    Yes lets start the dreaded engine oil conversation ! lol . In all honesty I'm a technician myself of 15+ yrs , If you really want to extend the longevity of the engine don't follow the manufactures suggested change intervals or suggested viscosity . Here's is why ... #1 - The ONLY reason Toyota suggests 0w16 oil is to satisfy the laws and regulations put onto them from the government EPA/CAFE . In other countries with the same vehicle with the same exact engine calls for 5w30, 10w30 or even 5w40 oil . Don't listen to uneducated people claiming its due to the engine having "tighter tolerances" . It's b.s . I've studied service manuals spanning the past 20 yrs and I've compared bearing clearances and cylinder wall clearance specs and they're all within a couple thousands of an inch . You can safely run 5w30 synthetic oil in these Toyota engines . It offers better shear protection when the engine is hot . with direct injection the engine oil is prone to fuel dilution which really waters down these low viscosity oils (0w8, 0w16,0w20) . You will notice how much more quieter the engine will be running 5w30. The difference is drastic . I service a small fleet of Toyota vehicles including rav4s, corollas and tundra's , we use 5w30 synthetic in all of them . They all have hundreds of thousands of miles , along with high idle time . Never have we had any engine oil related issues . We have contacted Toyota corporate and have confirmed that they will honor powertrain warranty when we use 5w30. #2 - Toyota filters are mediocre at best , watch some TH-cam videos of people cutting them open , you will see that they don't have endcaps over the filtering media , this hinders filtering efficiency big time . I suggest a tried and true quality filter like a wix which uses metal endcaps around the filter media .

      5w30 will wreck the engine in the winter. I run 0w20 year round.

      I agree. I started finding South American owners manuals for all my cars. Not only do they recommend thicker oil many times they call for shorter drain intervals.

      @@wolfeadventures I’d run 0w30 year round if I lived there. That’s an extreme climate.

    Nice distance on the crush washer. Much better than in the drain pan.

      I run 0w20 year round. These motors like thin oil, but even I agree that 0w8 and 0w16 are too thin.

    Really do appreciate your videos. Much has been learned. Just curious, why you do not use the Pennzoil? You recommend it for the 4Runner. I (we) have a 21 Prime and now a 21 4Runner Venture so your videos are incredibly helpful. Thank you!!!

    I am little surprised that Toyota designed that air filter replacement by removing the air flow sensor first however they did learn their lessons and gone back to canister oil filter instead of those housing cartridge style. One step forward and one step backward with Toyota. At least they gave us a dipstick 😂

    Hello! With all these Toyotas, have you ever experienced oil in the spark plug tube? I have a 2011 FJ - years ago, found oil in my driver side middle spark plug tube. Ended up doing the job myself, replacing the gasket… Every few months I checked and was dry. Well, just prematurely changed my plugs the other day - and sure enough, I have oil in the same tube after just three years. Pretty frustrated. Have you ever experienced this? Wondering if I need a better made gasket, or maybe I need to replace something else? It was an OEM replacement gasket and I replace, or at least check and clean the PCV valve every year. Not looking forward to sitting on top of the engine again, although, totally doable… ARGGHHHHH!! What county you in in NJ? ChesCo PA here. Born and raised in S Jersey. 👊🏽

    • @VikingsGarage
      @VikingsGarage  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Northern NJ here.
      Honestly, sounds like one of two things…
      Either that valve cover is warped in the center (or not properly torqued)
      Or the gasket could have been faulty.
      Do make sure it sits completely flush.
      (use a mallet to assist you)

    After adding the new oil do you start the vehicle and then back it off the ramps or push it off the ramps and then start it to check for leaks. I know people do it both ways so just curious what you prefer. Thanks!

    • @VikingsGarage
      @VikingsGarage  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Start it while on the ramps, quick glance under to confirm no leaks.

    Thank you for the RAV4 oil change video. I’ve been changing the oil in my Toyotas for decades. I have a 1999 3.4 liter V6 Tacoma PreRunner I bought new. I picked up a new 2024 TRD Pro 4Runner in May and about to take delivery of a ‘24 RAV4 Adventure this week on 11/15, so this comes in handy to know what to expect. In the video, it looks like the oil drain plug is at an angle towards the rear of the car, correct? When you use ramps on a level surface, the plug is at the correct angle to drain the oil effectively the way it appears - right?

    • @VikingsGarage
      @VikingsGarage  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It’s a bit of an angle but not terrible, like you said the ramps correct it a bit. Congrats on all the great car choices 💪🏻

    What’s your opinion on the OEM Toyota filter versus Wix. The Wix has a like a seal on each end of it where the Toyota one doesn’t, also the Wix is slightly longer than OEM. What’s your opinion on this matter since you know your stuff and work at Toyota.

    • @VikingsGarage
      @VikingsGarage  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      There’s only another oil filter that I would trust. K&N
      But for a street application do yourself a favor and stick to OEM. Lots of research and development being spent picking the right one. 🤷🏼‍♂️
