I was hoping for some kind of online help group. I literally watch these all the time. And when I run out, I just listen to the original over and over. I need help too.
Lol same, my girl is sick of it 🤣....I don't care though...I told her, it hits a different emotion each time. I love watching the ppl that never listen to this type of music or never heard of them.
I have a couple of mental health issues and suffer very bad anxiety. I listen to this 3 or 4 times in a row with my first morning cuppa (and several times through the day and evening) . To start with the softer deep part, then the raw power of his voice. He is sooooo much better then my antidepressants. He is a must for my day
Totally agree. I never got the "message" from the original Simon and Garfunkel version because their voices are so light, but it's so clear in this version.
I actually got to hear him live shortly after this song was released, so it was fresh. I was completely shocked that it sounded just like the studio version and how effortless it seemed to be for him. Not to mention the emotion that came from him during the performance. This was my favorite band before seeing him live and now... Not just the band holds a special place but him as a singer has commended my respect.
As a man in my 60s, I grew up listening to the original Simon and Garfunkel version but it was mainly their harmonies I liked and didn't understand the meaning of the lyrics until I heard Disturbed's version, both their studio recording and this live version, that I began to understand it's meaning and how much it relates to the current political and social climate here in the US. It's like Paul Simon was warning us, way back in 1964, that we were losing our ability to communicate with one another and Disturbed version is a more, rightfully, angry cry that we didn't listen and/or understand what Paul was telling us back then. I can honestly tell you that, this performance and the studio recorded version quickly became my all-time favorite song. This is coming from someone who had Nights In White Satin/Late Lament by the Moody Blues as their all-time favorite for most of his life.
Anyone else just absolutely love watching talented and educated singers watch amazing songs. Your passion is totally there and I adore it. Such a great cover, such a great reaction. And I actually learned a few things lol
David in my opinion is today one of the best male singer out there regardless his band he sings for. He has been classically trained and this song shows off all his training. Another singer you must review is Floor Jansen from Nightwish a song called Ghost Love Score live at Waken 2013. This women will blow your socks off
-Draiman covers roughly two-and-a-half octaves from bottom to top. His vocals are so distinctive. -Disturbed had been nominated for a GRAMMY for Best Rock Performance for their rendition of "The Sound of Silence" while appearing on Conan. -David: "The fact that I was sick as a dog (laughs). I remember I was definitely fighting something off, but it was a cool experience. It was cool performing with an actual orchestra. It was really vibing and the mood helped, I think, enhance the delivery. The stars just aligned that night and everything went right." -
David Draiman is an operatic baritone who was trained to be a cantor for a good part of his younger life, continuing vocal training after his yeshiva, (he was kicked out of 3, I guess), into his 20’s. He’s trained long enough to understand his vocal folds, how to use his facial and jaw muscles to force his fries and power forward of his throat. He understands damage. David had horrific gastric reflux as a younger man while he was a heavy drinker back then. He had to stop the behavior, but he took a 3 year hiatus to do some other collaborations. He also had surgery to correct the damage done to his cords and on the gastric valve. His instrument is his body. He respects it more now. When he speaks, he is very soft spoken. Even that tells me he’s protecting his voice. I loved the educated observation you made that David doesn’t make use of sharp glottal stops and other ways of straining to chop the consonants. He breathes through his words rolling them into one breath unless he chooses not to. I’m fascinated by his skill. Thank you for your assessment of his voice. The only thing I’d add is that David certainly becomes a story teller by how he brings real emotion into this rendering. This draws us in and allows us to fully understand the message behind the brilliant lyrics of Paul Simon. The angst! If you haven’t, consider watching the official video of this and assess the difference between the live performance on a talk show and the video. Remarkable to see how little difference there is. Thank you again!
When I fist saw the live version a couple of months ago I had been listening to this song on a weekly almost nightly basis and I could just tell something was off not like the way auto tuning is used but just with him. I found out earlier this week he was sick during the live performance and I was like "that makes so much since!"
