I think this deck gets the award for "Powerful deck that I least want to see anyone ever have to play in paper." Not even because I don't want to see it across from me, I just think that keeping track of the triggers, the exponential number of stormsplitters, which ones are tapped and which ones aren't, and how much power they have all sounds like absolute hell without Arena doing it for you.
it's mostly annoying doing the floodcaller math but most of the time, it either is small enough numbers that are manageable or large enough that it doesn't matter.
@@asraarradon4115 At least every Scute Swarm is a 1/1. One exponential equation is more annoying than basic arithmetic, but it's manageable. Needing to keep all the otters in separate generations so you know how many of them have gotten how many pseudo-prowess buffs is an additional layer that pushes it over the edge, imo.
@@parkerdixon-word6295 Yeah, it may be a little more complicated. But you used to mutate onto Scute Swarm, and you would have to keep track of all the different power sand toughnesses for which ones were made before and after the mutates, and which one create new ones with those stats. Wasn't exactly easy with Scute Swarm either.
Unless you make it a point of playing Hundred-Handed One in every deck, you shouldn't really bother keeping track of the exact number of otters or their stats. It's just a question of knowing binary: either your opponent storms off for game, or they don't and you get an extra turn to live.
Since the announcement of Bloomburrow I wanted to make Stormsplitter work but I always found it too slow. Thanks for showcasing me that it actually works when you have a great deck builder behind it!
dude thank you so much for making this video, instantly crafted the deck and having so much fun (i only needed another 2 stormsplitters and floodcallers so was an easy yes). Been having a blast with it in unranked
oh man... I don't often craft decks from the internet, but when I do it's from LVD. I've only played 2 games with this deck so far, already one of my favorites in a long time. Sooo much fun!!
I saw Stormsplitter in Arena myself recently and thought "Wow, this is kind of mediocre, what's an extra couple of 1/4s gonna do for me?" and then when you said "exponential" i just paused the video and said "...Ohhhhhhhhhhh," out loud to myself.
Otters Strike Back! This deck is explosively awesome! An absolute headache to try to keep track of triggers in paper, but thank goodness Arena can handle it xD
Otterrific. Was on the fence about Stormsplitter being a legitimate playable or a meme card. Glad it can perform at least... REALLY WELL, huh?.. Thanks to convoke spells. Nice catch (pun intended).
At 19:20, ignoring the bobs and burning face would've netted 4-5 more damage that turn, plus anything from flips. Really hard to predict the full line from 20 down to 0 with draw engines in play, though!
Dour Port-Mage is a beast in this deck. When the otters exile at the end of your turn you draw a card for each one. If you have a profts eidetic memory out, you basically draw 15-20 cards and keep them
Plotted cards have a weird interaction where they can only ever be cast as a sorcery, even if another affect such as Valley Floodcaller giving noncreature spells flash. Such interactions is why plotting opposing counterspells with Aven Interrupter renders them completely useless.
I've been playing a ton of otters, it's the deck I made mythic with and in my experience slickshot show off is better than the storm splitter. Also a huge fan of how kitsa performed in my lists.
@@LegenVD stormsplitter is very cool but so is kitsa and her spell doubling. Unfortunately she's currently bugged and doesn't let you trigger her if she was used to convoke a spell even after being untapped by floodcaller and wizards won't respond to my bug report.
I've built around it in the past and it can be good. It would incentivize us to play fewer spells that already have Convoke to get more out of it, at which point we start to rely on drawing the Battle a little too much.
Is it just me, or is the graphic for the tokens not like it used to be? I thought the tokens stacked on top of each other in a pile? Great games, by the way!
The deck never seemed like it was too slow, but it did seem like it flooded out or ran out of gas pretty often. Is there and MDFC lands in rotation like spikefield hazard you could include to remedy this issue?
I was hoping to play this deck so I've crafted the cards and double checked I have everything. For some reason Stoke the Flames and Meeting of Minds are showing as not legal. Checked the format and everything - Not sure why it's not letting me play this deck in Standard? Am I missing something?
Game 1 was impressive but I believe you also just had on board lethal the turn before he wrathed for what it's worth. You can cast three more spells (shock, stoke, pearl) and remove two blockers (with shock and stoke), attacking with four creatures against 1 blocker. You get in with three: (9 + 7 + 6 = 22). 22 > 18. Am I missing something? Granted, you were going for the most explosive finish possible but still thought it worth mentioning the lethal here.
They used to give some gems for streaming the game, but that was discontinued years ago. I buy packs with every new set release now that I'm no longer actively drafting.
Hahahaha "trigger warning". But anyway I play a similar deck but it's nowhere near as refined as this. And I legit judt started playing MTGArena. Like 3weeks ago since I have no one to play paper magic with at the moment. That said I love your ideas and content keep it up. And if you have any tips how to speed up my collection in-game so I can craft the cards I need please fill me in
Make sure to get 4 daily wins and do your quests! If you like drafting it's also the fastest way to complete your collection, especially if you can maintain a high winrate. That's how I used to complete sets basically for free.
Stoking the face instead of Sentinel at the end of Match 5 at 35:15 was strictly a misplay and you wouldn't have been dead on board, they would've had to chump with Sheoldred, had you done the basic math necessary to see the correct line. Could've at least put a note on the screen for this so others can not make similar mistakes with prowess creatures and lethal attacks.
I suggest you do the math again yourself and get back to me. The only reason they ended up at 1 life is because they didn't block with Sheoldred whatsoever.
For the purposes of storming off with Stormsplitter we much prefer Valley Floodcaller. Bria might be better outside of Otter decks where you make a bunch of non-Otter tokens.
I love that otter tribe in bloomburrow is both adorable and powerful!
