Finally a Half-Life themed Video that is calm and NORMAL in it's own special way. It shows how normal the BMRF actually can be. And quite boring if one thinks about it. But You still managed to deliver it's monotone office-like atmosphere interesting enough for the viewer. Altough i have to admit (even tough i'm a patient viewer myself) that some scenes could be a tad bit shorter, but nonetheless it's still looked promising. Apart from the somewhat "unfinished" or, we could say "unpolished" animations, i am looking forward for more videos like this to come! It's a nice exchange for all the action packed and hollywood-like mini-sfm movies one sees here in TH-cam. Keep it up Mate! Also: I loved the reactions You put into the characters. Gives them a more humane perspective, Ya know? And last but not least: Some atmospheric / background noises would be nice, as one could only hear the voices in the video and that's it. Still, ya made an ace job!
P¡ℤ☡λ - ℙⅈᵴ$ It would have been great if all the scientists screamed the entire time like every other person's mod out there. I definitely never get tired of that. This is not refreshing because it keeps in tone with Half Life.
He does actually speak, but valve wanted you to project as gordon so they removed his voice lines and just hoped that you'd substitute. Like "Hey,Guard,Let's go!" And then the guard replies.
Amazing! Love all the little touches like how the audio is drowned out when the two scientists are about to let him through the door, the fistbumps, shakey camera, etc... Feels so much more alive!
Played HL2 in (I think) 2003(?) - lent to me by a friend. Then HL1 on my Son's PS2 a couple years later. 2012(ish) my now adult son bought me the Orange Box for my sh1tty PC. Last week I discovered Black Mesa on Steam... Now this... It's like I've grown up with this whole HL thing as I'm sure a lot of people feel... thanks for doing this/posting/etc. Very happy middle aged man right here today :)
Makes no sense, there are probably only 2-3 chapters in all of Half-Life with enough story to make an SFM. You wouldn't want to just watch an animation of some guy shooting aliens.
My friends and I had a running joke in school that the reason that Gordon never spoke was because he was hungover, and was trying to pretend he wasn't. I like this film because it holds up.
As a fan of half-life since the early 2000's I always thought that the story of the game was deserving of a movie... Thank you for making it almost real!
The character animation is a bit clunky, very sfm-esque style of movement, but the camera movement, composition and cinematography is very well done, I look forward to seeing your work as it progresses!
Brilliant! Thank you for including the helmet, ive always enjoyed the helmet player model and wish it was included more in the art and gameplay itself but oh well.
I remember the first time I played - when the crisis started in the test chamber, I kept trying to make it to the exit and got warped away both times just as I reached the door. It was so immersive.
Damn, half life created something that's inseparable. I mean no matter what u make, a mod, a video, a teaser, anything related to half life, it just works. It's addictive and it's consuming. Love every bit of this ❤️ Love black Mesa, Gordon and everything in between. Half life = complete gaming life
I think you did amazingly with the SFM. The animations with Gordon and the other characters were smooth, although some had a noticeable amount of blur. Limes were synced well and the music for well. My only other complaint, aside from the blur, was some characters felt too stiff and some of the pathing was noticeably odd.
"Dr." is reserved for medical doctors. One of my family relatives once announced himself as a "doctor" when boarding an aircraft. During the flight someone fell ill and so of course the aircrew came looking for my relative... Guess he looked a bit stupid when he had to say he was the wrong kind of doctor!
Turns it even worse: It may or may not be reserved for medical doctors--it depends on where you live... "Oh, you wanker, don't be so sil--" "See for yourself: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doctor_(title)" "..."
This is great! I really like that you dimmed Gordon's eyes. Personally I think the music from 3:18 onward was better in the previous video, it gave a feeling of something big and epic going on. It also seems like the scientists are still screaming after they're dead, but those are just details. Looking forward to the next part :)
+Jana Zachovalová I agree on the music during the HEV strut section, I just wanted to avoid using copyrighted music so kind of composed a knock off. Next part coming soon!
"Gordon, if you can go over to the delivery chute you can collect the sample....I hope you remembered to bring a pound coin with you, we got the trolley from Tesco's car park - Barney stole it when no-one was looking and we haven't had a chance to change the lock thing on it yet...."
In the original Half-Life,he has a proper model because of the multiplayer element. But Half-Life 2 doesn't have the multiplayer element so they just had that black statue as a placeholder.
This is amazing! Feels like how the day actually should've gone instead of the ridiculous events in stuff like Freeman's Mind, Make Your Time, and Gorgeous Freeman.
+spongedog 001 that's what I thought - a few people have asked why he isn't in a lab coat, but you wouldn't wear your lab wear on the commute. It would be extremely unhygienic. Gordon has sharp dress sense in my version of the lore.
A lot of time went into this, I can tell. Much respect. And they even added a "eerie muffled-moment" during the two scientists' conversation. I have not seen that type of footage since Thief DS. Very well done video!! (Including a reference to " eerie muffled moment": th-cam.com/video/V3X2Ojde5yI/w-d-xo.html -->Time=1:45ish)
The thing that made me cry at the start of the game was.. The death of the two scientists who let us inside the Test Chamber They kept saying, "We believe in you!" And, "We have confidence in you!" And all, it just made their death's sad ;~; Yep, the two at 6:25 moved me quite emotionally ;~;
You have improved a lot! The camera work is much better, but your animation still needs work. The character's movements are too stiff and abrupt. Just keep practicing, and you'll get better. I look forward to seeing your next animation! And P.S, I'm glad you took note of my comment on the Super Metroid audio in the opening scene, I'm surprised you cared to fix such a minor little detail. :)
+Kyle Morgan thanks! I didn't really do a great much to the animation itself, or I'd never get round to continuing the series - this was really for the sake of character models and audio fixes. Hopefully the animation will start to improve over the next few episodes!
I was hoping someone else caught the mix of Lower Norfair music and....what I vaguely remember as sounds from the final boss (which doesn't make sense for a few reasons- because you'd be hard pressed to die with the hyper beam) I just wasn't sure how to bring it up o.o That being said, this was really well done and I can't wait for future installments ^^ (er, that is if you plan on continuing this as a series o.o)
Excellent work! I like how this gives Gordon _some_ sort of personality even while being mute. It actually makes his silence a little believable. I like all the details that make the whole setting a little more relatable. Understandable you didn't want to animate Gordon getting off the ladder ;) Looking forward to checking out the other installments!

