The claw 8 is improved from the original claw but the price is a huge NO plus for everyone here wanting to know the price its $900 plus almost all of these Ai marketings you see in companies never get used aside from chatGPT so whats the point of having Ai in a handheld that can play games just like every other handheld device
These companies are so stupid. At this point, having “AI” slapped onto a product name is going to, if anything, discourage me from purchasing it. I suppose tone deaf companies are kinda par for the course at this point.
None of the AI advertisements are in any way targeted at the consumer. They're targeted at the investor. If you don't have AI, your stock price doesn't go up and if your stock doesn't go up, then you get fired.
There's a reason why valve have announced that they'll wait a little while to make an upgraded version, there still hasn't been a significant upgrade in processing power, and until other handhelds stop using windows, they'll never beat a software stack built from the ground up
Would have liked a comparison with Radeon 780M & 890M devices. Because at the end of the day, these Handheld devices are meant for gaming, and which ever provides the best performance is the better one (not considering the price as that is a separate factor).
It's not really fair comparing it to 780m as that's a 2 year old product, which this is obviously better, but the new AMD APU's will release in the next few months, at which point then the comparisons should start. And i believe they'll beat this fairly easily, just like the ROG Ally beat the first claw, the ROG Ally 2 will beat the Claw 8 AI
in france, it's priced at 1000€. For instance, here the rog ally Z1 extreme was 700€ when it got out, it's now at 500€. BUT the ally X is at 900€ (which imo is so overpriced, nearly x2 over the standard ally). So as long as everyone is doing ridiculous price, the msi claw 8 is not that expensive compared to an ally X. I will wait for a bit more info about z2 extreme and legion go 2. I have a rog ally Z1 extreme and the 7" screen is too small for me, and I like the idea to transform it into a tablet, but it will depend if it's any good, wait and see

True But we can see MSI Claw 8 is able to outperform Rog Ally even though its a new chipset and would eventually be better as time goes on with the updates in the new intel chipset
I feel like launch price doesn't matter in 6 months you'll be able to pick this up for $500 to $600. In a year $400 or less for a open box version. The value of these devices tanks aggressively with patience.
Yes, but not everyone likes open box versions for such still pricy devices and when that time has pasted like a year, you most likely can get some new device from another manufacturer which has more performance. I prefer the yolo route because beeing neary 30yo means soon i might have no time/money left for such spendings.
As a consumer sure, but for a company does this work? Releasing a device only a handful are willing to spend the launch price for and then waiting a year or two hoping no other device match your performance so people start buying it at heavy discounts?
I really hope this form factor not only survives but grows in the future. I can happily use this as a primary device w/ a dock & monitor at home once my laptop becomes obsolete or dies in 3-4 yrs.
This video has the same energy as the old infomercials you'd see on TV at 3am in the 90s. Serious though, considering what the original Claw was, I suppose there's reason to be excited. Just not at that price.
I thought, by now, most sensible people knew to wait 3 or 4 months after anything new is released. There are bound to be problems with software or hardware or both.
$900 is a lot but I understand why it’s that high. Pulling double duty as a small laptop could make it a great option for that. Hard to justify for just a gaming device.
Look, Electroboom and Linus tried killing a computer with Direct shocks from a shock generator and nothing happened. Nothings going to happen from him touching it.
2:07 Love it when chargers list the wattage right on the side. Especially these days with otherwise identical looking USB-C chargers having a range from like 5w to 200w
I can't believe I'm gonna say this but... I actually expected it to be far more expensive. This feels in line with laptop pricing for the same specs and just two years ago we had a lot of ayaneo's in this price range with half of the capability.
Except you also get more with a laptop - more keyboard, more screen, more speaker, etc. A handheld should be cheaper, because it uses far less material and compromises on things.
@@TheUltimateBlooperit doesnt actuallt use that much less though and you get a touch screen and controllers. Your laptop does not have built in controller. This is why I love Moonlight + Sunshine. I can stream my desktop to anywhere I want, with negligible latency, on anything that will run Moonlight (iOS, Android, x86, PS Vita, many others).
I love Moonlight so much. When I'm home, I can play on my deck or shield anywhere in the house with peak performance/graphics. I have a gen 1 Claw 155h 512gb. I like it and use it all the time. I usually play it while in bed so I play it with the charger connected. The temp difference between battery power and AC power is crazy! On battery just idle on the Win11 desktop, I can be anywhere between 39c-65c, but while on AC power, it will idle at 65c-104c and constantly ping 90c-104c. I run CoreTemp on it, and it will hit over 100c on at least 6 cores before the desktop is fully loaded up and CoreTemp is displayed. I have repasted it, and replaced the thermal pads, and I have also added 6 extra mini VGA heatsinks to the heat pipes to try and help cool it, but it will constantly thermal throttle while on AC power in a game, and fans will always be at 100%. On battery, the fan curve and fan responsiveness is pretty lacking in my opinion. I believe they have quietness over performance set on these devices. Even in performance mode on battery, the device lets the CPU reach pretty high temps before upping the fan speed. And it is a pretty slow ramp up. The only time you will ever hear fan speed at or above 80% is if you manually set the fan curve or you are upgrading the BIOS/UEFI and it forces full fan speed during the update. I would like to see what the temps look like on the new model while running a game. I bet they are pretty high too. Im willing to bet that when you plug it into AC it will jump up pretty high as well.

