    CORRECTION: At 10:49, when talking about the oil I use, I say "50-30" oil.....I meant to say that I prefer 5W-30 Valvoline oil. I'm sorry if that caused any confusion.

      Hi Dennis, great video. Do you have any consumption between changes?
      I have a Toyota V6 4.0 1GR-FE Engine that burns no oil at all but I have heard a lot of negative about this 2.4L engine.

    Thanks for the help. My 16 year old son wants to do as much of the maintenance as he can on his 2007 Camry; he's kicking around the idea of being a mechanic one day. This video taught me how to teach him!

    Probably the best 4 cyl. Camry DIY oil change video on TH-cam. Clear, crisp video, and detailed description. I like the tip about jacking up just the driver's side. I also like your choice of Valvoline. Ashland Oil has the most advanced oil refining technology in the
    U.S. Whatever brand you use, stay with it.

    I really appreciate the clear and specific way you describe the whole process from start to finish. The up close camera shots help a TON and I’ve noticed that not very many other people include the shots of the underside of the car. Also the editing is great! Thanks for making all of these really helpful videos!

    Well done sir! Great daily driver right there. The 2.4L might burn oil but if you stay on top of it, it’ll go and go.

    • @dwcoffey

      Yes sir! It is a great little engine. We had a recall on ours that required a ring replacement. That took care of the oil burning issue. It is still going strong!

    Thanks for the tips in the video! I've got a comment for lubricating the new filter seal, I usually take the old filter and "kiss" the seal to the new one and twist. this usually gets enough oil on to seal and prevents you from getting your gloves as dirty.

    Thanks Dennis. Clear instructions and good to see you using gloves. Home mechanics need to understand the health issues associated with skin contact and vehicle fluids in general. Same goes for disposal and environmental contamination issues.
    I get around the issue with the correct oil amount by using a clean measuring jug with accurate volume increments and accurately measuring in the new oil. I find many vehicles give different dip stick readings depending on slight variations in vehicle angle, and some diesels actually leave a space for some oil dilution from the dpf regen process.

    I have a 2009 Camry that I change the oil in. Your video is a great refresher for me. I have a question if you might know. If I unlock the doors with the key fob, the car beeps loudly. Is it possible to disable the sound?

      Thank you Mark! I appreciate you watching and commenting. I hate the way this car honks when the doors are unlocked! I've tried, but have not been successful in figuring out how to disable this. I'm sorry.

    Hello,
    I'm brand new to all of this.
    I attempted to change my oil in my 2009 Camry for the very first time while using this video to guide me. After I drained everything I attempted to loosen the filter with my hands but it won't move. I bought the Performance Tool Canister Type Oil Filter Wrench which told me I needed a 1/2 drive ratchet but it didn't fit my filter . I'm using a screw on FRAM PH4386. I am unsure if there is a piece that fits specifically to the ratchet for it. There isn't even enough room for me to turn the ratchet. I'm unfamiliar with tools. You said an extension earlier in the video but im unsure which one to buy.
    Your video is amazing and made everything simple and clear. I just have a little issue lol

    • @dwcoffey
      @dwcoffey  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Richard, thanks for watching! If the filter wrench you have doesn't fit the filter, I'd suggest taking your new filter to the parts store.....fit a filter wrench to it. That should insure a fit to the filter on your car. Some filter wrenches will take a 1/2" ratchet, some will take a 3/8" drive ratchet, so you also need to make sure you have the right size ratchet to fit the wrench that fits your filter. I recommend you get a 12" extension for your ratchet. that should give you enough length to get the wrench onto the filter and still have enough room to apply enough force to your ratchet to remove the filter.
      Let me know if that doesn't make sense or if you need more help. I'll do my best.

    • @nospam3409
      @nospam3409 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If a shop put your filter on, they probably over tightened it. If so, you will probably need a strap style oil filter wrench to get it loose. The wrenches that fit on a ratchet are easier to use, but they can't grip the filter strong enough to break it free if someone has over tightened it.

    I use a ratchet with a 14mm socket more torque. What size is the oil filter remover? I nerd to purchase one cause sometimes the oil filter is stuck, you can use a flathead screwdriver to remove it but it takes more time and oil gets everywhere.

    I have an 08 SE and use Rhino ramps. I don't know why you say the air dam prevents using the ramps. Also, on the oil filler cap, the oil specified is either 5W-20 or 0W-20. I always pre-fill the filter prior to installing.

    • @dwcoffey
      @dwcoffey  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can't drive onto Rhino ramps with an 09 equipped with an air dam, unless you want to bend or remove the air dam. Won't fit. Pre-filling an oil filter is a waste of time, makes a mess, and does absolutely nothing to protect your engine. It's an old wives tale kept alive by people who don't know how an engine is lubricated internally. Not sure what your point is on the oil cap. Thanks for watching.

    • @fabfabber
      @fabfabber 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@dwcoffey Unless the air dam on an '09 SE is different than it is on my '08 SE, then the Rhino ramps can be used. Pre-filling the filter is NOT a waste of time, as the engine is lubricated a couple seconds faster (as per TH-cam video by Lake Speed.) There's no mess from filling the filter since it is installed seal up, vs sideways or upside down. Plus, I fill it a day before I change the oil, which gives the media time to absorb it. The oil filler cap shows the recommended oil type, which is confirmed in the owners manual---5W-20 or 0W-20. Perhaps in your part of the country, the oil type recommended may be different.

      Thanks for watching! They all have paper media, which is fine. Some of them, notably Fram, use cardboard end caps on the pleated media. I don't like these filters. Wix, Bosch, Denso, most OEM, and others use metal end caps on the pleated media. This is preferable to me.

      Hi Jude, thanks for watching. Two reasons really.....5W20 (Toyota's recommended viscosity) is difficult to find where I live, and the climate is very hot here most of the year, so the higher viscosity wont hurt anything. But, I would always suggest following the manufacturer's recommendation.
