Just a few years ago, if I mentioned F1, most everyone here in America had no clue about it and couldn't name 1 driver. Now, we have 3 races here and an explosion of new fans! Credit Netflix Drive to Survive for 90% of creating the popularity. Its nuts! I like that the sport has grown but also not because the cost of admission has skyrocketed.

Both were bought by Hedge Funds. Not to mention Liberty Media another Hedge Fund as well (that became a private equity firm and is now a multi-media company) including F1 itself for $4.4 Billion. Aston Martin just sold a stake for $100 million to Arcos Capital Investment which owns stake in 20 pro sports teams. The sport is sooo expensive, it will not survive unless you manipulate results, work with betting syndicates, chat with billionaire owners and billionaire enthusiasts, make some deals, ensure complete secrecy and favored results(at a cost) and make sure the teams all benefit too. This video is one of those that people would ordinarily think is an education and so enlightening. Actually it is intended squash any conspiracies about the money deals etc...F1 and motor racing has ALWAYS been the worst for fixing. That was just when the manufacturers were playing that game. Now, there is a LOT of money floating about. Complex business arrangements with many different key players in the motor industry plus finance. Its a game. Liberty spotted the potential. They know how to spin multiple stories and get the piublic to follow. Exclaiming, as they do each ridiculous thing they see. That is how to attract viewers and leverage that power for those who in powerful places. From an ex F1 fan. Make that ex SUPERFAN. I am out one time.

F1 is more action and chaos. It is also more pretentious drama. In NASCAR out of 100 drivers you can justify calling 2 or 3 "Ah01es". In F1 all the drivers are "Ah01es" but you overlook that to like one.

Very valid point. But I disagree... The sport has blown up in the States because of the show. 💯. And I've seen a couple people kinda drift away. But, I think the residual fans are here to stay (I'm American, watching for 23 years)... I actually got annoyed when Liberty took over.. I thought they were going to americanize the sport (which they did in excellent fashion, by giving more access to drivers and not restricting social media posts, insights etc) they've made blunders tho, that Miami gp intro with all of the embarrassing attachments made me roll my eyes....the sports gonna continue to grow. I'm so excited, and I'm glad I finally have fellow employees and friends here in the States that I can talk to about a race instead of nba, NFL, and all of the other sports here... Hell, I had three people the other night at watching for the first time.. I loved answering questions for them. ☺

@@jordan_m_wong don't get offended by these comments.. Been seeing them for years. It's kinda like... Those old metal fans. Or hip hop fans.. Or any kind of fan of that tries to gatekeep "their" sport... I've always welcomed newbies in all Of the things I love... We were once there too. Why would you try to deny new fans? It just doesn't make sense.. Yes, the Netflix series was over the top, but that's just editing and business.. I rolled my eyes at many points, thinking, yeah, that inchident wasn't that serious, ☺.. But they play it up for ratings.... If even 5 percent of the new people stays and becomes lifelong fans, it's honestly just a plus. ✌️

Would love to see this exact outline used to describe F1 in 1968. The only race I have ever attended was Monaco that year.
I was a foreign exchange student. We all sat on the terrace of the casino/paris restaurant and ordered horse meat hamburgers. Didn't know it until later.
It seemed a small and comfortable racing. There were many beautiful people there, I wondered which ones were spies.

I think the 10 team get about 2 billion dollar from F1 owner Liberty media with Ferrari leading the money at over 300 million possibly 400 million.
The engine manufacturers likely earn about 15 million per client team (but they get extra uncapped cost as an engine manufacterer not listed)
I guess that sponsoring will bring about 30-120 million in income for teams.
And commercial activities might bring them 10-50 million as well.
The teams cost about 240-400 million to run each year.
Capped 150 million for the race team, cars and engines
50-120 million for the uncapped costs
25-120 million for the drivers plus 2 or 3 big earners in the team that are exempt

But, I'm amazed at how the sponsors are the investors, who then benefit from the brand advertising, and so on, and so on. Then we all benefit from the technology that ends up in our cars.
