Tressel doesn't believe he needs to score on every drive, while dickrod believes every offensive possession should be a wide open, all out assault. The spread is very dynamic, but it is a high risk, high reward philosophy. When it's working, it's really working, and when it's off, shit just falls apart. Tressel would rather trust his solid defense, good field position, and clock management. But when things don't work out that way, he begins to stretch the field with vertical passes.
I heard that the 29-yard Saine TD was almost accidental and that a manager held up the wrong sign for blocking assignments. It ended up being an almost perfect "misdirection" play. So maybe if Rich Rod had been stealing signs, it might have been a TD anyway.

Michigan kept it close but the OSU defense was to good. As a UM fan I actually want to give RR more time, I like what he is starting to bring to the team. As for Pryor I think next year he will have inproved so much more and will be a good passer. I dont think he made a bigmistake by going to OSU over UM I think he could of been good ethier way.
Actually, what changed is Tressell has outcoached Lloyd Carr and Rich Rodriguez in every phase of the game, whereas Carr and Gary Moeller outcoached Cooper. Its not a talent issue. Up until 2008, Michigan had consistently better recruiting classes then the Buckeyes did under Tressell. We bring in more prep talent, but Tresell develops his players better and has better schemes and gets them to play disciplined football, especially agaimst Michigan. Tressell's coaching is the X-factor. JMO
Pryor is coming along as expected. He was brilliant in the Rose Bowl as a sophomore. You want to talk about not developing talent? What the hell was m@chigan doing with a talent like Chad Henne for four years?!? That guy was the exact same player from his freshman year until his senior year. Now, consider Ohio State who took a kid who was returning kicks and playing DB, and turned him into a Heisman winner at QB. That would be Troy Smith.
XxShwangBangxX, You should also consider that OSU's play calling would have been a lot different if Forcier had punched in a few of those red zone possessions for TD's. Tressel didn't feel like he had to open up our offense at all. He was able to get it done with ground and pound tactics that are as old as the game of football. Why take risks if u don't need to? If a team poses a legitimate scoring threat, Tressel will change gears and begin to attack. Go ask Oregon if u don't believe me.
If they arent pot plants what are they? And for the second time they are wolverines because the zoo.. They have wings because its an origanal helmet, used to easily see recivers down field.
Ohio State won their fourth BCS bowl with Heisman quarterfinalist AJ Hawk. Meanwhile, Michigan lost to Bill Callahan's Nebraska in the Credit Card Bowl in Texas.
I'm a Michigan fan and as much as I hated watching this game (because I was at it) I appreciate you actually showing our highlights and not just your team's. Hopefully this rivalry will get back on track too.
Tate played the exact same way in the Notre Dame game and the Ohio State game. In the come back win against ND, he scrambled around, improvised, and threw across his body on the run to hit second and third options in the pass progression. But when he did that shit in the Ohio State game, a superior defense made him pay. Passes he could complete against ND had no chance against the athletic, swarming style of D OSU played. That's why he threw all those interceptions.
Do you really think Tressel isn't trying to devellope Pryor into an NFL caliber quarterback? If Tressel wanted to be selfish, he would only let Pryor run option read and sprint option all day in order to utilize the kid's tremendous speed. But Tressel is trying to take a running QB and make him into a stand up, pocket passer who would fit in an NFL offense. There is definitely a learning curve that Pryor will have to overcome, but right now, it looks like he's coming along nicely.
A win is a win but once again we played WAY too soft in the secondary. I do give credit to the defense but if scUM had not kept shootong itself in the foot could the offense have kept up?
I know he isnt a bust, he just hasnt improved as much as Id liked him to have. He has talent and I hate that he is at a team that isnt trying to increase that talent to its full potential.
I hope Michigan becomes relevant in this rivalry again. I'm not a fan of either but this game is to college football like the Yankees-Red Sox are to baseball. College football is better overall when Michigan is a constant contender.
e.) In 1954, Ohio State was not the only undefeated team. UCLA was also undefeated, and is as deserving as Ohio State was. f.) In 1944, Ohio State was undefeated, but so was Army. Army was loaded during WWII, and also won the AP poll. Army outscored their opponents 504-35, including beating 8-2 Notre Dame 59-0. Ohio State struggled to beat 8-2 Michigan 18-14.
Well, yeah, Tressell hasn't developed EVERY recruit he's gotten into a star, likr you mentioned with Pryor (Jamario O Neal and Andre Amos also come to mind). But Tressell has developed players at a far better rate then carr and richrod have, and he's been a better coach on game day. hence the 6 straight wins and the 8-1 record he owns. Thats the point I was making
This game had to of been frustrating for both teams. Michigan had chances to get points on the board but didn't do it and OSU played WAY too conservative and probably could of burried us worse than an 11 point lead. I went to this game and I'd have to say this game on both sides just didn't have a lot of intensity in it.