I will likely get one. Linux is the only one who mentioned how quite it is. Its crazy for a handheld device to be that quite and powerful at the same time. Not a big MSI fan, but this is definitely on my list when it comes out in Germany
It’s amazing how much battery capacity you can squeeze if the battery isn’t flat, but a boxier shape: 80wh is unthinkable unless if you’re talking about a LG gram or that Intel P14e, and those laptops are still only in the 70wh range
Also, one really great thing about 1600p 16:10 displays under 10 inches (or even 20 inches), is they look really damn good with 800p line-doubled to 1600p, which is 95% as foo looking as native 1600p, and you get either twice the FPS or twice the battery life, your choice, or 50% of each, personally I even like how good 400p looks subpixel rendered to 1600p, it really does look 90% as good as native 1600p on a screen under 10 inches, this will give you 4 times the FPS, which is 160 FPS in Shadow of the Tomb Raider at high graphics settings preset, which is insane for a handheld, the reason it looks also good is the high dot-pitch a 1600p 16:10 display under 10 inches has, with 4X 400p subpixel rendering, you can run anything, and mean anything with highly playable FPS performance, and retain almost perfect fidelity, it would make so much sense to offer these 3 presets in the main onscreen settings menu (2X line-double 800p mode, 4X 400p subpixel-render mode, and native 1600p mode), just imagine games lie Cuphead or Shovel Knight, Steamworld Heist 1&2 (or whatever indie game, or older pre-2018 game for example you want) at 4X mode with 10-15 hours of battery life as it only has to internally render at 25% of the iGPU's max.
@@TheWWWyrm Strongly have to disagree there mate, just look at what you can do with integer scaled 240p with the OSSC Pro & RetroTink, those devices can make 240p look immaculate on a 4K 75-inch screen, and given just how nice 240p looks integer-scaled on a 4K 75 inch, it's safe to say 800p looks good on a 1600p display that isn't even over 10 inches, in fact, even 400p looks basically immaculate, and this is coming from someone who is really OCD about these things. I have a Sony BVM-OLED so I can have immaculate RGB subpixels, CRT's for immaculate motion-clarity, and I love how 400p looks subpixel rendered on a 1600p OLED under 10 inches, not only how it looks, but the frame-time latency is so smooth thanks to high & consistent rock solid FPS pacing, there will be a small handful of games that look better with 2X 800p, but 90% of my Steam, GOG & Epic games look good at 4X400p. When 4K RGB-Stripe display handhelds are available, the dot-pitch will be even finer, meaning integers will look even better, the very small fidelity loss you get for the massive performance boost is a no-brainer imo, up to 4X FPS, with minimum frames that barely dip under 100 FPS even in the latest games, or up to 4 times the battery life, for a perceptible 10-15% fidelity loss at the most, if handheld PC producers made a new handheld gaming system with a native hardware FPGA integer solution, the results would be even better, even lower latency, on the fly integer scaling in any game, super-sampled subpixel-rendering handled via the FPGA, along with shader overlays like dot-trio masks, scanlines, post edge AA algorithms. A 50 dollar FPGA chip could really be a massive upgrade for PC handhelds, especially if combined with an APU with a 3D cache, say 128MB of SRAM, that in itself would boost FPS by at least 50-75%, and most likely double minimum frames by 100%, even better, would be an X3D cache for the CPU cores, and an SRAM cache for the GPU (or just standard eDRAM), say a 90MB X3D cache for the Ryzen CPU cores, and 384MB eDRAM cache for the iGPU, that combined with an FPGA for almost lossless integer scaling would make handhelds an absolute powerhouse for PC gaming, and capable of playing anything at 120 FPS or much higher depending on the game. And then on top of all that, imagine a RAMDISK for running the OS and all the main tasks & apps like Steam or other launchers, only the game files are stored on a standard SSD, and the currently in use game data is loaded to the RAMDISK, this would lower latency even more and make save states possible for PC games, which would be absolutely ideal for a handheld, allowing you to quickly save state and put the handheld down a carry on exactly where you left of later, that's the pipe dream PC handheld for me.
