barney could tear you to pieces with his guitar while ian's plaintive wail and sublime lyrics could make your hair stand on end. the drummer was out of this world.
are you Barney? because how you mentioned Joy Division individual parts with mentioning Hook is frankly astounding. I hope in the three years since you made this comment, you have been imprisoned.
Every band goes through periodic changes ... Hooky leaving is the first major change in over 30 years. They are still New Order although no one will ever replace Hooky's stage presence and bass playing. NO ONE! Can't wait to see 'em in October in Toronto!
Simply love New Order ... so down to earth ..esp Stephen ... he`s brilliant .. and so funny .. i watched a documentary recently about how JD started and he was describing the landscape in 70`s Manchester .. "Manchester was like a warzone ..there was a foul smell in the air ... which at the time was true because the drains were up at the time" .. brilliant !! love their music ...
Same here. I've been a Joy Division fan since hearing Unknown Pleasures in 1980 at the age of 14, but until a few days ago I'd never even heard of Gillian Gilbert and I just assumed that Hooky was still with the band. I recently listened to Hooky's audiobook about Joy Division and have spent the last few days listening to Peter Hook and The Light's live releases of Joy Division material, and love it.
Strange that, anyone I know who liked Joy Division blended seamlessly into New Order fandom. Movement seemed like a natural musical progression from Closer, it was just missing Ians lyrical prowess.
Barnie looks pissed out of his brain onstage. Also that dodgy scream made me giggle. I was thinking about Spinal Tap when I saw him lumbering about shit-faced. Shame as I do love a good chunk of New Orders back catalogue.
Yeah, yeah. First, his name is Bernard, get it right. Blue Monday is the #1 selling song in history and has been viewed over 25,000,000 times on TH-cam
The fact that he can't properly sing live was what made them particular. However, he's still an archived musician. Used to really really really like New Order when I was a kid, and into young adulthood. Now I'm an old fart. Without a doubt, they shaped my musical taste. The first time I listened to Substance (as an entry door to their work), it transported me into another dimension. Back then internet was nonexistent, so it took me a while to find out they had been the darker JD prior to NO. So later I started to like some "goth" bands , thanks to them. Great times the 80s, everything you discovered back then was through radio, or because of your older sibling's good taste in music.
It’s a shame New Order lost everything. But, it’s nice to see you seemingly still enjoying yourselves. Wouldn’t it be nice, though, to meet up with Peter from time to time just to hangout like the good old days. Pardon, I’m way behind the times. So, you’ve all have probably already done, so.
Between 10 and 11 minutes Stephen sums something up about music that's very significant and goes a long way to explaining why most bands go down hill as their careers progress.
Post Factory, New Order did lose their relevance and certainly turned into a rock and roll band (comparatively) once Gillian left. It became a bit of a boys club. Gillian coming back was a good move and I would rather have her in the band than Hook if I had to choose between the two. Whatever they do now, they still achieved more than 99% of bands since their inception as Joy Division.
Amen. He can express himself brilliantly on occasions - and yet other times he sounds like English is his fourth language, both in interviews and in his lyrics. Don't get me wrong - I think he's right up there in the pantheon and so are the band. Just - inconsistent.
when you know that even if you make a profit it will be drowned it the financial sinkhole called Hacienda it's easier to not give a damn about commercial success. Keep in mind that they have the best selling EP of all time and yet managed to lose 100 000 pounds in the process thanks to Tony Wilson's management abilities
They went to shit on Republic. What they were before that was amazing analog synths, a sense of humor, pop genius mixed with the absurd. No one can touch what they did in those early years before Republic.
Republic wasn't a bad record. I just don't think the music they were making at that time and since was right for that moment in the way it was received. Their niche wasn't as appealing as it was in their early years because of other music around at the time that for whatever reason people were more in to. To do with the dynamic of where popular music was at at the time.
Republic is tied with Waiting For The Sirens Call as the worst New Order record, tho i think both albums have their strengths. Its N.O. after all! "Regret" almost redeems the whole LP, and the title track off Sirens Call is just beautiful
I've met a lot of celebrities, and they've all been exactly they way I imagined they would be. Good and bad. It's the average people in the street I can't figure out...
Hookys bass playing was an integral pat of their sound, hey are now like a lemon merangue pie with artificial lemon, they don't sound like new order without Peter Hook...
yeah, the new single is really Electronic without Johnny Marr. Bernard even said in an interview he barely consulted the band, he just made it himself. Peter Hook added an edge to the music, and obviously his actual bass is an integral part of NO's sound.
Ya, none of them where trained musicians and just kept at it and writing song. Benard can't sing for SHIT to this day, and look how huge they got. Love New Order.
No Hooky , no party . BTW Staying together for the sake of the children is noble and ALWAYS preferable to single parent families. A myriad of statistics support this.
I'm with you tymanski, but I would go further and say they started dying after Low Life, after Technique has been a death march. Maybe a handful of good songs since then. Like so many 80's bands (Depeche Mode, The Cure, The B-52's, Morissey, etc.) they should have given it up ages ago and retired. I saw New Order at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago a few years back - musically they were fine, but Bernard was terrible, I actually felt bad for him.
The first 5 mins is the band basically trying to say ... " Look ... Hooky is gone, but we're still New Order without Hooky ... don't think the band isn't as good without that one member" ... without actually openly saying it. WRONG ... Hooky is NEW ORDER ... without all original members, it isn't New Order.
Hooky's bass was great in Joy Division and early New Order. But by 1986 it's if he started phoning it in so to speak. They didn't really need the bass after that especially on some of the Technique stuff. Plus his ego was big by that point anyhow. But admit he does have a unique bass sound.
Gillian has such a lovely voice....which she had said more in the video. And she still looks so good for her age. You rock Gillian.
barney could tear you to pieces with his guitar while ian's plaintive wail and sublime lyrics could make your hair stand on end. the drummer was out of this world.

