Dan. You are one of the most down to earth youtubers out there. You actually talk to your fans. Keep up the good work Dan. I've been here for 2-3 years now and I'm never disappointed.
Dude, you absolutely need to make sure your gas cylinders are chained to the wall. If that thing falls over and breaks the regulator off, its going to launch it like a rocket. Its extremely unsafe to leave them free standing with nothing to secure them. I don't want you to get hurt or have it destroy anything you own.
Seriously? This is a home setup, not an OSHA regulated shop. Chill. If he's moving the welder AT ALL he needs to be able to move the cylinder with it. If this were a professional shop, yeah, I'd be pulling out the CFR and fussing. But come on.
Jonathan Bell Then put the gas on a cart with the Welder. Who cares that this isn't a shop, it can still get knocked over and it can still seriously hurt someone. Just because it's at your home doesn't mean you can disregard all safety. I feel like you don't understand what happens if you break the regulator off a 3000 psi cylinder...
Jonathan Bell not being any a shop wont keep that bitch from turning into a rocket if it falls. Just because youre not in a shop doesnt mean you shouldn't try to avoid killing yourself. Especially doing something as easy as chaining a cylinder up lmao
On the contrary. I've been welding for 20 years. I've seen a few cylinders lose the valve. However, and try to stay with me here, maybe he doesn't have a cart with a cylinder mount? Should he get one? Yeah, probably. If he needs one, I'll send him one, no problem. But here's the deal, man. This is HIS home. This is HIS choice. This is HIS setup. What Dan does in HIS home with HIS setup is HIS choice. Did I notice the unsecured cylinder? Yep. Do I care? Nope. Quit looking through videos to nitpick. Watch the video, be happy the info is being put out there, and go about your merry way. I get that you want to be safety minded. I admire that. But if you feel the need to jump on someone about it, get a job as an OSHA inspector. You can make good money doing it.
Couple other things I think would be useful to you: 1. Digital Calipers. Makes marking points for holes much more accurate, as you can scribe the metal. I'm willing to bet they'll come in handy later in your builds, too. 2. A wire wheel. Specifically one on a large bench grinder (larger than the grinder you have now, like a 1/2 horsepower one). All that nasty black stuff on the square tubing could have been taken away with a wire wheel and the steel could have been nice and shiny. Also good to prep for painting AND WELDING. Especially if you ever get rusty steel. 3. Drill Press. I know you don't have that much room and it's one more thing to pack if you move again but they really come in handy for drilling larger holes. I also applaud you on your use of a step drill. Hole saws are also useful if you ever need bigger holes.
Dan I'm leaving for bootcamp soon to the USMC in I just wanted to say the past couple of years watching you has been a blast I'll be sending you some assets I come across while serving our country.
The gas bottles you always open all the way with oxygen/argon, reason being is because they have a positive seal in the completely closed and completely open positions. If they're in the middle they can leak. HOWEVER, for the FUEL gases (acetylene) just open it enough to get the pressure you need so you can shut it off quickly if need be.
This inspired me. I've built motorcycles before but I've never made my own frame. Think it's time to make some investments. The jig looks awesome man...can't wait to see the bike come together
You could have saved yourself all that sweat by leaving the rotisserie on the floor, tipping the frame uprights over to it to bolt it up, set it back upright, then fit the legs last. MUCH less hassle.
Dan, with the shielding gas for welding, the cylinders are usually an all the way open or all the way closed system, so if you only go half way, you'll be leaking gas. the shielding gas isn't flammable anyway so there isn't much to worry about.
Good shit man, big commitment. 800k people expecting this thing up and on the road pronto. Good luck. Also get a torque wrench, nothing like torquing everything perfectly to spec
Does Dan have a PO box? I heard that he didn't have a torque wrench and I have a new snap-on torque wrench laying around and would like dan to have it.
I may not be a subscriber for a long time like some, but I hope to look back to this vid seeing the jig first being built and knowing the end result worked out. Best of luck with this new series!
glad to know it's not just my dog who has to get right in the middle of everything when I'm working in the garage lol. love the video, looks like it will be a cool series, keep it up!
I don't know what to do with my hands! I had zero confidence in the Harley build and it turned out great. I wish you the best of luck on this build. Cheers
So I've been lookin at purchasing a motorcycle, crazy expensive, people also want a lot of money for old bikes that need a lot of work... I've been fiddling with the idea of building motorized bicycles... I think this would be way more satisfying build... subscribed and I'm going to follow your build... great idea for content
Holy shit, from the bottom of my heart, you're a fucking awesome human being Dan. I've dabbled in motorcycle mechanical stuff, took a week to change the chain and sprockets and another week to figure out issues that arose from that. So this series help help me learn how a motorcycle functions so maybe I won't be so afraid to do bigger jobs like fork seal replacements or tuning.
I feel like this is the first step for Dan to become a bike manufacturer, globally. Give it some time, he might ned a warehouse and start employing. This is gonna be great. Looking forward to it!!
Hey Dan. Oxygen tanks you open all the way to seat the valve to prevent leaks because they are higher pressure than Acetylene. Open Acetylene tanks 1.5 - 2 turns so you are able to close quickly in case of flashback.
Dude this was the coolest thing I've watched in a long time. I worked at a custom shop in the past and now I wanna just build everything in a home garage. Been thinking about a jig and all. (music was dope too haha)
Great stuff Dan, glad i found this channel. I'm diving into building a bike from the ground up. While i won't start making a frame, i'm gonna start with a xv920 frame and custom build around it. These videos are great to get a grasp on the important stuff. Thanks for the content!
Hi Dan, I am a certified professional welder, been at it for a long time. About your shielding gas, all tall bottles should be opened fully, as the valve itself is designed to seal while fully closed and opened, if not gas will escape around the stem. Acetylene can be opened one half to one full turn, as to be able to turn it off fast in case of emergency, and it will not leak. I advise you to be sure of this by asking at the place you get your gas.
not gonna lie, this is gonna take a lot of hard work and its really cool too see you putting in this much effort for some cool videos. i wouldnt be able to do this even if i tried. good luck with this man im excited to watch it progress! :D
I always knew TH-cam paid well, but this is insane. ZX10R, tuned Corvette and now this. I'm envious that I've spent the past three years of my life at University and not becoming a TH-camr ahaha.
Also just a helpful tip when drilling through tube is always try to plan ahead so you aren't drilling through the seam of the tube. It is harder to drill through, so try and make sure the seam is like on the side where its not in the way
Dan my birthday is 4 days And its bout to be lit But a reply from U Will make it even for fun For both us Keep doing what ur doing Buddy ur coming a long way love u man Ur like an older brother on youtube to me💓🇺🇸💯

