Love how I always seem to run into Patrons on Arena a day before the video releases :D I’m always like: „Wait I already played against that one!“. Its like getting a live preview before the video.
Lurgoyf's kicker is a replacement effect, not a trigger! Opponents can't respond once it entered the battlefield until the milling is complete. It's really neat.
I love self mill decks. I’m a huge fan of dredge and I enjoy playing those Prized Amalgam decks in timeless. So I will definitely be playing this for standard. So far it seems resilient and not many answers to except the thrillback. Killing the creatures literally doesn’t make a difference here which is great.
Self-mill decks are my go-to during Artisan events and Sidisi is one of my favourite Brawl commanders (Convinced to built thanks to you btw), so it is nice to see that strategy is doing work in standard too.
@@pax368just an FYI: watching at double speed means also halving the video's watch time, making the YT algorithm less likely to recommend it and thus hurting the creator. I personally try to avoid that with people I respect and find deserving of success, like LegenVD here. But ultimately that's up to you, of course.
I Have run this deck in Only black green and an inclusion of 4 Tyvar's! super fun and usually pretty good against mono red. Great seeing your interpretation of the deck!
I've seen a version of this piloted by Seth on MTGGoldfish and honestly, from the games he's played, in the late game once you've put down your big creatures, exiling the graveyard becomes trivial. I guess Farewell rotating out really helped in getting this deck up in games.
I have to build it. I played yesterday against it, with your discard deck...... I lost so badly :D more I discard, cheaper the creatures where..... :D nice one....
I've been running variants of this deck since Urborg Lhurgoyf came out, and I think I've figured out the critical card to making it work in the meta: Atraxa's Skitterfang. It is colorless, is a creature, and it gives one of your massive creatures either lifelink (10-20 life) or flying (much-needed evasion to get past chump blockers). I've never seen anyone else play it, and it's almost always the finisher. Without it, I feel like Sultai Self-Mill falls more into "jank but fun", rather than "excellent answer to the meta". Anybody who's toying with this archetype, try swapping in 4x Atraxa's Skitterfang for the Writhing Necromass.
@@LegenVD yeah don’t get me wrong, i do enjoy them and all your constructed content a lot! Still think that your drafting provides a lot of value tho 🙂
Not being a creature is a massive drawback for a deck like this. In my experience Beanstalk tends to be a little win-more. It doesn’t help with the initial setup and only gets going when the deck should already be in a good position. I see it more as a sideboard option for grindy matchups with lots of discard and spot removal.
I've been playing a similar build for awhile now. The urabrask sunfall control kind of decks have given me a lot of trouble. I've tried throwing glissas in or tear assunders, beanstalks to help refill but then i usually draw out
There will always be some tougher matchups out there unfortunately. Beanstalk is a decent plan, but if they get Forge going alongside Talent they usually draw enough removal to keep the board clear and win with hasty tokens. Between answers like Lockdown and Get Lost they can still answer the enchantment, so it won't always stick around. Could try Season of Loss as a win condition that doesn't rely on creatures attacking, although still rough in the face of Sunfall and Lockdown exiling some of our creatures and they have a bunch of lifegain to get out of range. I have some other decks coming out soon that are much better at facing such control decks.
I played a Golgari variation of this deck, sans glarb, with Up the Beanstalk, Hollow Marauder is a potential 4 for one (Draw off Beans, Opponent Discard, Potential draw again, and you still have the 4/2 flier) Glarb has good synergy with Beans, unfortunately beans doesnt help if it hits the graveyard
Maybe the talent with the hedgehog art (will have to look up the name lol) would be worth a consideration? A bit of removal plus trample on those dummy thicc creatures could be sweet... Edit: Hunter's talent, of course...
It just makes the deck less stable with less creature spells. Have you noticed, how many times it REALLY mattered, if the milled card was a creature, or not? With so many creatures the deck is very explosive. And the Talent can't be cast with Glarb, which is another huge downside.
@@marekjurcikThat's why I run Chupacabra, Skyfisher Spider, or Ertai as my removal in this deck. I've discovered that the more you dilute your deck with non-land/non-creature cards, the less consistent it becomes.
Beanstalk for grindy matchups perhaps. Otherwise I would mostly stick to creatures. There’s Skyfisher Spider, Ertai or the new chupacabra for removal. Might need some more good cards to help vs monored.
Rutstein is a consideration, although it’s probably still worse than Glarb. Miasma would be more of a sideboard card, although we might prefer Glistening Deluge if it’s mostly for the Rabbits matchup.
Dude. This one is a lot of fun. Been playing it for a couple weeks. Definitely try out beans in this. It pops off 😂 This is especially satisfying when playing against discard decks 😂😂 I always emote "much obliged" and a tip of the cap. 😂😂 Fuckin WRECKED, discard losers

hey legend, i know it probably isn't as exciting as bo1, but have you considered releasing bo3 videos? Would love to see you explain side-deck options and stuff.
I did when Arena just released since I was used to playing traditional Standard. The best of one videos seem to perform better and allow to showcase a wider range of matchups in the same amount of time. When I'm building a new deck almost every day it would also take considerably more time to work out a good sideboard strategy for each deck, so I prefer giving suggestions at the end of the video or as replies in the comments, where other people can also chime in with their thoughts.
Love this deck. I don't get WotC. Who there looks at mono red and says, "Yeah, that's in a good spot but let's give it some card draw and the ability to do double strike!"
Monored is already getting engulfed by all the midrange and control decks in the format - torch the tower and temporary lockdown eat it up. Play BO3 if you want a more representative metagame
Mono red keep geting broken cards thats the reason i left Magic.. after years of playing Magic i finally had enough, when u die on turn 3/4 i dont see any point in playing this game

SULTAI!? WOOOOO!!!! Love self mill strategies so much! I would LOVE to see you make Glarb as a Brawl Commander someday!! 🤘
My god yes, I have a Glarb commander and I'd love an LVD take on it
the historic community needs more of your decks ❤
Bloomburrow didn't really add much to the format.
Love you LVD, I look forward to your videos every day 🎉
Glad you like them!
I’ve been running a very similar list with up the beanstalk. I will have to try out glarb
I was thinking of building with garruks uprising it maybe better than up the beanstalk cuz of trample good vs token strategies
Awesome deck. Informative and entertaining as always. Thanks.

Glarbage Day 😎
Men: "Sultai"
Men of Culture: "Butterfly"
should you add jayce in case you get no cards in library for an instant win? Everytime I make a self mill sultai deck, a jayce planeswalker is a must.
That Jace hasn't been in Standard for a while.

I find you need the gas Beanstalk provides to push through the win, I tend to run out of gas just fueling my graveyard.
