Congratulations I from Sacramento move to AZ 2yrs & looking at starting my own business here with a 7x14 dump trailer junk removal and hauling rock & etc.
We have been doing gravel for a year with our dump trailer and are looking to get into junk removal. Getting a wireless remote for the trailer was a game changer.
If you cut the crank part of the crank handle and have your welder weld a bolt or nut to the remaining stub you could use a impact to raise and lower the trailer.
Great rundown on your side hustle. Good job getting set up w/ an accountant. Well worth paying for this tax-deductible business advice. Best wishes for continued success.
Not to be a party pooper this was a great video but I reccomend not leaking your adress. Now that you have shown how the trailer is locked up, that there is a trackers so they just need to look for it and disable it, and where it stays primarly it is a primary target for theft. As well as you have shown near the houses so theifs just need to be on the lookout for those key subjects while searching for your trailer. Again, this is a recommendation no need to take my opinions to heart.
I have been in construction all my life and I am not young anymore. It pained me to see you jump up in that trailer (:45 ) each time you loaded a small box. I know you are young but just because you can do it doesn't mean you should do it. I was always told to work smarter not harder, the work will tough enough as it is. Load as many boxes on the back as you can and then jump up in the trailer and move them forward. Great video!
Great points there! I actually ended up getting out of the junk removal game a few months ago to focus on my other business and spend more time with my family. I guess my knees will be happier that way too! Thanks for watching!
Ive been following your vids since some of your first. I started mowing lawns last spring as something to do on my days off and put some equipment to use I had for my farm. I ended up buying a one ton dump truck and started pulling a chipper around for a local arborist. I started making more in one day than I was in a month mowing lawns. The truck has allowed me to diversify what I can do and made all the difference as the mowing was so resource intensive given the geography of my area. I did my first junk removal a month ago and have firewood seasoning for delivery next year. I have paid cash for all my equiopment but it's really parts or payments and you only get paid when it's running. One thing that would cause me angst was seeing you get rid of scrap metal. I do have space to keep scrap and it looks like that would be a challenge for you. Sometimes there have been weekends where I will cruise Saturday morning with my son in the truck and pick up scrap and once a month take it in. It's fun and makes some extra cash which I split with him. It's fun time together like in your earlier videos. The junk removal job I did had a bunch of metal roof pieces and old metal office furniture. So I'm getting paid twice for that job once the scrap pile gets big enough. Thanks for vids and best wishes for continued success!
Heck yea, that’s what it’s all about! I love hearing these kinds of stories. It’s funny how you can work hard (such as in mowing) or you can work with equipment and charge more (though of course it takes some money to get going). They don’t always net the same per hour but the more tools you have at your disposal the more options you have to make money. I would love to do scrapping and one day soon we plan to buy a house with land to do more of that kind of thing. Would you ever be interested in doing a video interview with me? If so, send me an email at russ@reesehaulingandcleanup.com
Have you used one of those tools with a magnet attached to pick up nails at the dump or work sites ? If you obtain a metal detector from a job, or buy one that should work as well . What was your decision to use boards instead of plywood on your trailer ? Have you ever advertised in community newsletters ? Happy New Years to you and your family . May 2024 bring you happiness and be bountiful for you . I appreciate all the info that you provide on your vlogs . Thank you 🙏
Yea, the dump I go to actually has guys go around with rolling magnets and pick up nails every so often. I have watched them do it in between loads which is pretty awesome. We have a great dump. As for the boards over plywood, I wanted something that would be stronger than plywood and make for a smoother finish painted so the boards just made sense to me. They have been really durable and I think I’m happy I went that route. Thank you for your support this year - I look forward to more work, videos and so forth next year! Happy New Year!
I rent mine to roofers I drop off take my ball you can swap the bolts with grade 8 pins at tractors supply’s and charge $300 plus dump fee. I’m getting $900 a month min
Sweet! I have an equipment tracker from GPS and track out of Arizona. It works really well and there is no subscription, it was about $250 but I like the way it texts and emails me the location at whatever intervals I want.
There are a lot of videos that would do a better job explaining it than I could. But basically you just sign up for one, input the requested info, they send you a postcard with a code to confirm you are real and those are the basics as I recall. Good luck in your new business!
Hey thanks for the content, I’m just down the way in Modesto buying a moving business. Was thinking of adding in Junk Removal out here. After a year in business, do you think that $1000 per day everyone talks about is achievable?
Congrats on your new acquisition. I think it would be tough to say without knowing anything about your business. It’s certainly possible with the right setup, marketing, and so forth but I have no information to give you advice realistically.
Commercial auto is what you’d want in addition to general liability. Commercial auto runs $4k plus a year, while general liability is pretty affordable about $400 a year or so.
Great video thank you. Can you tell me what you are charging for dump trailer rental per day in 2024 and also for junk removal also considering multiple trips from same customer and more than one dump
I would charge $275 base fee which includes delivery of the trailer for a 24 hour rental parked. That includes up to 1 ton of debris, anything over gets $110/ton overage fees. Additional days are $15/day. Hope that helps.
How do you protect yourself from environmentally hazardous material? I.e. asbestos, lead paint, chemicals, etc. Those items can easily be put into your load, when you get to the dump, you are liable for your load...
I put down trash bag liners for paint and stuff so it doesn’t spill and they have a special hazardous waste area at the dump to accept that kind of stuff.
Thanks for sharing. You can sell nice items and get paid twice from 2 job, or you can give it away. Otherwise, you will have junk laying around your own house.
You are concerned about your welded on tie-downs inside the bed catching on stuff so you had them removed. At 10:07 looking at your trailer I would think you would be more concerned about those long-ass bolts sticking out the side of the wood that you can rip your face off on. You need to cut them off just for safety and sand them down smooth or cover them with silicone or something after you cut them.
Do you have your customers sign an agreement releasing you of all liability? What does licensing cost over all? What does the law require as far as things must have on your trailer to be legal?
Under 26k pounds the only licenses I need were for the City and County. So business licenses to operate in each municipality and or county I serve. The truck and trailer of course require commercial auto insurance which isn’t cheap.
Yea it most definitely could. The landscape trailer is probably easier to load with it being lower, especially if it has a ramp. You don’t need a big trailer or a dump trailer to do this.
Curious about the cost of your insurance? Is it business insurance or just extra truck insurance? What's the ball park cost? Also, what license is required? Thanks!
General liability was about $400/year. Commercial Auto was quoted to me at $5k for the year and to be clear, I never purchased commercial auto doing it as a side business due to being cost prohibitive. As for license, no special license to run my truck and trailer, just a business license from the city.
Got to be hauling a lot of junk to pay for that new truck. You’re working for nothing for a very long time before you can put money away to invest. I would have kept the Tundra for awhile. Everybody does this because it’s easy. Will drive the prices down. Where I live there is only 1 dump. They charge $100/ton to dump. Wouldn’t make anything.
🎉pooper. Don’t rain on folks parades. Don’t listen to this dude. Some folks just hate cause they ain’t. Your response tells me you’ll do just fine and the haters don’t bother you
Combination of yard signs, postcards (sent about 800), networking and referrals from existing clients. Yard signs have been the best ROI as far as paid marketing goes for me.

