Hey i have a question do you know the soundtrack from shippuden that has a guitar that goes like da da daa da da da daaa daa da__ da da daa err err rmmmm and then like a japense feel to it. It usually played during happy times not fight scene or depressing times. Like when obito talked to the one chick he liked. I cant remember right now. PLEASE TELL ME THIS SO I CAN DOWNLOAD THE SONG

The music, character designs and choreographed taijutsu fights are the best things about Naruto.
There are a lot of good things about this series, it's sad to see so many people disregard its strong points and call it "just another generic shounen trash" while the creativity was definitely there.
Every season there are about 50 new anime. 70% of these shows feel almost exactly the same(your cute girls doing cute things shows, your harem shows, your bishi boys doing bishi things shows, or your self insert protagonist transported to another world shows.)
And almost everytime the Shounen Jump show that airs the same season will be the one that stands out, and be among the few shows that season people actually care/talk about. So I find it weird that people keep calling Shounen Jump shows generic.

Sadness and Sorrow properly outlined the moments it was used, especially in scenes such as where Kakashi is retrieving Naruto from the Valley of End. It emphasizes three major points; Kakashi's failure to save his student, Naruto's failure to understand, connect with, and save his friend, and the extent to which Sasuke is willing to go to see Itachi dead by his hand. In that moment, the weight of Sasuke's defection fully sets in. We see both how attached to Sasuke the rest of Team 7 is, and how deeply Itachi's actions affected Sasuke. One of the most powerful moments in anime.

Holy shit you're right. Sadness and Sorrow DOES go through the 5 stages of grief.
0- (when you get the bad news): 0:00 to 0:30
    1- Denial: 0:30 to 1:05
    2- Anger: 1:05 to 1:35
    3- Bargaining: 1:35 to 2:08
    4- Depression: 2:08 to 2:42
    5- Aceptance: 2:42 to end
I can't find the words to explain it, but I really feel like that's what the composer was going for.

tbh I have to admit that Naruto's soundtrack is probably the best soundtrack ever hands down cause man even after years YEARS of not hearing it I can still hear a small fraction of any random background song and still turn my head and say "your watching naruto?"
yeah some have more iconic opening songs like Evangelion but I'm talking FULL SOUNDTRACK, I can remember some of the background music from Dragonball's or one piece but naruto? I recognize that shit immediately and that's impressive as all hell!

I feel that the original Naruto track has more style while the Shippuden turns more generic. But maybe that's just nostalgia

    • @MathWizHQ
      @MathWizHQ  7 ปีที่แล้ว +43

I initially agreed with you, and I kind of still do, but when I was going through both of the OSTs for this video, I found that Shippuden also had quite a few noteworthy tracks in there. I do think it can be a bit more repetitive or forgettable than the original at times, but then again, Shippuden is roughly twice as long as the original anime, so that doesn't surprise me.
When I originally marathoned the series, the original OST kept me on the edge of my seat pretty consistently. Shippuden's OST rarely had that effect on me.

The soundtrack of Naruto is great, but it's in Shippuden where the Soundtrack REALLY gets good! I especially love: Pain's theme; Madara's theme; Sasuke's Revolution; My name; Departure to the Front Lines; The Guts to never give up; The Akatsuki theme; The Kage theme; etc. I love the soundtrack so much that I consider it as one of my favorite anime soundtracks of all time, and I even have a good chunk of them downloaded on my tablet to listen to.

Original series sounds video gamey to me and I love it. For me, that entails being initially unimpressed but slowly growing to love it exponentially. Shippuden sounds like a movie soundtrack... more immediately impactful but not as potent... more mature, mellowed out. Less hype, excitement, wonder, and intrigue than the original; which makes me feel like a kid again.
But man oh man, both have some good music. I cry, I laugh, I cheer to these tracks.

I think I'd have to say that my favorite song in Naruto is Sadness and Sorrow. When I listen to yes of course it's incredibly sad but it also makes me feel, hopeful I guess. It's like the song is trying to say "It's okay to cry now, it's okay to be sad, but always remember that things will get better."

