I think there has been something lost in translation about what de Zerbi call 'solutions'. From what I get from the video author, it seems like he interprets them akin to mathematical solutions 'if this happens do that', but in Italian 'soluzioni' has also the meaning of 'alternatives ', aka de Zerbi tries to give the men on the pitch a series of alternatives always ready to be exploited, so not really a mechanical series of passages in response to the opponent, but the chance of the players to freely express themselves because of the abundant alternatives of play given by occupying the spaces well.
100% agree I also don’t find that his system is as rigid or mechanical as described in the video. The build up phase certainly is but there’s lots of room for individual creativity and flair from the wingers and forwards to choose how they attack
It's the same here in Argentina when we talk about coaches or teachers giving you solutions "soluciones" is about making your team or pupils to have more tools and ways to solve a problem, more knowledge, know more about what they're doing, unleash creativity, etc. Also I remember watching him in his first season at Sassuolo and just knew he had something special bcs of how well tactically but also creative his teams are. I watched every Sassuolo game for lots of seasons and I'm just a fan of AS Roma. The rationality of positional play concepts applied to other styles of play in italian or south american teams (like Scaloni) is less about rational decisions on the pitch and more about having more tools and ways to break the opposition defence, instead of having to rely that much on each individual player taking the best optimal decision for a pass or a long ball which at the end kills creativity, dribbling, one-twos and all what players like to do which is just play and having fun.
This is great to know, thanks. It’s clear De Zerbi, and other positional coaches, aim to give their players a feeling of comfort so they can express themselves, as you say. de zerbi coaches an exciting brand of football. he makes his way up the pitch in layers with the third man facing forward and playing an aggressive pass or dribble. it breaks defenses down real quick.
His system actually works with other coaches as well. In the Bundesliga Sebastian Hoeneß, who visited De Zerbi to learn from him, managed to get VfB Stuttgart to 3rd place with virtually the same play style (they fought against relegation last season). So his tactic might not only be limited to him but an actual way of playing football for other teams/coaches as well.
I like the final chapter however I think it’s completely misunderstood when De Zerbi mentions “solutions”. The ultimate aim is to create players who are capable of making decisions. It’s not as rigid as is suggested. There’s still lots of room for individuality. For Example, Pascal Gross plays very differently from Billy Gilmour even when given the same role.
because of guys like him, Pep, Klopp, Cruyff, Mourinho and many others I still love football. Maybe someday I'll gonna can work with this game and build my own history, in my right proportions.

@@C_98. Honestly i agree on what you wrote, i just did not get it right the first time. And yes defending and defensive style of play and counter attack are also an art. And their masters also deserve credit. I think the future will be more repetoir like, instead of single strategies. Switching Taktics depending on the opponent, on the score, reacting and interacting. But this requires a lof from the players to. And it is hard to become an expert in everything. Van Gaal, Tuchel and Nagelsmann, are tactical masterminds to, but they are to rigid. One extreme is like Roman armies agains the Savages, or The English against the Scots. Individually the latter where stronger, but collectively not. However how to make a organized roman army style team with some wild Scotsmann? The art is to find a good compromizePlayers want to be free and creative with individual actions. While high level structures give less freedom. All coaches you mentioned find good ways to do this, with completly different styles.
Excellent done....thank you.....reminds me of a quote I read somewhere: "Playing football with your feet is one thing, but playing football with your heart is another. To some, football is the best sport in the world. To others, it is their world."
I'm totally for this football philosophy. Organisation and not reliance on single individuals is the secret of any collective success. Football or not. Very pleasent to watch and I guess to play
12:39 idk if it was intentional but to pick Marlon when talking about the restriction necessary to De Zerbi's game when Marlon just recently joined Diniz's Fluminense which is appointed by many as the "opposite philosophy" is genious
Great video, really enjoyed it. As a Brighton fan, I do agree with the last part, however. De Zerbi is not the only protagonist in Brighton’s success. While he has “automated” our build up play to an extent, players such as Mitoma, Enciso (when he’s fit), Adingra, Fati, Joao Pedro and so on are all encouraged to be brave as individual players. They take chances in the final third, using instinct and individual brilliance to create chances. So I don’t feel that De Zerbi is the ONLY star of the show. That being said, incredible coach and he’s brought Brighton to a whole new level, absolutely love him
De Zerbi needs to learn with Guardiola's Barcelona: automatism and patters for game construction it's necessary, but, on the final third, you need give more freedom to the players: the MSN strike (Messi, Suarez and Neymar) with Iniesta and Xavi in the middle was that!