How beautiful a legacy. One of my all-time favorite bands.
I am re reading both of Stephen’s books. Really well written. Recommend everyone check them

I have been following these guys for 35 years ❤
I love the whole band, but I still miss Hooky
who doesnt. the only bass player to leave a mark with his unique style, or does anyone know another basser that is recognised right away?
@@MrSchmolko Lemmy, Steve Harris, Chris Squire, Geezer Butler...

Love Stephen Morris great guy to listen to
Steve Morris hardly changed throughout the years....the man is in his mid 50's!
LEgendaries!
Love their music. Great band.

new order is fabulous and any new songs from them will likely be fabulous. thanks for all the songs, new order
So pleased new order were the main soundtrack of my youth! They made the eighties cool as.. 🙌
I LIKE THEM SO MUCH !!! MY BEST BAND EVER !!! NEW ORDER

This is wonderful, one of the BEST of the BEST band's of all time.
New Order and Joy Division had two different audiences, I think. I can't recall many who love both equally. I prefer Joy Division every time.
Amen, brother...
agreed
Paul Metzger Not me. I'm capable of loving both bands equally, hell, I even consider them the same band but with a different style.
Same here. Everything is OK Plastic face carnt smile (White Out).
Yeah, yeah. First, his name is Bernard, get it right. Blue Monday is the #1 selling song in history and has been viewed over 25,000,000 times on TH-cam
He's ok. Around the time Technique came out he had a few singing lessons.
Might be true that Bernard still can't sing, but no one can't sing the way Sumner does it.
The fact that he can't properly sing live was what made them particular. However, he's still an archived musician.

Odd seeing Bernard so pally with Gillian and Steve, it was never that way before Hooky threw his toys out the pram and sulked off.
It’s a shame New Order lost everything. But, it’s nice to see you seemingly still enjoying yourselves. Wouldn’t it be nice, though, to meet up with Peter from time to time just to hangout like the good old days.

Besides Peter Hook Bass Guitar sound, Stephen Morris drumming style also add to the band's music.
Stephen is quite the story teller 🖤😏🤣

I still fancy Gillian! Glad she is back in the band!
Incredible Band! Greetings from Brasil.

my favourite band ever.
Oh, go and make it up with Hookey for christs sake!
Still fucking inspiring bands and artists to this very day.
most of those sounds so bloody generic though.