It's unfortunate that the surgery didn't work longer than he wished as well so he still has to deal with that issue of the acid burning that sphincter (yeah that's what it's called) on his esophagus. He just makes sure to stay to his diet to reduce the acid reflux and sleep in a more of a sitting up position. I think it's his extensive training that had allowed him to understand his vocal cords and the delicacy of it. It's a dangerous area to have surgically treated for a singer. It's how Julie Andrews lost a great deal of her voice/range because she was told she needed surgery on her vocal cords because there were nodules that needed to be removed. Turns out the doctors were wrong so when the surgeon went in there were no nodules on her vocal cords. They were just swollen from overuse because she was performing a lot. But the surgeon made error in surgery and it ended up damaging her vocal cords. She had a few more surgeries after that but nothing could fix the damage. So, not only did she not need surgery in the first place but the surgeon permanently damaged her vocal cords for life. In David's case there is no more doctors can do to help because there is nothing left to really fix the problem so he's careful with it. Music just runs in David's family though. His Great-Grandfather was a Jewish Cantor in one of the biggest Synagogues in Jerusalem. David also has experience in the healthcare industry having worked in and owned acute nursing facilities prior to Disturbed getting their record deal. They are all very intelligent and talented group of guys.
Disturbed is one of those bands that can cover a song better than the original. They use of a little flavor of their own without going too far off the originals.
This is my favorite rendition of this song. His interpretation truly brings out the true meaning of the lyrics. Simon and Garfunkel sang to alarm us, Disturbed sings to give us a final warning. You should watch the original music video of it when you get a chance. It is as beautiful as it is haunting.
He did indeed and it was a respiratory flu. The one note in a higher register is a bit distorted or fried, and a lot of people have sad he was using auto tune on this note. This was a choice by the sound man on set. He didn’t need it and was upset about it. He knows his range.
That's why he sat for the performance. Word is he was super-pissed the show autotuned him, they didn't want to risk his being ill affecting it. Paul Simon said this is his favourite version so any other review is just gravy. A great message given it's best ever expression.
I saw the band Disturbed open up for corn in 2002 and David Draiman was an awesome singer even then. A wa-a-a-a. You could almost say that the crowd was stupefied! Lol
You should check out Disturbed's newest album, its most assuredly different from anything they have ever released before and shows the epic range of David's voice. A lot of Disturbed fans dont like it because its not as metal as they usually do, but I think its the best they have done yet.
I was working while I am watching your video, it totally dragged my attention away from what I was working on lol. I learn something new in every of your video! Awesome :D
I am an absolute terrible singer, but LOVE all genres ofmusic. I have been fascinated by his voice for decades. It is effortless and the sounds he can make from making heavy metal screaming sound melodious to wooing a woman in a heartfelt love song gives actual chills. Just an intriguing voice.🥰
Thank you Ann, I love watching professionals like yourself react to this version of this song. I hope you have now listened to the studio version because David had a cold during this performance and amazing as it is, his voice is even better on the studio version. I have learnt a lot from your reaction and I appreciate you sharing your knowledge. He really has a beautiful voice and I cant get enough, its like rich caramel and this arrangement is about as perfect as a song can get. Id love to hear any recommendations you have for us. Thanks again
As someone ignorant to all of the nuance of singing, I found this reaction highly interesting, and I started learning about the structuring of vocals by delivery and pronunciation for tone or feeling. Great observations on this reaction!
Try reacting to Disturbed "Hold on to Memories" and "The Light," and " Down with the sickness" All are amazing and a vastly different side of the band.
Draiman reveals how Disturbed chose to cover this song and their choice to do something so different than they usually and what it did to them and the world. @
I think you would like "Stupify" by Disturbed. It's a pure metal song from their first album, but the composition might interest you. Thank you for a wonderful reaction and explanation of David's incredible voice! :)