His football is how I've been playing fifa for years. I never thought it would be possible to play like that irl. When playing with friends they kept saying you're just countering but stats always showed I was in possession more than them. For some reason tho I could only do it with italy properly. 433 was my base but I could quickly shift to a 3241, a 3313 or a 3232 when I had to go all out if needed
This guy makes football much more enjoyable and fun to be part of. I would love to adopt his policies and a little bit from other top managers to develop my own philosophies
you make the best football documentaries/youtube essays you there mate. wonderfully told and very clear a pleasure to watch. Always come away even more fascinated and in awe of the individuals you talk about. none more than De Zebri.
Do you think this rigid structure will help simplify the game for Ansu and help him not trying so much to over do things he isn't capable of, and in turn get back his confidence? Or does it take away individualistic flares that Ansu has been trying regain since his injuries and in turn eliminating what made him the type of player he was/wants to be and perhaps, won't be successful without a system in the future? Either way, I just hope he continue to develop well and return to Barca soon.
he chose brighton himself and he seems like a smart player, i think he went there for specific things and felt confident he could get something out of it.
I like most of your videos but this one really raised the bar, especially at the end. Felt also like you were echoing some of Jamie Hamilton’s laments on positionalism.
De Zerbi’s system is formidable. I love to see. I think its very important that football keeps on producing talents such as Cristiano, Messi, Neymar, Mbappe…. Always fun to watch these kind of players mess around with machine teams. Like De Zerbi, they are protagonists but in the field. Love the video❤
I'd love to see him back at Milan, his childhood club. He talked about dreaming of coaching the team last summer. It would be awesome to have a boyhood fan coaching us instead of the idiot Interisti we have now. Plus, the squad seems tailor-made for his style of play.
he is absolutely one of the best coaches who knows football, but we must not forget that in the boring Spanish La Liga, referees are an extra tough opponent when it comes to being a coach for Barcelona, where the coach needs to win over both Madrid Mafia referees and opposing teams, which is very difficult to control in such Madrid Mafia controlled La Liga
I pray and hope Ineos gets De Zerbi as United next Manager before its too late.....❤ De Zerbi will help build United great again and develop players into great potential to win something together.❤
De Zerbi is likely to share his place in history with the likes of Biesla, a great manager with a unique style of play, yet not viewed in the same way of how a Pep, Fergie, Mourinho, Klopp or Ancelloti would be feted.
Great video - I love De Zerbi's football, but I'm curious to see how he can evolve now, with PL teams becoming more pragmatic against Brighton. There's been some spectacular scorelines when he's got it 'wrong' and maybe a need to modify his rest defence or structure. Or this may be a personnel issue with injuries. Your 'contradictions' part was thought provoking, part of me feels this highly structured attacking play is a necessity against rigid defensive systems, keen to exploit the slightest error. Counter attacking is such a potent method of scoring in the modern game. I do understand the point on diminished spontaneity, but this feels reflective of how the how the whole game has developed - data and video analysis gives everyone a better understanding of their opponents. The margins are finer too - most PL players are now supreme athletes alongside being technically gifted.
Mate. So many people are covering De Zerbi. Emery is doing amazing and there's no analysis videos of your quality about his Villa team. Top 3 in terms of results since he took over. Destroyed Brighton when they met and still nobody is looking at that? Pleaaaaase do an Emery Villa analysis
At the other end of the scale there's steve cooper at forest. bottom of the championshup, gets in a bunch of loan players and gets promotion with good football, the club buy 30 players and are clear favourites for the drop and it's his first season in the prem and only 3 years as a manager. Has to be pragmatic, totally change his philosophy and gel a bunch of strangers to fight for each other and they stay up reasonably confortably. Now he's building his third side in 3 seasons.

Watched a few videos with the rumours. This is hands down the best one.
Good training coach..am currently the youth coach in my country Kenya and am a vivid follower of your trainings.
Just imagine De Zerbi as Barça coach and Xabi alonso as Real Madrid coach... el clasico would be on another level 🥵
So true
Roberto will come to Milan next year mark my words

In your dream
This probably the greatest football related video i've ever seen in my life
because of guys like him, Pep, Klopp, Cruyff, Mourinho and many others I still love football. Maybe someday I'll gonna can work with this game and build my own history, in my right proportions.
