Thank you for doing this, I really appreciate it. I studied this video and practiced the track for a couple of hours. Then I qualified 2nd and also finished 2nd in my first ever iRace with zero incidents.
Man, your channel has come a long way since this video was made. I just started following the iRacing craze and it's a blast watching your videos. The production values have increased, the gear in which you use, and just overall the content is fantastic! Thanks for making these beginner guides for people who are starting off!
I have been such a fun of all racing since I was a child. I am now on my 30’s and still going strong. I have always been so amazed with the sim racing world . I have researched and seen these wheels and have been wanting one so bad and to get started in sim racing. I am currently following your channel and finding your video very helpful . Thank you and keep up the great work
I'll be checking out this series of videos in multiple sessions. I had the misfortune of finding Jimmy Broadbent entertaining while I was drunk and now I've gone and bought a wheel and stand and looking at 60min long tutorial videos for Iracing lol. I saw the battle you guys had in the gt3 cup car so came over here to see a pro driver rather than a pro shed dweller ;-)
Excellent video Dan. I was looking for a video like this one when I started iRacing ~3 months ago. I learned a few things I didn't know from this one even though it's aimed at first timers. I'm excited for the next episode! Seriously, no one else shows this stuff. From signing up all the way to the first race and you make it look so effortless. This will help many new folks. Starting the races (my first track was Laguna Seca) was the hardest part for me, as no matter how careful I was, turn 1 was always mayhem. If only I had known I could just start from pit lane, I'd have done that.
Very good tutorial! I finally made the plunge into iRacing after a few months in honing my skill in Assetto Corsa. It’s still intimidating, but this guide really explained what I need to be focusing on. I’d love to enter the for the race to win the G29. My wife and I take turns right now, competing for lap times. I recently bought a sim chassis for myself, but I already have the holes drilled in my desk for a G29 for her to set it up and race beside me!
I really liked the focus on FOV. I've gotten so used to the behind car views playing some games and started getting into drifting. Was struggling with the wheel until I went to a hood view, and now my eyes can catch the car sliding and correct much sooner. Thumbs up!
Can confirm, I started with a G27 and they are a really good starter! Biggest word of advice is don't rush - Practice alot! don't overdrive stay clean and have fun!
Thanks for giving us all an opportunity to win this wheel. If I were to win, this G29 would be a perfect representation of how you spin me right 'round, baby right 'round like a record, baby right 'round, 'round, 'round.
I pretty much followed this guide to finally do my Mazda Rookie race in Season 4. For the last 2 months I've just been mostly hooning around doing hotlaps, unranked/community races and AI races. So I have driven in iRacing quite a bit up to now. I'm not exactly an absolute beginner. I've also played quite a bit of games like Gran Tursimo and Forza. My first races was week 1 at Tsukuba. I know the track pretty well from games like GT Sport. I practiced for about 20m in a test drive, another 20m in an official practice session and then registered for a race. The race was mostly Rookie drivers but there were 4 D drivers and a B driver. I qualified P2 but started from the grid. I probably could have won the race because there was a lot of jockeying for position behind and even a spin. But I also could have gotten taken out. So I started from the pits. Definitely remember you can grid and then return to the pit to speed things up. I picked up 2-3 positions in the first 2 laps from ppl spinning or crashing into each other. I also picked up a few more places by passing. Oddly enough in the last turn. I noticed some drivers take a really wide line and comeback to the apex later. I felt comfortable taking a tight line while maintaining speed and defended into T1. I ended up finishing P6 with the fastest lap and fastest average lap time. I gained .29 SR so I'm at 2.79. According to the MPR I'm 1 race and .21 SR away from a D license. That's pretty encouraging. Cheers Dan!
I like the part where you are describing what you are watching ahead of you "Those guys are battling" and seeing how you react to what you see is great tips for everyone, not just beginners.
Great intro video to iRacing. The most difficult thing I've found is navigating the iRacing website in my first month of using the service. I've watched your stream as well as others and learned quite a bit. Oddly enough, I'm still using a Logitech Driving Force Pro that I bought 15yrs ago to play Nascar Racing 2003 and GTR. The amazing thing is that it still works well enough to put in competitive laps as a Rookie,D, and C license driver. I hope that you continue this series as I have always learned something each time I watch your stream on Twitch. Well done, and thank you.
Thank you for this. It takes a lot of the mystery out of getting started with iRacing! Things I'd be interested in seeing are: -Other controls worth putting on the steering wheel -How to learn a new track (find braking points and not over braking, finding the right gear for corners, general racing line tips, corner prioritization) -More on downshifting in the MX-5. Ideally I'd like to use an H-pattern for cars that have one but I think I'll start with paddles -Vehicle dynamics in iRacing, how to keep the car stable -Common mistakes I already own a G29 so feel free to exclude me from the giveaway.
