This was my first OSU game in 1982, and for me is a classic. 10 point underdogs win the game by 10... I was a freshman in college (although not at OSU) and had an absolute blast that entire weekend celebrating with my friends who were students there. Watching the goalpost come down and exit the stadium...what a fine day.
Ohio State was a 10 point underdog against Michigan on the road in 81.Bucks won that one too. If 82 was an upset it was a mild one.Ohio State took a 5 game win streak into this game
@@nathaniellathy6559 Mild? Maybe. I remember watching the goalposts leave the stadium and I ended up having a great time on high street that evening. OSU was a great experience for a kid going to a small private college, especially for "the game" and for my first B1G/OSU game also.
@@markgriffin3442 too bad it was one of 6 straight 9-3 seasons
I remember the team coming out to the field jumping on each other. Wish they would still do that. I always thought it was so cool.
I used to see Vaughn Broadnax in the campus Buffalo Wild Wings putting away a 50 count tray of chicken wings with a couple pitchers of iced tea ... the dude was a BEAST!!
60 wings and tall draft beers for me. Habanero sauce & bleu cheese
Man these was truly the days .....in retrospect those truly were the greatest days and people were so different it was so authentic and REAL...WOW what a moment in time
Buckeye Nation: Whenever you make your little 'best Buckeyes' lists, STOP OMITTING MARCUS MAREK!
Tim Spencer is another chronic omission.
Also John Hicks .
All-time leading tackler.
I was 11 when this game was played. I remember just despising Anthony Carter, though he was such a great wide receiver for UM.
The field was essentially hosed-down concrete. Their bodies must have taken such a beating back then.
As a kid I was able to get down on the field after the spring games and yeah, that old turf was like playing on asphalt just with a really thin green carpet put over it. I was also able to meet the players in the locker room after actual games. All the linemen had horrible scarring on their knuckles. They should have kept real grass!!!
Yep....we played pickup games on the field in the mid 80’s and can vouch for how hard it was.
LOL i have always thought that too. Checkout my youtube channel BUCKEYE VINNIE, please watch my videos and sub to my channel thanks.
Unconscionable. Subjecting people to that. And playing pickup games on it.......well the rocks in the head are bigger than the ones under the green carpet.
Graduated March of 82'. We used to play on the field and it was hard as a rock!
What a great video to watch on thanksgiving day with THE GAME two days away. This team with Tomczak, Tim Spencer and the rest is when I really started getting into football and the Buckeyes. GO BUCKS!!!
I went to Ohio State Football camp summer of 83. They were fixing the field in August....possibly going to grass, I don't remember. We practiced against Jim Tressels QBS, I was with the D backs. Earle Bruce was my head coach and Dom Capers was my defensive back coach. Pete Carrol left the year before. I met Archie Griffin running on one of the practice fields. Best week ever!
Nick Saban had been there a year or two prior also.
You were with some buckey royalty there my man😎👊🏼
Wow ❤️ : archie griffin my hero
Strange to see this game on CBS. I've grown so used to it being on ABC
ABC had Keith Jackson; I think he t❤ SEC;;; Pac ten football better than big ten::;
I went to Ohio State at the time. They used to talk about Doug Flutie being short. I used to see Mike Tomczak around campus. He could not have been more than 5'9".
'82 was the first season I followed the Bucks from start to finish. It seemed almost hopeless after losing three in a row in the 'shoe (Tomczak was even benched for the Wisconsin game), but then the Bucks played as well as any team in the country the rest of the way. This one wasn't overly pretty, but what better way to cap off the regular season.
Seems weird seeing the Bucks or any other Big Ten team on CBS after so many years on ABC or ESPN!
There was some serious hitting going on in this game
And the RB's were dishin out some too . Both OSU backs were bustin thru and over guys .
It's so strange to see how small the southern stands are.
Back then they were temporary stands. They took them down at the end of the season.
I982, it was a very good year. My last year at OSU. John Frank and Scott Zalenski were in some of my classes. They talk about Doug Flutie being short. Tomczak couldn't have been over 5'10".
and he was way ahead of his time from a "taking care of one's body" perspective. The man was on an NFL roster in 2000, and even started several games in 1999.
