    You’re a brave brave man! I keep all my parts receipts for my CJ5, YJ and TJ but wouldn’t dare add em up 😂. Let’s just say I know exactly why I stay broke🤣🤣🤣.

      Hahaha just bought a 01 tj Sahara with 103k miles and let’s just say I kept all receipts and have them in a folder. But I’m so scared to add it all up.

    We're only here once so I say go for it. I love the build. I was just given a 2000 TJ Sport from a family member. With zero cost going in I feel like I can splurge a little bit. It's still 100% factory in very good to excellent condition. 135k miles. So my build begins this week. And your video is a great help to me. I'm definitely going with the Nitto's you chose. And the bumper/winch setup. Looks awesome. Thank you for this information.

    Very nice Jeep. I have a 97 TJ and love it. I only have 32" tires. Yours looks awesome sitting on 35s. I think you missed the price on the tires by 1k. $376 x 5 $1880.

    Very beautifully done! I really appreciate cost breakdowns.. I’m shopping for my first Jeep and videos like this provide invaluable research and provide realistic expectations.
    I feel like I should shop for something in moderately good condition that could use some minor repairs, adding on a lift etc, I feel like I could have done over time and it’s awesome to see what kind of money can potentially go into such projects

    Love your TJ. Just putting the finishing touches on mine. I live out here in the Southwest. I ran a cold air intake. Out here in the heat my TJ would bog out and die. Not enough air. I changed over to a cold air intake 💯 percent improvement. Better performance and no longer bogs out. The box was to restrictive. I'm running a K&N cold air intake, a throttle body spacer, Pace Setter Headers and a catback exhaust.

    22k ain’t bad. I’m into my tj for 25k with a purchase price of 12k, and I did all the wrenching and welding myself. Shit adds up quick when you want a reliable rig that can wheel hard and make it back every time.

    Awesome Jeep looks good I love it. I’m currently in the process of building mine and I didn’t get to lift or bumpers or lights or anything like that and the money I spent on it… people think I’m crazy. Only if they knew what plans I have for it lol

    I'm pretty humble myself but I don't mind sharing the cost of stuff. People are curious because they wonder if they can afford it. The only people with the answers are the people that have done it. Then they go silent treatment on everyone and wont share their costs. But I don't mind one bit. Heres my Jeeps story. As of today I have invested $28,600 in parts with my free labor into my 2002 TJ that I just bought in August 2021. That doesn't include the $16,400 purchase price for my rust free Jeep i had shipped from California to Minnesota, yes it was beautiful and black to start out with. For some reason I decided to make a spread sheet of everything i bought at the time i buy it. So its pretty accurate. This doesn't include the additional things like wire, crimpers, weather pack ends, specialty tools for axles stuff, etc which would probably run another 4k. I didn't add them into the cost because i will use the wire and crimpers and tools on anything and everything i buy. It wasn't jeep specific. But I gotta say, EL' DIABLO is one bad ass jeep now.

    I have the same tj jeep and year bought as well last year with 104,000 private owner for 8,900 put alot of money into it finally figured the main problem with these jeeps the coils replaced it runs great now after putting so many parts

    Nice looking TJ, but won’t hold up wheeling 35” tires. The front Dana 30 is stronger than the rear Dana 35. When you break your stock rear axle shaft the tire will separate from the Jeep leaving you totally stranded. The SYE kit keeps the rear drive line from popping out but 4 1/2” of lift will create too much drive line angle causing vibration and short life. You may need to install selectable front hubs to eliminate front driveline vibration on the highway. The front driveline will be extended too far on the sliding splines and need to be lengthened. Your transfer case linkage is now way out of whack and it will probably pop out of gear once you get a little frame flex. You may have already noticed that the brakes now barely work due to the larger and heavier wheels and tires. If you seriously wheel this setup you can expect death wobble after 20-30K miles. The solution will require replacing every bushing and the steering box. The lack of rock rails leave the vulnerable tub sides open to body damage. The heavy spare tire setup on the rear will cause the rear suspension to bottom out easily unless you replace the rear springs. The big lift without a body lift makes this setup very unstable in steep terrain. Not knocking your build, just want others to realize that your big short arm lift and 35” tires opens a Pandora’s box of never ending surprises that will drive you nuts and require lots more money.
    I managed to break my Dana 44 rear axle ring and pinion running 35’s and wheeling conservatively. No way would I run those tires on a Dana 35 anywhere off road. Good luck.

    I bought mine for $2,500 CAD, I am at 29,000 CAD (so basically same as your price). Mine is a 1997, little more miles than yours. It has 31” with 2.5” lift. I added lockers, front and back. Didn’t need to re-gear. I didn’t need the bigger tires and wanted to keep stress low on the DANA 30 front and DANA 44 rear. Front locker is automatic and rear is POSI LSD. You have a nice build.

