"Why aren't Kryptonians the same power level?" I dunno, why aren't humans all the same power level? Because of obvious things like sex, age, fitness, experience, genetics and illness? Add on time spent in the sun for Kryptonians and affinity for solar radiation and there's the answer.
Re-read my comment. Slowly. I clearly said "for Kryptonians". So my strength isn't affected by my sex? Ohhhh. That's why men and women are of equal strength isn't it? So my strength isn't affected by my age? Ohhhhh. That's why 9 year olds, 29 year olds and 89 year olds are of equal strength isn't it? So my strength isn't affected by my fitness? Ohhhh. That's why Olympic athletes are equally strong to obese couch potatoes isn't it? So my strength isn't affected by my experience? Ohhhh. That's why people who lift weights 5 times a week for a week as just as strong as others who haven't lifted a weight in their life, isn't it? So my strength isn't affected by genetics? Ohhhh. That's why blacks are, on average, stronger than any other race isnt it? So my strength isn't affected by illness? Ohhhhh. That's why healthy people are just as strong as the disabled or bed-ridden, isn't it?
Think it through. Solar Radiation gives them SUPER strength i.e. it magnifies the strength they already had. The same applies to all their physical abilities. Case and point. You can't have microscopic vision if you're blind, can you? Kara being stronger than Clark doesn't disprove or prove anything because Zod's wife isn't stronger than him. You've tried to use ONE example to apply a rule to an entire race. Why would age matter? Are you saying that Zod's son could body him? Where's your evidence to contradict the assumption, "Your stronger in your adult years and prime than as a kid"?
Pryrrus Lightkiller I know right, just get the fucking balls to show it already, or give Supes a power up so they it at least explains his constant better showings, like come on DC
All explications about the why a Kriptonian is stronger than others is meneangless in the face of superman, or rather DC writers, in the end it doesnt truly matter if they give a lore explication of for example, why kriptonian kids are so powerful or why supergirl is SUPOSED tu be more powerful, I remember a comic where they said that Kara process yellow sun radiation much better than Kal or that Jon also process it better but in the end there will ALLWAYS be a lazy writter that will use the ultra LAZY argument that superman (kal el) was containing himself and that he is the strongest kryptonian becouse of yes or some other lazy bullshit. Dont get me wrong i love supes and his lands cape, but I cant tolarate the lazy argument of kal el not holding back and just being stronger that almos any other kriptonian o character like even darkseid what ever some writter just doesnt have a good idea of how to bring down a villian or just want to suck supes dick
I always thought the power-dynamic of the main Kryptonian survivors was pretty good: Superman: stronger than Zod but less skilled in combat and how he uses his abilities because of his background. Supergirl: stronger than Superman but less skilled and experienced in using those powers. Zod: weaker in sheer power than the other two but has an acquired lifetime of military training that makes him very skilled at using those powers.
In this one, it's more like "Look, guys, I've got quite a few people kneeling before Zod right now. I've reached my kneeling target for this quarter. I've got no plans to launch any nefarious schemes until Fiscal Year 2021, when I'm going to need extra Zod-kneeling to counteract expected revenue losses. Can we hold off on fighting until then? Have your people call my people, we'll set something up."
Didn't this happen before the conclusion of DK Metal? I think this was the mindset that led Jordan to re-create the Darkstars because the Darkstars are essentially what Jordan was saying. Deep down he wished to end the criminals and that's what the 12th metal he wore made into reality.
I love how Rob and Benny can both do a story and I'll enjoy the heck out of it either way. Even watching both videos you'll get 2 totally awesome perspectives. It's like 2 sides to a coin. I thoroughly enjoy both.
ZOD didn't commited any crime? It is stupid to even suggest something like that. Even if he did not do any crimes he should by capture/kill on sight for his crimes from few years/decades ago. It should not be assasin creed where you can kill few people then sit on the branch for few minutes and it's OK.
From the look of it, the Guardians only deal with their own laws and rulings rather then any other species; which is exceptionally weird, the least they could do would be to extradite him to earth for the things he's done there.
Breaking free from prison would be a crime ... even if it wasn't a punishment the Guardians gave him. They should have at least held him and alerted the proper authorities.
First... Love your work. My day brightens every time I get to watch an episode of ComicsExplained. Next. At the end there with the killing of bad guys. I play with that morality in thought experiments all the time. In the end killing bad guys who have shown no signs of changing for the better I.e Caring for life, Basic Sentient (human) rights and such. As much as I hate the thought of giving bad guys the chance to end or subject more life, There is always the opportunity to rehabilitate then and turn them for "Good". That being said... I would still have my limits.. The old saying "Three strikes and your out" come to mind.
Lesson Learned: Lantern Corps have bad luck against Kryptonians. Even when they win, they don't. *Hal (bloodied, broken, and losing a tooth):* "Yeah. There's more," _coughs up blood_ "There's more where that came from!" *Zod looks back:* "What?" *Hal:* "Nothing!"