This needs the Freeman's Mind voice-over treatment.
"Morning Mr. Freeman." "Sup fool."
"Aw man, you cut the ponytail"
Gordon had a ponytail?!?!!
Yes, the model of Gordon for half life 1 has a pony tail, and in half life 2 it appears that he doesn't have it anymore. The quote is from the fan made remake black Mesa ;)

P¡ℤ☡λ - ℙⅈᵴ$
It would have been great if all the scientists screamed the entire time like every other person's mod out there. I definitely never get tired of that. This is not refreshing because it keeps in tone with Half Life.
P¡ℤ☡λ - ℙⅈᵴ$
Wait, I think this counts as a mod.
2:58 I like how, when you're wearing headphones, you can feel the beat rather than really "hear" it, because it's so quiet.
How did he get a PhD without talking
+CakesAreVeryCool he’s got The Shinning.
Online classes.
He does actually speak, but valve wanted you to project as gordon so they removed his voice lines and just hoped that you'd substitute. Like "Hey,Guard,Let's go!" And then the guard replies.
It would be politically incorrect to fail a mute
He menacingly stared at everyone until they caved in and just gave him the PhD
2019 still waiting for Half-life 3
Chuck Norris people say this but it’s never happening, the closest thing we are getting is project borealis which looks very promising
@@slayrix279 Yes, he is going to make Half-Life 3 than Valve making half life.

Make a series with every chapter!
Halosince151101 I think that was the plan...
+++
Пожалуйста!!! Сделайте их :)
Yep, it is the plan, since they did Unforseen Consequences in two parts.

I like this film because it holds up.
i wonder how hard it is to have friends without speaking
he can emote. that's one way to communicate.

HBO just released Chernobyl mini-serial, enjoy it ;)
Brilliant! Thank you for including the helmet, ive always enjoyed the helmet player model and wish it was included more in the art and gameplay itself but oh well.
You can't even use the helmet in any games other than the first.
Love every bit of this ❤️
Love black Mesa, Gordon and everything in between.
Security playin Super Metroid on the SNES. Dope.
Was that an Alien action figure in Freeman's locker? Love it.
It’s called a Xenomorph.
This is perfect. But it bugs me a little that everyone calls him "Mr. Freeman" and not "Dr. Freeman".
No its not, lmao.
Dr is reserved for medical doctors and people with a doctorate (PhD), Gordon has a PhD
Turns it even worse:
It may or may not be reserved for medical doctors--it depends on where you live...
"Oh, you wanker, don't be so sil--"
"See for yourself: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doctor_(title)"
"..."
in the non remastered version they always call him doctor, these audio clips are from the remastered version
10:12 scientists already spread over the walls in a pasty soup but still screaming lol
That part when he enters the test chamber reminds me of 2001: Space Oddysey when they reach the monolith on the moon.
Great work!
You should release that track at 3:18, its epic as f***, I would do my night drives happily with that track :)

I thought Gordon Freeman was just a third person black statue.
That profile picture... Code Lyoko !!!
Its a fan-made model on the Sfm workshop.
In the original Half-Life,he has a proper model because of the multiplayer element. But Half-Life 2 doesn't have the multiplayer element so they just had that black statue as a placeholder.
The statue is fully articulated, so it could have been used...
2:37 I feel more bad on this guy then the entire world dying from the Combines
it took me until 9:21 to realise they were wearing scout's headphones

4:38 they’re waiting for you Gordon...in the test chamberrrr...
"Aw man, you cut the ponytail. Sellout."
What? What's wrong with keeping it casual?? ^_^
IT is a refference to the original model of freeman wich had a ponytail a beard and kinda looked like a space pirate
Although, I'd argue that a ponytail is the more casual way and cutting your hair short is conservative and business look.

i dont think the suit was from black mesa they could not afford it i think its gordons suit before he would put on the lab coat on a normal day
+spongedog 001 that's what I thought - a few people have asked why he isn't in a lab coat, but you wouldn't wear your lab wear on the commute. It would be extremely unhygienic. Gordon has sharp dress sense in my version of the lore.
yep can wait for unforeseen consequences any idea when you going to upload it? or still to far off
+spongedog 001 still got quite a lot to do - I've slowed down to deal with some more pressing stuff, so I can't make too many promises

That's some amazing foreshadowing for the fact he has almost superhuman abilities
Hopefully the animation will start to improve over the next few episodes!
cant wait to see new episodes
I was hoping someone else caught the mix of Lower Norfair music and....what I vaguely remember as sounds from the final boss (which doesn't make sense for a few reasons- because you'd be hard pressed to die with the hyper beam) I just wasn't sure how to bring it up o.o
That being said, this was really well done and I can't wait for future installments ^^
(er, that is if you plan on continuing this as a series o.o)
You should also try to avoid clipping. I mean, minor clipping is acceptable, but the way the female scientist clipped through the chair...ewww.
+Pepper Millers oh shit, I must have missed that.
Its so weird watching an SFM animation without any random bullshit, movements, memes...
Feels weird, but pleasant.