Yeah, except for the fact Ohio States game plan is run the ball.. Either with Pryor or Saine. Running is running. And we dont have a scoring threat? Dude, we scored over 20 points per game in all but 2 games.
@jeremyraybrown True. BUT, as an ND fan we were ONE play away in ALL 6 close losses of going undefeated. You just can't say "if we didn't do this, or if we had only did that." Bottom line, my beloved ND wasn't as good/tough as some teams they lost too and UM wasnt as good as OSU, Iowa or MSU. I do agree they'll bowl this year, but probably 6 wins, 7 if everything goes right. Wiscy, Iowa, Psu and OSU are all losses, likely could be all blowouts. 5 guaranteed wins, and 3 toss ups (uconn, nd, msu)
Robinson had 502 yards at Notre Dame yet Michigan still nearly lost. Notre Dame got destroyed by Stanford, lost to MSU and got challenged by a Purdue team that lost to Toledo. My point is, Robinson's a good player, but he's played nobody but chumps. When he gets into Big Ten play, I'm sure he'll do fine, but he's not going to keep putting up tons of numbers. He is their QB and RB. That's going to take a toll - he's not as big and tough as a guy like Tebow who could do that.
okay.. you didnt say henne got no better. you didnt say pryor has gotten better. you didnt say our d line was bad.. i havent said a thing about the bcs games..
This game was epically frustrating. Our defense finally turns in a respectable performance to the point where we could be competitive and Tate Forcier forgets what color jersey his receivers are wearing.
we fought, but wasn't good enough. expect a even harder fought game next year as well as a much better season for the wolverines. if not, rodriguez is gone.
Woody Hayes is idolized by Buckeye fans, instead of shunned due to his violent nature which consists not only of hitting Clemson players, but assaults in other incidents. Jim Tressel is responsible for the Maldonado and Clarett situations, as well as Marco Cooper, Troy Smith and other Buckeyes receiving payments, yet Buckeye fans continue to apologize and ignore this behavior, even pretending that he runs a clean program.
I still do not see at all why Pryor is supposed to have some amazing season this year. I mean cmon, they're supposed to be this great offense this year and yet they didn't manage a damn thing against quite possibly the worst defense Michigan has fielded in 120 years of football. Same thing with why Alabama is ranked #1, they return one starter, two if you count Hightower on D and we're supposed to believe they'll be this phenomenal team this year.
And if you pay close attention Michigan didn't try to run the Football, Ohio State was trying to Pass the Football but Hardly got anything done through the air. Terrelle Pryor is couldn't throw the ball because the Young Ass Defense Stoped them.
Well, its true. Forcier was your best player this game. Im not making up thing, im telling you the statistics of the game. Your one who looks mainly at the score. If you take away our three interceptions in the red zone, or Denard Robinsons interception on a screen.. Itd be a whole new ball game. Anyways, grats on the win, now that we have some defensive talent coming in, get ready for a new streak.
Ohio State loves to claim many more national championships than they deserve: a.) In 2002, Ohio State's claim to a national championship depends on a questionable interference penalty required to beat Miami, b.) In 1968, Ohio State was not the only undefeated team. An undefeated Penn State, featuring Hall of Famers Franco Harris and Jack Ham, has as much a claim as Ohio State does.
michigan can hang with anyone and it really frustrates me cuz they can move the ball great and then start turning it over and just shut down, i see a possibility of mcihigan winning this game next year
Yeah, Chad Henne. The same guy who was good enough to beat that awesome Florida team in the Captial One Bowl. The same Chad Henne who is good enough to play in the N.F.L. Don't give me that shit--Chad Henne should have been an outstanding player at m@chigan. They just didn't develope him. And Troy smith is a damn good quarterback. He gets paid big money as a back up in the NFL. Not bad for an inner city kid who was returning kicks on the practice squad when his college career began.
That's why big blue is always dangerous. When they're having an off year, they could salvage the ship just by beating us. Of course, the opposite is also true. That's why I was perplexed that year when John Cooper elected to kick the extra point, instead of going for 2 and the win. Our season was lost anyway. We had a chance to salvage our season, and to ruin m@chigan's. But, he wanted the tie. He just didn't understand the rivalry, even after all those years.
But after 6 months of review, which wouldnt change a thing anyway, the call was made to be a holding. A 10 second late flag call, that was thrown as an pass interference was changed to a holding at the line on 6 months later.. The point is, the sideline judge didnt see the holding, or the pass interfernce. But the endzone judge did, 10 seconds after it happend.. Its not like it makes a difference. Ill be back next year when Michigan has beaten Ohio State.. Untill then. Later.