I think the price is totally fair. 1tb storage, 32gigs of fast ram, 8" VRR display, 80wh battery. ATM the best performance on a handheld. These things add up
Haha fair enough! For me this upcoming handheld is a game changer for those who love portable gaming for long gaming hours while travelling or use it like a mini PC with the thunderbolt 4 port. So yes this device is totally worth it.
I know there are people who will disagree with me on with this take, but after owning and using (and loving) a steamdeck since the initial release, the lack of trackpads is now a dealbreaker for me in handheld gaming devices. I don't always use them but when I do I am so grateful for having them
It is so crazy to me that within 25 years we have gone from running lightbulbs that are 60 watts, to an ENTIRE COMPUTER that can play games... that also fits in the LTT store cargo pants pocket.
They still don't get that most enthusiast consumer products sell worse when you put AI in the name lol. I avoided every single one so far and went for a competitor product with similar specs.
Please start including the class and speed of MicroSD card slots in the videos. It matters a lot. Anbernic cheaps out on MicroSD slots a lot, for example.
Yeah it's pricy but try finding a similarly specked computer. It's going to be a $1500+ laptop. You're not going to find this kind of handheld performance for much cheaper. Honestly I think, especially for people who're looking to just ditch their gaming PC for handheld+dock only it's not that crazy. With the maxxed out Steam Deck you get a much slower chip, halve the memory and a lower resolution, smaller lower refresh rate but OLED screen for $250 less. Seems pretty fair to me.
Looks quite nice and to be honest I thought It was going to be far more expensive. I am really looking forward how this compares to the new LeGo2 with the Z2extreme being revealed at CES in a few days!
This looks pretty great, the name is stupid but the specs seem pretty good. I'd like to see this head to head with the most comparable AMD handheld and I'm not a fan of the colour but dbrand will probably have that covered eventually. Just before you said the price I said 800, I was thinking GBP so it's about right I think. Great review (not a review).
I really hate non symmetrical bezels. If it had trackpads, I'd buy it anyway. Having trackpads on the steamdeck oled completely ruins everything else for me. Not having trackpads removes SO much quality of life for anything that has inventory management or UIs designed for occasional mouse inputs.
+1 The Steam Deck was an insta-buy because of the trackpads (I preordered the launch LCD early and got one of the first batches, but later got the OLED when that dropped too). I am constantly in awe just how playable mouse-only games become on the Deck when properly mapped. I play Baldur's Gate EE, Stronghold, Fable: The Lost Chapters, various shooters - it's awesome! Those would be outright unplayable for me on any other handheld without trackpads. And as you say - some hybrid input games also benefit. It's chill to play Diablo II Resurrected on the Deck, but the inventory management gets tedious with a controler, so the trackpads help soooo much.
I'll be holding off for the legion go 2 and see how it compares to that. I would hold off for the steam deck 2 but haven't heard anything about that yet.
I guessed $800. That's still damn pricey, but I think the right price. $800 ($799) for the 8 inch, and $700 for the seven inch. I think those numbers will make it feel more fair, and easier to remember when comparison shopping.
The upcoming claw has AI+Copilot verified, Providing Features like AI-assisted performance tuning, smart cooling. So its clear this AI feature is not showoff.
The battery performance with video playback is really impressive. This would make for a great entertainment device to watch movies on for long road trips. But yeah, that $900 price point makes it much less compelling when it's situated in gaming laptop territory.
It is low key, but tbh you are not going to play all games in one day so 2tb as the current standard for 2230 is fine. There is most likely more comming soon
Literally who cares. I have a 1TB SSD in each of my 2 Steam Decks (launch LCD and OLED) and a 512GB MicroSD card - this is enough for like 80 games of various kinds that I have installed on the OLED. If storage here is what you think is a bummer - you've got issues, lmao.

