Unfortunately Jim Beam dropped the Black Label’s 8 year age statement in 2015, but the current bottling is assumed to contain whiskey older than 6 years - making it older than other bourbons at a similar price point. This bottle is quite possibly the most overlooked Jim Beam bourbon. At $20 and 6-8 years old, are we missing something?

My dad is a loyal white label Beam guy who is not overly impressed by my collection of sought-after bourbons. So I've bought him this and the blue label in the past, just to keep him in the Beam family yet give him something a little different. We both like this one.

Wow! Never did I imagine I'd see this bottle in a review! I live down in the Caribbean and this is the only decent bottle of whiskey I have found on the shelf in all my years here. I thought I was settling when I tell people I enjoy it but I'm glad to see I'm not totally alone on that 🤪

I really like their Distiller's cut but it's gone now. The black is also a good sipper, I drink a lot of the lower proofs now, coming full circle from going all out on high proofs for a few years. Appreciating whiskey means liking all whisk(e)ys, for me anyway.

After being less than thrilled with Knob Creek 9, I wanted to try their "budget alternative" and got one. I was surprised that it's pretty good! For the same price, I don't think it'll dethrone WT101 to me, but sometimes I want something lighter and easier to drink and this would do it. To be fair, I still need to try the under $20 offerings of WT81 and JB White.

I have had Jim Beam Black several times over the years and I am actually drinking it at as I watch this video. I think it's a pretty decent bourbon for the price. It mixes well and is not at all unpleasant when served neat or on the rocks. I am also a fan of their Double Oak offering. Of course, there are better bourbons out there but they tend to come with a higher price tag and I don't like using the more expensive bourbons for mixed drinks. The Jim Beam Black is nice because as I stated I can enjoy it mixed in a cocktail or drink it neat. A pretty versatile bottle to have on your shelf. Cheers.

Good on ya if you like it, and can find it for 20. Here in NC, we are, alas, a “control“ state where everything is allegedly MSRP (with occasional sales, rarely more than 10%). This comes in at 27 (!) for us. So, it’s real easy to forget this bottle, as it’s not only competing with the much cheaper Evans, but it’s more expensive than higher proof workhorses like WT101, OF100, Ezra 99, OGD BiB, Rebel 100 … hell, even Old Tub.

I think the evolution of aging with this one was at first, that it was "tripple aged" in different bottle to this one still, which was 6 years and above and then they changed it to this one - extra aged, so what I heard is it may be around 5 years, but who knows, probably they still put in some well aged juice, but together with something younger like 5 years or so....

I revisited this not too long ago and wasn't crazy about it. Got a stale corn and hay essence that just wasn't to my liking. If I can find Repeal Batch, I'd take that over this in a heartbeat. I think Evan Williams Black tops this (could do a Double Bass on those) and the 90 proof Ezra Brooks handily tops both for me.

Tried my first bourbons ever recently and went in blindly and simply picking what I could find as an airplane bottle, and of course ended up with white Jim and ol' No.7 like a true beginner. They weren't bad enough to make me write off bourbon entirely and I've done some research and now Jim Beam Black is among the contenders for my next bourbon and my first proper bottle, alongside Evan Williams BiB, Wild Turkey 101 and Buffalo trace. Any favorites among these for a beginner profile with caramel and baking spices? Don't mind 100 proof, have had some strong gins in my time.

I’ll probably end up buying a bunch all at once and blind flight it to really get the differences.

Had it before and far prefer it to the white label, still a little thin but the age makes a difference. The biggest thing this has going against it imo is Evan Williams BiB for less and WT101/OGD bonded for a bit more. For me it's a "drink it if it's there, but wouldn't seek it out" dram.