He used to drive one of my housemates back to Illinois sometimes. He was at least 6'.
I grew up in Cbus as a big fan of the Bucks starting in the '60s. I remember watching this game from the west coast (9 am kickoff - yuck) where I was stationed in the military, and it making me homesick but also glad I wasn't back there in that dreary, damp late November Midwest weather. After winning this game the team was invited to the Holiday Bowl. It was strange seeing so many OSU gear-wearing fans around town starting the week before that game.
Thanks for posting!! I remember this game like it was yesterday!! I lived in Colorado Springs then and the game came on @ 10:00 am. That logo @ midfield was really bad. Who's idea was that anyway?
@pronkb000
Admittedly I'm nostalgic for this time period, but I always loved that midfield logo, and the track never bothered me either. Besides, it isn't like the Bucks were alone in the Big Ten playing on carpet at this time.
I may be biased against them, but check out the '79 and '81 games against the team up north for some really bad looking AstroTurf....it appeared to be getting VERY worn out by that time.
6:36 Best block by a quarterback EVER
I seen that....
How in the world did a team with that much talent lose 3 games in a row? They put a 30 point hurting on Steve Young's BYU team in the bowl game.
"Old Nine and Three Earl" had a maddening tendency to lose to teams he had no business losing to, like Wisconsin, Indiana, Purdue, and Illinois, and it ended up costing him his job. The blowout loss at home to Indiana in '87 during a 6-4-1 season was downright embarrassing.
That midfield logo looks like someone's bad imitation of an UNO card. Thank goodness better turf has arrived. 😀
+Chris Barat Yes, it does look like an UNO card. The midfield was just silly, although it would have been no matter what. I think a script Ohio (like the band formation) would be cool in the middle.
For those who aren't old enough to remember, did you notice that beautiful track around the football field? Jesse Owens ran on that. In 1999, OSU decided that history wasn't important. The track is gone now.
😆
Marcus Marek == the Michigan Drive Stopper - STILL the all time leading tackler at OSU!
Weird seeing astro turf at both stadiums back in the day now
I just don't understand all the fumbles. Playing on painted concrete in the rain, who could have guessed?
This was my first ohio state Michigan game . I bought a ticket from scalper for 20 bucks. Seat right at mid field.
Lucky: horseshoe stadium
I was four months old when this win took place....but I knew then that anytime michigan lost...it was a good thing!
Also: MARCUS MAREK!
flanz45 Bro that’s who I’m named after 😂
Ohio State didn't play Iowa in 1982. However, Michigan played everyone in the Big Ten. Remember this was when the name Big Ten actually meant ten schools.
Earl Bruce never got his due 5-4 against Mich the buckeyes teams were average that why his firing following the 87 season ..
What did Spencer rush for in this game.
Michigan ❤ex Ohio state football coach earl Bruce punching 🎒 bag
@@lloydkline1518 Ohio St loves Harbaugh bahaha

Said Carter had 33 TDs and the record was Elmo Wright with 34. Impress me with who that dude played for in the Pros and what he was famous for.
at first i thought omg look at all the ichigan fans mixed in with the buckeyes then i realize RAIN COATS! whew
Great post as always! You made my morning. Keep 'em rollin!!
Tim Spencer was special. Then his son Evan throws the iconic touchdown bs Alabama in the 2015 semi final
What a big coup for CBS in its first year back televising regular-season college football to get this game. BTW, this was the first time ever that *"THE GAME"* was not televised on ABC to my knowledge.
That's how you do it, Buckeyes ... O-H!
My god! What is that they are playing on!?! It looks like somebody rolled out a rubber mat...
I know terrible. GO BUCKS !!! Checkout my youtube channel BUCKEYE VINNIE, please watch my vids and sub to my channel thanks.
Rubber would have been an improvement .
South stands front row. Two A-7 Corsairs flying low due to the cloud cover and rain buzzed the beejeebers out of Ohio Stadium. We we went apeshit from that point forward in what seemed like a constant downpour. All I gotta say is Tim Spencer and Vaughn Broadnax, Mike Tomczak Marcus Marek and a wild dog defense carried this team on all day. Oh and the two jet pilots from the Ohio Air National Guard were reprimanded😂😂
The good old 121st TFW out of Rickenbacker
@@TS-ef2gv yep. Flying their Super SLUFs with the hammer down!