First of all thanks for giving everyone a oportunity to win a free steering wheel which is something that not much people can buy it which is my case. I watch people's racing in iRacing for almost 2 years now, always wanted to buy a wheel but since Im a student its hard to get the money to do it. I want the G29 since I dont have anyway to start SimRacing without it! Once again Dan! Thanks for this oportunity to everyone!
Just finished my first race thanks to you!! I was taking it slow and easy. Started ninth finished seventh without trying! Almost made it straight through clean till a dummy cam flying and rammed into me on a time corner and blamed me . Still got some SA. Really appreciate it! I keep rewatching your vids for pointers
Just got IRacing and have been borrowing my roommate sim setup till I'm able to get my own. So my roommate is my IRacing Sponsor for now lol. Its such a blast for anyone hesitant to try it
Thx for the series’s I just signed up for iRacing during Black Friday so I got it for 2 yrs. Been playing ACC and having some fun and learning but really want to start my iRacing!!
Started to play GTS last year using controller, and I've discovered your channel when you start making video on this game. I really enjoy racing game and really want to switch/learn to play the game using a wheel for improving my gaming experience and skills. Despite being only PS4 owner, I like to watch your iRacing videos (and of course GTS). This game looks absolutely amazing. Maybe, it could be a future next step for me in terms of eRacing experience.
It's a good starting tutorial... I liked the way you said to gain safety rating you should stay at the back by 10 seconds and hotlap and then proceeded to charge through the Field ( in a safe manner of course ) Since you are making this into a series I thought I could suggest a few topics to discuss: car control, how to practice effectively ( not just logging laps), good racecraft, and lastly how to play iracing without making your wallet cry.😀 Btw I already own the glorious G29 so I don't need one unless having 2 makes you faster
Hi Dan, not here for the wheel but I'd like to add 2 things: 1) After setting the correct FOV you might also want to set the virtual mirror FOV to the same value. To me the default made the cars behind look too far away to make a move and then they always surprised me when they did. I got much more confident after lowering the mirror FOV. 2) For immediate promotion to D class I think you need a SR of 4.0 instead of 3.0. With 3.0 you'd only be promoted at the end of the season. Other than that: great channel, keep it up! Cheers!
@@DanSuzuki Oh yes, you are totally right about the Rookie class being an exception to the Fast Track Promotion rule so 3.0 is enough for immediate promotion to D.
Great video (and series), advice and driving. Wish I had found you before I spent allot of time today trying to work through iRacing setup and how to get on track., Again thank you.
I was trying to figure out how to start Iracing with an old xbox360 wheel. Winning would take a lot of hassle out of that, and probably give me a better experience. Looking forward to watching the whole series.
Very good! Need to show this to my uncle. He's on the fence on if he wants to do it or not. And winning this wheel to give to him might push him over the edge.
I could sure use a wheel to get started. 25 years of the real deal, raising a young family means no more cars. This is the only way I'll ever get to race a Sprint Car, and I can't wait!
My family and I would be ever so grateful to receive this wheelI have been a lifelong lover of racing and have been wanting to get into iRacing asreal racing is out of my budget. More importantly, I want to give my boys the opportunity that I never had in my youth and get them started in racing at an early age. What better way than iRacing
Suggestion: chunk things up, to have clearer / shorter videos. Truly, *_"Get Out of Rookies Fast"_* is quite separate from "Subscribe for 3 months" and "Don't use combined pedals"/ 15:45 your into very first practice session.
Subbed and all that. Don’t want wheel though. Checking this out because I just got a G 29 and want recommendations for driving Sims. Someone recommended your channel. Thanks for the content! Good luck everyone else!
Great video Dan. Thanks for taking the time to make and share it. G29 would be great, could pass my old wheel on to a friend to get him started in iRacing!
Perfect series for us noobs! I’d love the wheel it would be great to start a new side of gaming I’ve never experienced before! I started watching you and fell in love with racing. Cheers Dan great video buddy!
Nice vid and channel. Glad your taking the time to try and help. Sadly I am finding that I quickly seem to hit my potential at any give track and no matter what I do am unable to shave any more time off the laps and those laps are average at best. Lets face it; Iracing is expensive. I don't mind spending the money but I hate to keep dumping in money only to find my talent level prevents any real progress for me.
You have a nice tone and style in this video. Calm and very constructive tips. I would love that steering wheel because I think it would be crucial to replace my ps4 controller with that £5 plastic mini steering wheel thingy!
Thanks Dan. I’m waiting on getting a D29 from a mate of mine. Can’t wait to start in iRacing. I’m so tempted to try controller but want to wait for the wheel. This was a great tutorial, thanks.
