6:09 0 for 18 means that in his last 18 turns hitting, he had gotten 0 hits. So this was a big hit for him personally since he had not been batting well recently.

when they spoke of "Dusty Baker finally has his ring"..it means the manager finally wins his first world series as a coach. He was close with all the other teams that he coached but always fell short.

The crowd atmosphere in these postseason games is supercharged, but during the regular season the intensity can vary, and many are not close to sold out. A typical game includes a dozen moments of action and excitement and plenty of time to talk to your friends. It can resemble a picnic atmosphere, a tailgate party, or a pub, plus amplified music and noise to try to hype up the home team's fans.

I am surprised that no one has mentioned that the Cardinals and Cubs will be playing 2 games in London on June 23 & 24 as part of MLB trying to expand the sport in new markets. Something you might want to attend so you don't have to travel to the US to see a baseball game.

In the past the Red Sox played the Yankees at the London Stadium/Olympics... If the British desire to buy baseball gloves, aluminum bats, and baseballs, that kit is sold at the PX at RAF Lakenheath where the USAF bases fighters for NATO... You may have to bribe an American based there to get the goods... And if you desire to learn baseball fundamentals from hitting, throwing, catching, and pitching, watch a game there even at the Little League level... There are numerous videos on the internet showing baseball fundamentals, basic rules, etc. available to watch as well...Highlight reels don't reveal basic fundamentals...

I saw another comment recommending the 2016 World Series and the 2004 ALCS as your next set of games to react to. I couldn’t agree more. Ken Burns’ Baseball is definitely a must-watch too. Also, a little personal recommendation from me is “How to score 10 runs in the first inning and lose” by Secret Base. That video really gives you a taste of just how inherently chaotic baseball is.

12:10 Players and coaches on a team that wins the World Series receive an expensive ring as a personal trophy. So saying that someone “gets a ring” or “has three rings” just refers to them winning championships. Dusty Baker played many years in the league as a hitter and won the world series once. After he finished his playing career, he has managed many successful teams for many years, but they had all failed to win a World Series, sometimes in dramatically disappointing fashion. He is very well-liked by people all around the league, so even though many people do not like the Astros, they were happy for Dusty to finally win a championship as a manager.

I highly recommend you check out pitching ninja's youtube channel, he highlights all the best pitchers throughout the entire league. He breaks down how the batter sees the pitches and shows overlays of how all the pitches move.

At 8:24 is just a bat weight for the hitters warming up.
When the guy on the Phillies held his bat straight, he was attempting to lay down a bunt. The problem here was he already had 2 strikes on his count and attempting an unsuccessful bunt with 2 strikes is an automatic out. He is some of their better hitters so it was kind of odd to everybody why Schwarber tried to bunt there. Many say that was basically Philly waving the white flag. The Astros have one of the best pitching staffs in all of baseball so they were trying anything to get on base.

That at bat was one of the most talked about and most criticized of the series. Most people were saying, "What they heck is he doing???" IMO it was a bonehead decision. The risks were just too high for any possible reward. At best you get on first base. At worse, exactly what happened. He didn't get beaten by the pitcher, he beat himself and self-inflicted mistakes are a no-no in any sport. Make the other team beat you, don't beat yourself. Overall it was a great series and the Phillies did well. But that play was really bad. Especially for a good hitter.

loved this reaction series. One of the great world series of all time is the 2016 one between the Chicago Cubs and Cleveland Indians. Chicago hadn't won a world series since 1908 (and made one since 1945!) while Cleveland hadn't won since 1948, the two largest droughts in the sport. Those two great, loyal, dedicated fan bases got rewarded with not only one of the best series of all time, but probably the greatest last game of a series in history.

“Baseball” by Ken Burns is a great documentary series if you want to learn about the history of the game. It’s a good way to get an overview of how the game developed as well as important players and teams from the past that you might hear referenced.
Pitching Ninja is a great account for learning about how pitchers hold the ball for different pitches, as well as different strategies that they use to get batters out. Searching “pitching ninja grips” should give you plenty of options.

That was great to watch you react to an entire series. As you asked questions I would yell back at my screen as if you could hear me. LOL! One of the interesting things about these highlights was the fact the editor used both the radio announcers from Philadelphia and Houston. So you were getting their enthusiastic and emotional coverage of the games. Also, you heard a lot of colloquialisms from them. Since baseball is a game that has been played since the 1850s the players have created their own language for different moments and those get passed on to all of us through the announcers (some who were former players and managers). K = strike out, jak = Home run, little looper - a hit into the outfield that lands in front of the outfielder. Meat = young player.... There are so many that I'm sure books are written on it. Lastly, would love to see you react to some of the best of videos on the game. Many are available for you to react to. Me personally, I have been a San Francisco Giants fan since I could walk going to games with my dad. Now I'm in my 50's and got to finally see my Giants win a World Series in 2010. It was a lifelong dream. Then they did it again in 2012 and 2014. These were moments I got to share with my kids who got to experience to joy of baseball.

It's fun watching you guess what these terms mean!
As for the atmosphere, be careful which game and time of year you go to. These are World Series games, not regular season games, so they are the biggest ones. You won't typically see a crowd like this or crazy, electric environment in a regular game. Choose carefully so you can find a good experience. However, I would recommend that you attend an American college football game. You'll have a much crazier, amazing environment with larger crowds and more nonstop action. Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge on a Saturday night vs a rival is always a good pick. Perhaps you should watch the 2020 college football playoff games on your TH-cam channel to get an idea of what they're like. Football is a bigger sport than baseball and has been for a while, but college football is definitely the craziest.