Your eyes and facial expressions relay the emotions you felt as well as the surprise you experienced!! This is a powerful cover of a song written in 1965!! This group has never done a song like this before as they are a Hard Rock/Metal group!! This is my favorite song recorded in the past 5 years!! Wondrously and remarkably this is so far removed from their typical music that anyone (EVERYONE?) is taken aback and or blown away!! Not until this was released (12/2015) did anyone feel these lyrics so intensely!! This is way more dominant and dynamic than the 1965 original; not necessarily better!! This song can and SHOULD be listened to by anyone who likes music; all genre listeners should experience this song!! IMO, 2 more magical songs, check out Heart paying tribute to Led Zeppelin (2012) in front of the boyz!! Beautiful/Powerful/Incredible Version!! = th-cam.com/video/8e2fJfiddx4/w-d-xo.html and then listen to Johnny Cash remake a Nine Inch Nail song (Grunge)... and own it!! = th-cam.com/video/8AHCfZTRGiI/w-d-xo.html *if you feel like seeing/hearing something so extraordinary that I'm not sure this could be improved upon = th-cam.com/video/b5nRY4qa1C4/w-d-xo.html .
Awesome, I think their version of this classic is so much more fitting to the lyrics than the original. Being a vocal coach, have you ever listened to the young rising superstar Angelina Jordan? There are two places to start, either at her appearance at AGT Champions 2020 with her completely new rendition of "Bohemian Rhapsody" or the shocker at age 9, when she re-arranged the original version of "I put a spell on you" by Screaming Jay Hawkings from 1956. You will not regret it :)
CHIQUITITA (Abba) cover by Abby and Annalie of One Voice Children's Choir will make a beautiful material to your students other than lyrics which was their message in the end. You won't regret it.
It would be awesome if you'd react to Phil Anselmo singing Cemetary Gates from the band Pantera! His voice is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!!! His range is like none I've ever heard, not even David has his range I believe. I could be wrong that's why you need to react to it! The studio version would be better than the video but it is up to you! Tysvm!!!
If you haven’t already I would love to see you react to steel heart and three of their songs I would love t see you react to are I’ll never let you go, she’s gone and my love is gone his voice is out of this world
I personally like their music video better than this performance. This was damn good but the visuals of their video knock's the entire performance out of the park.
It's great that people are realizing the just how amazing David Draiman is... he has an uncanny ability to effortlessly switch from clear to rasp in mid note... a good example of this is the song "The Animal". Another singer that has an amazing range is Geoff Tate from the band Queensryche... the song "Silent Lucidity" is a great choice to listen to his gift.
The official video they did was even more powerful to view. If you haven't watched it you really need to th-cam.com/video/u9Dg-g7t2l4/w-d-xo.html I also highly recommend checking out Pentatonix cover of Sound of Silence, it will blow your mind th-cam.com/video/gdVjVtpr55M/w-d-xo.html
Try Queensryche in their 1985 Tokyo performance when they're doing their final song take hold of the flame! Geoff Tate is one of the best singers I've ever heard in my life
The studio version was much more powerful , he had the flu when he recorded this show and they used auto tune to try to fix it he was Furious when they told him he did that cuz she's a classically trained opera singer when he was younger who fronts a metal band now somehow got involved in this project
Yeah, I would be furious as well , he doesn’t need an autotune.. there’s nothing wrong with his pitch control.. he sounds like he’s got cold but it’s not something that needs to be tuned
@@annsouren well to be honest at the time he had a bad case of the flu and I guess he wasn't sounding up to form but still he dont believe in all that fake sound everyone us using these days
Nice reaction! Have you ever react react to the Japanese band name Scandal? I can give you some links for songs by Scandal. I think you might enjoy this group. Please check them out!
Would like to hear your take on "Nina Cried Power" by Hozier featuring Mavis Staples: th-cam.com/video/OBKPI5t9xI8/w-d-xo.html. Does anyone else think a great song with a message is somehow more?
I find the autotune that was thrown on it very annoying, he doesn't need it, and it distracts from his fabulous voice and perfectly emotional delivery.
Please listen to 'jelly rolls'...save me, fall in the fall, glitter, love won, and same asshole....would love your opinion. He's very good n sings from his heart n soul... Remember Jelly Roll you will love him. He's from Tennessee sing country rap a new style.
I’m eager to see your analysis of Haley Reinhart singing at the legendary Chess Records, accompanied by her father: th-cam.com/video/omtsHEs2g0w/w-d-xo.html
Has anyone had any success in getting off this drug? I am spending way too much time watching this cover and first time reactions to it. Please help.
Still deep in my addiction of him and this cover

