No auto tune and he was recovering from probably Flu. A true artist, his dad was a cantor and David probably picking up singing from his father. Your reaction great and thank you, I enjoyed watching. ❤️ From uk.
There was some auto tuning added in post production despite him asking for them not to use it. He was upset about it when he found out after, but it was the show (Conan) that decided to do it because they knew he was sick. It was BARELY used however, but you can hear it in some areas (His vocal fry can sound "auto-tuney" sometimes but it's not). He himself never uses auto-tune for his performances, but the decision was out of his hands this time.
He has an amazing voice and he sounds the same in concert as he does on the albums. If you get a chance to see Disturbed take it, you'll be blown away by them.
As of the time of this comment, the original Disturbed - Sounds of Silence video has 807,665,195 views and the Conan video has 130 million views. Adding in all the reaction videos, I'm guessing nearly 1 billion views by now. Amazing! Binging reactions to this masterpiece by Disturbed and wanted to say I loved your expression and honest excitement as the song ramped up to the crescendo...can't help but smile at your smile! I'm not able to pickup auto-tune but I've seen other reviewers question that as well. Some have commented in other reaction videos there was auto-tune applied to certain notes as David was suffering from a flu at the time of the performance (or something along that line) so perhaps they did that to even out or strengthen some notes. I also read that David said no to auto-tune before the performance, preferring to take his chances on his voice and was not at all pleased when he listened to the recording post performance. But really, in the end, does it really even matter if it was used or not? I don't get the hype around this tbh.
He sang as a Cantor with his father in a synagogue in Brooklyn, where he grew up. ‘Disturbed’ is now based in Chicago. The singer is David Draiman. What’s most remarkable about this-he was SICK during this performance. He had the flu and was running a fever. Apparently, Paul Simon (who wrote this in 1964) saw this performance on ‘Conan’ that night and called Draiman to say it was one of the best covers he’d ever heard of his masterpiece. Draiman was (understandably) stunned!
performance was awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! his voice both beautiful and haunting.....the piano gave chills to the soul and the bass drum pounding out those 2 strikes was haunting.......finally the orchestra was perect for fulfilling the rest of the song
Many times I heard this live and it's always epic. Of course Simon and Garfunkel are the original but it's the best cover to date. Ever. Also never autotune either. That's his real voice.
Had he been born in another era he would have been a star in the opera. He loves the dramatics of performing and takes great pride in his vocal talents.
I enjoy your videos, Lucia ... I thought you might like to know a bit more about Disturbed's singer David Draiman. He grew up in Chicago in an Orthodox Jewish family and had training as a Haz(z)an - Cantor - one who sings the Jewish religious service. So trained, Yes, but not Operatic... He also had to have surgery for a chronic acid reflux condition where a problem causes stomach acid to 'bath'e the lower esophagus - which may have effected his singing apparatus.. I didn't know anything about Disturbed until I saw the Official video of this song - amazing emotional video... I love his voice and the emotion he can convey. He says he did rebel and have anger and angst due to a very restricted childhood which could come out in the type of music his band chose to make... Be well - if you have trouble with comment trolls, you might find someone to act as a moderator who can weed out the worst - your positive commenters don't need exposure to their poison, either.
Loved your reaction to this! This is the best cover of this song... ever, in my opinion. Another "best cover ever" that I would love for you to react to, is Hailey Reinhart's version of "Creep" with Postmodern Jukebox. It's fantabulous!!
I really enjoyed your reaction and analysis ... Excellent ........ David Draiman's voice is epic. Regarding the lyrics, Simon and Garfunkel's version was a warning. The Disturbed version is furious because the warning was ignored.
David’s voice is otherworldly, both angelic and dark. Fully embracing the existence on earth in such a beautiful and poetic way. The arrangement is perfection. This whole performance is cathartic and leaves you emotionally spent, but full of hope.
David draymin is the lead singer of Disturbed. He is classical trained and can sing Opera with the best of them. He has a vocal range that is other worldly and loves performing. This song was originally sung by Simon and Garfunkel in the mid sixties. After Paul Simon heard this version he sent an email to David and said it was his song now. Ultimate compliment from the original singer, song writer.
Lucia, your non verbal reactions to his style of vocals shows you truly enjoyed Damians performance! Your critiques were spot on! I applaud you for your authenticity and emotional responses!
Great reaction Dear. He has a wonderful voice and I love it when he uses his vocal fry - very gravelly. I think the timps add so much to this performance too= they give more body. Looking to your next reaction.
Hi Ms. Lucia, are you now okay?? The last time you posted an update, you were very sad. Continue to be beautiful inside and out. Do not let others and negative vibes outshine your humble heart. God bless you.
