RIP Braids version of this deck, it was my favourite. One mono-black deck I've found insanely fun is playing 4x Kaervek with a ton of target removal and discard effects. The biggest issue with discard decks is that you're usually trading 1 for 1, and Kaervek makes this trade soooo much better. Insane card, honestly. I was looking into an Orzhov crimes deck to run Kaervek in since you lose so much life, and I think mixing it with some bats could be good. Loss of life effects are guaranteed every turn basically so that's a positive.
13:15 I remember the brawl video where you kept referring to Ojer Axonil as "our god" (his name is confusing to pronounce to be fair) and it felt like we were in a mono red cult xD
Invasion of Innistrad (the Battle card) actually has a similar effect to that class enchantment, and combines discard 2 + the damage each turn. Only issue is getting it to flip over.
2 months later and this deck just took me from bronze to platinum with only 5 losses! Insane deck, I almost feel sorry for opponents. *Let’s see if we can get to mythic*
I am surprised people are asking about Fell. I think Fell has a home in decks which swing in with creatures almost every turn, but aside from that there's not much reason to run it over instant-speed options imo.
People genuinely did not realize that it is a Sorcery. MTG Standard is a format where 1% of players build decks and read cards, everyone else can't be bothered.
@@geronimo8159 when 75% of my games are against mono red players who don't understand basic rules interactions I can't agree with you. 1% is an exaggeration but let's not pretend the average arena player has any understanding of the game beyond net decks and linear play patterns.
Hey LVD. Kind of a recommendation, but could you explain what your decks are weak to? Lots of people will net deck you, and it can become pervasive. Would be nice to know how to beat it. 🙏
@@nandopaiva4848 I did end up hearing it. I guess I meant during the deck tech. Like, "this deck excels against midrange and is weak to creature lands".
Artifacts like Urabrask's Forge and Synthesizer are difficult to interact with once in play, they also make it difficult to ultimate Liliana. Card draw engines like Caretaker's Talent that can be repeatedly activated are also a problem. The black/white bat deck has enough card draw and recursion to be able to outgrind most draws from the discard deck. Big card draw effects are also great topdecks once you have enough lands in play to cast them, assuming there's no Sheoldred to punish them. In general just hitting your land drops and then having ways to activate them for value, whether it's creature lands or lands that make tokens, is an effective strategy. Obstinate Baloth can also be a fun surprise as you will see in tomorrow's video!
6:50 Attacking with the bat here leaves you dead to Monstrous Rage or Blazing Crescendo. 3x double-strike 1/x and 1x cacophany + sacrifice = 8, +3 on any creature = 14. Not attacking lets you soak up 1 on blocks (but only gain life if you block the scamp).
16:34 A reason to start with Negotiation instead of nightmare would be so that they can't get the free 4/4 already on turn 1 from getting it discarded.
Could see it be effective in a build that has fewer creatures and relies more on Talent as a win condition. The most powerful mode on Rankle's Prank is sacrificing two creatures, so we really want to build around it. Cards like Razorlash Transmogrant or Forsaken Miner which can recur out of the graveyard could also pair well with it. A while ago I tried it in a red/black burn deck where it was quite good, but it is high variance and can be too slow against certain aggro decks.
i think kaervek the punisher could have been a great addition to this deck, for reusing discard, kill spells or creatures, any comments about this idea, legends?
@@txflood2519 I dunno... most of those games lasted 7+ turns and the opponents weren't even very defensive. Add some ramp and control for those Simic colors and you can probably hit X=2 pretty reliably unless Sheoldred comes out on curve.

It's an option, but there are some decks that are mostly creatures so it has a very real fail rate. Usually Duress comes in out of the sideboard when we know it will be effective.

Dopplegang is kind of hilarious against these discard decks. Hit each of their bandit's talent for 2 or 3, now I'm the discard deck.
