Reminds me of Ron Swanson in Parks & Recreation. "When it comes to government hearings the only type of witness I enjoy being is a hostile one, that's why intend to answer every one of their questions with a question.." Same show creator.. Haha.
it's just the American fans are soft and they want cute couples like Jim and Pam like every sitcom, they can't stand an enigmatic character who got dark humor
I love him as well, but it's true that he was off rhythm. The writing and the acting were on point, the character in itself was just making it too hard to fit in this universe.
@@ZeufAabe I personally don't feel this way. The show had already gotten much more complex by season 8 and heavily focussed on characters. If they would have introduced another boss like micheal or deangelo I would've honestly stopped watching, so it was breath of fresh air to see a character that so doesn't fit in the environment trying to adapt there, plus he was only there for one season. Season 8 was almost entirely saved by Robert and Dwight though, everything else had just gotten too meh.
I really admire how Andy reacts to this list the office saw Robert had made. Throwing/attempting to throw a pizza party when Robert takes the “cool kids” to dinner. It shows one of the ways he was a good boss, sometimes he cared about them and hated to see them sad, hence why he's always making stupid jokes. Doesn't happen often but he really does something good there.
He's a crime boss now in the witness protection program. He goes by Robert California, is very intimidating, lives a lavish lifestyle, and is not afraid to be on camera. Think about it.
I'm really quite shocked to find so many people dislike Robert California. Ray Ramano's character was the only other interviewee that would have been an interesting fit. But James Spader made Robert so damn facsinating.
This was such an underrated character, in an otherwise great season of The Office. Yes, Michael was gone, but they didn't attempt to replace him with a carbon copy of the same thing. The show also had more stories to tell, and this was a great diversion.
I always loved how they just re-made the show instead of trying to copy Michael Scott. Unfortunately this character went under rated and they replaced with him a new version of Andy who was just that, a a carbon copy of Michael Scott. And the copy is never as good as the original. I liked season 8 but season 9 was just horrible. Plus Ryan and Kelly weren’t there any more and I feel their absence in the writing more than as characters on the show.
@@Praevalidum It’s hard to explain, but it’s kinda like a “I have no idea what you’re talking about 👀👀” - it’s obvious that the list means something, him moving Andy’s name proved that, but he dismissed it. Kinda gaslighting I guess, the line delivery is what really makes it funny.
I have no clue why people hate Robert so much. He's such a fantastic actor. I personally loved his character because of that deep voice, his sexual personality, his odd and unexpected remarks and not to mention his intelect. Maybe he didn't fit in the office but I loved everytime he was on screen.
I loved him on the show ! Didn’t like him the same when he was on Seinfeld hahah. Big difference but shows what an incredibly committed actor he is !!! I had no idea people didn’t like him on the office. Omg he was perfect in his role ! I think it needed having his character in its time. He’s profound and risqué and commanding and compelling. The way he carried himself alone just matched the dynamic of who his character represented ! I think it was very well done having him on the show and the job he did playing Robert California. I think the ones who couldn’t stand him Happen to also be the ones that not shockingly lol are likely only able to understand the typical crap where they don’t wanna ever be made to think for themselves or have any profound conversations or ideas .. they just fall into the typical boring cog and anyone that can’t appreciate the depth of The character just isn’t going to get it.
He's a great character. I think people just disliked anyone who tried to replace Michael, since he's the centerpiece of the whole show and nobody was going to fill that void. Also it was pretty unbelievable (even for this show) that someone like Robert would be at all interested in running a Dunder Mifflin branch.
I found Robert’s character very funny. He says the strangest yet relevant thing. He didn’t like the manager job so he drove to Florida from Pennsylvania to convince the CEO to give him the CEO’s job and did it! In like a corvette no less
When I first saw the office and the interview scene came and I rewatched that entire scene atleast 2-3 times coz it was so different than normal office comedy. It was unique and extremely funny for my taste. I was immediately looking forward to see more of Robert California. Such a great character.
Underrated character but I thought one season was the right amount for Robert California. James Spider is an exceptional actor and was perfect for this role
And many people don’t realise that the change in Andy in season 9 was only brought on because of Nelly, he hated her guts but couldn’t fire her. Also weird because he let her stay when he got his job back at first but in the start of season 9 he was cranky af with her.
There are three types of well written villains: Gabe: The one you almost feel sorry for Todd Packer: The one you hate with burning passion Robert California: The one who is too epic to hate

I'll never get the hate for Bobby California. In a show full of awkwardness nobody is more awkward than Robert. His interview always gets me, just rambling on about nothing but left the room throughly impressed

Reminds me of Ron Swanson in Parks & Recreation. "When it comes to government hearings the only type of witness I enjoy being is a hostile one, that's why intend to answer every one of their questions with a question.." Same show creator.. Haha.

I don’t understand why everybody hated him, I thought he was very interesting
Me too...
it's just the American fans are soft and they want cute couples like Jim and Pam like every sitcom, they can't stand an enigmatic character who got dark humor
I love him as well, but it's true that he was off rhythm. The writing and the acting were on point, the character in itself was just making it too hard to fit in this universe.
he creeps me out
@@ZeufAabe I personally don't feel this way.

"They draw houses, penises. Funny how the houses are always colonials, and the penises are always circumcised."

I'm really quite shocked to find so many people dislike Robert California.
Ray Ramano's character was the only other interviewee that would have been an interesting fit. But James Spader made Robert so damn facsinating.
He very annoying.I don't like the way he talks
For me, it felt like he didn't fit in the show. I didn't hate him but I felt like he would have been better in some other show.
I found him quite fascinating too lol his character is shocking to me though especially with that pool scene
Spader played this role BRILLIANTLY.
What about when Jim Carrey applied for the job I would’ve loved it
This was such an underrated character, in an otherwise great season of The Office. Yes, Michael was gone, but they didn't attempt to replace him with a carbon copy of the same thing. The show also had more stories to tell, and this was a great diversion.
Absolutely, the more I rewatch the office the more appreciation I have for later seasons, they were great as well
Agreed.

James Spader has some of the most epic monologues in TV history.
You misspelled "pretentious".
Reddington has the best monologues.
I have no clue why people hate Robert so much. He's such a fantastic actor. I personally loved his character because of that deep voice, his sexual personality, his odd and unexpected remarks and not to mention his intelect. Maybe he didn't fit in the office but I loved everytime he was on screen.
I totally agree. I dont get the hating on him.
Maybe he is a marmite character... But I enjoyed his time on screen...😊

I think the ones who couldn’t stand him Happen to also be the ones that not shockingly lol are likely only able to understand the typical crap where they don’t wanna ever be made to think for themselves or have any profound conversations or ideas .. they just fall into the typical boring cog and anyone that can’t appreciate the depth of

Ig because the humor is more often subtle in The Office while Robert was straight up all the time.
He's a great character. I think people just disliked anyone who tried to replace Michael, since he's the centerpiece of the whole show and nobody was going to fill that void. Also it was pretty unbelievable (even for this show) that someone like Robert would be at all interested in running a Dunder Mifflin branch.
"You look overqualified."
"Do I look like someone who would waste my own time?"
Honestly, the greatest response to that question.
I found Robert’s character very funny. He says the strangest yet relevant thing. He didn’t like the manager job so he drove to Florida from Pennsylvania to convince the CEO to give him the CEO’s job and did it! In like a corvette no less
