Another informative and brilliant sea trial of another all year round robust motor yacht . Nobody else does long full sea trials like you have done here on the Nord 49+ Jack, which is brilliant for us veteran skippers. A lovely well equipped all weather boat that can be used probably all year round.
Nice to see a proper sea trail, from a proper boating channel. Most videos you see from the main brands are filmed on mill ponds where the only danger from spray is a model dropping the bubbly 🍾 !!! Proud to say that I’ve been with you since launch and loving every video. Now, where is my Superhawk trial?! 😊

Loved the longer review. It was very obvious that this boat did not have a SeaKeeper. I would love to see a review like this in this sort of condition with Stabilization.
It's a fantastic nearly all weather boat. Great sea trial and what I really love is the salon/ galley area in bright white. For me, it's just the wow factor. Down to the cabins it becomes a bit more homey 😊, great boat for 4, but the 3. cabin for kids, unexpected guests or just storage is just great for this sized boat.
Finally a review of a Scandinavian boat in waters other than smooth. Would have loved to have seen such a review in conditions like these on the Sargo and Targa. Great review!
Out of the big three Finns, this might be the one that ticks all the boxes for me. The Sargo 45 looks perfect, but has no flybridge (which is a must for me). The Botnia Targa 46 is awesome, but the cabin and cockpit layout are not loungy enough for what I want to use the boat. This Nordstar 49 looks like it has the same seaworthiness as the other two while having what appears to me like the best interior and cockpit and an awesome flybridge. The Goldilocks of what I am looking for!
love the boat, love the layout, its great for short fast hops... its about 1.3 gal per mile clean, with a 300 mile range, so you aren't going to be taking it on any really long trips. if you are doing something like The Great Loop, you will be stopping every 8 hours at a port and refueling at cruise speed. even if you throttle it down to 10 knots... you will be stopping every 300 miles to refuel but in that case at least its every 3 days so you aren't feeling like you are just doing, different city everyday in the loop. instead you can set anchor off shore. relax then continue the cruise the next day.

Would take the Sargo over the Targa, and Nordstar over Sargo. It feels more modern, up to date somehow than the other two. (on a separate note, Jack, when you talk about headroom in cabins, please also let us know your height!)
Another quality review, thanks 👍👏 Could have spent a little more time on the tour of the boat, seems like it was rushed a bit (fighting the sunset I guess....). Pity there's no standup height at the helm, otherwise a well designed boat with a lot of good features. If you get another chance at it some day, it could be interesting to hear more about the shaft version.

I'm looking to understand what other motor boats could cope with this weather. I will be in a position to buy next summer, want to sail the Irish Sea and down to the Med, but want a boat that is substance and not show. Wouldno be right in assuming that a Princess 62 for example, would have no chance in rougher seas? Tia.

Thanks Jack, Gosh what amazing boats the Nord Star, Sargo and Taga - Each have plus and minus for me - What is with the front windscreen? did it have some kind of tinting? looked nice and of course practical for glare.
Cabin layouts are superior to competitors, would change the entrance to the third cabin as it takes away valuable galley space but also just make it a utility area and put a davit on the roof for a tender.

just went back and compared the targa footage to this. the nord star seems to be much quieter and not slam as much even though these waves are bigger than what the targa had. also seems like you were having to speak much louder in the targa.
Huh, in reading the comments I think I'm the only one who thought those conditions were nothing for a boat that size. I literally just took a 24' Key West CC from Chatham to West Dennis MA in 4'+ seas...now that was a sea trial!
I don't like this Nordstar 49 very much. I would prefer a boat with the looks and the flybridge of the Targa 46 and the interior layout of the Sargo 45. The new Marex 440 is also a big crush for me right now🙃
I agree. Imagine 5 boats on this trip together so you can test all. This NS49+, Hardy 50, GB54, Nimbus 495 and maybe the M48 for something different. Actually can you do M48 shitty weather test 🙏
More longer sea trials like this is what people want to see for these types of boat 👍

It has a tinted screen that you can pull down from inside the wheelhouse. Very good in bright conditions - Jack

Try Buzzards Bay on a day with a good breeze.
Missing gas-spring seats on the flybridge.2 filters on the engines are placed by Volvo upside down. Will be come a mess when changing.
