  • The wait is over! The all-new Specialized Levo Gen 3 is here! EMBN's Steve Jones is here with a first look at the devil in the details which add up to make this bike a totally new platform.
    In association with Specialized.
A lot has changed since the last Turbo Levo! The new bike is designed around mixed wheel sizes, 29 front and 650b rear. It features more adjustable geometry than ever before to cater to your personal taste... if you want to run a slack head angle and high bb for where you ride...you can! Specialized has updated the motor, enabling Microtune and adding Mastermind to the bike, putting its brain on show. The new Levo also features the S sizing measurement, now familiar on most of Specialized's off-road range, allowing you to pick a size not just based on your height, but your riding style and how you want the bike to feel.

I've been involved with the world of bicycles for 40 years. I embraced the e bike completely and have been riding one since they launched the product. I encouraged the use of them. Convinced race organiser to run a class at their events, took verbal abuse from riders at venues and generated as much publicity as possible for the product.
I've recently started to question why I did this and actually regret pushing the use of e biked and now the itonic thing is the same people that verbally abused me are now buying them. The pricing structure on e bikes is now utterly staggering and has actually priced people like myself out of the sport.
True story. Interpret it any way you wish.

I have a 2019 Levo, and while I've never had any issues with water ingress at the charge point, the new double-door looks to be an improvement. I hope they've sorted the belt durability issues for good now. I had to have a new motor at 1000 miles (all off-road), but as it was replaced in an hour this would not stop me recommeding buying a Specialized, the service network (in the UK) is excellent. I love my Levo!

I'm loving my Turbo Levo 3rd gen, best bike I have ever had ! & I've had some beauties ( eg. Yeti's ) it's wonderful to ride & party in the back & super stable upfront it's poppy ! So much FUN !!!! It's so verscitile, going from 65.5 down to 63.0 H/A it will pretty take on anything with a beefy 38 upfront! & the mastermind always updating to make your experience even better ! & By holding the plus button down it will show in each mode that you do manually what percentage from 10% to 100% ! Eg. If your on say 100% in trail & you want less assistance you may want to take it down to say 50%, 60% or just to 70% in 10 % increments by pressing the +or - button it's that easy & responsive a joy that's just one of many examples! Best mtb purchase by a long way ! 👍👌🔥🔥

All the videos I've seen so far on the launching of these two new 2022 models are more o less the same and I can see and appreciate the improvements made to the Levo (Geometry, electronics etc). The only problem I see is that WHILE there is a long waiting list to buy a Levo at present here in UK and I think it's more or less the same everywhere, Specialized managed to introduce a new bike while kicking the people (like me) who are on the waiting list to get what is now, an old version (2021). This, is my opinion is a piss taking from Specialized towards buyers.

Just use Bel-Ray water proof grease. Nothing gets past that. I Honestly have never had one issue with water ingress on Gen 1 Levo and Gen 2 Kenevo.

Call me a cynic but can't help feeling Spesh are now digging deep to catch up on the damage caused by failures in the past. Are these incremental improvements worth the uplift in price and huge RRP's off set against other brands such as Lapierre, Focus, Canyon, Thok etc ?

I have got a 2018 Hiabike 11.00 Nduro, only mod I have done is a fox 38 up front with 29”. I have brought a 2nd motor as back up and I also have a 2nd 500w battery. Weight difference between mine and the Levo is under 3kg without carrying the spare battery. All this cost me €3k less than the Levo...buy cheaper and modify yourself!!

If only the reliability would reflect the price? With so many people complaining about reliability and the dearest price tag, why do they go hand in hand with this brand? I think they should extend the warranty period as a gesture of good faith and put this issue to rest IMO. Let's hope the new belt and waterproofness features deliver their promise? One of the best sealed bikes they've ever made is their claim? Does that mean it seals as well as a Bosche Gen 4?

Incredible bike. Ridden quite a few Levo’s but despite all that tech and geom advancement, they sadly didn’t decrease the motor size and for me the aesthetics of the bike are key and feel the Levo looks old already, due to that repeated huge bottom bracket vs the latest eMTB’s.

Some great updated, spoilt by the price and no aluminium comp version. Hopefully they are testing the water with the current price points to see if they need a competitively priced comp in the range, otherwise they will loose custom to many other brands, equally speced and 30% less. But you will still see plenty of grinning over 50's (I'm 58) taking delivery of their s works outside the LBS, paying through the nose to be unpaid "testers" of reliability. I'll give it to 2023 when the reliability is proven and a realistic price point is established.
A question to you Steve, would you buy an s-works with your own money and if so, what would your wife say?

Nice embark and range of sizes. But I would like the charging port to be near the front fork stem area way up there. As is my no name efatbike is. Bending over all the time.
Hmm. Plus to be honest. The styling needs to be better. But the quality is good. And more electric options. More options more buyers simple marketing.

But why? I’m getting a new Levo this week and I wanted a mullet setup to have a more maneuverable bike.
My daily at the moment is a Santa Cruz Tallboy CC.
A 29 Downcountry bike, which is sometimes a bit cumbersome in the back..

No new seals in the motor? Especially on the crankshaft. That is where most water ingress into the motor happens. New battery door and seal? Nice, but it doesn't tackle the elefant in the room.
