    Am I missing something ... I have a USB to USB-C and the GoPro Webcam software downloaded but nothing comes through to OBS. Does it take a USB 3.0 to work? The cable is charging the camera but no image comes through.

    Both videos look good, but if I’m honest the the hassle of using a hdmi capture device isn’t worth that little extra quality.
    I know you said it’s usb-c but that’s just the connector, do you know what standard of port you were using was. (2.0, 3.0, 3.1 gen 1 or 3.2 gen 2). I’m going to assume it’s a lot of bandwidth needed for a high res image.
    I’m pulling my hair out trying to find a web cam I actually like.

    • @wizardorlegend

      Lol, I managed to find the link to the manual and found it’s only usb-c camera side and usb-a computer side and is usb 3.0.

    Many Factors to consider. You have TONs of better lighting than Joe. Then on USB-C You gotta consider a USB-C 3.0 or Higher cable to handle the bandwidth. Plus have a 3.0 or Higher USB port on your PC. Those all can make a difference. Both should really look almost identical .

    HI Danny- thanks for your info. I have the Hero 9 Black with the Media Mod. I typically hook up an external lavalier mic, and that works fine. As a lifelong professional TV cameraman, the one thing that’s missing is the ability to monitor the incoming audio, live / real-time, via headphones. Is there a way to do that? Can I use an HDMI audio extractor on the HDMI port?

    • @MrBlackReviews
      @MrBlackReviews  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      i know exactly what you mean.. if they had a headphone out that would make sense especially when you call it a media mod!
      if you plug in the hdmi to extract the audio it will make it harder to function but could technically work. I would suggest getting a mic system that has a headphone out for monitoring...i just did a review for a wireless system that had a headphone out for monitoring on the receiver

    • @jameszura7342
      @jameszura7342 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MrBlackReviews Thanks for your reply. All of the HDMI Audio Extractor converters that I’ve seen require a DC5v power supply. So, I’d have to additionally bring in some type of battery rig for that. Plus, the 1/8” mini audio jack is probably a line-level, with not enough to feed headphones, so I’d need a small battery-powered line amp. This is getting quite cumbersome, as my application for this rig is run-and-gun remote standups. I have a Sony FS7 for my principal camera that I’ve used for years, so I’m not at a loss for creating quality content. However, I was so impressed with the Hero 9’s stabilization and picture quality, I’d like to use it for quick and tight situations.
      Another solution: I have a Sennheiser wireless lav that I can run through a passive (not powered) mic splitter, take one feed into the GoPro, and the other into my portable Zoom H6 audio recorder, which I can monitor with headphones. If the audio on the GoPro recording is pristine, great- otherwise, I have a backup on the Zoom recorder, and all is on battery power.

    Thanks a lot for the video and explaining. The documentation of the Elgato and GoPro 9 is awful so you guys are life savers. I use the Hero 9 with a MacBook Pro for Webcasts and found that the USB-C tends to stutter sometimes, especially when processing the feed though OBS or some Virtual Background in Teams or Zoom. Does anyone have the same experience? I think the software is still unstable and also the Hero has some need for CPU optimization. Also Webcam Mode heavily relies on good lighting to look sharp and nice. I am still waiting for an opportunity to stress test how media mod and works on long sessions, but for me it looks way more stable and works better in OBS for processing. Also you can use the setting of the GoPro for worse lightning. I don’t have a GPU at hand but you maybe can get a better punch from the Gaming software. If you can share any tipps or experiences with long streams, stuttering issues and OBS with GoPro and CanLink that would be awesome.

    Hey Danny love all your content my man, but especially the GOPRO content! My question to you and EVERYONE ELSE: Go Pro 9 With media mod, with a brand new USB C cable, and 3.1 A power, with the hdmi wired to a capture card into LAPTOP and OBS - my BATTERY DRAINS to the point that the GOPRO9 "WEBCAM" dies after about an hour and an half or so. Does anyone have any tricks to avoid the battery drain?? I tried to run without a battery inside, but the GP9 would not show up in OBS without the battery giving it extra juice. FYI i also have a hero 4 and i CAN RUN the webcam without a battery + capture card... do you think becasue of the the GP 9 MEDIA MOD it just cant do as much with one USB C being spliced inside the MEDIA MOD - meaning it doesn't get enough power to charge???
    Anyhow, sorry for the long winded message.. any 2CENTS would be appreciated!!

      @MrBlackReviews  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Ryan... thanks so much for the comment and kind words ! It’s a good question , I think you are right that it does drain while also being plugged in. So another question to you, using it as hdmi are you still using it as a usb webcam or are you using the capture card as your webcam. The best advice I can give after trying it, start plugged in and maybe unplug and replug every 30 minutes, are you can try to take battery draining settings off, I.e. off gps, WiFi, voice controls , even hypersmooth if it’s on a tripod. That could help tremendously in my opinion :) let me know how you go

When I hook up the camera it is recognized(blue dot) but no video feed comes through in the preview section, firmware is updated, current version on os is in place, preferences are set to the go pro connect, and the camera shows " webcam " is in the display window. tried different ports enables. and still all I get she goo go in the pries window. Any thoughts?

    • @MrBlackReviews
      @MrBlackReviews  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is just for usbc connection not hdmi correct?? Assuming that is what you are saying I think that you should try to turn on the preview on the webcam software. Another typical problem might be a bad usbc cord or a slow usb 2.0 port on the computer and you may need to make sure it’s in a 3.0 . Hope that helps but feel free to keep me in the loop

    How can I play the clips straight onon my tv, so the whole family can watch what we just recorded? Or how what's actually being recorded, tried a HDMI to usb c cable but it doesn't seem to work, coming from the 4silver which had no problems doing either

    • @MrBlackReviews
      @MrBlackReviews  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately you need a gopro media mod to do that.... however some TVs have a usb and you might be able to connect usbc to the tv and use it like a hard drive. If that doesn’t work you could probably take the sd card out and put it to a card reader that goes to usb into your tv

    horrible recommendation
    Here's a better one, just buy a hero 7 black, has HDMI output without the need for that plastic junk of a housing called media mod which is too expensive to just add a hdmi out port to it :( it's what 100-150$ fuck that, also makes the camera bigger. And the microphone on the media mod, it sucks, my chinese microphone sounds wayyy better.
    Don't be dumb like me, just buy a hero 7 black, plug into camlink and voila. With the media mod you're also fucked on the software side. Because sometimes when I turn it on, it goes into storage mode via the USB C which is in the camera to power it on cuz the battery won't last on this thing and in storage mode, you CANNOT change to live preview. And I have to reconnect the cable on the camera itself, turn it on and off a few times until it goes into live preview to work as a webcam again.
    I fucked up, I assumed hero 8 would also have the hdmi output like the hero 7 did. Who would have thought they'd make you spend 150$ for a hdmi output and plastic.I didn't check, didn't think they'd go into uultra capitalist mode.

    • @MrBlackReviews

      I wouldn't put the 9 in the same category as m50 ... as far as trash, ya its not going to be as good of quality as large sensor DSLR cameras or mirrorless but for a tiny little action cam it does pack a punch. m50 looks good as a webcam, but its annoying that it turns off every 30 mins
