The purpose of a ring light is to combat the problem that regular lights can cause in very specific situations. Which is shadows on the subject when the lens is in the way. The primary way that happens is with a macro lens all up close to a leaf or insect (or on a microscope). The ring light solves for that problem. Putting a ring light ANY distance from the lens, and not AROUND the lens, is silly. Today most buy them just because they are a trendy item to purchase because someone saw it in a picture one time but has no concept of why it was there. Yes, a ring light can look interesting in a perfectly staged photograph, but that takes a very detailed and very posed and close up shot of the face. You’re never going to see a ring light in the eyes of a video subject on social media unless they are framed like a serial killer.
I’ve seen ring lights reflected in various TH-camr’s glasses, however. Fairly often, such that it’s apparently unavoidable due to their use of a ring light.
@ Yeah, any light used will reflect in glasses even better than eyes. My point is just that the reflection being an artistic choice and looking better as a ring versus any other shape is silly given how small it is and not really identifiable except for those “up in your face” style videos. So it seems to me that most people buy ring lights because they are trendy and don’t actually think much about the reflections. Or ring lights might be all that is on the shelf because they’re trendy. There’s that too.
With the water bottle, I think it has you take it out to charge it to remind you not to dishwasher it because it has a battery in it. When you’re washing the bottle, you probably want to charge it during that time anyways because what is there to track when it’s being washed or drying.
For that price, it 100% should charge via induction, so the bottle could be made dishwasherproof with all the electronics in it. But well, thinking you'd need a "smart" water bottle to help you stay hydrated well enough is stupid AF, so I can see how they can easily get away with this design flaw. 💁

Personal experience with the water bottle, my grandmother uses it to keep herself hydrated. The bottle sends updates to my mother so that way she knows that she's drinking enough water every day.
You had glow, updated the firmware and the glow is gone? I feel like the limited ability to have it glow at all wasn't supposed to be enabled in an earlier version of the firmware and that is all the update did.
The glow was stopped because the battery had reached a certain threshold where it was considered low battery. They prioritise the tracking over the glow feature when the battery is low.
4:10 Ring lights feel like one of those "great idea on paper" sort of things. Like someone heard their professional photographer friend say "gosh, even lighting will make you look so much better on zoom" and then they designed a product to do it. Personally, I don't like ring lights because of that thing they do to the eyes. I always feel like people look rabid when they have the circles in their eyes. Can't unsee it and I get disturbed by it. Honestly, not a fan of whole "aesthetic" of it since it makes the person look like they want to bite me.
Jake, a "bad value" does not equal a "scam", as Linus pointed out on the last WAN show. A scam involves intentional deception that results in you getting something different than what was advertised.
15:30 LTT staff forgot about the word "ortholinear" despite it being in like 30 videos they have on the channels. I get that maybe they haven't done keyboard reviews, but Elijah, savant of remembering everything in every LTT video, has definitely heard them talk about it several times before.
There are actually two special Apple Stores in NYC, the famous 5th Avenue Apple Store and a not as cool but pretty cool Apple Store in the Grand Central Station.
As Linus said in a recent interview (paraphrasing): "scam" has a meaning separate from "rip-off". We can't just keep calling things that are bad value a scam.
That's not a proprietary cable, as anyone with adult toys that need washing would tell you... It's standard generic pogo pin that attaches to magnetic pogo. I'm 100% sure Elijah knows and is playing stupid.

Elijah recounting his first encounter?
You had glow, updated the firmware and the glow is gone? I feel like the limited ability to have it glow at all wasn't supposed to be enabled in an earlier version of the firmware and that is all the update did.
The glow was stopped because the battery had reached a certain threshold where it was considered low battery. They prioritise the tracking over the glow feature when the battery is low.
The bottle lid charge port placement was a missed opportunity to compare it to the magic mouse.
Haha the Clicks keyboard is from Michael Fisher (Mr. Mobile) 😂
That keyboard product could have been so good with some design changes.
These guys have great on screen chemistry. More videos with them together please.
Seeing Jonathon in this would've been fun and refreshing. RIP Mac Address
He was laid off
@@JustCallMeEm. Yeah. Unfortunate
Jake + Elija hosting duo is pretty fun, would watch more of them just trying out diff products!
