@Aubrey Jarvis oh I'm laughing now :D Super secret facility where you come wasted, no one cares and moreover they let you push some weird crystal into hi powered beam machine, which, of course, explodes - sounds like HL :D
I wish I could go to work effortlessly not having to respond to any coworkers attempts at engaging me like how Gordan refuses to respond to any of his coworkers whilst instead just gives subtle gestures and an occasional thumbs up. A true inspiration I must say In the art of non-communication tactics/small talk avoidance.
Probably what makes this aoustanding is the camera angles, usually what happends with this kind of works is that the angles get boring pretty fast and you lose interest really quickly, but here he tries his best to put a good shoot everytime to avoid this effect. Plus the visuals itself are already good, without those angles it wouldnt be the same. Amazing work honestly.
The direction is very good. You put as much effort into sound as you do in visuals. Like how you have that Chernobyl style ambient music playing while the anti mass spectrometer starts going and how the sound p.o.v. cycles between muffled and clear pending on focus. This deserves to blow up even more, you really capture the survival horror side of Half-Life 1 in your other stuff too.
Wanna hear something really weird? In Bulgarian (and I suppose Ukrainian but I can't be really sure) Chernobyl means something awfully close to Black Mesa. Cherno - is black, Bilo is a flat spot between mountain peaks...
This is an S-tier animation. The scenes are superb, and the choreography is very well made, there are also so many little details in this video, that it's easier to say what is not included in this video. The only two things that I think could be improved on are the walking animations and the personality of Gordon (he looks like a sociopath until the test chamber where he shows some actual emotions). Overall this is a great video, thumbs up to you sir, for doing it all on your own
Yeah I agree, this is really good but I think Gordon just nodding to acknowledge peopled greetings or something similar would make him seem like less of a robot. Ofc this is something I had problems with the game too so I hope Im not coming off as too critical, this was a really good animation
one other little thing that needs improvement is where the walker robot is first seen as it and the character movement seemed to lag due to it on screen.
I personally think Gordon is a sociopath. He's emotionless through all the games, has absolutely no problem murdering anyone in his way including his coworkers if you played that way and has a high IQ which is commonly found in sociopaths.
We dont need a movie studio to make amazing adaptations of games, we just need highly skilled fans of a series, who are willing to provide the community with great animations/films. Hell, i would pay for a movie made by great fans to go watcg in the cinemas
I'm surprised no big streaming platform has yet to make a Half-Life live-action or anime series. Perfect mix of foreboding atmosphere, action, and horror.
late reply, but I think it's because the Half Life series truly utilizes the gaming medium to its fullest, unlike TLOU where its pretty much just a movie People can make a side story revolving around other characters in HL universe though, but the main plot? It will be changed so much that it'll be unrecognizable
Honestly. I think Gabe will never fully go into the idea of making a HL movie or a series simply because their stubborn nature at Valve. Just look at how it ended with JJ Abrams, from what I think, the main reason is that Gabe fears that the whole HL atmos and lore would change if any other movie production company or any director would shoot it. I dont think there ever will be a HL movie or series, but hope dies last, doesnt it? :)
@@burn5495I'm surprised half life community are still alive in these days, unlike ddlc fandom straight up dead after a few years of releasing a ddlc plus for marketing which is a disappointment release to be honest. Also i kinda agree for what you says.
I have no words for this short movie but I love how Gordon’s haircut is cleaned up and “rushed” because he overslept and had no time to prepare. Now I wonder… how does he look like with a ponytail?
The Half-Life 1 3d model has a ponytail, you just can't normally see it: pbs.twimg.com/media/ERf-WD_XkAAG12o.jpg Here's with the HD remodel i.ytimg.com/vi/zXjk2jKd_xo/maxresdefault.jpg
Search for "Ivan the space biker" to see Valve's first concept for the Half-Life protagonist. Be-ponytailed Grodon was somewhere between that and the 'Charlie Sheen in Arrival' we eventually got on the HL loading screens.
@@SantaCruzJokerProductions Considering the fact that this was the only negative thing in the whole video, proves that this creator did a superb job in everything else from camera angles to music and sound. The hip thing was not attacking this person's hard work; not at all. Some people need criticism in order to correct things and make it better. Now this person can tweak a little more on this hip thing and make this video totally awesome.
Brilliant!, Brilliant!, Brilliant!, I've been a hardcore Half life and Half Life 2 lover from the late 90's after quake and Doom. But this wow, loved how you changed the characters the are well pieced together. Respect for your work.
That was so cinematic and incredible, I loved it. Those moments where the camera blurs the background then refocuses were a great touch, I also loved the shot composition and choice of angles. The movement of the construction workers at 1:01 was really convincing, and the character motions overall were great. G-man was subtle and not overdone, which was perfect. You're really playing to the game's strengths in terms of storytelling with a mute protagonist and "showing not telling", especially with the dialogue. I found myself getting really immersed in the world of Black Mesa, even though I've played the game many times it felt like experiencing it for the first time. It just feels so much like a movie. And that SOUND DESIGN 16:01 was AMAZING, that whole sequence was really well constructed, I got chills when he sees Xen for the first time, then the shot at 16:39 does a great job at painting the Vortigaunts as this ominous alien threat... absolutely spectacular. You should be really proud of yourself for creating this video, I think you deserve WAY more views. You are definitely one of the better Half-Life animators here on TH-cam.
Love how you've added effects such as Motion blur/depth of field. This is an incredibly piece of work and as a huge Halflife fan this is a dream come true cause we'll probably never see a half life movie or tv series in the near future and this is as close to a netflix tv series as it can get 😅