Me too, but hey just roll with it, never will it be old or boring.👍👍😃
Watching reactions to Jinjers music is a good way to get a new addiction that is harder to shake ;)

David met Paul and they discussed it

We must be close to the same age. I say a very big DITTO to everything you said! Thx

Thank you!
I like that you started realizing he’s a baritone instead of a bass before he’s started actually going up in his range. Good ear.
Thank you! One of my teachers is a classically trained bass, so it was easy to identify ☺️ 🤗
This song is lyrical audacity, vocal audacity, and symphonic audacity! Said differently? It is magnificent!

Can listen to his voice every day💗💗💗 love!!!! Love!!! Love!!!!!!!
Good, intelligent and informative reaction, sister. Thank you for that. God put David on this earth just to sing that song, with THAT voice.
God gave us David for a lot more than just this song. He has others at this level of greatness and emotion--e.g. Down With the Sickness.
Yes, let's keep watching
☺️☺️
That Voice Slays Every Other
Very powerful!!
Disturbed is one of those bands that can cover a song better than the original. They use of a little flavor of their own without going too far off the originals.

You should watch the original music video of it when you get a chance. It is as beautiful as it is haunting.
Another BEAUTIFUL song by Disturbed is Hold on to Memories. It is a very touching song.
He was actually pretty sick in this video. He was upset because the sound man put auto tune on because they were anticipating him screwing up.
He sang this while having the flu
Oh wow! Amazing!
He did indeed and it was a respiratory flu. The one note in a higher register is a bit distorted or fried, and a lot of people have sad he was using auto tune on this note. This was a choice by the sound man on set. He didn’t need it and was upset about it. He knows his range.
Source? Not that I don't believe you; I'm just surprised I haven't heard this yet. Thanks in advance!
That's why he sat for the performance. Word is he was super-pissed the show autotuned him, they didn't want to risk his being ill affecting it. Paul Simon said this is his favourite version so any other review is just gravy. A great message given it's best ever expression.
It’s true. He wasn’t happy with his performance at all. I loved it.
I love your take on this!
Thank you!
Wow you gave a great breakdown on this great song that is sung by David in such moving powerful way. Thank you, ❤️😁👏from uk.
Thank you!
I saw the band Disturbed open up for corn in 2002 and David Draiman was an awesome singer even then. A wa-a-a-a. You could almost say that the crowd was stupefied! Lol

Thank you Ann .
Please react to Disturbed’s Hold On To The. Memories and his cover of Stings If I Ever Lose Faith In You. Keep up the great reactions!
I usually hate it when a song is paused a lot during a reaction video, but you are so knowledgeable and I actually enjoyed learning from you.. ❤️
David has been classically trained. Before going into music, he was studying to be a Cantor
Amazing
David Draiman trained as a cantor and he was not going to sing that night because he was sick but went ahead anyway
The fact that he had the flu and had to sit for the entire performance made this even more amazing
Yes, he’s amazing!
What a Blessing! God trying to get our attention!! Jesus is Truth ❤️
I was working while I am watching your video, it totally dragged my attention away from what I was working on lol.
I learn something new in every of your video! Awesome :D
Love your breakdown of the song
SUPERB comments for this VERY BEST reinterpretation of the song SOUND of SILENCE
I feel for you, having had anxiety off and on I know how bad it sux. I hope you find relief.
In my opinion this has got to be the best assessment of this song.

