"Your car is fixed and ready for collection."
    "?."
"Sir, you can come collect your car, it's all done."
"How can it be? All the other shops had it for a week and then told me they couldn't find the problem. I dropped it of yesterday and now you say it is done.
    Is this a wind up?"
Way to go Mr. O. At the beginning you said the owner wasn't the best communicator, now he has his trust in mechanics restored he may be a bit easier.

The old "we made it worse so we are on the right track" senario at 36:00. Brings back memories when I was young and did this stuff. Sign of a good Tech just works through the problem.

Man, that was some impressive troubleshooting! That salt certainly is pervasive. I was thinking the car manufacturers may have some stock in the salt producing companies. If you want to get rid of the salt, just convince a couple people the salt is harming animals. It will be gone so fast, your head will spin, and no more green crusties!

    I worked on a 2015 Malibu today.
P0245, Fuel pressure signal issue. The park brake cable beat the harness, and damaged the 5v supply wire. Same area as your video. Repaired the damaged wire and good to go . Your video was helpful :-)

Another super video! I'm surprised that thing didn't come in with a new pressure sensor in it already. Most everyone would have just changed the sensor...connect scanner..."blah blah blah fuel pressure sensor blah blah blah". This is the reason why diagnostics is so intriguing to me.

I can't believe how bad a condition that car was in !! I would have been totally embarrassed to have any of my cars look like that -- I don't even think that the undercarriage wash would remove 50 lbs. of dirt !! I can't believe you found that wire short -- you, sir, are nothing short of AMAZING !!!

YES !!!!! Finally a video that is more than 5 minutes to fix the problem !!!! And this one is a MULTI problem fix !!! Went thru a big cup of Krups machine of McDonalds coffee insert, and it tasted great with some chocolate wafers to compliment it !!! Our (yes, our - you are not the only one diagnosing the problem) sleuthing is going along nicely and uncovering bad things that have happened over time !!!! I saw Mrs.O.'s heart lovingly melt when you said the only mistake you never made was marring her - priceless !!!! A bad wire so far, gonna fix that. Then on to the other codes and more sleuthing again. Can't wait for part two !!! Going to fill the Krups water tank because it will take at least two cups of coffee and a few Dunkin Donuts of white cream, blueberry, and jelly fillings to get this vehicle all repaired and an inspection sticker slapped on !!!!!!!!!! 🤪🤨😵‍💫😤👍

But after this video, the use of a GDI fuel system and the shoddy electrical harness routing that were built into that 2014 Chevy Malibu have put me off of GM products for good. That Eric O owns and drives a Toyota Tundra and a Honda Odyssey is all I need to know.

I am not one to say things on these auto repair videos, but I what thank you for your narrative video. The way you this video, you allow the auto DIY mechanic to watch to understand what you were doing. The cables use over and over again can fail. I work on electronics and keep a well supply of the test cables. I learned long ago never believe it the equipment interior circuit board showing a bad resistor, I now check it with a fresh cable that doesn't have broken interior wires. A+

Eric, nice job on that wire. We in the HVAC & R and Commercial Cooking repair trade go through a lot of the same, tracing down missing neutral wires, in your case grounds, chaffed wires shunted to ground giving erroneous readings and the like. Some of the ovens we work on cost as much as a BMW 3 & 4 series, so the customers get a bit mouthy if we don't find the problems on the initial visit/diagnosis. I like the way you never give up, when others would. I look forward to the rest of this/these video(s) on this job. So many times a single shunt or open wire can cause a multitude of faults. Good job!

"This is a piss poor design" about the cable being routed right by the strut. I can tell you as an automotive designer, our job is to fit 10 pounds of manure in a 5 pound bag. I learned that on my first day on the job.

    • @ohell226
      @ohell226 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Look at the ten pounds of dung. Can you Increase the moisture content of manure to add weight without much volume? Then shovel ten pounds in the bag. You’re only seeing what your taught to look for. Guaranteed it won’t leave SMA with same issue.
      It’s a piss poor design.
For the “designer” it made it past warranty ✅

Eric spent quite a bit of time diagnosing those 2 problems. I would be curious how he would bill that out especially if the customer chose NOT to get the repairs done at his shop.
In MI, the shop has to give you a WRITTEN estimate before they start to work on the car. Some dealers are now charging a 1 hour diagnostic fee before they look at anything ! The fee is typically refunded (baked in) if the repair is done there.

Are you sure that car wasn't under water for a period of time? I've never seen one that packed\clogged with dust and dirt especially at only 2 years old. It just seems way wrong even for a car from the northeast.

Eric, you hold some sort of statistics of your shop, I wonder how many GMs Vs order brands you serviced. Love how they manage to intal modules were salt, rust, or dirt tend to acummulate. Love this cars designed and tested in the desk of some nice office building. Rust can get into autocad I guess.

Good Job. I took an hour video plus behind the scene time to solve this pressure sensor issue. Finding a broken wire is not an easy job with all these wires and wire harnesses.
Thank you to share this job work, information and experience.
One more thing please, how did you fix that broken wire ????

I don't really agree. All that plastic collects dirt abnormally. Its put there for sound deadening but it will most likely accelerate the body corrosion. This is just poor design that even underbody washing perhaps won't clean properly.

@@caribbeangtr8077 I have Skoda octavia, it too has the plastic panels, it does the same. When I first got it second hand, I took them off, and the dirt was stuck in a molded type state to the plastic. Airline sorted that. Just every summer, I pop them off and give it a once over.

Way to stick with it! I’m quite sure most technicians would not have discovered that broken wire! I’m very curious on how you repaired that connection being that it was buried with not much wire to play with.

Another Great Video! What a place to put a wiring harness! Seriously? Reliance on one sensor for all those codes? That fuel pump probably has been running at max output for a long while, shortening its life! Hey! Mo money for you when comes pump changing time, RIGHT? Cool! Not cool is the multi poundage of dirt and who knows what else! If you've ever seen the Space Shuttle land at Edwards Air Force Base in California on the dirt landing strip you know what that dirt is like as you removed some of it from that vehicle. Went to an air show there about 7 years ago, parked WAY OUT in the dirt. Leaving at night had the RECIRC door closed, but it took MONTHS to get rid of the fine dirt from under the Nissan truck! And it was a PAIN IN THE ASS to clean it from all parts of the vehicle! Like you said, that sensor should have been under the hood. Oh well. Part 2 with the P2XXX codes coming up! No sleep again tonight!