Wow! I just got a G29 and started on iRacing two months ago, but in the first few minutes of the video already heard some tips I hadn't heard before. Thank you for this series Dan. Just subbed to your twitch a couple days ago. Now subbed to your TH-cam 😁 Even though I just bought a G29, I'd love to win the G29 to give to a friend so that they could race with me. Right now none of my real life friends do sim racing because of the costs involved. If I could gift them the wheel I'm sure a couple friends would be excited to join me 😊
Just want to say that this series can be interesting. I'm not looking for the G29 for myself, but I hope whoever it goes to has some fun with iRacing. This will be useful (both the video and the wheel).
Thanks for taking the time to do this vid...I loved the nascar PC racing years ago and was thinking of having my son do a new tower for me to try this out.
my man ! i heard your name from boosted media .. said " dan is much faster then me " thats when i said , i have to find this channel ! just did on accident lol lets goo!!
Bloody awesome video mate. Looking at joining around Black Friday when it’s cheaper. I really hope u do a video on how to do iracing on a budget. As it can get expensive. Thanks again
thanks for explaining some things about the interface! very good tutorial, better than any I've seen yet. Like some, I'm confused about assigning buttons on the wheel. Looking forward to more of your vids! I don't need a G29 because I just bought one :-)
Gr8 starting guide wish I'd known this stuff back in the day :) I would love the wheel as sadly had to give up my second hand G27 2 yrs ago because of moving to another country and can now only get my fix from watching races on youtube :) Glad I found your channel and pls keep the series going up to the A licence, and race safe :)
Thank you Dan! Great Video. One thing dough you should never change de FOV that Iracing calculates, you can change the POV, you do that exiting the track a with ctrl F12 you change your siting positions up, down, closer, etc.
Very nice video. My 10yo son wants to start racing Sim, so the videos from Dave, and your beginners guide will make med chose this game, and actually the g29 racing wheel and pedals for him 👍🤗
Hi Dan, you got a new sub here. I have been wanting to give sim racing a go for a while and have been playing other games (forza h4 and f1 2019) with a gamepad on the PC. I figured it was time to give iRacing a try with a wheel but I don't have one yet. I would love the G29!
Hi Dan, i am in iracing since 3 days and your beginner guides helped me a lot. Did 2 races yesterday and sadly got some car contacts at the track but still increased my safety ratings. Today i will take your advise and start from the pitlane...couldn't recognize yesterday how it works and started from P1 and P4...i didn't want to, so therefore i was in trouble and of course did the beginner mistake of braking to late when i was behind. I ve got some problems that i could not see the replay after the race, there is a lot to learn for me, Thanks and best regards from Germany Andi
New sub here ,I've had my first rig for a week [T-GTII base with a couple of rims T-LCM pedals in a NLR F GT cockpit ]and after a week of GT7 I've taken the plunge ,bought a gaming pc witha gtx 3060 ti and i racing .Can't wait for it to download ,the p.o.v .looks tough but sounds like it's the way tp go cheers
I've been struggling many years to grab a crash for the wheel. Any wheel literally. Been driving in driving simulators just by my mouse. Started gettin better at it, but I've reached my limit. Can't go faster on mouse + keyboard setup because of no throttle/brake progression - everyone who tried to do this and make decent times knows something about it. I've spent many hours watching how good simracers drive (mainly) in iRacing, after that I've learned many little details about racing. So basically owning a G29 would fulfill my dream from childhood about owning one.
Incredibly helpful video series Dan. I’ve just signed up to iRacing and will be using your pointers for sure. Took advantage of their $55 annual new member pricing. Just using my Logitech 920 wheel, pedals, and shifter I’ve been using in Assetto Corsa. I’m comfortable with it and it’s quality enough for me at this point. Anyway...great videos! Thanks for posting! 👍
I've been wanting to get into sim racing for a few years but never got to do it, main reason being not having a wheel. The closest I got to playing a proper racing sim was me playing with mouse steering, so this would be a huge upgrade :D
Good content man. I've really wanted to get into iRacing for the longest time, but i've never had the chance to do it. Now that I have a decent computer I really want to give it a go but I don't have a wheel to do so :(. Either way good to see some well put together guides for iRacing. Cheers bossman :D
Just got iRacing yesterday, this is a very helpful guide! Also liked watching your braking and throttle inputs as you go around the track, very instructive for me. I would love to win the g29, even though I have a g920, because I'd like to give it to my friend who is into racing but just playing on a game controller and can't afford a g29/g920, but he loves racing and I'd love to do sessions with him on a wheel. Thanks!
I just starting playing Iracing with a borrowed g29 that my friend lent me. Im pretty broke and have some mental health issues that keep me from working atm. I don't make enough money to buy my own wheel or have many hobbys so I have to choose it carefully and I love cars. If I got my own wheel I could sim race every night to unwind. driving is the only thing that helps stop panic attacks dead in their tracks because I focus on the car and track instead of the racing thoughts of impending doom in my head. Right now when I have a panic attack I close my eyes and visualize driving silver stone if I had my own wheel It would be improve many aspects of my life.
