Reviving a cheap truckbed trailer
มุมมอง 375หลายเดือนก่อน
In this video, I buy an old trailer off craigslist for hauling stuff around and moving across country. This will be towed behind my wife's CRV as we move to Indiana and eventually be used on the property we purchased behind a UTV or ATV. Watch as my son and I replace the lights and give it a new life! Camp Chef 3x (My favorite RVing upgrade ever)
มุมมอง 172หลายเดือนก่อน
In this video I share how much I love my Camp Chef 3x and why I enjoy cooking meals so much more outside than inside. This would be similar to a Blackstone or other type of flat top outdoor grill. This runs off propane and costs about $350 new at Bass Pro Shops or Home Depot.
Biggest Flaw with Ford F350 (1.5 year review, high output diesel)
มุมมอง 4.9Kหลายเดือนก่อน
In this video I talk about my experience owning the 2023 Ford F350 with the high output powerstroke diesel and the 10 speed automatic transmission. Overall the truck has been pretty good but it had a new rear main seal put in at 22k miles after developing a small leak. The buggiest problem is the Apple CarPlay that constantly becomes disconnected. Nothing I do seems to fix the issue, not a new ...
Actual MPG - Unloaded Hi-Output 6.7 diesel (23k miles owner experience)
มุมมอง 3.2K3 หลายเดือนก่อน
In this video I do a controlled, hand calculated 87 mile round trip journey and determine what kind of MPG I am getting with my 2023 F350 Superduty with the 6.7 hi output turbo diesel and the 10 speed automatic. I go over my actual City, Highway, and Mixed Driving MPG as well as my experience commuting to work each day in this truck. I am an actual owner and these are my real numbers. This truc...
2024 GMC Sierra Denali EV First Impressions (2k miles)
มุมมอง 5K3 หลายเดือนก่อน
In this video I drive my buddy Jason's GMC Denali EV and was impressed with the initial quality, driving experience, and rear steering. Though I don't see myself buying an EV anytime in the future, it was fun to drive and learn a bit more about these trucks. Jason has owned a Rivian R1T and traded that truck in (actually via Lemon Law) to get this truck since the Rivian had some frame cracks an...

Leaking oil - issues with Ford Service
มุมมอง 3943 หลายเดือนก่อน
In this video I took my truck to my trusted mechanic for a simple oil change, however, they noticed the truck had been leaking for some time from the motor above the oil pan. I subsequently took the truck to Ford to have them repair it under warranty as I only have 22k miles on this Superduty. My mechanic John told me how dealers pay their mechanics and try to cut costs on warranty work which s...
6.7 High Output Review, Towing, MPG, DEF Consumption & Thoughts
มุมมอง 17K4 หลายเดือนก่อน
I have clocked over 20,000 miles on my 2023 F350 Superduty with the 6.7 liter high output diesel and so far things have been pretty good with this truck. I talk MPG, DEF consumption, and my overall thoughts about this truck and how I use it.

มุมมอง 2515 หลายเดือนก่อน
I have had a very mixed ownership experience with my 2023 Ford F350 Superduty. On the one hand, the truck is awesome - power is good, the cab is relatively well put together, and things mostly work the way they should. On the other hand - I hate the DEF, all of the electronics, the known fuel pump issues, and the electronics not working the way they should and randomly throwing errors on the da...

In this video I interview my friend about his ownership experience with the Rivian R1T electric truck. He shares his honest experience owning this truck for over two years with roughly 35k miles. Why I quit my side hustle (And don't regret doing it)
I went from 3 16yd dumps till 10 dumpster all rented every week ! It’s all about advertising get up and get out there
Way to go, that’s so good to hear!
Your side view mirrors must not work. It also seems that you didn't need this thing as you run it in safari mode...all the time
You're right, it seems like I got caught up in the hype and should have planned a bit better. My mirrors were eBay tow mirrors which are probably the main issue, not the softopper.
Great info. I’d love to do this if I were your age. If I could only do it all over again.
Thanks! It's been a fun journey, but it’s not for everyone.