Really spectacular work on the scene in the chamber, the way you animate Gordon reacting to the various mishaps and the gman really gives foreboding tone to the whole scene. And the way you animated the machinery itself really makes you feel like it’s a massive, dangerous, powerful piece of equipment; so that when the crystal is added you really feel the disaster. Stellar work
Oh my… this was amazing! 1 - i hope we see Gordons crush later on in the series ;) 1:25 2- i just lover the models you used and all the small detailes you included. 3- i will try to be patient.. not that easy when you see something you enjoyed so much, however. I know how hard it it so finish a movie/ series based on such an iconic game, i have tried around a million times to finish only the part you’ve made here. And it aint easy, but i wish you the best og luck and stay safe!
The mood of the game is present, and Gordon being a sociopath is quite inline with the narrative of the series to my mind. You can't make him social and not ruin the atmosphere coming from the actual game. Love what you do, man. Keep it up please
I'd say it was a design choice, the author has shown emotion on his character models before "The last Goodbye' but I don't think that experience was a good one for them. It looked a bit awkward in some parts. Their take on 'Lambda Man" basically crossed over into this though. The fact that everyone is cheerful while Gordon just gives them blank looks is both funny and awkward and I would have appreciated a bit more facial emotions especially during the microwave scene. I'd rather have a bit more "The last goodbye' with gordon then "Lambda Man' personally.
@@VancoreAMVs I got your point. Yes, nothing is ideal in this world, but I am grateful for the possibility to watch the HL story from yet another angle. It gives me a living in the game feeling somehow. God, it would be so nice to have a VR remake of the original HL one day :)
The writers who made the Halo show: "We have to show Master Cheeks face, its literally the only way we can know what he's thinking" Meanwhile the makers of this short film used a mute, wearing a helmet and managed to get a believable performance out if it.
One small detail I love is how Gordon looks so young. With a lot of fan art and the original box art and designs, Gordon looks as though he's in his late 30s, maybe even his 40s. You keep his basic design while making him look much more his age, which also helps to reinforce the idea of him being as athletic as he is. Great job.
I don't even know where to begin. So that's where I'll begin. Everything is just so fucking good in this, everything from the Gordon model to post-processing to the animating, the camera work, I haven't seen something this good in years! I've never seen your content before but I can already tell you're a god-like animator, you're insane, dude. I cannot wait for more, if I had money to spare, you have no idea how much I'd throw at this. The only disappointment is that I haven't heard of you sooner, I'm speechless.
this is SO incredibly good, and the fact that it's a one man project? that's crazy! some things i noticed that could make a difference: don't make the legs go too outwards on the walking animations, that way they'll look more natural. and another thing is make the lyp sync a liiiittle less exagerated. everything else is amazing, camera angles, shot change, etc. very good job
I feel like it fits Gordon once he has the HEV suit on, that thing was designed with protection over comfort/mobility in mind i mean have you seen how thick the groin area on the HEV suit is material wise? A lot of padding there in various forms and the only way a man could comfortably walk with that much in that area is a waddle like walk. You are right in that the walk cycle does seem a bit off for the rest but from a one man project that's a lesser thing given how good the rest of it is.
I wish I could have my memory erased back to 1998 just to be able to experience the utter joy of playing this masterpiece for the first time all over again
God damn this is focken amazing! everything from the animation to the characters, the way you made gordon look stressed, and hesitate putting the crystal into the anti mass spectrometer is just amazing!
Out of all the Half Life cinematic's out there, yours is by far the best I've ever seen! Just everything, the expressions, the choice of music, the action of every character, it was perfect! I no doubt think this took you quite a while to make, and it sure paid off. You really should be proud! :) I've always wanted to make a Half Life gmod or sfm machinima of some sort, but this is far from what I can do, and this is freaking amazing! I cannot wait for the next episode, and to see the Black Mesa story told your way.
Just found this and had to watch it. It's awesome. I love how Gordan is constantly looking around, taking everything in, even on the ride in, something he's done how many times already. And while he's waiting on things he's pacing and moving around rather than being a statue. His expressions are subtle but good. As he's heading in, he looks like he just doesn't want to be there. We've all had those days. Look forward to more
-Some scenes could have been cut out. -Some dialog and body movements could have been more naturaly delivered. -Some camera angles could have been better placed. But overal, its a solid efford into translating Half Life to a movie format.
This is truly amazing. This brought back so many memories of when I first played Half Life nearly 20 years ago. I'm lost for words at how breath taking the details are. Thank you for embarking on this project and sharing with us.
I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS MOMENT!!!!!!!!! This absolutely made my entire month. I'm going to save this for nighttime so I can watch whilst eating with all the lights off. I have such huge expectations, been waiting for so long. I'll leave another comment when I'm done watching. Good fucking job
I love the cinematography in this. I get the vibe that this iteration of Gordon Freeman is on the spectrum. I never really thought of that idea for this character until now but I think it fits really well with the silence he gives most people and could also explain why he can adapt in situations like what he is about to walk into. Hope we get to see the other expansion characters in later episodes.
This animation is pure gold. Just a few errors I noticed. Gordons name at the credits (2:45) is spelled Grodon. Theoretical in Theoretical Physics is spelt wrong, but I don’t think anyone would care either way. Other than that, this is good. Cant wait to see episode 2.
Oh my god, this is soooo good! Little details, believable movements, lighting and camera angles, this is just awesome man! I really hope u had a really nice day