Great series idea Dan! My Logitech Driving Force GT wheel is getting pretty old and clunky now so the G29 would be a great next step to continue my iRacing journey should I be lucky enough to win!
Hi Dan I just watched your video very helpful, I just looking in to getting iracing as been recommended for good racing. From what I seen on your video it looks good thanks for shearing
Thank you for doing this, I really appreciate it. I studied this video and practiced the track for a couple of hours. Then I qualified 2nd and also finished 2nd in my first ever iRace with zero incidents.
Awesome, congrats on this :)
Yeah helps to learn tracks in practice firs. I like practice because you can reset the car and push your limits
Every time when you bang on the rev limiter on upshifts, kitten dies. Great informative video BTW. Thanks

Bloody awesome video mate. Looking at joining around Black Friday when it’s cheaper. I really hope u do a video on how to do iracing on a budget. As it can get expensive. Thanks again
Excellent video Dan! Thanks for getting me started!!
thanks for explaining some things about the interface! very good tutorial, better than any I've seen yet. Like some, I'm confused about assigning buttons on the wheel. Looking forward to more of your vids!
I don't need a G29 because I just bought one :-)
Dan Thank You, Great informative video. It answered some very basic questions.
Thanks for the video, very helpful. Amazing that 13,500 viewed it but only a few hundred could muster the strength to click like.
Thanks for the video series Dan! Just getting back into Sim Racing and was looking for exactly this type of content. Keep up the great work!
Dan i just started iRacing, this is really helpful. Currently racing on a T-150
Great video. Was very helpfull and educational as i have planned to start iRacing/simracing this year. As soon as my new PC is ready :-)
This was great, I learned so much about setting up and getting into the first race. Thank you.
Pro Tip: dont hit and scratch monitor with Zollstock when calculating FOV. Never done that Kappa
:D
lmao. u didnt...dont tell me u did XD
Dan, thanks for starting to do this series. Please keep it going! I’ve raced every other game except iracing because it looked a little intimidating.
I’m just starting my iracing career more seriously so this is good timing.
Great idea for those who are looking to get into iRacing but want to know more before taking the awesome plunge. Good stuff Dan :D
That mx5 is pretty fun tbh! Nice series!
That FOV though :) Brilliant video - really useful thx
Hi Dan, i am in iracing since 3 days and your beginner guides helped me a lot. Did 2 races yesterday and sadly got some car contacts at the track but still increased my safety ratings.
Today i will take your advise and start from the pitlane...couldn't recognize yesterday how it works and started from P1 and P4...i didn't want to, so therefore i was in trouble and of course
did the beginner mistake of braking to late when i was behind.
I ve got some problems that i could not see the replay after the race, there is a lot to learn for me,
Thanks and best regards from Germany
Andi
Great video! can't wait to see the next one. really hoping to get into iRacing this year.
I've been racing my whole life! And because of a nasty crash in motocross I am unable to race anymore, so I wanna get into iracing!
Better have a lot of money
I don't need the wheel but I do post a comment to support your channel.
Good job, Dan.
Haha, thank you Charles :D
Great video! please continue with the series!
Very good tips for the rookies.
brilliant video explained it well will defo look at your others thanks.
Great tips on setting up the FOV and G29
Super helpful series. Thank you.
I've been wanting to get into sim racing for a few years but never got to do it, main reason being not having a wheel. The closest I got to playing a proper racing sim was me playing with mouse steering, so this would be a huge upgrade :D
I'd like the wheel because it will give me a starting point for my first iracing setup. Thanks
I dont have a rig so I'm playing vicariously through you, thanks for the uploads!
Good content man. I've really wanted to get into iRacing for the longest time, but i've never had the chance to do it. Now that I have a decent computer I really want to give it a go but I don't have a wheel to do so :(. Either way good to see some well put together guides for iRacing. Cheers bossman :D
I need a G29 because i love simulation games but no money for wheel now hahaha, this will be a good serie to watch!
Unwind from what
Hey rewatching the videos. Yeah!! i went and did it signed up for a year. right now it is 66.00 for one year and 119.00 for two.
Great series idea Dan! My Logitech Driving Force GT wheel is getting pretty old and clunky now so the G29 would be a great next step to continue my iRacing journey should I be lucky enough to win!
perfect timing i just started friday ! using a Xbox 360 wheel and pedals ! they work but no feedback
Hi Dan I just watched your video very helpful, I just looking in to getting iracing as been recommended for good racing.
From what I seen on your video it looks good thanks for shearing
That G29 is a great wheel. Been using the G920 which is pretty much the same thing.
A few mods to the wheel and pedals and it's great
Some good info here for a rookie like me, subbed and following, keep it up!
