- I once again teamed up with Eli Kassis and the real LSV (Luis Salvatto) to defend our Cube Champions title. We battled against Sandy's Dogs, as they tried to overthrow us and take the throne.

Where some old engine cards have been outshone by recent printings, Recurring Nightmare has stood the test of time as a truly messed up card.
I think the Ziatora's Proving Ground in pack 1 was worth taking to turn both fetches into 4 color lands. All 4 non-blue trilands were in pack 1, and missing out on all 4 of them seems rough for a 4 color deck.

It's fine that it draws 2 cards it gives -1 toughness. Best skullclamp performance I've seen in a while.
Wall of Roots was insane in all of these games. It often allowed another strong play the same turn it came down allowing you to quickly stabilize or jump ahead. Completely stopped Kaldra in game 1 as well.
It does such a good job of holding onto the initiative
Why didn't it get exiled when the germ with Kaldra Compleat damaged it?
@@basdejong5494 because it died to lethal damage before the exile trigger resolved.
@basdejong5494 Kaldra exiles when it doesn't kill the creature in combat, such as if something were to have indestructible or be larger than jt. When it kills it, the creature just goes to the graveyard.
Giving up three red sources to cast M&B with for Adeline was such an unexpected decision
Yeah, that hurt to watch.
It was basically picking Adeline over M&B which seems...not right.
I felt the same way initially but was convinced when he explained the choice. Adeline is a busted wincon in and of itself. Deck's mana is great without the red splash. And Adeline is extra busted with Skullclamp.
yeah, on the time for the choice Karakas + Adeline + Skull Clamp was the best choice for consistency and color than M&B.
LSV has definitely lost some games recently to drawing the wrong color of lands in 3+ color decks. He’s also hatedrafting some in these, which means his mana is worse than it would be in a MTGO cube draft. I’m not surprised to see him swing the pendulum a little toward casting all your spells.

@@Kumagoro42 People are still playing RecSur in Pre-Modern. Such a cool deck, but $200 for each Survival of the Fittest is out of my budget 😭
It's especially amazing when you have open deck lists and know if there's a counter to be worried about.
That pack with Loran Adeline and the two red lands was very interesting. Really felt like that was the "am I playing minsc and boo" pack. If you had grabbed the plateu and the stomping ground it definitely felt runnable, but once you went with Loran you basically had to double down on cutting Boo.
There’s no draft that LSV wont allow M&B to derail.

2016 LSV would have been really happy to start Cryptic Command, Force of Will, Fractured Identity, Force of Negation.

2016 LSV wasnt playing in a highly competitive team setting. Ignoring the cards printed since then, please keep in mind this isnt a random qeue, and isnt singles.
Glad to see Karmic Guide do some nice work, especially in the presence of skullclamp and recurring nightmare it really had some time to shine.

Really liked the decision to bench M&B, I think that chasing raw power over consistency is the only real hole in LSV's game.
Not that I'm really qualified to critique a player much better than me.
I imagine that's a conscious choice to reach for fun builds when the stakes are low. He's usually more conservative during the showdowns or in the Arena open, for instance.

17:12 The way I look at this pick is Adiline V.S Minsc & Boo not Adiline V.S Stomping Ground. That Stomping Ground gives you enough red to play Minsc without any mountains and I don't think this deck is consistent enough with 1 drop green cards, double whites, and 4 black cards if it has to play mountains. I think the Minsc is better for this deck than the Adiline too.
Came here to say the same thing; having watched all of his drafts here, I know he would never in a million years take Adelline over M&B but he essentially did it here by proxy
Parallax Wave NEVER misses!
Would have loved to start with all those amazing blue cards personally but I mostly play regular vintage cube and 8-man pods so I don’t really know how to adjust the pick order for 6-man team draft.
But in our vintage cube (basically same as the one on MTGO) blue being open is usually the best lane to go to protect from all the others trying to do broken stuff 😇
I guess in 6-man team drafts more decks end up midrange ish and that creatures matter more than in 8-man regular drafts so I can understand skullclamp being better in this format for example but I still love going for combo and broken stuff over the aggro or midrange dude-decks. Will be interesting to see if Slax beats everyone with an insane blue deck 🤩

Recurring Nightmare decks are my favorite thing. This was so much fun to watch.
Really enjoy these competitive team drafts vs the usual cube stuff for the tighter drafting. Lots more reading the table.
I think the open decklists was fun, I liked you being able to know which play was best and not having to play around all possibles unknowns
Skull Clamp is rocketing up the pick order in my estimation. Monarchy and Initiative have significantly changed the Vintage Cube meta.

I apologize if this has been asked and answered in previous videos. (quick aside, thank you so much for the great content !) Is there a path to becoming part of the discord / draft group ? Or is it friends / need to know somebody thing ? Either is ok, just thought i would ask. I'm nobody special - never played in a PT or anything. Probably like most viewers, i'm an enfranchised player, a bit of an end boss at my LGS (small pond), i do have most the cards (except 1 ring, probably a few others) and am comfortable exporting. It would be cool if there was maybe a b-group where if you were on the winning team 5 times in a row or 7 of 10 or something, you got to join the a-team ?!

I played your boy Alphafrog in a LOTR draft the other night. He had a pretty spicy deck but I eventually won the match and ended up going 3-0. Always cool to be matched up with people that I see from TH-cam or at least recognize the name.

why didn’t kaldra exile LSV’s blockers? Am I missing something?
Kaldra Compleat's exile trigger only happens if it deals the creature non-lethal damage, since it's a triggered ability rather than a replacement effect
LSV and not opening power name a better duo.

Why would you first pick a minsc and boo and not play it afterwards?? you had 2 chances of picking the Stomping Ground for the free fixing with the fetches and decided to take a medium card in Adeline?. Sometimes I really don't get some of the picks.

wasn't the wall of roots in exile after blocking the kaldra compleat germ? how did karmic guide get it back...
It's weird, if the creature is defeated by combat damage from Kaldra's first strike it doesn't get exiled. If the creature is still in play when the trigger happens it would exile it. So basically if you block with something that would survive Kaldra's damage it exiles it, just to make it harder to tangle with.

the misplay was not not playing razorverge thicket on turn one, but playing a forest instead of a swamp turn 1... 1. swamp, 2 thicket, 3 scrubland should have been the order

G1 is Kaldra Compleat bugged? The Wall of Roots should have been exiled, and curbing how much Recurring Nightmare could do.
I think it only exiles things that don't die to the damage.

ah nevermind. the exile clause only works if the blocking creature survives combat (and is still on the battlefield when the trigger resolves). That is kinda confusing
I know the answer is probably just mana cost and speed, but why doesn't Parallax Wave see play in Eternal formats. it feels like it wins nearly every game it's played in Cube.

I would’ve taken the RG land over Adeline so hard. At first I was shocked but the more I think about the pick the more I realize how hard of a decision that was. I value lands way too highly in general, so maybe I’m just wrong.

What happened to LSV valuing blue? It feels like he is just wildly passing a ton of blue cards nowadays.
I think it's a combination of better players not letting lsv just scoop up busted blue decks, and the crazy power creep in non-blue cards in recent years.
It's a team draft thing, if people think you'll go blue. They will try to bait you into blue and cut it off. Knowing this, sometimes it's better to play the opposite.

The underrating of pod is horribly real. It was a real contender compared to paralax wave, a card that might be better in the end, but is horribly overrated here.
