    Snap-on uses Super Lube-21030 Synthetic Multi-Purpose Grease, 3 Oz.

    I just called snap on , they sent me the rebuild kit for free. They also gave me an option of just replacing it for free.
    Next time call the snap on warranty department!!!

    For the next time, hold the ratchet by the bottom of the handle and tap on the top of the handle near the head (plate facing up of course) with a wooden screwdriver handle. Inertia will do all the dirty work. You're welcome.

    If you have a Dremel, you could have cleaned the inside of the ratchet body with a small wire wheel.

      @Jack Thomas - Absolutely correct! ...if I had one.

    Opening the tool does not void the warranty, Snap-on suggest that you do this when using the rebuild kits. They sell rebuild kits for these tools in case you happen to break one. I've never personally broken one, their tools are damn good. (Better be for how expensive they are)

      Honestly you would have just been better off going to the snap on truck, and telling him you want it exchanged for a new one, or rebuilt. Their lifetime warranty is for anyone that is in possession of the product. If you find random Snap-on tools, you can have them warrantied at any time. If they no longer make that tool they will give you their modern equivalent. I found a few old Snap-on sockets, and ended up breaking one (my fault). Handed it to the Snap-on man, and he just gave me a new one.

    Nice job! You were much better off ordering a rebuilt kit instead of trying to salvage the rusted internals. Surprised SnapOn used cheap pot medal on the lever and didn't do a better job greasing the inside to prevent all the rust from forming.

    I would have labeled this clip, "Embracing the journey of repairing a 1/4in snapon ratchet " rather than "How to repair.." being you didn't know how to repair it when you started to record.
    Personally, I would have started with rust remover of some kind, trying not to break any parts..
    That said, you did ok reading the instructions and following the snapon factory repair directions.

      Usually that’s a good idea but I already knew the thing was toast and I didn’t want to deal with a wet tool.

    was the liquid that you used to clean the inside just 100% alcohol

    • @Casey_Schmidt
      @Casey_Schmidt  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @mtb_sam - It was 91% isopropyl alcohol. I think I forgot to mention that...

    What could you do if one of the plates screws head breaks off and the thread of the screw is still in the rat get head ?

    • @Casey_Schmidt
      @Casey_Schmidt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That would be very tricky to remove. My first thought would be a left hand drill bit. With how small the screw is, it would be a real challenge. Try getting it replaced completely on the Snap-On truck.

    On second thought, you should've watched a TH-cam video to learn how to do this before you made a video to show us how to do this.
