To all new Bundesliga watchers, Leverkusen is not a small team. They are top 4. They were in bad form when Alonso took over. They lost title on last day to Bayern in 2002 and Champions league to Real Madrid in final in SAME season when they had legendary upcoming players like Ballack, Lucio, Zee Roberto and Berbatov. They were tagged as Neverkusen(means never a title) by missing it many times. They are like Spurs of Germany but made it this time ;)

Important comment imo, because people compare it to the Leicester story, which is not comparable at all. Leverkusen played in europe almost every season for the last 20 years. They just had a bad run before xabi alonso took over, but the squad was already strong. The exceptional part is how he made them this successful. But it's really more of a Tottenham story (with a happy end) than a Leicester story

Inter Milan almost captured that then lost a few weeks before the season end
2 observations:
(1) these are the most disciplined fans ever; diligently going back off the pitch after the 4th goal because they knew the match could get suspended if they stayed (try to convince British fans of this, good luck)
(2) this team, if they can keep it together with Alonso, will be a serious contender for the Champions League next season.

Leverkusen are playing some of the best football in Europe right now. They seem to have built a perfectly balanced team, and play an incredibly disciplined game, both in attack, build up and defence. I'm a Bayern fan, but I can only congratulate them on an achievement like this. Hopefully they clinch the Europa League too.

I just realized that i havent talked about bayer going unbeaten with my mates and im a liverpool fan. The problem with us football fans is that we focus too much on one league and we just never realized what's different and whats better in other leagues around the world. Congrats to xabi and leverkusen for making a memory that we will never forget. :D

I'm English and support my hometown team Wolves but I also keep an eye the other top euro leagues, you just need to check the scores and the table each week that's it and then if there's one that's a surprise outfit that's doing really well that's when i'll start watching their games, Napoli last season, Leverkusen this season, I watch all their games now. What you said though is true for others who just watch the prem, they say the prem is the best but they've never watched or have any interest in the other leagues

I'm curious if people from England just realise how crazy good Leverkusen is this Season. Unfortunately they can't play against those big Prem teams in the CL this season. For sure they are at the same level like ManCity, Liverpool and Arsenal in the moment.
I am a fan of Bayer 04 for over 40 years now. I´ve been in the arena on sunday, too. I celebrated the match, the victory and the championship with the other loyal fans in the "Nordkurve". After all these years there, this have been overwhelming moments. So many emotions. I still can´t watch your stadium vlog without getting tears in my eyes. Thanks for it!

Leverkusen is one of only four teams in the Bundesliga that don’t have to follow the 50+1 rule, so they have more money than two third of the competition. Only won two trophies so far (UEFA Cup in 1988, german Cup in 1993) and ended up second a lot of times. Still, this is a huge achievement - even Bayern in their best days were never unbeaten over such a long period of time. Don’t like‘em but WELL DESERVED! Congrats!

I'm Brazilian, and i support a team that is the most relegated to the 2° division. We won only one time the national league (Brasileirão série A) in 1985. We won the 2° division 2 times, but no one cares. I still love my team and supporting it and hopefully i'll see it winning some day. Me and my brother have been watching the Bundesliga since the early 2010s (also in time seeing Dortmund clutching it back then too), but throughout the years the league has become dull and stale because of Bayern's monopoly over the entire league. The only excitement for me in this league in recent memory was seeing Union Berlin cause a bit of havoc for a little while last season, until now. Seeing old 'Neverkusen' finally winning it and breaking Bayern's hold of the league this season has been nothing short of magical.
Congrats to Xabi Alonso and his men, congrats to Leverkusen and their supporters, you lot deserve this amazing season.