"The monotenous guitar strings carry an air of ominous mystery, hinting at Sasuke's dark past, and the suffering he had endured as a child."
I had to pause there... You're describing a rhythm guitar. The rhythm guitar isn't hinting at past suffering, it's doing the work of a bass. The song is written to sound relaxed and cool because Sasuke is relaxed and cool. I'm fine with interpretation, but that one was a little... eeeehhh.

I like how Pains soundtrack (from what I can gather as a layman) combines what I think sounds like gospel with an ominous sounding background, I think it fits the character well.

While I agree that Orochimaru's theme quality dropped in Shippuden, there appeared a new contender for "fucking awesome onimous villain theme" in Pain's Theme. It's perfect for a threat on a completely new level like he is.

Something i've never seen brought up is the fact that the "Revolution/Junkyuusha" track for sasuke's revolution at the end of shippuden, theres bits of everyones themes in the song itself. Theres the organ representing orochimaru and what he gave sasuke, theres bits of the shamisen for naruto's connection with him, and a few others im forgetting, probably itachi and kakashi as well.

The Akastuki theme that’s like mostly dark monk chants in Shippuden is hella iconic.
Sauske’s country-blues guitar licks really hits still.
And of course the “Naruto Flute” gets me hype to this day.

Aight, so Orochimaru's original theme is straight Final Fantasy final boss Bach. And Shippuden's Sasuke theme is some "In my time of dying" meets "While my guitar gently weeps" Trigun/Cowboy Bebop goodness.

Koto Amatsukami in Shippuden is notable for playing when Itachi frees himself from the reanimation jutsu & was created to perfectly sync with that scene it is 1st used in, & from what I understand it only plays 1 other time in the series. Orochimaru had 2 similar yet different themes in Early Naruto the normal theme & then the Orochimaru Fighting Theme with both of them using organ.

Can you please do a segment on Yasuharu Takanashi's Shippuden scores (plus, maybe a comparison to Masuda's approach)? I'd love to see you cover Shiki's and Mushishi's soundtracks as well, composed by Takanashi and Masuda respectively. Thanks for the video!

I'd like both Naruto and One Piece to be revisited in remakes at some point; both worlds are incredibly expansive and interesting, but their main adaptation ends up rife with problems. With One Piece, these problems are, from what I can tell, frontloaded; mainly the issue of an appallingly slow pace, which a remake would clean up easily by trying to go through material at a more proper pace. With Naruto, they start mainly with Pierrot's normal pitfalls and progress into large story issues that are mostly the natural product of how Naruto was controlled (Sasuke wouldn't have existed in Naruto in Kishimoto's original vision, which would have avoided may of the problems he caused later on, although his narrative had very interesting moments throughout) and having to continue writing for the series when the more powerful in-universe elements defied any sense of gravity in combat. I feel like this could generally be fixed in a revisit by a studio whose main aim is to realize creative vision, like what we got with Hunter X Hunter and Fullmetal Alchemist.
I kind of lost my point there, but any Naruto remake should keep this soundtrack if at all possible. Perhaps edit it so some segments are faster, if the parts they play over are faster, but that's it.

A note on Orochimaru's theme: if use advanced enough headphones (like me), you'll notice that the organ will sway between each earbud, first stronger on the left, then equal in both ears, and lastly stronger in the right, before leaning back the other way. Its completly mesmerizing, and feels like a snake swaying before its prey, which is fitting as every time he comes on screen, he dominates who ever he is fighting either phycologically or physically. Just wanted to throw it out there.

Naruto Part 1 is so much better than Part 2 as a series. The only reason Part 2 is better is because it offers more interesting events such as Sasuke vs. Itachi which everybody was eagerly anticipating since the beginning. But overall, Part 1 has better pacing, sticks more to the ninja theme and uses its characters more efficiently with even minors like Kiba, Lee or Neji actually playing a significant role. I just wish the Naruto never featured aliens and gods.

Shout outs to Fake. A song so good it made me love a character before we even knew too much about him. Shikamaru was okay at best for me, but before we found out was a genius or even totally lazy and laid back, we got that song when Temari strikes at him. I marked out for his theme so hard.

There are also three or four missing here, but i must say that you combined them very intelligently. Cool soundtracks are also trapped and eerie. And i like the cursed seal ost. And to top it of avenger extended version when Hashirama and Tobirama got out of their caskets was really driving version, probably my favorite.