😍 yes I was sad yesterday and disappointed about reality in Life about people's behavior in Italy.. 😅 It hurts but I am ok today. I appreciate your kind words will keep in mind that kindness is still in this world 💜
He is the lead singer in a hard metal band that is very good for heavy metal bands and very versed in his music studies but this was a special arrangement he did for this song and his voice and style does give this song a different feel but not the feel of the old version he did very much so present the words and thoughts of this song
It's blowing up, since all these reaction videos have been made. 623,617,938 views. Best cover one ever heard. So much emotion, and showed up randomly in my feed because of one of these reaction videos. Can't get enough.
Hello Lucia, i loved your reaction & analysis of this song, so descriptive. Although i live in New Zealand I too am Italian, Messina, Scicily, is where the family come from. By the way, you are a very beautiful lady if I may say so.
David has an incredible range. The Sound of Silence actually gave listeners the opportunity to focus on the quality of his voice by having the background music played softly. Because of the type of music his band normally plays his vocals are often drowned out by the bands loud background music. I would like to hear more songs where it focuses on his voice and the background music plays much more subtly in the background.
Disturbed makes a lot of angry music. Somewhat anarchistic. It is great music - all this educated anger is priceless. Disturbed also covered "Land of confusion" from "Genesis". All their songs have lyrics that scream in rightful blood-red anger. All of this rage is worth checking out.
I agree totally. Being from Italy, I'm pretty sure you don't follow much country music, but you won't be disappointed in either one. Chris Stapleton has an amazing voice and there is a lot of vocal gymnastics in both songs.
Couldn't have said it any better brother. Honestly, really can't with a hard Southern Tennessee accent lol. But Chris is awesome no matter what genre music listen too.
One of the most recognizable voices in heavy metal, David Draiman. His voice is epic. Even when he's screams. Give them a listen to. Either stricken or prayer I'd say. Disturbed are amazing!
Bellissima canzone dei Disturbed, ho sentito questa canzona anche in un concerto dal vivo e ti garantisco che non esiste nessun effetto del suono ma è proprio la sua voce, grande Band che ha alle spalle tantissime canzoni veramente belle!
Great reaction! I always love your videos. I found you through the Dimash videos and I love how you really analyze the video and add fun little commentary! :D Disturbed is mainly a metal rock band, although with their new album, Evolution, they've added some more rock songs and some slow ones. They are one of my favorite bands. As for the auto tune, this gets to be a heated topic and the answer may depend on who you talk to, but I'm sure that this performance has it (I'm not 100%). The lead singer, David Draiman (as far as I know) is against using it and never does in his live performances. I'm not sure he had a choice on this show (as I do not know how/when/if various TV shows may use auto tune, and I imagine its not unheard of to do so), and I heard rumor David wasn't happy about it. If you check out some live versions, he has good control/skill over his voice, so he doesn't need it. That's just what I think. Regardless, that doesn't take away from the amazing performance and his techniques/skills he shows when he sings. This is still one of my favorite videos of his song and I know Paul Simon approved of Disturb's cover as well. :D
I realize this has been posted for a while now but what a performer. For your interest when David sings, "Down with the sickness" the beat drop of "ooh-wah-ah-ah-ah" just came to him one day. Here is a copy paste of a paragraph that tells what also changed/helped his voice. “I used to have, and I still do have, really bad acid reflux,” Draiman, who was raised Jewish, told MTV in 2012. “I had a surgical procedure done…that repaired a valve at the top of my stomach that had completely burned away.” This, said Draiman, increased his range and strengthened his vocals. “That noise,” he said, just kinda came one day. [The] beat is so tribal it made me feel like an animal.” Pretty cool story.
I'd suggest a choice. If you want tons of views and to have your mind blown - Jinjer Pisces Live Session, definitely (th-cam.com/video/SQNtGoM3FVU/w-d-xo.html). But I'm betting you'll enjoy I Speak Astronomy a lot more, and a really good concert recording of it was just released which is great because Jinjer is much better in concert than in a studio: th-cam.com/video/4HW-ACeiUMI/w-d-xo.htmlm00s - it is part of their performance at Resurrection Fest in summer 2018 which the venue just released. (Unfortunately, there is an ad stuck right in the middle of the crescendo at the end. Unless you have premium, I'd suggest muting YT, going to the ad at about the middle of the video to get rid of it, then going back to the 14 minute mark where the song starts.)
Disturbed is primarily a metal rock band , this was a cover they did and is not typical of the music they normally produce. David Draimon , is the bands vocalist and usually sings with a raspy distortion to his voice , it's nice to hear him sing like this and use his power strategicly instead of just powering through. Something he doesn't often get to do with his bands normal style.