I must not be understanding your numbers correctly. You said your revenue was around 12k for the year with around 50% overhead not including the truck and trailer payments. Is that correct? If so, then you're loosing money when including the truck and trailer payments. Is that correct?
Correct, I make 95 percent of my income from my day job and this was just a side hustle tax writeoff hobby for me.
@ that makes sense. Thanks
👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks!
No disrespect , but it’s called safari mode, which to me at least translates to slow speeds through the woods camping etc .. too much air gets caught underneath the canopy and that’s what’s causing all of your issues . From experience of driving like that a few times ..
That’s totally fair. I wasn’t using it the right way and that is my fault - I should have been more fair looking back lol
Love these trucks. I have a 2024 F350 SRW 6.7 HO Platnium Tremor that we tow a Brinkley Z3610 42’ long and 18k pounds loaded up. I am maxing out the GAWR and Payload. I added air bags that gave the truck a lot more stability. It did make the ride a bit rougher when not towing. I went with the Air Lift LoadLifter 7500XL Air Logic IQ system. I wanted to keep the overload leaf incase something happened to the air bags. In hindsight I would have gone with the ReadyAir system that does remove the overload leaf but is a far better ride when unloaded. At 70-73mph my MPG towing is 8.9 over the last 5,200miles. The Tremor has a 3.55 rear gear and empty I average 15-16. I use the Archoil with fill ups also. I love the turning radius of the F450 but no way I am going to hand wash this thing every few weeks. The single rear week will do just fine 😎. I noticed around 20k miles that the truck began to sound more like a diesel than it did in the previous 0-20k miles. It might have happened slowly, mine sounds the same as yours does. I was curious if you noticed the same thing with yours. I thought maybe it was all in my head or a break-in sound once everything kind of found its break in points. Just more of that clatter with a diesel. I also change the oil at 5k miles and use Schaeffers from all the oil testing I see out there it’s the best by a pretty good margin.
Use your mirrors to back up! I had a softopper on a Jeep Gladiator and loved it. Backed up my camper many times with no issues. I never rolled the sides up! -20 weather and never had issues with zippers!
Thanks for the feedback, I guess I'm just extra cautious! My aftermarket eBay mirrors kinda sucked, they were not the right angle of view so I guess that’s not fair to the Softopper. Glad you had a good experience with yours!
Just installed my Softopper 1 week before Christmas, then drove the 200 miles from the Bay Area (SF) to Lake Tahoe for our annual 2 to 3 week Christmas vacation. It performed extremely well, held up under snow and rain, no leaks at all. The main advantage I see with it is the removable versatility of it, when needing a open bed for transporting large items. Backing up visibility is a drawback but no more than any vehicle like a van or even some toppers without windows. Overall, its a keeper for me, minor issues like the plastic plug on the tailgate flap pole missing can be fixed easily. They sell push in plastic plugs at Lowe's or Home Depot, Ace Hardware for $1. I guess it is not suitable for everybody, but it works for me.
Yea it is a good topper for being so versatile. I guess I just had some minor issues but overall it wasn’t a bad unit. I’m glad you are enjoying yours so far! Happy trails!
That’s the truck trying to get those EGR temps up. You will know when it’s in regen. Smells like crap.
Good to know
Thanks for the summary
Thanks for the comment!
Someone sacrificed a Datsun pickup 😢
Yea hopefully the front end was totaled or something - they are classics!
I'm still holding on to a 1978 King Cab
I just pulled home one of these trailers from the junkyard I paid $120 for it. Its a 8ft bed from a 1973-1979 ford f250. I just replaced the rims and tires and I'll be swapping a less rusted bed into it soon. I'm in Iowa so its pretty rusted out as it is currently. I'm hoping to get at least 10 years out of it once I replace the bed and get it all done. In total as of now I've got $300 into it so that's not bad for a utility trailer.
That’s a great deal indeed! I love those old trucks and it sounds like a fairly solid rig (minus a little rust). I am just about $500 into mine and am happy with what I’be got into it.
@RollingWithRuss I'll be swapping the bed here soon and it will be alot more solid. I almost wish I found one as small as you've got. But I'm a Ford guy so this box kinda fits perfectly 😆
Dude your son has gotten so big since I started watching your first video of your wet grass debris job. Always enjoyed the Junk Removal content but stayed around because you’re a solid individual. God bless you and your family happy holidays
Hey thanks man, it’s crazy how fast the kids grow up! Happy holidays to you and yours as well!