I don't speak for all Wolverines fans obviously, but I for one am in the "fire dickrod" camp. The 2008 and 2009 teams each had half its scholarship roster composed of blue chip recruits (41 in 2008, 40 in 2009), but we went 3-9 in 08 and 5-7 in 09. Dickrod screwed over our defense when he fired a fine coaching staff of Ron English, Vance Bedford, Steve Morrison, and Steve Stripling and replaced them with his idiot cronnies. Our defense doesn't lack talent. It lacks good coaching.
@cmoney7463 I agree with you. Most people don't look at how close games were against Iowa and Michigan State. They don't look at how Michigan really self destructed and shot themselves in the foot over and over again. They have the talent to make it happen this coming season.
c.) In 1961, Ohio State for some reason thinks their team with a tie is better than undefeated Alabama. Alabama was the AP's choice. d.) In 1957, one-loss Ohio State for some reason thinks their team is better than undefeated Auburn, the AP's selection.
Forcier isn't a bad quarterback. I think you're right --with a year of experience under his belt, he is going to make better decisions and protect the ball. Everybody knew that there would be a learning curve when Rodriguez went to Ann Arbor and installed the spread offense. But I thought u of m's defense would be stout enough to take a lot of the pressure off of the offense. The D really wasn't as athletic as I thought it would be. That's what surprised me the most.
Exactly, but if Michigan wasn't good enough it wouldnt be as big as it is either.. It takes two teams to have a rivalry. And Osu Michigan is the biggest.. I could care less if we lost to every d3 team in the nation but beat Osu id be happy.
They got two wolverines from a zoo. But they were too mean to keep at the game. Okay, you think a buckeye is good or something? Contrary to popular belief, they aren't even poisonous. Plus you think its cool to put pot plants on your helmets? Whats a pot plant have to do with a buckeye? Nice one. And how do you figure I play wow? Were 19-20 in bowls, Youre 19-22.. Before 2008 we were on a 40 year winning season. When we lost, the rebuilding began.
@DevilDogSGT07 OK... So what could OSU's defense do in order for you to consider them good? Pick off the same pass twice? Do the Tyler Sash latteral? I mean... they made all the plays in that game yet somehow they deserve zero credit for anything. Your argument is that OSU's defense wasn't challenged at all in that game therefore their defense deserves zero credit. Michigan's defense was challenged and they had some good stops, therefore Michigan's defense was better. That's dumb.....
I don't think UM will beat OSU this yr. At "the shoe," it will likely be a blowout. This is one of the better teams JT has EVER had (on both sides of the ball). UM has as bad a defense as there is in the big ten, and their secondary will be one of the worst in the conf. (no depth what so ever). That being said, I DO think UM will go bowling. They have 5 wins and 4 losses (Wiscy/Iowa/PSU/OSU-likely all 4 could be blowouts) and 3 "toss ups" (uconn, nd, msu). 6 wins, MAYBE 7 & a mediocre bowl game
There is a way to zoom in a youtube video, you add "yt:crop=16:9" to the tags. What did you record the broadcast to? The key is to record it in an anamorphic widescreen instead of a letterbox.
@XxShwangBangxX How did we outsmart u? Look back at the close games OSU won since Tressel arrived. We won those games not because we were more talented, but because OSU out schemed big blue. And against dickrod, Tressel really doesn't have to think at all. He knows the guy is going to take a lot of chances, so he tells the D to give up underneath passes, make the open field tackle, and make the picks when the ball comes your way. Then he lets our offense grind down the clock. Simple.
Its not like you can stop me from replying. How are you 8-1? You say all my things are opinions about Ohio state, when all yours are opinions about Michigan..? Michigan doesnt suck.
Dude, go back and watch the entire 2002-03 title game before u talk shit about that interference call. OSU got interference calls against them that were far less flagrant that that. That Miami team was a 14 point favorite-they had Mcgahee, Winslow, Dorsey, and Sean Taylor, but they had never played against a team as cohesive as the 2002 Buckeyes. The entire BIG 10 kicked ass that year. Since then OSU has been trying to carry the flag for the conference. When u gonna step up, big blue?
How excatly is he kicking my ass? When were not competing in anything. Im just trying to prove some points, that people are letting go completly over there head. All anyone ever looks at is at the score, which I guess is important, But im trying to get it through that Michigan isnt as bad as everyone is making them out to be.
LMMFAO. Out recruiting?! We had 9 more recruits then you this year. We both had 1 5 star. Ohio State had nine four stars and we had 8. But we have 17 3 star recruits. Your best recruit was an OT who just signed.. Today actually. While our 5 star is a dual threat quarterback in Devin Gardner. And Demar dorsey should be a 5 star, since he is the second S in the nation.