Please watch his video to see the symbolism he uses to illustrate this old classic by Simone and Garfunkel! This is a heavy metal band that puts this classic in 2 very superb classes! The first is a dreamed wish for our world to change--David made this a battle cry for the younger generation, "CHANGE THE WORLD OR DIE!"

I recommend finding any and all interviews with David, gives perfect context to how he speaks. Should end doubts in his performance
Nightwish - "ghost love score" live at wacken 2013 for sure!
Nightwish covering The Phantom of The Opera would be awesome!!
His remake~of another Artists message with such Grace! Awesome I have seen him in concert 10 times definitely a “Treat”
Definitely, need to do Ghost Love Score Live from Wacken 2013! Ann Waychoff would love it!
No auto tune and he was recovering from probably
Flu.
@@buttnugget2900 Thank you for telling me,
Live and learn 🤔😁👍
Disturbed is a heavy - rock\Metal band.... The lead is an classically trained Opera singer...
I can tell he have a huge talent but also well trained!!
cantorial ...not opera
He sang as a Cantor with his father in a synagogue in Brooklyn, where he grew up. ‘Disturbed’ is now based in Chicago. The singer is David Draiman. What’s most remarkable about this-he was SICK during this performance. He had the flu and was running a fever. Apparently, Paul Simon (who wrote this in 1964) saw this performance on ‘Conan’ that night and called Draiman to say it was one of the best covers he’d ever heard of his masterpiece. Draiman was (understandably) stunned!
Wow! Lucia is GORGEOUS!
performance was awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! his voice both beautiful and haunting.....the piano gave chills to the soul and the bass drum pounding out those 2 strikes was haunting.......finally the orchestra was perect for fulfilling the rest of the song
Either me never listen about it before 😱 now I am on the road to check more about this band.
Thank you for all the info 💜
Loved your reaction to this! This is the best cover of this song... ever, in my opinion. Another "best cover ever" that I would love for you to react to, is Hailey Reinhart's version of "Creep" with Postmodern Jukebox. It's fantabulous!!
I love that version 😍
I'm sure everyone would LOVE to see you react to the LIVE VERSION of Down With The Sickness from Rock am Ring EPIC.
I really enjoyed your reaction and analysis ... Excellent ........ David Draiman's voice is epic. Regarding the lyrics, Simon and Garfunkel's version was a warning.
The Disturbed version is furious because the warning was ignored.
GLad you find me!
Good review!
I love how your eyes are tracking AS you really listen!
Really listening is a marvelous gift!
David’s voice is otherworldly, both angelic and dark. Fully embracing the existence on earth in such a beautiful and poetic way. The arrangement is perfection. This whole performance is cathartic and leaves you emotionally spent, but full of hope.
Proving metal has some of the best vocalists in music.....they just love to rock!!!!
Funny how many of the vocal coaches, even the ones presumably classically trained react positively to the rasp/growl part.
It's because that is a very risky technique for your cords but he is performing in the right proper way, almost perfect.
@@JuanManuelCruzTorres also the fact he can switch it on and off with the snap of a finger
The rasp is beautiful and controlled completely...he is a brilliant singer
@@Salv its because he doesnt put it on his cords at all. David is a master in many ways when it comes to singing.
@@dalehammers9805 hes a trained Cantor. His grandfather was a Cantor for the Temple in Jerusalem I believe.
Damn girl! I'm a fan. love your DSLs
Please react to Nightwish Ghost Love Score live @ Wacken '13. You will be amazed!

@@LuciaSinatra listen to henk poort in beste zangers to sound of silence he killed it

Lucia, your non verbal reactions to his style of vocals shows you truly enjoyed Damians performance! Your critiques were spot on! I applaud you for your authenticity and emotional responses!
😍 thank you I Am honored when someone understand my feelling 🙏🏼
Not sure how much more goosbumps i can take watching these reaction videos to this Masterpiece sheesh
At 2:58 the look on her face shows her understanding of David’s range and ability. It almost looks like the realization of his greatness scared her.
The official video now has over 655 Million views.
David Draiman, lead singer for Disturbed, was classically trained.
Pure Draiman. Nothing more nothing less. Accept that some singers are pitch perfect. Not pointing a finger at anyone but haters going to hate.
Except this performance actually was auto-tuned. Against his wishes, but still auto-tuned. David absolutely does not need auto-tune... at all.
I love how you really get into it when he breaks into a fray.
Great reaction Dear. He has a wonderful voice and I love it when he uses his vocal fry - very gravelly. I think the timps add so much to this performance too= they give more body. Looking to your next reaction.
