these boys were raised hard by the floyd... passed out with the controls set and circled the destination at least a few times or more... arrived alive tho
Christ almighty, Dan in the first song is a PERFECT example of its where you play that matters. Thats the most unexpected bass playing ive heard in a long time
Thank God for KEXP! One of the few independent Stations left that’s actually keeping new music alive. College Radio used to do this as well. I’m glad you are on TH-cam so I can see these bands., Thank you! 😊
Really digging this...realized my knee is bouncing and I'm grinning like the drummer through the whole set. It's contagious! Anybody else reminded of the great Steely Dan, without the vocals? But with musicianship like this, who needs vocals?
Caught these guys with Mikaela Davis in Denver a couple of years ago, amazing fuckin show. Hope to catch them again on this Circle if not the next one 😀
Ive gotten to see these guys in 2022 and 2023 and it was outrageously fun. They were formed to make music for the set breaks at the grateful dead fare thee well shows in 2015.
@@nedrobinson7490. Early 70’s Sunn 200s amp with 2 6550 power tubes only 60 watts.Matching cabs with 2 15” JBL’s each. This sounds awesome on my iPad Amazing! Had this amp in 1972.
These guys are amazing live! They had me n friends floating in space making circles around the sun for a couple hours! If anyone is new to them I highly recommend their Interludes for the Dead album with the original guitarist Neal Casal, beautiful work and homage to Grateful Dead! RIP Neal Casal
Ive been seeing CATS for a few years now. A personal must see for me anytime they come to town. Hopefully the road back to Seattle is a short one for them :) The sound of Adam's keys bring back the joys of going to Chris Robinson Brotherhood shows back in the day.
Like the 'element' John Lee Shannon has brought in the absence of Neal Casal. I'd imagine he'd approve ! Really want to catch these guys live (sadly no tour dates in the Denver area at the moment 😕). I'd imagine a lot of their target audience is here 😎. Best wishes to them!
@@MorningView4 Honestly hadn't looked until recently 😑. Bottom line my concert 'buds' live back in Philadelphia area. Not the same going to shows without them ..
So tasteful, I looked this project up after it caught my ear at the Fare Thee Well set break music. Discovered Neal Casal becoming a fan and was so sad to hear of his passing. You guys are sounding fan-fucking tactic. Many thanks
I keep coming back to this performance, it’s downright infectious. Thank you KEXP for imbuing these experiences with so much human intention and energy. It sets your example far above other channels, to say the least.
Very cool music. Thanks kexp for bringing us great music. I've discovered a lot of great music thanks to you guys. Keep bringing it. And CATS is just killing it. Yeah

Major wizard vibes. In the '70s, a key player like that would be wearing a cloak. Bring it back.
Oh, it’s coming. :-)
He was wearing a cloak when i saw them live
Yes! This comment!
@@eddiecrownshaw199 I think he’s earned the cloak; I think they all have.
Yup "Merlin" is killin' the game, But he'd be beyond with a cloak & or cape.
the happiest drummer i have ever seen.
That drummer appears to be having the best day of his life! Dope Band! Lemme Put this in my Khruangbin & Glass Beams playlist
hahah smilin' and groovin' !!
Drummer smile is contagious!
Very! He was smiling the entire show I saw them play in San Diego.
Christ almighty, Dan in the first song is a PERFECT example of its where you play that matters. Thats the most unexpected bass playing ive heard in a long time
Daaamn this band is playing good vibrations.
Psychedelic Space Disco!
Rest Easy Neal 😥 You are MISSED!
This MIX is fantastic... Someone knows their stuff! Great...
For real, the levels are perfect. That bass tone sounds amazing
@@sSmOkeBLuNtSs The sound engineer there is a genius, the mix sounds better than the album half the time. Bass is always amazing.
The most syrupy version of Outer Boroughs, that was an utter delight. They get better and better
Khruangbin could only dream.
😂
Alembic Bass FTW!!!! Love CATS!!! So glad they started the set with Away Team 🎉❤
Thank God for KEXP! One of the few independent Stations left that’s actually keeping new music alive.
College Radio used to do this as well. I’m glad you are on TH-cam so I can see these bands.,
Thank you! 😊
WERS Emerson college radio in Boston is the balls. 88.9. So much good stuff.

Best feeling in the world
Same. Caught them live last NYE
Definitely is the true spirit… sharing is caring .. love these guys .. it’s like living on shakedown street non stop .. just gotta poke around ☝️
This is crazy. Them and Mildlife are filling up my cup for sure.
Saw these dudes twice on tour this spring/summer and was shocked at lack of audience! So much talent in the band!
That keyboard player has quite the battle station going on!! Very nice!
830 am in Australia and the glitter ball is on
Never too early for such beautiful sounds to be pumping across the universe 🤙🏻🤙🏻
Never heard them but I'm glad i clicked on this video. Jammy trippy tunes.
You should check some of their shows -2019 to understand their history. Lost Neal to suicide in 19 but these dudes seem to be keeping his spirit alive
Sounds like a collection of the very best late 70s jazz fusion
Neal has a huge smile on his face right now. Thanks again KEXP!!!
KEXP, always introducing me to great new bands. Thank you!
Feel like I just fell into a cloud full of melted chocolate. This is smooth af
So ridiculously crazy good.
Ty Ket & Nitrous & thanks C.A.T.S.
Can't wait to see this band next week!!! Where can I get a cool shirt with a cactus, strawberry, flowers and other fun stuff on it?!
Amazon?! They got everything and if they don't have it you probably don't need it.
Was not expecting the funky Hippy vibe. Not mad at all.
Love these guys. Very happy to see a bunch of newcomers in the comments enjoying their work. And I think Neal would be happy to see it, too.
Totally. First time I hear them!
So they are still a thing after Neal? TIL
I remember I was at the first "Fare Thee Well" show at Solider Field, and these guys did all the set break music. Everyone was grooving to it.
It's on Spotify and vinyl if you didn't already know. It's called Interludes for the Dead.
Just discovered them. Wow. This is going to be some great late night jams at Floyfest next week!
...and Dude on the keys is like a crazy mad wizard mixing up spells...Luv it!
Really digging this...realized my knee is bouncing and I'm grinning like the drummer through the whole set. It's contagious! Anybody else reminded of the great Steely Dan, without the vocals? But with musicianship like this, who needs vocals?
Yes indeed. Great band

Cauht CATS at Hoxeyville last year and they put on a great show! Would love to see them again this year!
As a fan from the start, this has to be one of the all-time KEXP performances. Legit.
Totally happy drummer! :)

Mans on keys is a scientist 🤯
I wouldn't be surprised to learn he has a PhD. In mycology. The real deal.

Wow, what an awesome sound !
Note to other bands: find a drummer that looks at you this way

Amazing musicians! This happens, when you love, what you do
Really good band!good musicians
I can't wait to see these guys in St. Paul again! If only the rest of Grateful Shred would grace Minnesota with their presence!
BING BONG 🪩🕺
I love this version of Away Team. A little groovier than the recording. So killer.
Hell yes. Digging these types of bands. Thanks KEXP!
I would attend the HELL out of a Circles around the Planetarium show
