Brilliant. Thanks for explaining (and sharing errors and all!); will be better than soldering in many instances.

      Glad it helped Alex.

Hi Phil (so tempted to call you Paul lol). As ever an entertaining video. So happy you worked it out in the end. Keep up the good work All the best for 2021.

Hi, I tried at one point to use connectors that had similar crimp pins and sockets. Unfortunately I didn't have the patience to keep going as I couldn't get a consistent result. Maybe I didn't have the exact right crimper. I ended up using 2.54mm 0.1 inch pitch pcb screw terminals which I soldered to some veroboard. For me this probably worked out easier as my layout is made up of T Trak modules. I admire your paitence and the fact you show all the problems you had. I only wish that with these connectors and crimpers that they would include some instructions on how to use them! Cheers John

Instructions? But no-one would read them anyway!

Hi Paul. New gadgets are always a pain to master in the first instance; the time spent mastering it must just be written off to experience. . The thing is, once you have worked out the best way to use it, is it still worth the hassle?

Very wise! For me learning the new skill is worthwhile in itself.
BTW, my name is not Paul! (but lots of people seem to think it is!!)

@@naivegauge Hi Phil. How and where did you get the name Paul?

@Paul Smith Someone misremembered my name that I had told them on another youtuber's live stream, and addressed me as Paul in a comment. Then other subscribers started calling me Paul as well! It is a bit of a running joke now.
I do not confirm what my real life name is in the comments (it is not Paul!), but some people know who I am!

From my experience of using that style of crimping tool your meant to load the female or male part in the jaws of the tool then squeeze the jaws until it just holds the connector in place then insert the wire and finally squeeze all the way.

That is what I figured out by the end of the video. Still need a bit more practice, but it comes together eventually. The finished result is very good if it is done correctly.

@@naivegauge yeah I commented half way into the video then saw you mastered it by the end lol keep the videos coming 👍🏻

The crimp should also pierce the cable as well so you shouldn’t need to strip it

Rodney, that is very interesting. I will give it a try. thanks.

@@naivegauge Did you have time to try without striping ? Thanks a lot for sharing your full experiment(s)