Right on brotha! It’s a small world.
Thank u. I will definitely keep you posted how it goes & might call you and ask u some questions if you don't mind.
Thank you for all the information! Wish you much success in 2024
Thank you so much! I’m glad folks find it helpful.
We have been doing gravel for a year with our dump trailer and are looking to get into junk removal. Getting a wireless remote for the trailer was a game changer.
Sweet! I don’t mind the wire personally but I only dump trash, not really gravel or rock for precision dumping
If you cut the crank part of the crank handle and have your welder weld a bolt or nut to the remaining stub you could use a impact to raise and lower the trailer.
That’s an interesting idea, thank you!
I’ve been wondering why I don’t see this more. Sounds like a simple solution to something that you use all the time
What tracker do you have and what keeps it powered?
Hello.
Thank you for the video and straight numbers, cheers and good luck! 🎉
You’re welcome!

Thanks DJ, that’s a good call. I’ll think about how to unlist it and take it out of my videos.
Thief’s are not watching business videos😂😂😂 they are smoking crack, meth etc.
Yes there is also allot of weird creeps on the internet keep kids and familly off it is a reall problem
Not gonna lie man, I’m pretty jealous of that truck and trailer setup
Thanks man
Yep, nice setup for sure!
To unhook the trailer off the truck you can also use a high quality floor/car jack. It will make life much easier.
Totally, I have considered that.
put air bags on your truck@@RollingWithRuss

Great video. I looking to add this service to my LawnCare business
You should! As I hear it is more profitable per hour than lawn care, just less regular.
Good honest video! Wishing you nothing but the best in 2024 🎉

This information is gold!!
Glad you are finding it helpful!
D rings. They make a recessed style.
Good to know for the next trailer!
Great video! Thanks for posting, can you go over agreements you would have with customers.
All my agreements are verbal and then I have them sign a quote. For dumpster rentals I have a one page contract they sign.
Thank you for sharing
You bet!
Thank you for sharing ❤
Anytime, thanks for watching!
do you have a link to the tracker that's on your trailer?
im looking to get something like that
Just search GPS And Track on Google. They are out of Arizona.
Great tips, thank you.
Glad it was helpful!

