    The fact that this Impulse is being compared to a Blaser in a favorable way is pretty promising.

    • @chrisparkin431
      @chrisparkin431  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's Nothing like a Blaser other than you don't turn the bolt to unlock it. The same can be said for Haenel NXT (which in fairness has the nearest slight similarities) or Beretta BRX which is a million miles away from a Blaser in terms of mechanical function or quality. So much 'volume' on the internet is hard to ignore but can many justify their opinion?

    I love that Savage is making less expensive rifles that produce results similar to high-end rifles. I especially like the modularity of the Savage. I am left handed so I can make this rifle work great for me. Also, with the Acufit Stock I can adjust the length-of-pull and comb height to fit me. The accutrigger is awesome!
    I just wish that Savage would support barrel/caliber change options. It would be very fast and easy if they would sell the barrel extension, recoil lug and barrel nut to install on different barrels and then they could be changed out in minutes.

    Very interesting video. I am very interested in the Impulse Predator in 22-250 as a longer range foxing rifle. Your experience in normal (far from perfect) shooting conditions are more useful than watching someone punching paper on a still day. The comparison to the Blaser was very interesting. I think it’s good to know that the Savage gives good accuracy and that the straight pull action works well. Thanks for producing this video in this format.

      @@chrisparkin431 Target shooting isn’t of much interest to me. I love field shooting and being out in the bush enjoying the whole experience of hunting. I live in the south of Western Australia where pest control for farmers is important. Paper target shooting is just a means to sight a rifle in and make sure my ammunition has sufficient hunting accuracy. The real enjoyment is out in the field for me. Each to his own though. I sometimes get the sense that some shooters don’t really get that many opportunities to get out in the field. So they make a virtue of the shooting they can do. Hence the intense interest in small group sizes. Even though out in the field your are never going to achieve (or need) all that really fine accuracy you can get at the range.

    Thanks for doing a genuinely good video, with some real world windy field conditions. Try looking at USOG channel review of the Big Game version of the Savage Impulse as well. The Impulse Hog Hunter is a excellent example of mass production quality and accuracy from a long term rifle manufacturer south of the border. Currently shooting the same version of the Hog Hunter in a 300 win mag with a 24 inch barrel, mainly because my prefered calibre 7mm rem mag is not yet available for the Impulse. The Impulse line utilizes many of the higher end features of the Model 110 rifle lineup. Namely the 110 barrel, 110 metal magazine, accu-stock front aluminium rail bedding system, accu-fit shooter "best fit" system and accu-trigger. Would be nice if Savage offered a African version chambered in 375 Ruger. A popular calibre in the Canadian north for big bears used by many here with the Savage 110 Bear Hunter lineup. Heym chambered the SR30 in 375 Ruger and was/is excellent, although the Heym requires to more force to close to firing position when compared to the Savage of similar design. Prefer the Savage, and I firmly believe the Impulse will get even smoother bullet cycling with long term use. I just wish they offered more calibres.

    If Savage thinks I will order their Impulse Predator Model in .22-250 with a 20 inch barrel, think again Savage. Why not just make it a 16.1 inch barrel? A 22-250 requires at LEAST a 24 inch barrel. I would prefer a 26" barrel. I did not say a thick barrel, a lightweight barrel 26 inches long.

    It may have been the way you minced around about it but, old mate didn't seem to have a clue about primary extraction which, is always the concern with M16 lug type straight pulls like the Beretta BX 1. For the most part for those who only use factory ammunition there will probably be no issues with extraction but, that's not generally the case with handloaders who keep tighter headspace & slightly larger diameters fwd of the solid web.
    That particular example you reviewed seems smoother than other review examples I've seen.

      Because the bolt doesn't release unless you either push the button or pull the trigger. I never noticed him push it unnecessarily, although I did notice that his thumb did sit next to or on the button most of the time (probably just from muscle memory).

      Mine is smooth as glass, you just need to make sure you actually straight pull AND push to seat the bolt. I rubbed mine with some molybdenum disulfide powder into the bolt when I first got it, and that made it even smoother. Now, after about 200 rds (300 win mag), it functions smooth and has been 100% reliable. Always a tight sub MOS grouping as well running a Vortex Viper PST II 4-16x50 scope using Warne rings.

    Savage is leavings things out. First....the impulse is not a savage 110! It shares nothing with it. The impulse has its own barrel, stock. I dont know what you have there. Some even say the fluted barrel is on the impulse. Thats from the savage model " 10 ".

    • @bearfootbowhunter3054

      Thought they stared the same barrel?

    • @gpearce11
      @gpearce11 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It obviously uses its own stock, because it's a completely new action, but I don't know where you heard everything else is unique, because it definitely uses standard Savage barrels (small shank for 300 WM and smaller, large shank for 300 WSM and bigger) and Savage magazines.
      Also, while the Impulse "Hog Hunter" model used here doesn't have a fluted barrel, the Impulse "Big Game" does, so whoever told you that wasn't wrong.
