- The Current's Jill Riley checks in with Bernard Sumner at his home in England. Sumner, who is recovering from COVID-19, talks about New Order's new single, "Be A Rebel." He also reflects on New Order's origins in post-industrial Manchester, on his fondness for learning about new instruments, and on the merits of boredom.

I don't think they could care about industry accolades. They are the results of experiences and moments in time. I think what keeps them moving forward in all of this time is the audience that they have cultivated and nutured so well.

I love that Bernard took the bull by the horns and became a bedroom musician to record his most positive track.. My musical hero. A true genius and purist. Punk taught the masses 'a can do' attitude. Something Barney has alluded to many times. The rhythm guitar in the second verse is sublime and New Order have always done this so well.
Good to hear Bernard is ok and recovering from coronovirus.
Coming from Manchester New Order has always been in my life from day one.

I had the chance to see New Order when they toured with PIL and the Sugar Cubes. It was my favorite concert, and I'm old, I've seen a lot of them! I'm so glad he's still making new music.

Bernard Sumner is the epitome of style he's an icon whether he is wearing shorts, a t- shirt or a tie or a v-neck sweater and glasses. Everything he does is just cool. He just is so cool. ❤️

This is the way you conduct an interview. I love how she just listens. Take note Howard Stern, you might learn a few things, that is if you care to open your mind.
Diversity of approach is a good thing.
Love 'Be A Rebel'. Such a tune Can totally tell it was mostly Bernard. He's one of a kind. More please. Could listen to him sing all day long.

I'm in near constant rage over Trump's abject failure to control the corona virus here in the states, I'm enraged that a lifelong idol of mine has been hurt by it in his own country. Wish Bernard a full and speedy recovery !
It is like "Ne-rdr" with Peter Hook not beeing part of NO anymore. Please, BS, understand that he is part of the story.
they accept he's part of the story, thats why he was included on the transmission podcast. Hook dislikes NO, and NO dislikes Hook. Frankly, its better that theyre apart. NO can keep making good music without Hook fighting and holding them back, and Hook can keep touring Joy Division and keeping Ian's memory alive.

Listen, I saw them live this year. Saying the whole year is full of nothing for New Order fans is stupid. I saw them live, and there has been a monumental re-release with the Definitive edition of PCL. That release has songs fans haven't heard previously.

He says the tour is "postponed" so they can keep the money, because if he says "cancelled" they have to give it back. I am $700 in the toilet from Ticketmaster since I bought a bunch of tickets for me and my friends. What a mistake! A lifelong NO fan, I am pretty bitter. Just give the money back if you are not touring!
Via Ticketmaster I was contacted as a ticket holder & told that they will refund the ticket price, or Incan hang on to them, which I have done. Have you doublechecked? It still stands, in Canada.

@@martincooke3934 Hey man, I didn't mean to be harsh and I apologise - I think I just get a bit defensive with Bernard because unlike some other members of New Order, I think he's always presented himself as quite humble, self effacing and genuine and isn't prone to grandstanding and self-mythology. I agree it is sad to see our childhood heroes having grown old, bald, overweight or increasingly embarrassing when they open their mouths but that's the way of things for all those musicians that just will not - or most probably for a lot of them for financial reasons, cannot retire and fade from the public eye......I cringe when I hear a certain disgruntled ex-member speak and as for John Lydon.....I often wonder if there is a link between the Trump supporting contrarian and the iconic face of punk that was .....I imagine there may well be people in our lives who knew us at a certain point and then compare us to now and think 'what the fuck.....?!' Difference being we didn't grow up and old in public...well, I speak for myself anyway......peace and love!

I should be less dismissive in future. I saw joy division at Bradford St. George’s hall, supporting buzzcocks. Can’t remember the date.
This is Bernard’s infamous home studio. He shouldn’t have written songs here on his own, while eating chickin wings. Most of albums since Republic should have sounded miles better, if he kept writing with Hook and Stephen at recording studios.