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all of you!
Yah my 24 has the same issues with carplay and so does my moms bronco. the lastest update for the truck seems to have made it better but it will still cut out audio and sometimes just crash. the only other problems I have had is my instrument cluster has just shut it self off going down the road twice. Making me restart the truck to fix it. The other thing is when you put the truck in gear and on the little screen is shows the 1-10 for a couple seconds that got stuck on the screen and it always showed I was in 1rst. The rest of the screen worked but that was stuck on it and it wouldn't go away with a quick restart of the truck. It needed to sit for like 5 minutes after shutting it down and then restarting to get it to be fixed. And the other nit picking thing I have is with the auto climate control with the remote start. I have the supplemental cabin heater and if the windows are fogged up I can start up the truck, turn on the defrost and before I leave my neighborhood the windows will be defrosted. For some reason the auto climate control with remote start turns the fan on the lowest setting and I don't think it even turns on the supplemental heater because I can leave it running for 15 minutes and the fog on the windows will not even be touched.
Those are frustrating issues. My dash lights have cut out on me once while I was driving a trailer down a canyon and that was a little disarming for sure… as for the cabin heater, that’s just plain frustrating that it does not seem to work well.
@ well the heater works but for some reason it doesn’t seem to turn itself on when I use the remote start. And yesterday for some reason my radiator fan was on high for the whole ride home when it was 40 out and coolant temps were 130. Thing hasn’t even kicked on high before when I was towing in 100 degree heat. I will see if it continues. Seems to either be a bad fan clutch or a ac sensor can go out and make the computer think that the ac system is super hot making the fan run at full speed since the clutch is fully electronically controlled. And the sensor thing I remember at least the 23 model year people complaining their ac when out and it was a sensor fault. It will be covered under warranty but I don’t want to deal with the service department.
For sure man
Would you get 7 by 14 to pull with tundra ?
That would be totally fine
My 92 7.3 idi diesel factory non turbo 5spd swapped... i can do abt a 4 hr round trip on my front 20 gallon tank if i keep my spd with 4.10s stock size tires at 60, includin lil more than 2 hrs of drivin on my smaller 10-13 gallon rear tank & have both tanks not be even down to half after all that
Oh man that sounds like a sweet truck!
Tell them about the crack in decked
I plan on it and will let you know what they say.
try the Toyo open country III. I just replaced my Goodyears from the factory.
Cool, thank you. Did you stay stock size? I kinda wanna go bigger but nothing crazy
@RollingWithRuss Yes I used 285.75.18
Does the CP4 high pressure fuel pump failure potential concern you? If not please explain. Thank you.
It does but I will probably trade the truck for a gasser before the warranty is out.
I think the CP4 failures are actually not as common as the internet will make us believe. The diesel techs at my local dealerships don't see this come in very often. But when they fail, it's a major repair at a cost of ~$10-12K. The biggest contributors are fuel contamination, prolonged filter changes, and by allowing air to enter the CP4 by not completely purging air from the fuel system after filter changes or draining of the fuel-water separator. I refuel only at reputable diesel stations and use a diesel additive (HotShots EDT) at each fill-up, change fuel filters every 10K miles (every other oil change), and perform a minimum of 8-10 ignition key cycles anytime air has entered the fuel system.
@jimm2442 also look into getting S&S fuel disaster prevention kit . It adds a return filter in the system. So if the cp4 does goes it only takes out the pump.
How bout they make a truck with absolutely zero computer bs, then we would have no problems with that at all!!!
I would buy that truck!
Press and hold power on and next scan (song) for 10 seconds or until screen goes black to reset. Should work fine. Don’t have to pull over can do on the go. I hate it but after a reset it works for a while.
Thanks, I will try to remember that next time it happens!
Weatherguard makes the best toolboxes
Yea they make good ones from what I have seen. Probably should have gone that route.
I think the wireless apple carplay is an issue with the technology itself. Even my pioneer head unit with wireless CarPlay has issues with cutting out randomly.