    Nice Jeep! You didn't mention the rear bumper and tire carrier, that look great by the way! But I know they're pricey! I have an 08 JK that I got super cheap ($8000, with121k miles), due to the fact it didn't have doors, a top, carpet or a rear seat. Already had Moto Metal wheels, 3.5 inch lift on 33's. I love it!

    I used to hate the YJ. I have a YJ now and I Iove it more than the TJ! I've put way too much $ into it, but it's exactly how I want it. Axel swaps, lockers, 4.3 V6, TH350, tall skinny swampers! Perfect for the woods!

      I don't understand stand how you would prefer a yj over a TJ. The suspension setup with coils vs leaf springs. It's day and night especially off road.

    I have a 99 that was given to me at 28 by my parents who bought it new in 99 and only ever used it as a weekend warrior here and there. Not kidding, it has 43k original miles on it and completely mint, zero rust, zero pealing clear coat etc. Also bone stock. I am now planning what I want to do to it.

    I paid almost $13k for my 2006 rubicon automatic, with 170k miles.
    It runs great, the engine looks very good, the Frame has no rust holes but has rust flakes .
    Some of the paint is scratched no dents .
    Idk if I got screwed:( but ehhh can't be worse then when I bought a boat.
    Boat was an epic money pit, ended up sinking it and was the best thing that happened to it since it no longer ate money from me.

    I got an 2003 Sahara with EVERY epgrade except a hard top.. with 115k miles.. 7.5k$ Texas Jeep had it 4 years. its doubled in value..

      Cv front driveshaft isn’t needed. Above about 2.5” and you’ll want a slip yoke eliminator and a double cv driveshaft for the rear

    Thank you so much for this, I recently got a cheap 2001 Jeep tj, all original 60th anniversary, got a decent about of rust under the carriage, but drives great, 139k mi, 5 grand for it, but all in all, aside from rust underneath, pretty great, want to put a tiny amount of money into it, but not too much, really wanted to know what it costs, how much I’d get back, and if it’s worth it to me. I decided I love this Jeep, or the TJ in general. I think I’m gonna sell this guy and get one in better condition, but that’s also gonna cost money. I figured, get a cheap one, see if I like it, and well, I certainly do.

    $22k for that amazing TJ is about as good as it gets! Our TJ's are vastly superior to any heep from '07 - present imo. I don't really concern myself too much on what I spent on my '05 TJ Rocky Mtn, but I have a ballpark amt. I'm well under $25k too. Honestly, these 4.0 I6 w/ 3.73's, a Dana 44 w/ lsd are my favorite Jeeps with the CJ-7's being a close second. I see people getting bogged down with these newer tin can edition heeps, upwards of $65k. And the worst are those 4 dr limos. Sorry, but those are plastic garbage with bells and whistles not ever meant for a Jeep. A Jeep should honor the Willys MB configuration to be considered a Jeep, a rugged utilitarian vehicle. The rest is heep misc.

      Read your post and needed to chime in. Absolutely on point with the 4 door garbage, 2 doors are Jeeps, 4 doors are soccer mom vehicles. (Same thing with Pickups!) But, I rate CJ's ahead of TJ's. Sorry. Too much gadgetry on TJ's. Prefer the TJ suspension to the CJ's leaf spring, but, that's only because I'm a fossil now, and need a smoother ride. 4.0 straight 6? Absolutely. Straight 6 torque is legendary. And transmissions! An automatic, for fuel economy? Someone want's fuel economy, buy a subcompact car. There's a saying. Ferrari's are red, and Jeeps have a stick! Apparently, some people never have heard of this...... The MB's, the CJ's the YJ's and the TJ"S. All 2 doors. But now, there are more 4 doors built than 2 doors. Sorry, my 3 cent rant.

      @@jeepanimal2943 I agree, the CJ-7's are amazing and on any given week if I spot one like I just did 2 days ago, they become my favorite Jeep. My '05 TJ Rocky Mtn has Fox Shox and completing it with their stabilizer next week. The suspension is about as good as it gets on and off road for this "older dude". I searched 2 months for a TJ, had to pass on so many because of rotted out frames. And then stumbled on this '05 Rocky Mtn with an immaculate frame, only it was an auto. But after waiting so long and borrowing the wife's car over that time, I pulled the trigger. This TJ was just too good to pass up! And honestly it's the best vehicle I've had. Maybe one day, I'll seek out my favorite, the CJ-7 or maybe a CJ-8, the amazing Scrambler!

      @@JeepTJWheelin Just in case. TDK in Montana, (I believe,) or Throttle Down Kustoms as it's called, makes a hybrid frame for CJ-7's. CJ body mounts and TJ suspension mounts. You need to make your own engine mounts. Better than the original frames. I was researching to make a CJ7 with a NP242 T-case. Their frame will do perfectly. Once of course I find some extra cash floating around.