GL
Mourinho is an interesting and successful Coach but his football philosophy does not fit between the other names at al.
Mourinho doesn't belong in there. Lol.
@@dhamovjan4760 Yeah I know that, but his way of play, finding how to hurt dominant teams, made football get in the level that we know today. Obviously have another expressive names in defensive football, like Simeone in the last decade, but Mourinho still been the most successfull in terms of titles. Because that and his way of motivate underdog teams I admire him so much and consider one of the most important coach of the modern football, even that aren't in his best form anymore. Maybe I wasn't express myself in a clear way in the first comment 😉
He should take over his boyhood club Milan. The squad is being wasted by Pioli. He would make that team incredible.
Excellent done....thank you.....reminds me of a quote I read somewhere:
"Playing football with your feet is one thing, but playing football with your heart is another. To some, football is the best sport in the world. To others, it is their world."
Brighton being the protagonist is so true.
Good stuff, I love seeing your editing style progress!
man the level of story telling in this video really feels outstanding. Great job @thepurist for such quality content
At last i got my bro i too use this but more of 4-4-2 since fifa 15 and i have perfected it but i never thought it was applicable irl
What’s your tactics please
I will win any of you on the EA sports Fc 24 💀
His style of play made me a fan of brighton, i love to watch them play this beautiful game
It's one of the best videos in YT about football.
I see De Zerbi video, I click
There is no contradiction. Discipline improves the individual talent. Self-control is freedom.
This guy makes football much more enjoyable and fun to be part of. I would love to adopt his policies and a little bit from other top managers to develop my own philosophies
I’ve been here since the beginning.;Happy to see you’ve come so far.
Imagine Frenkie De Jong being coached by De Zerbi.
you make the best football documentaries/youtube essays you there mate. wonderfully told and very clear a pleasure to watch. Always come away even more fascinated and in awe of the individuals you talk about. none more than De Zebri.
I came here as soon as I heard that Xavi was leaving Barcelona at the end of the season
Just announced Barca are aiming to sign him to replace Xavi
Do you think this rigid structure will help simplify the game for Ansu and help him not trying so much to over do things he isn't capable of, and in turn get back his confidence? Or does it take away individualistic flares that Ansu has been trying regain since his injuries and in turn eliminating what made him the type of player he was/wants to be and perhaps, won't be successful without a system in the future?
Either way, I just hope he continue to develop well and return to Barca soon.
Imo the system will help ansu as it gives lots of space to attackers and the n10 is one of the most involved in De zerbis team
he chose brighton himself and he seems like a smart player, i think he went there for specific things and felt confident he could get something out of it.
Barca knows what they’re doing
I like most of your videos but this one really raised the bar, especially at the end. Felt also like you were echoing some of Jamie Hamilton’s laments on positionalism.
De Zerbi’s system is formidable. I love to see. I think its very important that football keeps on producing talents such as Cristiano, Messi, Neymar, Mbappe…. Always fun to watch these kind of players mess around with machine teams. Like De Zerbi, they are protagonists but in the field. Love the video❤
Really glad you made something in the essay format. It is something missing in this niche
Such a impressive breakdown of De Zerbi football philosophy..... really enjoyed watching it
I'd love to see him back at Milan, his childhood club. He talked about dreaming of coaching the team last summer. It would be awesome to have a boyhood fan coaching us instead of the idiot Interisti we have now. Plus, the squad seems tailor-made for his style of play.
Think you're being too harsh on Pioli. Hasn't he won you a Scudetto? Difficult to call him an Interista after that, no?
Elaa you can come under my umbrela.
If Christopher Nolan was a football manager, he would be Roberto De Zerbi
as an aspiring coach myself this video is a master piece and i watch it once every week
Thanks to the algorithm for suggesting this video. I really appreciate your style and substance.
he is absolutely one of the best coaches who knows football, but we must not forget that in the boring Spanish La Liga, referees are an extra tough opponent when it comes to being a coach for Barcelona, where the coach needs to win over both Madrid Mafia referees and opposing teams, which is very difficult to control in such Madrid Mafia controlled La Liga
@@PazLeBon mate it's crazy. Everyone's covering the same managers over and over and over again
De Zerbi
Arteta
Xavi
Pep
Klopp
No matter how groundbreaking Emery has been at Villa or how Cooper is doing at forest. It's unreal
@@icyveins21 fors ure, kinda clueless and boring ;)
Thank you very much for this ode to such an artist.
i hate the fact that in italy hes either loved or hated (and heavily) as an italian im ashamed, how you cant love him and his playstyle
This is an incredibly high quality video. Great work.