Soon!
I appreciate your kind words will keep in mind that kindness is still in this world 💜
Absolutely. Kindness is expensive but has no price tag. You are sensitive, that's why you are kind. You were born that way, keep it up:)
I’m willing to go out on a limb and say this is the best remake of a song ........ever ! Bar none.
Profoundly Beautiful!!! EPIC!!!!
No autotune! He is classically trained. His voice is that good.
He is Classically Trained
his voice tells the story in itself
He is the lead singer in a hard metal band that is very good for heavy metal bands and very versed in his music studies but this was a special arrangement he did for this song and his voice and style does give this song a different feel but not the feel of the old version he did very much so present the words and thoughts of this song
💜
It's blowing up, since all these reaction videos have been made. 623,617,938 views. Best cover one ever heard. So much emotion, and showed up randomly in my feed because of one of these reaction videos. Can't get enough.
Hello Lucia, i loved your reaction & analysis of this song, so descriptive. Although i live in New Zealand I too am Italian, Messina, Scicily, is where the family come from. By the way, you are a very beautiful lady if I may say so.
ciao my dear welcome hope y9u will follow my journey on the tube!!
The performance of this song you chose, David Draiman (lead vocals for Disturbed) was actually sick and still nailed it.
I am shook! I really enjoyed his voice.
David Draiman now I know the name 😉 I din't had time to do research till now!
The official video is amazing, 630 million views presently wow...

I saw a reaction view yesterday and the reactor pointed out that there were almost six hundred million views.
Finally!! Cool one!!! ☝️
😉
Ciao Lucia! Very nice, very Disturbing.
🤪🎙🤪
David has an incredible range. The Sound of Silence actually gave listeners the opportunity to focus on the quality of his voice by having the background music played softly. Because of the type of music his band normally plays his vocals are often drowned out by the bands loud background music. I would like to hear more songs where it focuses on his voice and the background music plays much more subtly in the background.
The best cover ever … very dramatic performance by David and Disturbed…
Had to go back to some of my favs of yours love you and yours be safe hope to see you preform somewhere I can do this in bass baritone voice
Very powerful. I can't stop listening to it.
I will, thank you!
And 10,000 fists
Would love to see you react to Chris Stapleton, Tennessee Whiskey or Sometimes I cry
Please don’t
Please react to older disturbed so you can know how much of a shock it is for that band to do something like that
It's really not a shock, people have different influences.
Have you listened to disturbed before this?
@@starseer1512 yes, I got their demo before the first album was released
Awesome! That makes 2 of us I was just caught off guard by this song because it’s more of a ballad than their usual songs
One of the most recognizable voices in heavy metal, David Draiman. His voice is epic. Even when he's screams. Give them a listen to. Either stricken or prayer I'd say. Disturbed are amazing!
That's all him, fantastic voice.
Bellissima canzone dei Disturbed, ho sentito questa canzona anche in un concerto dal vivo e ti garantisco che non esiste nessun effetto del suono ma è proprio la sua voce, grande Band che ha alle spalle tantissime canzoni veramente belle!
No, this is his voice. If you knew them youd know he has one of the most powerful voices out there. Disturbed is awesome
now I know 😉 was first time meet Disturbed!
Awesome reaction. 💞👍
💜
he's genuine.... you on the other hand....
No autotune needed he is a trained opera singer who found his way into metal
WOW seriously 0_0
the actual music video has over 340 million views xD SIMPLY AMAZING
Goosebupms by anytime!! Thats crazy!!
Great reaction! I always love your videos. I found you through the Dimash videos and I love how you really analyze the video and add fun little commentary! :D
Disturbed is mainly a metal rock band, although with their new album, Evolution, they've added some more rock songs and some slow ones.
Please react to Jinjer - Pisces (Live Session)
THIS!
Absolutely must do this! The "live session".
You gotta do it. You'll be surprised.
Anyone ready to see her jaw drop?
The name of the band is Disturbed.
Full band 🙈
Disturbed is primarily a metal rock band , this was a cover they did and is not typical of the music they normally produce. David Draimon , is the bands vocalist and usually sings with a raspy distortion to his voice , it's nice to hear him sing like this and use his power strategicly instead of just powering through. Something he doesn't often get to do with his bands normal style.
As of this date - December 23, 2022 - Disturbed's 'The Sound of Silence' - 865 MILLION views - it still gives me chills!
One of Disturbeds songs is indestructible and hail to the king and down with the sickness
Just saw your thumbnail scrolling my feed, and just wanted to compliment your beauty...and love your accent😊