It’s funny the more comments I get on this the more I realize it’s a technology issue widespread among manufacturers. Thanks for your comment!
Try Forscan to disable the door chime. Looking to get DWR version with 4: 10 gearing and 26k miles for 56k to replace my 19 Ranger. Bought 40 acres right outside of Winnemucca.
Sweet man, I think that would be a great truck. We go through Winnemucca quite often and really like it out there.
@ cheapest land I could find on the west coast.
Looking to buy this exact model except it has the cloth seats and dual rear wheels, wish they were vinyl it has 26k miles for $56k I don’t really use Bluetooth I just listen to the radio 99% of the time so I think I could live with that. No real issues with my 19 Ranger but it needs a full servicing. I think it has those switches I think I saw them during the test drive but it’s not in the pics or window sticker so I can’t be sure.Does come with 6 brand new Nitto A/T Terra Grapplers G2 big reason I’m trying to upgrade because my Ranger needs all 4 load range E tires because my road to my property eats stock tires for breakfast.
I think you will be very happy with that truck, sounds like a pretty good deal. Is your property really rocky, or what causes it to eat tires up?
@@RollingWithRuss yeah tons of sharp rocks like arrowheads.
The audio is the same for my 2024 f250 it cuts out
Seems like a pretty widespread issue
Awesome upgrade 👌
Thanks brotha!
Merry Christmas Russ! I feel so blessed to have fellow junk removal buddies that support each other. ❤🎄🎁 (and former junk removal 😂)
Has the same problem with CarPlay on my 24 f250 with only 6k miles
Yea that is really frustrating. It’s not like it’s really new technology at this point…
I think the car play is a problem with all the new cars. Even my wifes 2023 Volkswagen SEL R line loses sound for days sometimes. Its wack lol
That’s interesting to note, you’re probably right. Must just be too many systems trying to communicate and getting confused or something.
Thats better than my 22 Ram HO and 23 Duramax. Just pulled a 16k lb processor to texas. 5.5 mpg in the ram and empty 13.5.
Dang, that’s pretty rough. What speed to you usually tow? I know Texas can have some gnarly wind so perhaps that played a factor too…
Wisconsin to Texas at 68mph@@RollingWithRuss
Do you sell your Recyclable materials ?
Yes whenever I can I do.
Powered Hydraulic Jack about $1200. Still good investment. Time saver.
Good idea, thank you!
Nuts in your battery box. Removable “Blue” Loctite or Lock Nuts👍Either will do. Like the wood wall 👍
Thanks for the tips, Chris!
What kind of GPS tracker do you use on your dumpsters?
Just Google “GPS and Track”, that’s the company name. They are out of Arizona. Been very happy with them.
I’m 30 mins from you, good video. Great progress 😊
I appreciate that! It’s a fun business. Whereabouts are you out of?
@ EDH
Hi, I drive a Tacoma which is smaller than your Tundra....do you think my Tacoma could handle that trailer? Thanks,
I know it can. I have seen them hauling 8k pounds at the dump but it will be ear out faster than a bigger truck. It can definitely do it, maybe not legally though. Most of your loads won’t be heavy unless it’s dirt, household trash will be fine because furniture and junk isn’t that heavy in general. Hope it helps!
Ri-vian lol
Yea they ain’t doing that great…
Dot Rating.
Not needed for under 26k
Doesn't sound like a good deal
Yea I was too cheap
D rings. They make a recessed style.
Good to know for the next trailer!
And cardboard 📦
Yup!
I also have tundra and what size dump trailer would you buy for that truck if you were doing again ?
Probably a 7x14. My 6x12 is nice but a little extra space would be nice. Reason I bought my size was to park in my garage at night though.
do you have plans to quit the 9to5 and go full time?
Nope I don’t actually. I make way more in my day job than I could ever make doing junk removal unless I had 10+ employees and multiple trucks.
$1000 for soft topper, or $6,000 for hard top ? These are tampon complaints from this dude , ridiculous!
Who pays $6k for a hard topper? Mine was half that and they do two different things. The softopper is great for certain things and not others. To each their own.
