I live about 30 minutes away and go there occasionally to shop. It is very clean, all landscaping is neat, and I like holding doors for people and hearing, “Thank you, young man.” I am 58😀 Also, it ain’t cheap to buy a house there, so there’s that.

Houses are around 200,000.00 to a million. The average is in the 300s. People who have owned a home for years, up north, can pay cash for houses in The Villages after they sell their other house.

I watched another TH-cam video where the guy outlined some of the financial issues. With so many hurricanes in the past couple of years, home insurance is skyrocketing and over a dozen insurance companies have pulled out of the state altogether. Property taxes also escalating tho likely still a lot less than in the northeast. Also if you haven’t lived in a community with HOA rules and regs be sure you know all the power they have if you step out of line. Myself I’d never live there. The guy in this video said people who think they made a mistake moving there are heading to the communities in the coastal Carolinas.

We have lived in The Villages for 14 years. We enjoy the safety it provides. I can walk around the neighborhood with no worries . We have Community Watch that drives thru on a regular schedule. Folks watch out for each other. People wave or stop to say hello as they drive their golf carts You çan drive your golf cart to stores, restaurants and medical buildings. Weather is perfect ,no snow or sleet . Yes there are bad apples ,that is the same everywhere you may live. We have several fire stations,a hospital and police. The fact that there are over 3,000 clubs allows seniors to keep mind and body busy and healthy. Don’t forget the many golf courses at fantastic low fee.

I can't say enough positive things. I live in Brownwood and it's a ball! If you're bored here in The Villages then you're a tree Stump because if you can think of it, it's here to do. The softball fields are amazing w 150 teams, polo, all manner of pool sports, court sports, archery, shooting ranges, wood shops, RC car and boat race facilities, miles and miles of walking trails, literally anything you want is here and you make life here what you want it to be. We bought a house in the Villages last year- it’s wonderful. There are lower priced homes at the North end, and the neighbors are warm, friendly and helpful.
People stop on their golf carts and while walking to say hello or have a conversation.
I’ve “heard” that the farther south you go, the less friendly people are but I’m not sure if that’s true or not.
It feels very safe here- like the rest of the USA used to be before the 2000’s (in most cities).
We have NEVER EVER seen anything inappropriate here- but we also don’t go looking for it.
I’m sure with just about any place on earth, if you’re looking for something, you’ll find it eventually.
The only thing you have to be mindful of are the drivers, unfortunately. Since we’ve been here there have been a few fatal accidents involving pedestrians and golf carts.
We happened to stumble upon this place almost by accident and we never thought in a million years we would be able to buy here, but we could and did.
I honestly wouldn’t want to live anywhere else in the country with the way things are going.
Lots and lots of retired military here as well- so if you’re retiring or a grown army brat like myself, you’ll LOVE IT.

Then good luck trying to find someone who will help your fix your home if damaged. In fact, every homeowners insurance company still in FL said if a hurricane come to the state in the next 3 years they cannot pay out. Also since your Governor kicked out all illegals, I hope you are ready to step to do the job yourself, since conseratives keep screaming illegals take other people jobs. So interesting such a narrow view 0f 55 plUS communities . . Age is zero factor when you have a sizeable population there will be a fringe of wild ones..but that all the more makes this community reflective of human nature. Compare the % of incidents to any other smaller city with 132k population...perhaps the same. What is extraordinary is that all inclusive community from ease to exercise plus shops all in one community facilitates one thing..allows the elderly to connect and have friends plus ease of groceries and other needs. Remember the elderly do not want to be isolated or have family have to care for them. They want independence if possible and this community its meets those needs. To try and compare with any other community you totally miss the purpose as they living their last years of their lives...why not enjoy living in a community that brings them such joy and connections...all share same fate ... last road of their lives. Why not dance and laugh connect with new friends,,such joy so obvious as compared to living in other communities that is a challenge to navigate traffic just to get groceries. Lumping the elderly with all ages is to miss the purpose...achieving independence and connections with others is key. Traditional communities do not offer and places pressure on the elderly just to survive. The Villages provides an ease of living and respects independence ... so important for them. I applaud this community for attention to every detail to meet their needs.

This was a really great video- and I've seen a lot of videos at this point about The Villages. My take is that I previously wanted to retire in a quiet country cabin to retreat to. Now that my husband and I have heard of the Villages, we're obsessed with this idea of making lots of friends, joining countless clubs with similar interests, keeping active and healthy trying out all kinds of sports and activities. If you think about it, this is a utopia because you can stay fit and healthy and have fun while enjoying social activities as well. If we would live in a quiet country cabin who knows if we'd be as active or social (probably not). These are #1 goals to age well and not be isolated and lonely and always going to the doctor for multiple health reasons. We're going to retire in about 10 years, and very much looking forward to the possibility of living at The Villages.