    I have an 04 Columbia edition,I looked for 2 years b4 I bought mine I was determined to find a low mile one in mint condition I almost resorted 2 Davis auto sports in Virginia,I live in NH till one night b4 bed was doing the usual fb market place ebay then to Craigslist and saw mine 32k original miles one owner 2.5 inch lift with 31×10.5 BFG'S manual only drawback was the color solar yellow and it was only an hour and a half away it had only been listed for 4 hours I called and he said his phone had been blowing up he had someone coming 2 look at it at 3 the next day I begged and begged him 2 let me come 1st thing in am and bump the other peeps that couldn't make it as early finally he said fine 1st come 1st serve I drove home with it that day b4 noon paid 18k there were only a few at that time with low miles like this one and they were 23k + I lucked out i think. This is my second summer with it and I'm gonna put a bigger lift in it finally the way it sits now there's 9"from top of tire to fender in the back and only 4" in the front looking at a teraflex 3 or 4 ". I don't 4 wheel with it none of my friends have jeeps I just want it to ride nice and look good it's stiff as a board now just brutal down a bumpy road heard rough country has decent riding lifts..any thoughts on a nice cushy riding lift? I wish u could post picks in comments on utube.

    ONLY had 6500 ( sixty five hundred ) original miles .

    How do you like your 4.56 with the 35s? I’m going between the 4.56 and the 4.88 for my build and would love your thoughts.

      The 4.56 are good. They are set perfect for Highway driving, but for Offroad if I could do it over again I’d probably go 4.88. They do fine, but sometimes I could stand a little more pull in first gear on the trails.

      I’d say if you still plan to drive on the highway go 4.56. If it’s just an Offroad rig, go 4.88.

      Rides great. My mind may change in the future but for now the short arm kit is plenty for me. It has no issues handling what I need it to Offroad.

    I don’t think them tail lights should be illegal original lights have built-in reflectors I don’t like the spare tire looks pretty dangerous. Why do you need a full size spare😂 the price of them headlights is crazy

      So am I, but not with setting caster on new adjustable control arms and doing an alignment. Wasn’t worth me trying to install the entire lift myself.

      @@_everydayoffroad_ you don't and can't set the caster. You can only do the toe in toe out adjustment.i just put Rusty's HD cross over steering on my 2000 TJ Sahara and the front end alignment was a walk 8n the park.

    You've lessoned the capability of this jeep by lifting it so high, its too much w/ the SA's. The joints of RE will hinder articulation, they're junk and will need constant attention w/ maintenance. Replacing bushings every 6 months will be your new norm, as well as that RE track-bar bushing. Hopefully it doesn't come in contact with your differential housing like they're known to do. Spending money on lights instead of addressing quick disconnects that come with the cheap lift lessons capability.. You wasted money an opportunity to fix the cheap lift you bought by adding expensive lights and not replacing quick disconnects. Disconnecting sway bars hinder off-road capability because it allows too much body roll with coil springs.. I would be willing to bet you didn't address rear sway bar which will only further hinder off-road capability. Because the rear will be in constant battle with the front even causing front tires to lift on certain articulating instances which is the very last thing you would want for capability. Currie, now, rock jock anti sway bars are the solution. The only thing i see you did correctly was go currie correct lync steering. If I were purchasing a jeep I would avoid this like the plague.. You didn't address the X edition axles w/35" tires which are a weak point on lesser model TJ jeeps when upgrading to larger tires...Regearing was an intelligent move except that you're throwing money at axles that need to be fully replaced. You didn't get a top of the line lift.. RE products are on the cheaper side of things.. You didn't address the stock crossmember aka "the shovel" which is basically a manufacturer built anchor.. I see alot of comments w/ people who know nothing about jeeps praising this build which is disappointing. This jeep should be an example of what not to do.

      Meh, not all of that is true. The stock axles can be built to handle 35’s no problem and is a cheaper option than building junkyard axles or buying new axles. The crossmember will get hung up on hard trails but isn’t really that big of a deal. His control arms aren’t the best but I’m sure they’ll be good enough for him. Johnny joints on both ends would be much better. The rear swaybar on tj’s are fine, they don’t limit flex. The front disconnects will work, but it would have been better to do an anti rock. Being lifted 4.5” does not limit capability. It makes room for 35’s and lots of flex while also being nice and stable.

      Extended links come with kits designed for on-road stability and 100% hinder flex - it’s what they’re designed to do !!!!!
      The front AR only shines when the Rear AR installed. Why would they even make the rear….
      Ridiculous not to change stock cross member and even more ridiculous to lower it further hindering clearance.
      Everything I said can be found thru a little research.
      That TJ platform isn’t new, ya dummies . It’s only 3 Jeep generations ago.
