It’s amazing how that just sounds like Rob Chapman. The frustration with pressing buttons and them doing something he didn’t want them to do is too relatable! Always learning curve with these devices but once you got it down pat it’s worth it!
Rob, good to see you enjoying the helix gear! I was a die hard tube guy with a big board... started out with a line 6 m13 replacing my time based effects, then picked up a helix and went full in. Currently at home running HX native in my daw through studio monitors and love how easy it is to play along with tracks, record, and jam in general. Cheers
I have the normal HX Stomp, I have used live for bass a good few times and also guitar abit. The fact they keep updating it has kept it alive unlike other brands.
Your Presets sounds amazing! I love it and what your fingers gave us on our ears! Thank you for that Rob! Would be very happy if you share your presets with us one day! Good luck for the common shows and have fun on stage
Chapman guitars are really good man. Uve put up with alot and wentvthru alot to get the instruments u envisioned and man ill tell u those guitars are high quality.
I’m a big fan of the Stomp XL. I don’t need a ton of DSP but the extra buttons make for a nice QoL upgrade and the 4th Snapshot is amazing over the regular Stomp for clean, crunch, heavy, and solo setups. The lifehack is to put a Digitech Drop in front of it instead of using half your DSP on a poly pitch block. I have a mini pedalboard (the Pedal Train Nano Plus) with the Drop, HX Stomp XL, and a Walrus Audio Canvas Line Isolator (a glorified converter to XLR and not use a dongle or cable converter for this use case) on it with a Cioks Sol powering things - there’s a line doubler for sale to power the Stomp from 2 of the 5 ports. This little board is perfect on its own for DI, or in front of an amp or go sicko mode as an effect unit in 4CM with an amp. And it has MIDI so if your head uses it, you can program in your channel switches into the patch. It’s buckwild how flexible this Stomp XL is. You don’t need a wah or whammy pedal, right? 😅 (Well, I have the big kahuna board with a wah, whammy DT, and stuff too 😂)
The stomp is an amazing unit, holds it's own against a lot of the digital stuff. Especially with all the updates line 6 keep giving us for free (shhh dont tell them...), its basically not the same pedal naymore (in a good way!) as it was when it/the helix first came out. I had a gig in Belfast and just put the stomp in my carry on for the plane and was so grateful to have a consistent sound that sounded good. Btw, quick thing to be aware of. Just make sure that if you are wanting to go stereo then don't put a mono block/effect after the stereo one. It will sum it back to mono. (E.g. you want stereo delay but put a mono reverb after, the delay will also now be mono). Also the stereo cabs are really really game changing, try them out. (Put anything before the amp as a mono block because that won't affect the stereo blocks later in the chain.)
One thing to look out for is on the amp settings... There are just a couple settings that add unnecessary noise. It is called hum and ripple? You'll thank me if you haven't found them yet.
The "BrownGD" is an EVH inspired Preset that's loads of fun to play. Also, the built in Noise Gate works really well. It is accessible from the first Node in the signal chain.
Awesome video. Makes me feel better since I can’t afford real too bands to hear you play the same modelers that I have similar situation using an FRFR speaker. Though the microphone is picking up a lot of ring noise, I can hear the absolute brilliance of your plane, and also how the mob sounds. Sounds real to me and I really really like you and I missed you on the Egerton’s videos.
Lovely stuff. Always encouraging to see someone as hamfisted with the buttons as me 💜 Hope you are finding lots of new ways to enjoy your guitars, and I'm looking forward to the next video.
I’ve yet to try a Chapman but they look BEAUTIFUL! Been watching you for many years and following the brand, can’t wait for the day I can get my paws on one! Thank you for the entertainment and knowledge through the years, appreciate every minute of it, helped me figure out what direction I want to go with my music, feel, and tone.
Thank you for all of your work over the years! You’re an inspiration. When money frees up I’m looking forward to getting an ML3 traditional or DPT. Haven’t made up my mind yet. lol!
Welcome to the dark side!😂 Sounds amazing, dude!🔥 Today is exactly a week since my dad sadly passed away, only 68 years old💔 I really needed this laugh. Thank you, Rob!
Sahana makes some really beautiful guitars and this one is no exception! Good luck with the Helix, Rob, it seems you found your footing just in time :-)
Rob! Have you maybe considered checking out the Tech 21 Flyrig stuff? I think you'd probably like the Richie Kotzen signature, but the have the Flyrig series, the Character plus series, even the PSA 2.0. Each of the Tech 21 things i have i think sounds absolutely amazing when going DI/FOH
Nice one! That Octave Fuzz sounds Class! 👌 HX Stomp XL has been my Entire GIGRig for over a year now. I don't even use snapshots, just stomp mode (like a pedal board - but have like 4 "virtual" pedal boards 🤓👍) I also don't even bother with stereo, I just use the mono L out. And... it all fits in my gigbag 💃
I have the Tonex and still prefer my Helix. Does the Tonex sound better ? Not enough to switch in my opinion, and putting it in the loop defeats the purpose of carrying one peice of gear. It's amazing to my how good the Helix still is and how it STILL stacks up against the best out there. Fantastic peice if gear. There's a reason so many of us use them
I think that it would serve you well to record the guitar tones directly to the interface. We are getting a lot of room in the video. But it is always nice to see you post.
I’m giving this a try, and I hope You know I been with You and Lee from day one. I was wondering If I could have one a helix or maybe borrow. Be happy with Hotone Ampero. I can’t even afford A VHT special ultra six and a Crate V 5
I think the stomp is amazing! I went from full helix to HX stomp with pedals and I think the combo is MINT. Rob when you get the chance start mixing and matching for a fun hybrid board!
I have this eventually after trying Kemper and large Helix LT etc. But the difference is I have a Tonex pedal in the effects loop. AMP and CAB comes from that. Now I have better tone and a bit more cpu power on helix. ++ for the d&d reference
It's interesting to me that you chose the "Brit 2204" over the newly introduced and more authentic JCM 800 called "Brit 2203" introduced in the newest Firmware update (>= v3.70) I would love to see how you configure your switches for live gigs. I personally tried to use only one preset and have 4 Snapshots on the switches serving for Clean, Crunch, Rhythm, and Solo. The remaining 2 Switches I use as Stomp-Mode for Chorus and Delay. I dont like, that I can not use or change the "Mode" switch 😅
I have had the stomp for years and keep trying to use it direct live and I want to like it but I keep going back to a tube amp the next gig. After this I’ll try again lol
I passed on a half price used Helix floor the other day here in NZ. Mint, but I expect the new gen will arrive soon, which tends to make the used value of L6 stuff plummet. That Helix sold fast though. I prefer putting my money into guitar stuff that holds its used value. Good guitars and amps. Stuff that will be worth something when my bucket day arrives and the nephew gets it all. I have a nice Plexi clone amp that's pretty much a replica due to the vintage parts the builder used like mustard caps. I have a Freyette Power Station for it. That's a great unit. So useful. But I do not use that set up much. Mostly I use my Friedman IR-X. So easy to get a good tone. I saved a little money and keep trawling the used market here in NZ. But I am not sure I actually need anything. I am all out of 'GAS'. That has not happened to me before. I feel kind of lost lol.
Just a idea but I just got a Friedman IRX to put in the loop of my helix and it's phenomenal. Yes it's another pedal...but if you really need that tube feel under the fingers it's incredible. Has a clean channel that is actually good 👍🏻 too. Would be a perfect mate to any HX stomp 🔥💯
Hello rob.i need a great guitar for my country music.. what would you play? I mean I want a good one.. I live and work and was born in Nashville so what would you pick for me?
Rob you could simplify it even more without a need for pressing the mode button all the time. Simply set bottom raw buttons (V A and B) for presets and the top row (^ C and D) for pedals. It looks to me that's all you'll need.
Don’t get all this modern digital gear.I have played guitar for 35years but stopped playing about 20 years ago and have recently taken it back up.I still play with a peavey bandit.Maybe a video on how you plug all the components in and connect it to a computer monitor might be a good shout.Keep up the good content mate.
Love my HXstomp its so easy and great tones. I noticed you have your delay AFTER your reverb, found that odd, but i guess whatever works for you. I will have to try that as I have always had my delay before reverb. Anyone else do it this way? (reverb then delay)
I been this path. If I where you, I wouldn't rule out the dsm so fast. Pair it with some mini TS, chorus, delay… and you still have a compact form factor with all the nobs visible and clear. For me, the situation where its all dark and noisy in the middle of a everything and I need to figure out why the damn thing not doing what it should, I don't have 10 minutes to figure out what menu setting I need to Dail in…. I want nubs for every thing. But that just me :)
@@anthonybags2626 So you can put your drive effects in front of the tonex and your reverbs/delays/etc after the tonex. You treat it like an amp block in the FX loop.
Sorry, analog amp and pedal board guy. What purpose, in this set up, would the tone x serve? Better IR’s than the stomp? OR, use the Tone X for amp and cab sim, and the helix stuff for effects, gain staging etc?
@@bleeknoirYep, the Tonex is like a $179 upgrade to the amp models. You can use the Helix amp models or a whole new world of infinite tone captures for the tonex. You can even run dual amps with this setup with one being HX and the other the tonex and you won't run out of DSP. Plus you pair it up with all the Helix effects. It's fantastic.
Rob is one hell of a guitar player!!! Amongst all the fun stuff he does that can sometimes get forgotten.
It’s amazing how that just sounds like Rob Chapman.

