  • In this video i show you how to test a fuel tank pressure sensor and how to replace a fuel tank pressure sensor. This particular car is a 2007 chevy impala so it should be the same for all impalas from 2006-2016 ninth generation impala. DTC codes P0446 P0452 P0451 This sensor was stuck at .2 volts. But the fuel tank pressure sensor can be stuck high \ low \ somewhere in the middle or just not be reading right.

This is the clearest & most direct approach to this problem on you tube!!!...people should take heed to this mechanic...in the past i lost hundreds of dollars on this problem because the details were not made as clear. Sometimes "yes" you do have to spell it out or draw a picture! ...(as they say). Thank you and please continue your explanatory technique!!

I was getting this same engine code on my kids 2006 Impala. I myself replaced the top 3 culprits; purge canister, gas cap, and purge solenoid. After each replacement (which were easy to do, and moderately priced), the code would reappear within a few days. Took it to a mechanic who was able to diagnose this sensor. Without a lift, decided to just cough up the money to have it done. So far so good! Thanks for this video. Shows me the process involved.

@@osoprizzell7322 there was little to no gas mileage change once it was replaced. The leak on mine was very slow. Before the repair, it would take a reset light a few days to trigger the engine light. Have a mechanic diagnose the problem with a scan tool. It could be one of the three other issues, or something else. A large air leak may cause quicker fuel flow.

Got an 05 cobalt have put a canister on it also a purge valve but still have po446 doesn't seem to leak anywhere could it be the pressure sensor?
Also I did take it off awhile back and it threw a po445 (the code for the pressure sensor I believe also never came back on) then went away but the 446 came back.

On a related note. I put a new water pump on my 70 Impala 350 yesterday. After letting it heat up to check for leaks, it was good. Took it down the road and floored it and oil just started going everywhere. engine bay and windshield. looks like it coming from the front of the block, but it doesn't drip just parked. I didn't do anything related to oil

I have a sonata with a P0455 (large leak detected) and P0451 evap emission system-pressure sensor range/performance code. Does this mean ftp sensor is bad and would it trigger 0455? Or would a leak trigger P0451 and not necessarily be the fuel tank sensor? Appreciate any help, ty.

Snapon diag said P0451 - "EVAP system pressure sensor/switch "A" circuit range/performance - not current DTC." What cud be the issue?

The gas tank straps in the north east are not that easy to deal with usually rusted solid and bust the welded nuts inside the frame so you have to cut it and use a fabric strap