Thats all true. And in addition to what you said, there's the fact that opposing defense had figured Forcier out by the time Michigan clashed with the Buckeyes. Forciers inexperience was bound to catch up with him at some point, and it did, especially against Ohio State. As a Wolverine fan, I hope a season of starting experience will allow Forcier to have better field awareness and to not make the stupid mistakes he made last season in the 21-10 loss.
@HouseMD56 everybody said that last year what happen we beat the fuck out of oregon. why lose to a boise state team? why you only beat cal by 2 points? theres a lot of questioning about oregon offense
The thing that changed The Ohio State/m@chigan rivalry more than anything is Jim Tressel's ability to keep the best Ohio high school football players in the state of Ohio. John Cooper focused too much on out of state talent, and u of m came down here and took our best talent. Think about it. U of m has 3 Heisman winners. Tom Harmon, from Indiana, Charles Woodson from Fremont, Ohio, and Desmond Howard from Cleveland, Ohio.
@Hawkeyesownyou1 Yeah, Michigan gave Ohio State this one. They also gave Iowa the game earlier in the season. Michigan should of been at least 7-5. 2/3 of the team was freshman and sophomore. I think they can be a 7 or 8 win team this season but that schedule is real tough. They need 2 more years, just a fact.
Tressel doesn't believe he needs to score on every drive, while dickrod believes every offensive possession should be a wide open, all out assault. The spread is very dynamic, but it is a high risk, high reward philosophy. When it's working, it's really working, and when it's off, shit just falls apart. Dude, teams dont vote themselves champions!! LOL If an accredited voting organization voted OSU National Champion, OSU claims it. Why wouldnt they?
thanks for putting in highlights from both teams
Not a good day when most of the clips are interceptions
1997 OSU vs Michigan
I answerd why they are called the wolverines.. Because the zoo donated two wolverines too the school. And what did I make up? Nothing.
I was referring to the half century of names and dates you spewed out earlier. I'm sure u just walk around with all that info in your head.
What opinion?
Oh we fail? We have 11 national championships and are most winningest team in college football. But we fail.?
Yea!! We own Michigan!
@gameday200 no offense, but we beat nd 34-20 in '06 Fiesta.
There is a way to zoom in a youtube video, you add "yt:crop=16:9" to the tags.
What did you record the broadcast to? The key is to record it in an anamorphic widescreen instead of a letterbox.
Im an ohio state fan but I will always respect michigan because they beat tim tebow when we couldn't
Forcier had more interceptions than completions.
@XxShwangBangxX
How did we outsmart u? Look back at the close games OSU won since Tressel arrived. We won those games not because we were more talented, but because OSU out schemed big blue.
And against dickrod, Tressel really doesn't have to think at all. He knows the guy is going to take a lot of chances, so he tells the D to give up underneath passes, make the open field tackle, and make the picks when the ball comes your way. Then he lets our offense grind down the clock. Simple.
Haha, we really havent done much. I guess our loss to app state let div 3 schools get ranked in the top 25 now.. But other then that, thats about it.
i miss tate forcier. you could always count on him to fuck up in critical moments
@ourhonordefend hey man is there a chance you could perhaps make a video for the rose bowl, sugar bowl, or 2002 title game?
Its not like you can stop me from replying. How are you 8-1? You say all my things are opinions about Ohio state, when all yours are opinions about Michigan..? Michigan doesnt suck.
@bas313 Hmmmm..... Ohio State went 11-2 and won the Fiesta Bowl in 2005.
Dude,
go back and watch the entire 2002-03 title game before u talk shit about that interference call.
Rich Rod is the best thing to ever happen to the Ohio State Buckeyes!
@bucksrule81 Ya, the ones in 2005 and 2003.
Brand-Insane, or Brandon Saine. take your pick.
@DevilDogSGT07 hahahah funny.. did u not see the 17 interceptions we had? OSu's defense played sooooo much better than michigans
What's missing at the end of this clip is Musberger's..."You are looking LIVE at the Horseshoe in Columbus, Ohio!"...what a game. Unforgettable.
@HouseMD56 everybody said that last year what happen we beat the fuck out of oregon. why lose to a boise state team? why you only beat cal by 2 points? theres a lot of questioning about oregon offense
Forcier was true to that name
Go Bucks!
@AIVIP3DxX Don't want respect, only fear.
Rich Rod nd the University of Michigan: PROPERTY OF JIM TRESSEL
GO BUCKS BABY WOOO!!
wow! 21,000 views. but not TOO surprising. it's so GREAT to see the Buckeyes DESTROY That School Up North! GO BUCKS!
The funny thing about 2007 and 2009 games at that ttun is it was pretty much home games for the Buckeyes!
Lol it never panned out for yah
Jake Ballard is from Springboro not Springfield