I wounder if they make on board trailer scales like on the big trailers
I’m sure they do, not sure about on dump trailers though.
The truck scales operate from the air bags. Install an air ride system
Install air weigh scales.
@@hawkeyetec they also work on solid block Hendrickson

Awesome video!
What kind of insurance does this line of work require ?
I’m assuming the insurance is mostly for the trailer rent out?
Commercial auto is what you’d want in addition to general liability. Commercial auto runs $4k plus a year, while general liability is pretty affordable about $400 a year or so.
What do you use to track your trailer thank you
It’s called GPS and Track, a company out of Arizona makes the equipment tracker and it uses satellites. No subscription.

@@RollingWithRuss Do you charge accordingly? In the PNW, there is an upcharge for hazardous material.
Hey mate, was just wondering how you got customers in the beginning? Keep it up! love from Australia!
Word of mouth, Facebook, then asked for Google reviews and that really helped get me new customers (Google local search). Good luck to you!!
Thanks for sharing. You can sell nice items and get paid twice from 2 job, or you can give it away. Otherwise, you will have junk laying around your own house.
Totally, I sell some of the stuff on Facebook marketplace and donate a lot too
awesome video
I appreciate it!
Nuts in your battery box.
Removable “Blue” Loctite or Lock Nuts👍Either will do.
Like the wood wall 👍
Thanks for the tips, Chris!
What kind of GPS tracker do you use on your dumpsters?
Just Google “GPS and Track”, that’s the company name. They are out of Arizona. Been very happy with them.
You are concerned about your welded on tie-downs inside the bed catching on stuff so you had them removed. At 10:07 looking at your trailer I would think you would be more concerned about those long-ass bolts sticking out the side of the wood that you can rip your face off on. Never had an issue with the bolts. They’re unsightly but my face doesn’t really get close to the bolts. I appreciate your concern though!
Great honest video.
Thank you!
What's the name of the GPS tracker you're using(with no monthly service fee)? I'm currently using an airtag. Great video! Thks
It’s just called GPS and Track, they are out of Arizona.

I have a landscape trailer. Single axle and a 2007 Tahoe LS. Could my set up work?
Yea it most definitely could. The landscape trailer is probably easier to load with it being lower, especially if it has a ramp. You don’t need a big trailer or a dump trailer to do this.
do you have plans to quit the 9to5 and go full time?
Nope I don’t actually. I make way more in my day job than I could ever make doing junk removal unless I had 10+ employees and multiple trucks.
Hi congrats on your first year!!
Did u buy your ford 350 brand new or was it used?
Bought it new, and thank you! It’s been a fun adventure.
Powered Hydraulic Jack about $1200.
Still good investment. Time saver.
Good idea, thank you!
I also have tundra want to get in dump trailer business.
Do it, the sooner you start the sooner you can learn and earn!
Hey dude, what is the best first trailer right now? I really want to get into this.
Man, that’s tough. Best quality might be Diamond C or Maxd. I would stay away from Big Tex and Texas Pride, my Loadtrail has been pretty good.
How much did you gross and net, sorry I tried finding this information.
Grossed $12,500. Net was right around $5,800

do you scrap metal at a recycling yard
Not unless I have a ton of metal to make it worth it, otherwise it’s not worth the time.
GPS service do you use?
It’s called GPS and Track. They are out of Arizona, highly recommend them.
Great vid and information. I’m looking to start the same side gig in SoCal, maybe we can chat sometime.
Yeah for sure
Does the trailer battery charge while you drive?
No not really.
what GPS tracker do you use?
It’s from a company called GPS and Track, they are located in Arizona. Highly recommend them.
May I ask how you licensed and insured?
With a business license from the cities I work in and then commercial/general liability insurance.
What weight can they carry in the dumpster
About 7,000 pounds is the limit.

How did you justify buying the f350. I’ve been thinking about the upgrade but my dump business alone can’t afford that type of purchase
Trust me, the junk business doesn’t pay for it… it’s all from my day job.