So glad to know they've professionally recorded a performance from this year's world tour.
No Hooky, no New Order. I agreed.
That's silly because he did not want to be part of New Order.
He quit because he's difficult to be around
Absolute legends
I Love Gillian!!!!!!
ellos me hicieron amar a la musica en los 80...
Les battersby on the couch tonight
I can’t listen to New Order without Hookey 😭
Love you all but without Peter Hook the Band Lost something Very important to me.
At the beginning it sounds like they're dancing around the Peter Hook situation a bit.
It like Echo & The Bunnymen went through times of separation.
They were performing has eletracfixion & 1 studio album.
Try telling that to Mark E Smith of the Fall whether or not his band sounds like the Fall any more after 40 odd members later.
you can if you want
Death toured for 1 year without any original members in 89/90.
Great great band! 😎💪
I miss Hooky.
He misses your money.
They are everything and beautiful.

Barnet’s ego is out of control. 😳😂🍺
major egotistical
nar·cis·sist
Yup. They ain't the band they were without Peter hook. He's really down to earth and deserves more respect from the other members,of new order
I don't know about that scream at the end by Sumner.
I wish they would play Dublin on their own no festivals all the best
Why hasnt Stephen aged a day since 1980?
The speed that he drummed took him back in time
Without Peter Hooks' bass it's not really New Oder imo.
yeah, the new single is really Electronic without Johnny Marr. Bernard even said in an interview he barely consulted the band, he just made it himself. Peter Hook added an edge to the music, and obviously his actual bass is an integral part of NO's sound.
love Love LOVE New Order. Thanks for this vid
In love New order
yes! some years ago maybe they wasn't new order cos Gilliam wasn't there too...(?)
it looks like time was friendly with steve. on the other hand bernard and gillian have aged pretty much since the 80s.
Youth was never meant to last forever. Age will come for you as well…
Hooky calls them a New Order tribute band.
The Light are a Monaco tribute band.
Which is somewhat ironic...
Yeah, they truly .... "roll with the paunchs". New Order - Peter Hook = No Order.
the new arrangement which you can find on the live at troxy and bestival gigs
No Hooky, no New Order. 10000% agreed.
No hooky no new order...no bernard no new order.
ironically hooky let barney sing ,,,,they could have got a newguy
the new live rendition, you can hear it on here if you look enough
Their 2010 version of 586 is cool. Very kraftwerk like at the beginning 5.8.66666
Ya, none of them where trained musicians and just kept at it and writing song. Benard can't sing for SHIT to this day, and look how huge they got. Love New Order.
If Hooky came back I would go and see them and buy their music again but not as is, it is NOT New Order!
They were great in the 80's and up to Repbublic . Not really they same without Hook.

Haven't made a great record since Technique. "It doesn't take a genius....."
Jeff Svirtunas Agreed. Technique was genius their sound and stage presence was brilliant at the time now they sound like a poor tribute act.
It´s the last album by them I loved, there are odd songs good later, but not albums.
Republic was really underrated.
Haha 5:58 Looks like Bernard tripped over one of the wedges 😆
Best band ever
Where's Pete?
Keith Richards said Jimmy Page was LZ. I believe Hooky was NO.
They only let Gillian hold the mic, but not speak. That looked weird.
she never says anything anyway....
That’s her job 😆☺️

i love em,but your right, just not a full unit, especialy with hookys massive presense missing. still go watch em though.
Who are they then with 3 of 4 original members?
What is the record Stephen Morris is talking about?
do you think so,i think thats a bit strong. theres some brilliant stuff in that timeframe.
Whats that version of 586?!
Idk if you saw my other comment but its a live version that you can find on the Live at Bestival 2012 and NOMC15 albums
Shite without Hooky
True, saw him in Camden the other night, he cares more about New Order's material than they do. Bernard is just phoning it in nowadays.
Why is it Gillan reminds me of Cosey Fanni Tutti ? Perhaps I should lay of the gear and amplified self suggestion ...
if u panned new order on here, 1 your not a true fan and 2 bet u still buy new album
Well said, totally true.
they were New Order without Gillian so what is the difference

I guess it's good that they were trying to still play but to rehash their old songs? I dunno.