Welcome back Rob.
Thanks Rob 🤘🏽
HX Stomp XL for the win!!! Its a great little unit.
Great to have you back.
I honestly think you have a great 80's metal shred/blues rock tone. Always impressed when you do that stuff.
Love the helix stuff, really has come leaps and bounds but like you I’ll never stop using my valve amp
Your Presets sounds amazing! I love it and what your fingers gave us on our ears! Thank you for that Rob! Would be very happy if you share your presets with us one day! Good luck for the common shows and have fun on stage

Does it work well with pedals?

Will these patches be made available to the public? If so ,how would we access them? Thanks for the video.
I have no idea, I only picked up the unit yesterday. I don’t even know how to do that LOL.
Check out the paint audio Midi Captain to get the ultimate fly rig out of the Stomp.
Rob, please record your helix direct to logic. We can't hear the tone properly when it's just from the camera mic.
This has nearly tempted me to buy a chapman 7 string from andertons somehow haha!

@RobChappers Thanks Rob . You're a star 🌟

why not kemper? you liked the tone in many blindfold challenges
When you turn it up to stage volume , do you need to re eq it. Volume seems to change the eq with them.
Can you check out the HX Stomp, with cab sims / IRs off, into the power amp in of the Katana?

You could use your quad cortex or maybe use a Friedman irx/d. Or even combine them
I don’t own a Quad Cortex or the Friedman
fancy sharing a link to the patches ?
If you want your sound to be stereo, all the blocks after the cab have to be stereo, otherwise it gets automatically summed to mono.