As someone ignorant to all of the nuance of singing, I found this reaction highly interesting, and I started learning about the structuring of vocals by delivery and pronunciation for tone or feeling. Great observations on this reaction!
The sound quality of this song is the best I've seen in a reaction video.
Try reacting to Disturbed "Hold on to Memories" and "The Light," and " Down with the sickness" All are amazing and a vastly different side of the band.
Thank you - definitely! I’m sure it’s amazing!
❤️ love
EPIC ! wonderful reaction
David was trained as a Cantor in the synagogue!!!
Chills are real very cool song 🤘💯🤙👍👌
Thank you!
And he was real sick that night, unreal!
The voice of and angel and a demon. Great reaction.
You people need to come up with your own comments
Please react to "Hold on to Memories" and "The Light," Both are amazing and a vastly different side of the band. Disturbed -

You should give a listen to tool live. The song is called sober from the 1993 Reading festival.
Awesome, I think their version of this classic is so much more fitting to the lyrics than the original. Being a vocal coach, have you ever listened to the young rising superstar Angelina Jordan? I love metal.
Wow. What a coincidence. I subscribed to you 1 min ago. You seem so knowledgeable. I only saw you Nightwish Phantom reaction and had to follow you
Thank you so much for subscribing!!! And your kind words 🤗
A great reaction video Ann. I love watching the facial expressions of all the vocal coaches. They almost swoon.
Haha Thank you 🤗

Oh yes! It’s on my list! Thank you
My first introduction to this band was a song called "Bound" you should check it out
that was a great reaction! You should react to Metallica's Turn the Page (the official music video) too! thats powerful stuff
Thank you!
So David Draiman is a classically trained singer.
nope thats a myth for some reason ppl keep spreading even though he has stated him self unknown amount of times he was never classically trained
I believe he was very sick during this performance.
If you haven’t already I would love to see you react to steel heart and three of their songs I would love t see you react to are I’ll never let you go, she’s gone and my love is gone his voice is out of this world
He's admitted to having voice coaching so yes his voice is awesome. And btw he is well educated. Was gonna be a lawyer lol
I can hear the intelligence and intellect in his voice
Should check out bruce dickinson of iron maiden. Watch 'hallowed be thy name' live in 1982. Really impressive
"I was 100% sure he was a bass".......that tenor though.
I personally like their music video better than this performance. This was damn good but the visuals of their video knock's the entire performance out of the park.
I have to check it out
It's great that people are realizing the just how amazing David Draiman is... he has an uncanny ability to effortlessly switch from clear to rasp in mid note... a good example of this is the song "The Animal". Thank you very much! I will definitely do more reactions to his songs
I think she’s dead wrong snout the vocal fry. He used it for the sole purpose of bringing anger into the song.
The official video they did was even more powerful to view. If you haven't watched it you really need to th-cam.com/video/u9Dg-g7t2l4/w-d-xo.html
I also highly recommend checking out Pentatonix cover of Sound of Silence, it will blow your mind th-cam.com/video/gdVjVtpr55M/w-d-xo.html
Great reaction. Please check out a band Nightwish and their song Ghost love score on beginning. You will be delighted.
Fire meets ice.
react to Disturbed live, Hold on to memories
He is classically trained
Try Queensryche in their 1985 Tokyo performance when they're doing their final song take hold of the flame! Geoff Tate is one of the best singers I've ever heard in my life
David is a classical trained vocalist
Wonderful analysis!

Can you please react to Queensryche Take Hold of the Flame Live in Tokyo?!?
Thank you very much for subscribing! I’ll check it out! 🤗
He arranges and produces all his videos
David was very sick during this performance. He had the flu with a high temp. It's why he performed sitting down
The studio version was much more powerful , he had the flu when he recorded this show and they used auto tune to try to fix it he was Furious when they told him he did that cuz she's a classically trained opera singer when he was younger who fronts a metal band now somehow got involved in this project
You need to watch the official video. much better
This video was in 2016

Would like to hear your take on "Nina Cried Power" by Hozier featuring Mavis Staples: th-cam.com/video/OBKPI5t9xI8/w-d-xo.html. Does anyone else think a great song with a message is somehow more?
Wow Mavis Staples with Hozier - that’s interesting
Seriously do yourself a favor after this and listen to the studio version too much more powerful piece
I’ll do it!
I find the autotune that was thrown on it very annoying, he doesn't need it, and it distracts from his fabulous voice and perfectly emotional delivery.
Word is that he was not aware of this before-hand and was rather annoyed himself.
Oh wow, that’s now I understand..
Please react to morissete from Philippines