If only there was a channel to cover all the Apple stuff...
That's a problem they need to address.
Jake, a "bad value" does not equal a "scam", as Linus pointed out on the last WAN show.
A scam involves intentional deception that results in you getting something different than what was advertised.
i actually think the mac address->short circuit migration is quite intuitive, surprised it wasn't done sooner
We need more Jake and Elijah videos
Lol that keyboard is from Michael Fisher. Can’t believe he’s selling this trash.
I never knew i needed a subscription to drink from a bottle
15:30 LTT staff forgot about the word "ortholinear" despite it being in like 30 videos they have on the channels.
I get that maybe they haven't done keyboard reviews, but Elijah, savant of remembering everything in every LTT video, has definitely heard them talk about it several times before.
There are actually two special Apple Stores in NYC, the famous 5th Avenue Apple Store and a not as cool but pretty cool Apple Store in the Grand Central Station.
THE quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog not just A quick brown fox
Yeah Jake, get your shit together! /s There needs to be a "the" in there or you're missing t and h 🤭
I'm so glad I'm not the only one triggered by this. Defeats the whole purpose of typing that sentence.
As Linus said in a recent interview (paraphrasing): "scam" has a meaning separate from "rip-off". We can't just keep calling things that are bad value a scam.
It's so nice that daddy Linus has kids that like to play with each other :-) One happy LTT family
there's many ways it could measure the volume of water, including an ultrasonic pulse and measuring the results, or some kind of em wave
That's not a proprietary cable, as anyone with adult toys that need washing would tell you... It's standard generic pogo pin that attaches to magnetic pogo. I'm 100% sure Elijah knows and is playing stupid.
Why do you need “adult toys that need washing”? You must be a loner or divorced
@@sumdood7011 lmao you don't wash your toys 💀
If you don't want to look like a pervert you could've also said that a lot of wearables uses that pogo-connector 🤣
Dave2d made a video about the actual tinypod and well yeah it sucks. You can scroll, yes, but it doesn't click so you still have to use the touchscreen which makes it kinda pointless.
18:03 you just gave apple their next scam 😂
Loosely using the word scam
Are there other products that track you with a phone or a camera? For a small time content creator who moves around slowly, one time $180 payment instead of paying your friend every time you record would be incredible.
There are a bunch of other products like this, dji osmo, and a bunch of cheap amazon ones. you'd have to find one that works the best.
As an Apple user I always say don’t buy things directly from Apple (there are a few exceptions but for consumers don’t do it in 9/10 cases)
The apple watch case segment was hilarious 😆
Oh and Elijah is so stoned 😂
When Elijah answered, "The big box," without hesitation, I understood that he and I exist on the same wavelength: being 5 years old
Oh you can tell that water bottle is from apple what other company says where can we put the charging port so you can’t use it and charge it
It’s not from Apple tho.
@ the water bottle is from the Apple Store so close enough
@@Conner_Kluender"I know you proved me completely wrong but I'm just going to double down like an idiot"
That's essentially what you just wrote lol
@@byers31303 ok think about it this way the turn signals of a Lamborghini are those Lamborghini turn signals because it is for that car or are they ford turn signals because they were manufactured by ford for the focus
"Empty the bottle"
"F--"
Great moment 😂
10:02 did he just try to justify subscription to a water bottle??? Are we at that stage already? And you need an app to tell you that you're thirsty? It's manufactured e-waste. Literally nobody should even consider this kind of product.
Cool seeing Jake again
Ring ring ring ring ring, banana phone!~
The Belkin tracking stand can be used both horizontally and vertically. Got one on amazon for $70, it's been pretty decent 👍
The bots beat me here.
Hate when that happens
Never before have i agreed with Jake so much, Only a Tech Tourist would visit an apple store. God knows a Tech expert wouldnt.
So the Belkin dock basically just gives your iPhone Center Stage? And that's it??
Awesome. Happy New Year!
There's a really fancy way of knowing when to drink water. it's called "thirst."
When you're thirsty you're already dehydrated, a condition you'd rather like to avoid. There's nothing wrong using tools to practice drinking/hydrating. Paying this amount of money though...I don't know, there are easier - and free - ways.
Not really. Some people don’t drink enough or forget
Should have Riley do a backflip with the tracking station