If your logic is "these guys are murderers, they deserve to die" and you murder them, you're then a murderer who deserves to die. What's even more dangerous is when you decide you know whether a person deserves to live or die based on your own values.
Actually in the current story John Stewart knows how to make Kryptonite with his ring but it's a special feature. I don't wanna spoil anything but he's currently using that to blackmail Zod.
That's a fantastic breakdown of the story. Haven't collected comics since 2006 or something like that. (Just after the Final Crisis thing.) Thanks, I enjoyed it.
Light falloff from its source is an inverse square. The density of light a few thousand miles away from the sun is an exponent more dense than 80-100million miles distant. Any Kryptonian could hang out a few thousand miles from any yellow sun, and get an exponential sun bath which would put them way over superman's strength level in just seconds.
1. They answered why she was initially stronger. 2. It was because when she got thrown off course her pod pretty much got caught in the sun's gravitational pull and she was continuously bombarded with pure solar radiation up close. 3. Just because people are raised in the exact same area doesn't mean they will all be of the exact same strength. 4. Not in real life. Not in comics
The conversation between Hal and John is foreshadowing for the Darkstars storyline. It is also apart of an internal dialogue Hal has been having since Rebirth started. But I do not think Hal would ever act on it.
The explanation I remembered about Supergirl being stronger than Superman was that she spent more time on Krypton. And, as I recall, she starts out less strong than Superman, but improves at a faster rate (because of her time on Krypton).
Rob, I haven’t been reading Corps, but this may have sold it for me. Hal Jordan and Barry Allen are my two favorite DC characters and I’ve been going back and reading all the silver age stuff. Excellent video and really fires me up about the GL Corps.
Alex the Comic Hoarder Corps is one of the best DC rebirth books rn. I would say Lanterns the first few arcs of lanterns was better but then they changed writers and corps also got rly good
My problem with that story is they downplay the willpower of Zod. Hal shouldnt have gotten the better of him. Superboy primed killed 50 lanterns in mere minutes, Zod should have had a fight on his hands but not taken an "L" to Hal. B.S. I say
That is good Green Lantern story .And DC has changed so much ,Since way back in the day .Thier is more of a crossover over for villains in DC ,Most of the time it was a new villain .Or a villain getting nastier to get back at the hero's ,But great video Rob on Green Lantern. .
Zod is possibly one of the most undermined villains from Sups, and one that could be one of the best alongside Darkside or Doomsday if written correctly.
That theme of are we doing enough, it has been hinted in Batman, the Flash, JLA and now Green Lantern. Dr. Manhattan is slowly making DCU the Watchman universe. Killing villains
Since Supes just used a solar flare recently Supergirl should be more powerful then. Granted, continuity is not so important over the last couple months.
I know it's petty, but aren't all pet peeves petty? Decimate means to reduce by a tenth. Decimation was a punishment for failure in the military. They would line them up and kill every 10th soldier. It's killing 10%.
Actually it was the Roman Legion's punishment for mutiny--being insubordinate--and the other 90 percent of the troops were forced on pain of death to carry out the order. But yeah, the original sense of the word really hasn't been in broad use for what, centuries? (shrugs)
When people mean annihilate, they should say annihilate. It is a bit like when people say literally when they mean figuratively, or assume when they mean presume. Too wrong for too long doesn't make it right... Got to be a better pun there.
So many people fall prey to the etymological fallacy: that a word should or must mean what it meant originally or long ago, and maybe in another language altogether. Have you ever used "data" or "agenda" as singular nouns? Then you too have taken advantage of gradual linguistic change. The original meaning of decimate as to mean "reduce by 10%" is linguistically extinct. These days practically no one reduces something by 10% and then proceeds to announce said action using the word "decimate". It's a ridiculously specific scenario that quite likely died with the Romans. There's a good reason why words which would mean "reduce by 20% or 30% or 40% etc" never caught on. They would simply have no practical use. Recycling the word decimate to mean "devastate" or "destroy" is simply giving new life to an otherwise dead word.
The thing is, once someone is proven to be guilty of a crime, they have to be punished for it. If they stole something or assaulted someone, the would do jail time. If a super villain has been convicted of mass murder, MULTIPLE TIMES, the only option is the death penalty.
Uh honestly man it could just be like something as mundane as genetics. Like who’s to say yellow sun radiation effects every kryptonian the same. Maybe some could be genetically predisposition to process the radiation better.