@@Animux.Studios Oh? You suggesting you might make Half life 2 movie orrr Alyx oorr whatever you conjure up for fans? that'd be so neat when it comes to it!
Amazing work, that detail where Gman is standing inside the test chamber just as Gordon is pushing the sample is perfect. Also, another great addition, is when he takes out his helmet and leave it with the vortigaunts really makes sense as why Gordon is not wearing it later. This can clearly work as a series, and as a first episode, the build up to the cliffhanger at the end can engage a lot of people which are not introduced to the HL universe.
Really great work, you've got an eye for cg cinematography. Enjoyed watching every second. You brought back memories of first playing this when the og game released
Absolutely astounding! Congratulations! It is impressive to the last detail! Half-Life is a marvelous game and it should have had such beautiful movies and presentation aside it. A beautiful movie that I like to watch, and even though I have seen only 2:31 minutes of it by the time I write this comment, I am 100% certain it is of absolute beauty. I imagine it is a lot of work put in such a creation! Multiple episodes would make it even greater! Thank you very much for such a beauty! :>
This is awesome!! Brings back so many memories. The first time I played HL and did this first mission , I was blown away with what was happening. And to see it as a spectator instead.......very cool my man , thank you!!
I can't describe how beautiful and amazing this is to watch! I really love how everything seems so cinematic and lovely with the animations of the characters and movements! Keep going! 👍
This is far from perfect, but for what it is, it's EXTREMELY impressive. You don't have to look to tell it was made with genuine love and passion for the series. I think the animation that could use the most improvement is the walking, but a vast majority of it is actually quite good. Good work, can't wait to see what else you get to.
Love how Gordon walks like he had a massive leg session at the gym yesterday. I jest Animux, you did an incredible job, far better than I could do. The little bits of jank like that give it character so I'm not even sure if it's something you'd want to fix anyway.
This is brilliant! This is so good that I want to play HL1 again. The only thing which bothered me was the walking animation. No one walks this way except you've big balls oder rode a horse for the last seven years straight. Everything else was nearly perfect. It's a new perspective on a story you played a hundred times. Thank you!
This is so impressive! It was cool seeing this after playing. I feel so sorry for Gordon. He seems depressed even before the incident - no telling what he has gone through beforehand. You hear the subtle remarks throughout and especially in the break room. I wanna give him a hug. I'll bet he had hard home life. Could add to the lore.
Underrated content, this is the Half-Life movie we've been waiting for, this deserves so much more praise. This is such amazing animation, keep up the great work, would love to watch Episode 2
I liked Gordon taking off the helmet with the Vorts around. In my own headcanon, Gordon not wearing the helmet when he meets the vorts allows them to connect with him better. It also gives the Nihilanth’s access to Gordon’s mind as well at least to be able to track and teleport enemies too him. Though I couldnt justify anyone letting him in the chamber without it (tho its Black Mesa, safety is not a top priority) but you did a good job animating it happening. Maybe would have done something to transition the old vort noises to the clearer Vortagaunt speech as Gordon is exposed to them longer and longer, but otherwise fantastic work! Love the variety in models and faces!
Incredible cinematography and animation. Lighting and color correcting is on point, pacing is very good, but can be slow at times, but thats a given when adapting a games story. Sound design is excellent. All in all this has professional qualities that i can appreciate greatly. Amazing work and im excited to see more. :)
Very nice! The only two rendering things I would tweak is to have glass reflections and refractions be a bit more pronounced and tighten up the walking animation, there is something a little odd about that particular animation. Stellar job!