Seth Miller THIS. MAKE SURE THAT BITCH IS SECURE AS FUCK

Dan looked at chase and proudly said "Oh you're fixing a salvaged bike? That's cute."
stumbled on this after getting the idea of building my own motorcycle (used to have an 89 shadow 600 and an 05 zx6r 636)

Dan is making an expensive ass build... while I don't even have a dollar to my name.. MUST BE NICE DAN!!
The cost of building SHOULD be less than buying... But we'll see
depending on how much you value your own time.
Since I dont have a regular job, not much LOL
Get a job,or suck some Peter kim!
This inspired me. I've built motorcycles before but I've never made my own frame. Think it's time to make some investments. The jig looks awesome man...can't wait to see the bike come together

Lay flat. Install legs loose. Leave parallel. Tip upright. Kick legs perpendicular. Tighten.
Much Respect Dan!!!
This set you apart from all the other motor vloggers.

Glad I can help. Its something I've wanted to do for years and I had this like weird moment where... I was like "Oh fuck, I have to do this"
Hey dan
Dan, with the shielding gas for welding, the cylinders are usually an all the way open or all the way closed system, so if you only go half way, you'll be leaking gas. the shielding gas isn't flammable anyway so there isn't much to worry about.
Now this has me excited! Will you be keeping this bike or selling it once its completed?
do you seriously comment on all videos just to promote your channel?
probably keep the first one till I'm sure it's safe lol
Do It With Dan understandable!
Dan you did a great job can't wait to see you build the bike

Bryce Ausen I mean if you're just giving away a 400$ wrench I'll take it
Austin Haley I got it really cheap actually I've spent thousands of dollars at snap-on so they give me a pretty good deal.

+Matt Casey me
I may not be a subscriber for a long time like some, but I hope to look back to this vid seeing the jig first being built and knowing the end result worked out. Best of luck with this new series!

Give this man a torque wrench! And this dog a treat!
Honestly looking forward to seeing this play out. Good on you for doing what you love man. Ooohhh Billy!
Hey Dan. Oxygen tanks you open all the way to seat the valve to prevent leaks because they are higher pressure than Acetylene. Open Acetylene tanks 1.5 - 2 turns so you are able to close quickly in case of flashback.