$900 and IPS screen? For the price a OLED DISPLAY is a minimum requirement.
tbh i prefer ips displays because oleds last me a few years before burning in. for some devices like my phone where i know i'm gonna get a new one in 3 years, i don't care as much about burn in. but on a game console that i expect to run for 5+ years, i don't like the idea that my screen is temporary.
@@RealWaffles No...Lol. I have repaired iPhones for 15 years and Samsung. I have never once seen burn in on old phones. Not one time in 15 years. smh
@1TechCritic420I've fixed computers, phones, tablets, and consoles for 25 years and I've seen tons of burnt in screens of all types. The worst offenders are OLED but mostly older ones. Newer ultra bright screens are a big concern if you play the same game all the time though. The UI starts to be permanent. Variety fixes this issue for the most part

"Let me give this product a glowing review throughout the video and then undo all the good things I said about it by now announcing the price. Bye!" You can see the look on Linus's face at the end, which is likely why they left the price reveal until the outro.
This is just every commercial for anything expensive. The point of a sponsored video is to make you want the product ENOUGH that the price doesn't change your mind. It's been this way since before TV and radio even existed way back when traveling merchants who did street shows started this.
They always leave the price reveal for the end, it's nothing special here tbh

The claw 8 is improved from the original claw but the price is a huge NO plus for everyone here wanting to know the price its $900 plus almost all of these Ai marketings you see in companies never get used aside from chatGPT so whats the point of having Ai in a handheld that can play games just like every other handheld device
Wtf were they thinking
That's the same as similar devices like the Legion Go and Rog Ally.

These companies are so stupid. At this point, having “AI” slapped onto a product name is going to, if anything, discourage me from purchasing it. I suppose tone deaf companies are kinda par for the course at this point.

Would have liked a comparison with Radeon 780M & 890M devices.
Because at the end of the day, these Handheld devices are meant for gaming, and which ever provides the best performance is the better one (not considering the price as that is a separate factor).

I can't believe I'm gonna say this but... I actually expected it to be far more expensive. This feels in line with laptop pricing for the same specs and just two years ago we had a lot of ayaneo's in this price range with half of the capability.
Except you also get more with a laptop - more keyboard, more screen, more speaker, etc. A handheld should be cheaper, because it uses far less material and compromises on things.

The last bit of price reveal is priceless. I enjoyed Linus's face expression as in sure this device is nice, but it is pricey and you won't like it.
Except it’s not 1600p.
I have a legion go. 800p is no where near close to 1600p, integer scaling or not. It’s a very noticeable difference.
These things add up
12:53 people in the background laughing at the price😅
Haha fair enough! For me this upcoming handheld is a game changer for those who love portable gaming for long gaming hours while travelling or use it like a mini PC with the thunderbolt 4 port. So yes this device is totally worth it.
I know there are people who will disagree with me on with this take, but after owning and using (and loving) a steamdeck since the initial release, the lack of trackpads is now a dealbreaker for me in handheld gaming devices.

With the maxxed out Steam Deck you get a much slower chip, halve the memory and a lower resolution, smaller lower refresh rate but OLED screen for $250 less. Seems pretty fair to me.

The tiny "Intel Core Ultra 7" sticker is hilarious on a hand held.
+1
The Steam Deck was an insta-buy because of the trackpads (I preordered the launch LCD early and got one of the first batches, but later got the OLED when that dropped too).
The slapped on AI naming scheme reminds me of the 4G naming scheme of cell phones from the early 2010s

The unfortunate reality of my region is that I will pay up to 150 euro over the price you would pay in US in USD. So in most of the cases it is just not so attractive to buy even if it is something I would be interested in.
Somehow they managed to build the perfect handheld and forgot the one thing that's an absolute deal breaker for my next handheld purchase.....OLED. Well done MSI....
Dave2d disliked the d-pad😢 1:48
its completely subjective but its also a sponsored video
just wanna say i got an AOKZOE A1 Pro with a 7840u when it was new 2 years ago, and it still runs like a dream(with fsr 3 or without)
$900 and Windows 11 - two massive dealbreakers for a PC handheld. Windows 11 might be replaceable by Bazzite, but that price really does rule it out for most people, even if the hardware specs are very good.
I love bazzite but I'm not sure they even support battle mage yet. Most of the handhelds they support run AMD.
upscaling and framegen would make that thing a very compelling portable gaming device actually, especially since you can use things like lossless scaling on it
If the 7 was 750 and not 800 it would be a slam dunk
Still can’t believe there’s no OLED at this price. I’d also like to see a trackpad. But props for the 32GB RAM
8" is too big for me. 7" is better. Sadly the 7" version has more downgrades over just a smaller screen and battery. Also a smaller SSD (512GB) WiFi 6e instead of 7.
