Can't believe how good of a teacher Craig is. Never laughs at her for not knowing something that a mechanic would consider basic. Never gets frustrated or impatient with her while she works her way through things. Never gets mad at her for making a mistake. These are all exceptionally rare qualities in mechanical instructors!

Doodle, On the righty tightly, lefty loosy goes, think of the face of a clock while looking down on the head of the bolt. On the clock face start at the 12:00, moving toward the 1:00 is right, toward 11:00 is left.
Doing your own maintainence is very satisfying, your sense of accomplishment greatly increases your confidence in your abilities. Just as you have done learning not just to ride but took lessons from people that can help you improve your riding.

Point the thumb on your right hand in the direction you want the screw or bolt to go, your fingers will be curled in the direction you should turn. Only works on right-handed threads. Left-hand threads would be the exact opposite.

Wow...Craig, Doodle, Sean and Dan in the same video... So cool! TH-cam mashup is a great idea. Love to see more mashups. Good job Doodle learning how to turn some wrenches... Great investment that will pay off forever with motorcycles, cars, houses, etc. Definitely you should carry at least a few tools on your bike if you're doing long trips. I've had battery cables become loose while in a long trip with my wife that prevented the bike from starting; stranding us at a gas station. Using a Leatherman Wave multi tool I got the seat off, tightened the loose battery cable bolts and we were on our way. God bless. Hope you have a good and safe trip on that Harley and your police training goes well.

Doodle and Craig, I love you guys.. both of you..
Doodle, when I learned about fixing engines it change the way i drive and ride completely.. it's not just about turning the throttle.. it's what happens inside the engine when you twist the throttle that actually matters.. much respect to you my sister.. it's not anyone who would try to learn this kind of thing.. it costs guts..
and Craig, my brother, the way you teased Doodle, i wish i had a teacher with such a sense of humor.. then I would probably have learned better.. you are a great guy for doing that for her.. cos understanding engines makes you actually drive and ride with more caution. Much respect you brother..
Great episode guys.. I love it.. thanks..

It’s so good to see him passing his knowledge on. It always makes me happy when I find a younger person interested in wrenching and I’m always MORE than happy to teach them what I know and have learned in the last 30+ years of wrenching. Too many younger kids are just lazy and have no interest in being self reliant. They’d rather just pay somebody to work on their vehicles. It’s truly sad that there’s a HUGE chunk of the younger population that can’t even check their oil or change a tire. Or hell even drive a manual transmission.

But... Im still chocked that so many people in America can't drive a manual!! The whole world drives both manual and auto, America is the only country in the world where so many people can't drive.. Its shocking and ill never understand why it is so hard for them to learn..
My dad was driveing manual at 8yrs old, i was around 10yrs when he tossed me behind the steeringwheel and within 10-15min i was driveing without stalling at every start/stop. Its not rocket science to drive.
I live in Denmark, so my english is not perfect.

"Too many younger kids are just lazy and have no interest in being self reliant. "
Oh sorry, too busy working my full time job, while working a part time job and being in the reserve military because my Gen X parents spent their 20s smoking weed and drinking instead of investing in their future to ensure I wouldn't grow up in poverty with an uphill battle to move up. I would love to wrench more, but no time and no garage makes it difficult for more involved tasks. The most I can get away with in an apartment complex carport is changing the oil on my motorcycle, anything more extensive I risk having a boomer ratting me out to the office again. I prefer to have a local shop work on my car to ensure it works since I NEED it to work, my motorcycle I handle what I can because if it doesn't work for some reason, I can make it to work still.

I’ve never considered what it might be like to ride something you didn’t understand the workings of till I saw this video. And to be honest, I’ve got to give Doodle a lot of credit, it takes considerable bravery to set out on the long trips she rides with only her former limited knowledge. I love the way Doodle is eager to learn and give it a go. For me, who started riding in the early 70’s, being able to work on your own bike is just a part of being a Biker.
Back in the 70’s, a friend of mine helped his GF (who was a nurse) do a complete rebuild of her car engine when it needed it. She asked him to teach her and she was a great student. I’ll never forget the looks on guys faces when she would rattle off all the mods they included in the rebuild and why they used the cams they did, etc. It was awesome! As far as I know, only one mechanic tried to pull the wool over her eyes and she played dumb just long enough for him to put his meck in the noose, then she pulled it tight. Gently, but firmly. She said he turned a shade of green when she set him straight, which would’ve been fun to watch. Love to see ladies learn how to wrench.

On most non-Harleys you have to remove the fuel tank just to replace an air filter, what's up with that? And don't even get me started on changing plugs...

Great video, love Doodle’s channel also. Police training is a great goal. Ryan F9 also did the police motorcycle training course a while back in Canada. (There’s a video on FortNine about it.) It’s a gruelling 11 day long course, training alongside police moto officers. (They have some spots each year reserved for civilians.)
    Keep up the great content!