Which Tatum was Buckeyes #32? I watched Jack in 1969, not 1982!!!
I was there…my senior year.
When they zoom in it looks like they're playing on a green parking lot
😅Diane Norton mom,

Yay, Buckeyes!

i was six.
this was my first osu game i watched on tv
GO BUCKS!
Alabama Fan and Graduate here. ( Class of 89 ). As much as I love the Tide, I swear I would like nothing more for Michigan and Ohio St. to get back to the top. I know OSU10 is there, but CFB needs Michigan to get back up there as well. We, ( CFB Fans ), need that Ohio St. / Michigan rivalry back again. We need both teams to be NC contenders again where 1 team is knocking the other out of the National Title hunt.
..I love Alabama, but agree this constant Alabama vs. Clemson matchup is not good for football.
Fuck Alabama
You've gotten your wish . Temporarily anyway .
My very first Michigan game as a freshman Buckeye!
Really, earl Bruce very underrated Ohio state coach woody hayes students
Loved fans tossing tp and tearing down goalpost with 5 seconds left @13:38
My Buckeyes!
Hello there! We work with Ohio State's homecoming committee and would love to include this footage in our homecoming promo video; please message back so we can discuss the possibilities of this! Thanks so much!
You probably need to contact the Eleven Warriors website, I don't think this is an active account anymore.
I vividly remember this game. I had a female classmate in junior high who was related to #15 of Michigan. Just remember that Broadnax kept pounding him all day blocking down field. Also, defensive back Doug Hill #27, his mom was my grandmothers round the clock, in home nurse down in Miami.
I was 11 rooting for the BUCKEYES from Puerto Rico!!
Why does this game always start at 11:00 am CST? Will they ever play at night?
they did one year
Some say it's too cold in November to play at night
@Nathaniel Lathy November football;; remember when Ohio state vs Michigan before Thanksgiving day holiday
Ohio State scored its first TD against Michigan in Ohio Stadium since 72 in this game.Michigan won Big Ten title by one half game. Too bad Buckeyes didn't play in Rose Bowl. They could have won since they already had 3 losses. Ohio State usually didn't lose more than 3 games in 80s. 😆🤔😂🤷🤣😹
A.C. my dude! Go Blue!
❤Anthon Carter
Norm Burrows > Anthony Carter
@davidpeck3912 no way: Anthony Carter help win a rose bowl 1981
Don't forget that the Miss-again queenball team is putting its fate in the hands of an OHIO man right now!!
How'd that work out for you beating OSU?
Ugh, another lose to the damn Buckeyes!
2019 Michigan beat Ohio state in football
@@lloydkline3265 Not likely
@@davidvondusseldorf1208 ohio state football team 2019, bleed red blood like every body else, they not invincible, local Michigan sports experts tell me it still will be very hard for Michigan to beat Ohio state it in Ann arbor , Michigan

Physical!! GO BUCKEYES!...
Can't believe the fans rushed the field with 5 seconds left. Idiots. Anyway GO BUCKS.
I was at that game and when that happened, I distinctly remember Pepper Johnson yelling at the students to get off the field.
Sometimes having the ability too watch football is just like having freedom for a Army veteran having access too healthcare at the Department of Veterans Affairs hospital in Spokane, Washington for my younger brother with the first name of Juan.
Let's hope the individuals watching this game aren't black like my sibling Juan who was almost body slammed by security officials while a member of the United States Congress watched with a smile on his face.
Michigan beats ohio state again
Bo schembecher ❤ earl bruce punching bag 🎒
Michigan used to own / slaughter Ohio state football 🏆/
Another mediocre Earle Bruce team
They finished good.Too bad it didn't carry over to the next season. 6, 9-3 seasons in a row.Yikes!
Bo schembecler put earl bruce into retirement/ nursing home 🏡 like did to woody Hayes
Bo schembecler kicked a hole in earl bruce butt
Hate to say it, but with the track, the AstroTurf, the consistently miserable weather, and that stupid midfield logo...'80s Ohio Stadium may have been the ugliest stadium of all-time.
