Update: Bayer Leverkusen are Bundesliga Champions! Bayern’s 11 year domestic dominance has been decimated by Xabi Alonso’s unbelievable Leverkusen side. Amazing story. One of the all time greats 👏
Him and His best friend Arteta were considered coaches on the pitch during their playin years. Obviously their brilliant football iQ translated well into the bench.
As a player, he played for Bigger teams than Arteta, the quality of his teammates were great. Arteta was a Magician at Rangers and Everton not to forget he was instrumental at Arsenal that had a great crop of quality too. He was a great member of that squad alongside Ozil, Santi carzola and Alexis who all worked their Socks off to end Arsenal Trophy 🏆 drought. That said he also had been a name since his days at PSG
Insane to think that Xabi may still prevent Harry Kane getting a major trophy because this start by Xabi's team is no flash on the pan, its the real deal.
Xabi Alonso is destined to manage a big football club in the future. But I would love to see him stay at Bayer Leverkusen for 2-3 seasons to at least leave a mark on the Bundesliga. They definitely need depth and they can perhaps break Bayern's dominance. It would better if Alonso wins a silverware and then leave for a bigger role.
Former Midfield players come coach read and apply football tactics easy and on point coz their roles as players helped the play defense and mid at the same time which for me is the engine of any football .
It's just crazy, that this team shows best start in history of club, even better that Early 2000-s Leverkusen with likes of Ballack, Lucio, Berbatov and others. Just shows how good of a project they have, with likes of Wirtz, Frimpong, Boniface, Grimaldo, Hofmann and some other good players they have
Leverkusen were not nearly as bad as is being made out before Xabi came in. They had been great the year before under Seoane but they had a particularly unlucky run, with Wirtz injured and Schick completely fallen of his bike (which is not an expression that exists, but you get what I mean). Xabi did not have to raise a team from the rubble, he came into a team that had a much better ground structure than it may appear from their league position at the time. That's not to say he is not doing a great job. He is, that is abundantly clear. What I'm saying is that he did not turn a soapbox into a Porsche. The car that was in the garage was a decent fast sports car already but after it had hit a mean bump in the road its motor was hiccuping and spluttering badly. He sorted that out. He had Wirtz coming back and recruitment has been ace this transfer window. So yeah give Alonso all the credit he deserves but there's credit due to others at Leverkusen, too.
What Rolfes is doing with the club is at least as impressive as Alonso. So many smart transfers (Grimaldo, Hofmann, Boniface, etc) and vital contract extensions (Frimpong, Palacios, Tapsoba, etc)
Yes, i can agree with all comments here and just to add it, as a Leverkusen fan i thought that Seoane did a really great job before, like you have already shown. I go even so far to say that if Wirtz hasn't been injured, Seoane would still be the coach. Wirtz and Schick were one of the top duos in the european top 5 leagues. Surely not on that level as Xavi, but Seoane did better than every coach for years at Leverkusen and was really unlucky with Wirtz and the bad start in the season. So despite all deservwd praises to Xavi i got already a feeling in a few games, that Lev has still issues when Wirtz isn't playing and if he gets injured again for a longer period, we will see how Xavi will deal with that
Xabi Alonso become a champion in bundesliga is remarkable wow I never thought xabi will write history as such in the top level for just 18months and for the fact that his side unbeaten till champions unbelievable I believe he is the next pep to dominate
Im a liverpool fan and loved xabi alonso when he played at Liverpool but his rebuild of bayern leverkusen is just one of the best ive ever seen he will be one of the best coaches in the world (loved the vid btw keep it up)
He's an amazing game reader during his playing days and quick to perceive danger and could easily intercept it by giving instructions or making the block by himself which isn't a good thing for opponents
I'm a Bayern Munich fan and I have nothing but admiration for how Leverkusen is currently so good and how well it harmonizes and works with Xabi and Leverkusen and I have the highest respect. From 17th place to 6th place and this season I even see it on a par with Bayern, it's just crazy, crazy what Rolfes and Such a jump to one of the most sought-after trainers in the world is crazy and watching them and how dominant they are is crazy. I watched the game against Köln recently and Leverkusen were really strong and I still had the feeling that they didn't show everything, haha and it was 3-0 for Leverkusen. It's just crazy and I hope they manage to be consistently strong this season and it won't be like back then when they really had the chance to win a treble but ultimately Schalke (DFB Cup), BVB (Bundesliga Championship) and Real (Champions League Final) they won the cups back then even though Leverkusen had a strong season that was ultimately wasted because some players got injured in the Final phase
Your presentation is one of the best I've ever heard,,, magnificent 🎉🎉🎉 Xabi Alonso to coach Madrid will be a historical thing, I'm 💯% certain it will happen soon.
