin gets reptilian without it) and trying to use FaceID when I’ve just woken up (my phone would have you believe I’m a completely unrecognizable alien creature for 30 minutes). Both are annoying, but the extra security of faceID wins it for me (since they updated the iOS with mask compatibility, anyway). Thanks for another fascinating video!

    • @lamemechose7072
      @lamemechose7072 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Unless it’s changed, the limit is two appearances. Mask on and mask off use the them both. :( I said when they added the mask recognition that I hoped they’d add that as an additional option, rather than it using up one of the two.

    • @AaronFigFront

I went on a random google rabbit hole after this and was able to find a pretty interesting 2021 paper published in the Society for Information Display (SID) where the vendor that makes Apple's current FaceID/dot projector array (OTI Lumionics) has figured out a way to etch glass with enough translucence for under display tech. And other display rumors I've read about Apple project a 2026-2027 launch for under display FaceID which would line up with patent to product dev cycle.