You can.
The part with the microwave wow. Only true fans of hl would understand how the creators really put attention to detalis in this art 7:10

@@shannsnyder6867 soda helps you see faster!
To be fair, the part with the microwave is actually canon, as Dr. Magnusson references back to it specifically in Half Life 2, Episode 2.
It's one of the most popular jokes from the game..
What about the poor guy who needed tp
2:45 "Grodon Freeman" lol
2:58 Misread “Thearetical physics” as “theatrical physics”
This was described beautifully thank you ❤
Wanna hear something really weird? In Bulgarian (and I suppose Ukrainian but I can't be really sure) Chernobyl means something awfully close to Black Mesa. Cherno - is black, Bilo is a flat spot between mountain peaks...
@@NazarovVv That is really fascinating.
that music is part of the ambience made for a xen chapter in black mesa if I remember correctly
Overall this is a great video, thumbs up to you sir, for doing it all on your own
Thank you, there's a lot of improvements will be done for the next episode
Perfect mix of foreboding atmosphere, action, and horror.
late reply, but I think it's because the Half Life series truly utilizes the gaming medium to its fullest, unlike TLOU where its pretty much just a movie
People can make a side story revolving around other characters in HL universe though, but the main plot? It will be changed so much that it'll be unrecognizable
Exactly! I mean they did one for Dead Space.

The attention to the GAME DETAIL when Gordon pushes the specimen, and it bounces a few feet in each time you "push" it. Top Tier
I have no words for this short movie but I love how Gordon’s haircut is cleaned up and “rushed” because he overslept and had no time to prepare.

It's unbelievably beautiful!

My thanks and appreciation
The walk cycles are killing this for me, like everyone's got the same serious hip problems.
yeah i was going to comment it but i hope they will fix it in the next video
I also was going to comment on that, like everyone has a deuce to drop.
It's one person working by themselves and animation is difficult so maybe ease up because what do you create? What a surprise, nothing!
@@SantaCruzJokerProductions Considering the fact that this was the only negative thing in the whole video, proves that this creator did a superb job in everything else from camera angles to music and sound.
You are definitely one of the better Half-Life animators here on TH-cam.
that was very thoughtful of you, Thank you for taking the time to write your comment truly means a lot ❤
No lo hubiera dicho mejor, me quitaste las palabras de la boca.
1 - i hope we see Gordons crush later on in the series ;) 1:25
2- i just lover the models you used and all the small detailes you included.
3- i will try to be patient.. not that easy when you see something you enjoyed so much, however. @@ReshGaming-ie2go XD
That was honestly insane.
The fact that you 1 manned what amounts to a full on cinematic film just blows my mind.
I love how even in this series Gordon absolutley refuses to sit down for that long ass tram ride.
That explains his strange walking))
I love how everyone talks to Freeman and reply to themselves or eachother in his place, it's almost as if he's a voiceless protagonist in a game

This is by far the best cinematic half life I've seen yet. Amazing.
I've seen so many animations of this chapter. Maybe this series will finally be the one to push through and do the whole game.
Great job.
yes it is one of the things i had to keep focused on
I don't even know where to begin.
Боже мой сколько же это времени, труда и нерв вложина в эту работу 😳🤩. Автору респект за работу!

-Some dialog and body movements could have been more naturaly delivered.
-Some camera angles could have been better placed.

I love the cinematography in this. I get the vibe that this iteration of Gordon Freeman is on the spectrum. Hope we get to see the other expansion characters in later episodes.

Kind of the same there, also a very good time to have a mental breakdown and lose the helmet for the rest of the game.