The Cards vs Cubs series in London is between rivals that is always a sell out at their home parks with intense fan support and loudness. Not so sure the British crowd will give you the same excitement.
Flying or sailing to the States to watch a baseball game is a very expensive trip. I suggest Lakenheath Base east of Cambridge and watch the American’s play an amateur game, most likely little league, where you can ask family members lots of questions and get answers as the games are played. One afternoon of little league baseball will teach you much.
Of course, finding someone to escort you onto the base at the proper time will be the difficult task. But you should not find it difficult to meet local British working on the base at their local pubs. Money saved = thousands of British pounds.

Richie Sexton of the Brewers hit one near there and about the same height when the ballpark was still in its first outfield configuration with a hill in center field and the aforementioned flagpole Sexton's ball hit - which would have been a HR if it hadn't hit the pole. He got a triple because he thought it was a HR and jogged the bases until he saw the ball coming back in. I actually talked to then Astros 3rd baseman, Geoff Blum, (now the Astros TV color analyst) and he said Sexton was really pissed off.

10:38 so what he is trying to do this is bunt but if you do that and the ball fouls off and you already have 2 strikes you are then out. Also intresting thing about that split finger fastball pitcher is the Phillies was his former team. 8:20 this is what we call a mound visit basically there is a certain amount you can have of this per pitcher but typically if it is that big and it has the manager out there either A its an injury, B a fight is breaking out, or C the pitcher is getting benched which is the most common and that is what they did there calling another pitcher or a reliever to close that inning out from the bullpen. 12:20 so what they mean by ring is when a team wins the AL, NL, or WS they get a ring to celebrate it of course if you win the AL and then win the World Series in that same playoff run then you just get a World Series ring. Dusty Baker had gotten over 2,000+ wins as a manager but one thing he didn't do until now was win the World Series as a manager he tried with many teams and got close with a few but until 2022 he was unable to get that World Series win.

Our(Astros) catcher was playing with a broken bone in his throwing hand since Aug 28th, and our third baseman broke his finger in this game. I would ask him the very same type of questions you were about the rules and the terminology. I hope you get to go see a game live. I reccomend night games that have fireworks scheduled after. MLB games are bigger than basketball and about as big as football games as far as attendance goes. Average MLB stadium will hold about 45,000 fans. Just dont go in the middle of summer, those games can be hot and the teams are in the middle of a 162 game schedule. The games pick up in action and intensity towards September when teams are pushing for the playoffs. You get less movement on faster pitches, but the split finger is not much slower than a typical 4-seam fastball (how you hold it). There are plenty of youtube videos on the different pitches, how they move, and how to throw them, though doing it is far more difficult than understanding it. Enjoyed seeing your reaction, thanks. I'm a Houston fan, so this was glorious for me, but a lot of respect to the Phillies -- classy group of guys, and could have easily gone the other way if the Astros played more like they did against the Braves or if Phillies didn't have that little slump period starting in game 5. You can watch the playoff championship runs of previous teams-- the 2017 Astros run was great, and the Phillies recently had a world series win with a dramatic lead-up, etc.. Hope you get to enjoy a game -- if you happen to come see the Astros, get you some good bbq and /or fajitas. I recently set about learning what the HELL cricket was about with the hopping over the wall and back and the sticks, etc, so I know how it feels, lol. Cheers!

At 10:51 he "bunted". Why would he bunt in that situation? It was probably due to the fielder's position. It's possible to catch the fielder's off guard and get a sneaky hit like that. It's used if the hitter's extremely fast.

6:00 "0 for 18" means that in his last 18 at bats, he has no hits.

    Support Boston.
It’s the most historic franchise; only our biggest rival (NY Yankees) are comparable.
We also have the crown jewel of all ballparks. It’s like going back in time 100 years, simply walking in the Ballpark; it’s the oldest pro ballfield in the MLB. Only Wrigley field in Chicago comes close.

0/18 as a batter the last 18 times at bat without a hit. a hit is only counted when they make it on base via bat on ball or hit a homerun.

A baseball game is great but that is if some hitting action does happen or there is a no hitter but there is a certain amount of games that fall into boring snooze fest one run games and i dont mean like game 3 of the ALDS Astros Mariners as that was a tense and very good one but not many of those 1-0 or 2-1 games are that and that is the risk of a baseball game but you can get a beautiful experience.

Since the Cubs are going to London this year, you might as well join us Cubs fans in pulling for one of the most iconic franchises in all of sport. 😀 If you become a cards fan, I'll never watch you again! 😉 After that fly to Chicago and see a game at Wrigley. It is a singular experience unlike any other in baseball. You could say the same for Fenway in Boston.

If your looking for more baseball content to watch, you could watch the Astro's and Phillie's playoffs up to the World Series. Either each game like this or a condensed one video highlights of each of the teams games.

Hate to spam the comments, but I still cannot believe all 4 Phillies hitters swung at the first pitch they saw in the 9th… Down 3 runs?.. That’s just shocking..
They should know better than that.. In that situation I’m trying to get on base any way I can, meaning I take until a strike is thrown (trying for a walk), and I might even take until 2 strikes are thrown..

I'm not biased (go astros!). but i highly recommend rooting for the underdog diamondbacks. they seam to be getting better every year and they have some of the best pitches in the NL. almost all of their games have been extremely entertaining and fun to watch last year. Im not pushing you or anything, other teams i recommend are the New York Mets, San Diego padres, and New york Yankees. Have an extraordinary day!
