Also: the respawns are generous going backwards but imagine falling while driving forwards. they're downright brutal at times.

A bit late to the party here, but they actually are all possible backwards. Some of them like DK Mountain and Koopa Cape require some really wacky methods though.

I can’t wait 😜 for you to do Mario kart DS!
I was able to do N64 Bowser’s Castle. All you have to do is to bounce and spin of the wall right next to the stairs and you should be able to get on the stair and finish. After that hard part, there is no more jumps so you will be good to go. It will take a few tries to do, but it is possible. FYI: I am not a TAS. Also, I would recommend The Spear with Funky Kong, The Flame Runner with Funky Kong, or Dry Bones with The Quacker.

Think the reason this one went so well is because retro tracks tended to be flatter due to console limitations + them not knowing what they wanted to do quite yet.

I remember noticing the Acronym for Delfino Square was also DS
N64 Bowser's Castle- The way to do it is when you jump off, you have to hit the patform you are attempting to get onto. This applies to most levels, including grumble volcano (a bit).
Retro Tracks from MKWII is most likely able to be done backwards since it has no long ranged jumps
If you do CTGP backwards, SADX Twinkle Circuit is possible but you need to use the spear and use all of your mushrooms and also get lucky with respawn.

If you think about the respawn only works because you going backward. If you were going forward the set back would be horrible meaning that all respawn will be beneficial
When I was younger I used to play Delfino Square on my DS all the time and only just recently realized it's based on Super Mario Sunshine.
on waluigi stadium, if you wheelie and use mushroom you can go over the ramp