I wonder how many negative commenters have ever been to the Villages. I do not live there but I live close by and I have relatives living there.
It has expensive living and not so expensive living properties. If you are happy with being an active senior it is a paradise.
The place is self sufficient has everything any one could want in living an active life style. I go there to listen to what I love, live music. There is several different choices of Locations and music styles.
The speed limit is 35mph most every where. That is why the Golf carts are best. They are also cheap transportation and mostly avoids traffic. Though many think the rules of the road does not apply to Golf Carts. Not true. You will get a ticket for breaking the rules just like auto drivers.
The developers are making a fortune of course. That's what they do, but they are also making a lifestyle that is appealing to the older but younger class.
If you are curious it is easy to go there and even stay for a short period and check it out. Of course they will try to sell you on the place. That's what they do.
I am a firm believer in make up your' own mind. Take little stock in what other people tell you about anything. It can be a paradise. Over 35 square miles of living the life and always expanding.
I repeat just about any thing you could ever want is there for you!

The villages bought up almost all the cattle and farming land in our county and displace the native citizens. The infrastructure is not there, so the traffic is horrendous. What used to be a quick 5 minute drive to town is now 30 minutes. When the Villages began to build in Sumter County, a promise was made to the citizens of Sumter (Sum-ter), there is no "N" in Sumter, County that they would only build to a certain point in the county, but they have gone way beyond that point. In fact they started in the north end of the county and are now buying land and building in the south end of the county. They have taken over the government and silenced the voices of the people that have lived there all their lives. Everything that takes place in the county now is controlled by the Villages. The old towns are being consumed and replaced by the Villages with no concern for the people that are native to the county. Sumter County was a quite peaceful place with low crime. It was a farming and cattle area. It was a great place to raise a family. It is sad to see the destruction of so many beautiful oak trees, rolling pastures, as well as, the precious southern communities.

Organizations and companies that build places like the Villages or subdivisions in general, theme parks, shopping malls, etc have to get all sorts of permissions from local and state governments do they not? A lot of what you're criticizing them for is to be expected by that type of organization/company. That's what they do. The real blame for the changing landscape though lies at the feet of your local government authorities/councils for allowing them to do it. If they didn't give them the ability to buy up all that land without restriction based on some type of zoning or building permits then they couldn't do it. I'd be more upset with them than anybody.

As a senior, probably THE thing that bothers me the most about The Villages is that it is typically American in that many people in this country can never seem to stop gorging on a " good thing ". It's the equivalent of living as a Costco customer in every possible way. It's (admittedly of necessity) a HELL OF A LOT of a good thing. I live in northern Florida and I actually like the randomness. The ability to find farm fresh vegetables a mere 20-30 minutes from my kitchen. My sister and bil live an hour or two south of The Villages in a community built around a golf course. No houses that conform to " A Look ", no endless facilities for the latest fads in sports, and yet, being a senior oriented community, few children. To me, The Villages comes across as a more regimented community than the one used as the setting for the British tv show The Prisoner.

Yet alot beyond me, us all, was involved with that happening to me. Must see me as outrageously strong, but I think that forget that I'm human, dealing with dehumanized egomaniac narcissistic blindness snowflakes. It's all because suppose that people grow up, mature independently on their own. No, remain the same way, including about the cliques behaviors. Need too much social reassurances of ownselves. My ex husband and I used to talk about that too. Marriages that need too much social life to be able to stand each other, and stay together. He stated that himself, but then didn't practice what he preached about too many types of topics. Eventually that wears down no matter how much love them, because invalidated all marital vows, because I obeyed everything that he told me that he didn't like a wife to be like. Seems all of that didn't matter, only looking like I was twenty five years old for the rest of my life, is what mattered. Shallow superficial narcissism blindness hatefulness towards me ongoing destructive effects here. Well, you know what, my mind matters more than anything else to God. Anything out to destroy me, is mentally blinded, and out to destroy ownselves in return. Easy, through own egomaniac narcissism dehumanized agenda, with the added plus of the ongoing effects of the universe upon Earth.

I live 30 minutes from the villages… We go down to Restaurants and free Music Nights. It truly beautiful and they have the BEST Medical Offices🩺 around. It’s demanded!
Republicans as “Regular people” tend to have the most “honest” wealth.
So they enjoy their wealth and demand the best! And will pay for that!
They tend to be happy positive people. (Unlike the other side) walk down any street you can tell the positive people from the Negative. Trump supporters tend to be very positive happy people.😊

@@StreetN1ckel There are some people who would fit in very well living in the villages but I am not one of them. I own my own house outright and I pay very low taxes so for me why live in a place like that? I like freedom. Freedom to do with my yard the way I want it, also the inside of the house. Also there isn’t very much around in the area unless you like Disney, crowded beaches and all that stuff. There may be many lakes in the area but you can’t swim in them because of alligators and other dangerous animals. You get cabin fever in the summer.

@@lawriefoster5587 I have worked in Indiana and Florida as a LEO. From my observation and experience I have observed that the democratic controlled cities have higher crime rates. We have been to The Villiages on four occasions and enjoyed it. our only mistake was not buying there about one year ago. Now we are priced out of the housing market there. People are leaving the high crime cities up north and invading Florida. The result is driving up home prices in Florida.

Born in South Philly and sorry to see what has happened to a once-great city. Mayor and DA don't care about crime. Kensington is the largest open-air heroin market on the east coast. Police told not to bother gangs of atv's roaming the streets. Carjackings and murders abound. Even the Northeast around usually safe places like Tacony are getting bad now. Only safe places still left are Rittenhouse Sq., Chestnut Hill, and near the Main Line.