The idea that Supergirl is more powerful than Superman because of the duration of her exposure to yellow sun energy (and the opposite for Zodd) is just dumb. Think about it. Kryptonian bodies are essentially energy storage units much like batteries. Sure if you charge one battery longer than another identical then it will have more energy. But only to a point. Once its fully charged it will not store additional energy. And once you begin to use that energy the length of time it was initially charged is no longer a factor. There are two reasons why one battery might be stronger than another. First is the size of the battery. This means that Superman, being larger (and also having larger muscles) would be more powerful than Supergirl. But if you want to claim that Supergirl is the more powerful of the two then you have to say its because her body is more efficient in its ability to store energy. We could say that Superman is more powerful than Zodd because Zodd is much older and his body has become less efficient in storing and using energy. Or we could say that, for whatever reason, female Kryptonian bodies are more efficient than male bodies. When you consider how quickly Kryptonians lose their powers under a red sun the explanation about longer charging times giving the 3 of them different power levels is just flat out stupid.
Everything about Kyptonians is utter garbage to try and make sense of it is a exirse in futility. The main reason I hate Superman he is just a dumb character at the core.
There was a saying a man with nothing left to lose is not a threat to anyone a man with nothing left to lose is a man that is already dead, when a man is going to die he's going to lose everything, when a man dies he's already lost everything, when a man is dead he has nothing, dead men are the ones with nothing left to lose in a conscience sense life is everything and death is nothing so long as you're alive you have something but when you are dead you are nothing.
I don’t remember whether it was in comics or a movie but Batman explained that Kara was more powerful because her body processes the radiation more efficiently or something to that effect after examining her
Yeah pre age up this would've been a really cool situation of Jon and Supersons being intelligent and the kid being ruthless. Now Jon's an adult And will soon be electric blue. so it wouldn't be cool or fun anymore
As a fan of the Last Son of Krypton book, it hurts a shit load to see Chris Kent/Lor-Zod like this. He escaped the Phantom Zone and Clark became the father that Chris never really had in regards to Zod. To see him like this is just horrible in my opinion; not that the story isn't good, it's amazing and I love it. I know it ain't gonna happen, but I wanna see Lor and Jon interact and maybe Lor could get his memories back of being Clark's and Lois's kid? We could get more of Clark's kids back, with only needing Cir-el and Kon

DAHAKA, GUARDIAN OF THE TIMELINE bizaro the best of them all mindless rage unpredictable
That's how I always saw it too. Superman had more time to master his abilities compared to the others.
Do not forget that super had a few lesson from Batman.
His words from "new krypton" story arc.

So did Zatanna, wouldn't count on her skills at soloing Lady Shiva just yet though -_-
It's DC, everyone's had "a few lessons from Batman".
Zod has always been a personal favorite for me. Seeing him in action against the green lanterns and dominating is a sight to see.

If Green Lantern can make anything how come they don't just make Kryptonite? Lol
Trapinnewyork44 it takes intense concentration and I think Batman told Hal how to do it
Green Lanterns don't create minerals/chemicals. Green Lanterns create light constructs.

There was a saying a man with nothing left to lose is not a threat to anyone a man with nothing left to lose is a man that is already dead, when a man is going to die he's going to lose everything, when a man dies he's already lost everything, when a man is dead he has nothing, dead men are the ones with nothing left to lose in a conscience sense life is everything and death is nothing so long as you're alive you have something but when you are dead you are nothing.
new subscriber here. keep up the good work.
Hal Jordan at the end starts to sound like Siniestro
Now that Superman and General Zod has their own kid. They should use the Mobius way of raising kids and creating diplomacy.
Lor and Data!?!? Zodd is Dr Nuunya Sing. Shared universe confirmed.
Supergirl dad also added world killer genes to her and she had a weapon make used on her that started a nuclear fusion in her body.
Rob, thoughts on doing some ant man stories?
I don’t remember whether it was in comics or a movie but Batman explained that Kara was more powerful because her body processes the radiation more efficiently or something to that effect after examining her
Me pregunto si en la película the flash sucederá lo mismo
Wish they continued off this arc. Would love to see john vs zods son
Yeah pre age up this would've been a really cool situation of Jon and Supersons being intelligent and the kid being ruthless.
Now Jon's an adult And will soon be electric blue. so it wouldn't be cool or fun anymore
They call him Dirty Hal!
Long toothed space cop in sector...
"A dead person cannot be a repeat offender"
Black Lanterns
And All Might would dance on Zod and Superman. I'm a Superman fan saying that!
OUTSTANDING
13:20 take out the plug, and plug it back in. Basically what happened
Could you expound upon the artwork in the issues you delve into like this one. Because It is next level.
That was awesome
Hey Rob will you make the darkstars storyline when it's completed?
Zod is a great character to launch a whole storyline around similar to Dark Knights Metal or Injustice..
Make it happen
Green Lanterns always getting decimated
Can you make a video on who the Eradicator is?
I thought kyle’s ring would hold its own against whatever Zod was doing to it, considering it’s the most powerful weapon in the Dc universe
