The droids do *not* interact with each other.
That's a shame.
Don't understand why Disney has them lie about that.
I've heard that you need the personality chip installed for them to interact with each other.
These are cool. I'm sure they'll be pricey. Except for the interchangeable electronics and some accessories, these aren't much different from other remote controlled droids including Sphero's Star Wars series.

I like these compared to those you make in the Droid Shop. The R5-D4 is excellent looking, though not as awesome as the original 2002 R2 Interactive Astromech from Hasbro. Never read a story where the mouse droid had offensive capabilities with missiles. They just run away. Weird option.
I'm pretty sure R5-D4 was from the droid shop. As far as I know, R2-D2 is the only R series that you can get pre-assembled.
For me, I'm thinking of building one as close to R5-D4 as possible and then painting the rest. I don't think the decals would go well. Not to mention, you'd need two sets to do it right (one red and one blue). R2, I'd just buy the pre-assembled one.
If I were to make one, I'd have to make the lavender BB-8 or the black BB-9E.