It took a long time but this video finally convinced me of De Zerbi. Really good coach.
Perfect choice of words. Love the documentary lol😂 the future is bright 🔥🔥🔥
Really excellent. Love your analysis, insight, and eloquent wording. Your in-depth knowledge is easily apparent, and you are gifted with words.
Probably the best explanation I have heard of this more modern, structural, tactical game of today. Very impressive. 👏
Lovely to see you back. LEGEND
Bellissimo video. Scienza e arte, l'essenza del calcio. De Zerbi sarebbe fantastico vederlo sulla panchina della Juve.
Oh i love xavi bit i would absolutely love see de zerbi with a better squad like barcas🔥
Is it possible to see another video about tactical developments in the brazil national team after the following games this weekend?
after all the bad times Brighton have gone through, they Di Zerb this time of glory.
He changed my life last seaon 😢 that hits hard❤❤
Really good script you wrote there. Kudos.
Definitely your best video thus far
Great job with the new style of video. Very enjoyable to watch.
The most underrated coach . In my opinion he s one of the bests in the world
The storytelling is this video is exceptional. Well done lad
I wish de Zerbi will coach Barca one day. Great video
he is milanista so most probable next destination is AC Milan given the fact that Pioli is on the hot bench.
Modern football has been ruined by stats and robitic plays. Except for Ancelotti who allows his players to express themselves, we are seeing magical talents like zidane n Ronaldimho fade away. I thing I have seen about this footballing philosophy from the school of pep is that anytime the players are presented wihich they have not practices they become clueless. I need to start watching Diniz of Flumenese for something different.
And now he's linked to Chelsea ❤
Beautifully done. Great job.
Love to see Brighton hit this level reminds me of the treble year of Manchester United exciting, direct and absolutely clinical with passion.
De Zerbi needs to come to Barcelona
💯 Xavi is a confused coach; he can’t even copy what is working.!!!!!
Nah Lowblock is his kryptonite being in Barcelona won't work to him
@@victorenochkwesi-otu581 xavi is the best man for the job I'm not saying he's near tactican like these guys but overall like it or not xavi is the only man who can save Barcelona in this period maybe be he can leave after Barcelona survived this era into a successful age
@@victorenochkwesi-otu581 his confusion confuses me too, like how can you be this confused being in a philosophical club🤦
@@johnjwjwjw3062 In those financial crisis; a coach like De Zabi; will not need buying of stars but can use young players and the name of Barcelona to lift the team back to where we belong will be better than Xavi; Having Xavi is okay but we will still go through a no philosophy systems. We can’t move the ball quickly enough, can use spaces. Xavi rely more on the quality of the players than a system; it needs a balance. You like him because he know the club and in this difficult season you think he is the right person but De Zabi can do a better Job with Mediocre players and the Barcelona name than Xavi is doing with this high value players. I like Xavi but he is a bit confused 🫤
This is beautiful to watch, very well done. From the words to the clips to the background music...it's very appealing. I love it!
Just imagine De Zerbi coaching Barça and spawning more La Masia talents. Just imagine!
What an absolutely beautiful flick mate!
He should now do a flick about Flick, then :)
one of your best videos if not the best. I thought it was gonna be like the other tactical videos but instead i felt like it was a documentary. I hope you keep creating the same work of art eventually.
This is excellent, have just subscribed and look forward to more of your videos. Up The Albion!
Welcome aboard!
The second part talking is actually “la pausa”, it’s a playmaker’s trait especially those from Spain and Italy, playmaker’s Era might pass, but interestingly to see nowadays managers are trying to take up that role for teams, they are implementing those qualities into their tactics
I need him in Barça, hope to see him next season
Excellent analysis. As a Brighton fan I doubt we will have de Zerbi after this summer but what…..a …..ride…wonderful . Home or awaybrighton attack. We lose some but who cares, the football is simply exhilarating 🥂👍
DeZerbi read Blue Lock when it first came out and thought “nah, i’d win.” and decided to change the world of football entirely
